Is it a mono or DD.  Better yet I need an ANTI-INTERFERENCE because it's bad enough that she made me mop she had to keep telling me how to do it, and that I was doing it all wrong.  Apparently, you have to put the mop in the bucket and get it wet before you start swinging it on the floor.  "Who knew?"

    Doc

It's sorta like it raining before metal detecting, it's sometime enhances the signal, with the wet mop it connects you to the floor better.

I actually learned that as a youngster doing things my parents called "chores" back then.

Does anyone have any information on the date of original development and use of the dry washer?

I have never seen a date reference on when dry washers were first used, but at the link below is says such methods have been in use since the earliest days of gold discovery, it talks about dry washing about halfway down the page, lots of other info on the history of gold mining as well.

    "4.1. The Dry Washers

Dry washers (Figure 15) are among the most widely used gold recovery devices that operate without a water supply. Gold dry washing for gold goes back to the earliest days of gold discovery and is generally utilized in arid and desert environments where water is scarce."

Can't hurt to ask if they'll replace it out of warranty, being such a known problem.

A guy called CoilsNel on Ebay sells ear repair gadgets much like the 3D printed stiffeners sold all over the place from every man and their dog with a 3D printer, the difference is his are proper molded plastic.  I've bought Nel coils from him before, he was saying factory direct so I'm not sure if he's associated with Nel but likely is in some way being a big seller of their coils.  Maybe the ear repair thing is made where the Nel coils are, never heard of a broken Nel coil ear.

He does a version to strengthen, or to replace left, right or both ears so you'd just ask for the both ear version.

Might work alright for you,  Here is the link so you can have a look.

Might just need some decent glue to lock it down.

Your existing method maybe better though.

At least you're moving up in the world to a Manticore, you won't have these problems again, and if you do, it's just a lower shaft connector replacement next time.

The country of origin and shipping from is Ukraine, so could there be a issue on getting what is needed from this auction?

A gentleman on another website clued me in that the “tree tap” is actually a brass tent rope adjuster.  No idea of the age, but that style was in use during the Civil War.  I will have to examine it closely and see if there is a patent date or any writing.

From what I have read the rope tensioners from the Civil War were made of wood, here's a patent for the metal ones that dates 1880.

Civil War era rope tensioners were as mentioned made of wood and usually in the shape of a dog bone, some can be seen in this photo of Abe Lincoln in a Civil War camp at the Battlefield of Antietam, Maryland

Old guy, but new to Metal Detecting. Purchased Whites MXT series 6 at garage sale, almost new. It has standard Eclipse  950 coil. All works good, trying to learn settings for success, Also live near the coast and would like to search in water during low tide. I have read that most coils are waterproof to a degree. Would old timers recommend using some type of "bag" over the coil to insure waterproofing? i.e. garbage bag. Only going in about 2-3' of depth. I know not to wet control box.

Also I'm in Hattiesburg area should anyone like to get together sometime.

The coil should be fine unless it's has some cracks you can't see or the coil wire has cracks.

Also if you go more than 1 foot deep you WILL risk getting the control box wet, at 2 feet deep any wave can easily splash water onto and into the control box, at 3 feet deep the control box will be in the water for sure!!!

That all being said if you do use it in the water, be very careful of getting the coil higher than the control box while using or putting it back in your vehicle to return home as any water inside the rod can easily run up the rod and get into the control box, even a little bit of water can do damage if it gets into the control box, especially salt water.

I would suggest just using it out of the water, or just very shallow water at best.

Good idea, thanks. I'm going to return the ML 35 as soon as it gets here as Ron suggested and will order one of these rechargeable ones. Anybody using any of the 3 above that can chime in here and advise on it? I'm reading the Amazon reviews on them, but you know how that can go.....

There's a recent topic on just this.

@strick who actually knows, maybe they were all to busy celebrating the Garrett's 60th anniversary, to make sure things got done and packed correctly LOL, its anyone's guess

If there was alcohol being served at the anniversary party that could explain the little opened box and the missing items!! LOL

I  think you guys are confusing the main Garrett.com website with the Garrett Direct shopping sub-site. They have separate search functions. The way I found the bolt was by putting "bolt" into the Garrett Direct search bar. Won't work if you do it at Garrett.com

I was at the Garrett Direct website but the search function after typing in "bolt" just goes on and on and I never get a result, I tried the same with a search for "Axiom" and got the same results.....which was nothing.

Edit: I never give up, I just tried again and finally got the search function to work.

That is strange I have searched the Garrett Direct website several times and those parts are not coming up for me but when I clicked the Link that @Steve Herschbach posted they came rite up

Ordered two extra sets, the shipping is kind of expensive for those little parts that could be put in a letter size envelope and sent LOL

Just an FYI, I checked their website and used their search function, which didn't seems too work at all for anything, but I clicked the drop down menu for "Sport Products" and then to the far right I clicked on under accessories "Stems, Coverups And Replacements Parts" and found the Axiom coil bolts and washers there.

i think what people see on tv is not really whats happening in some of these places,i feel totaly safe and people bend over backwards to help you.

What people see on TV does really happen, just not all the time.

Yes they are good people everywhere, a majority really that will bend over backwards to help you...but in some places such as parts of the Philippines you never know when you may meet up with the bad people of the world who would just as soon rob, kidnap or murder you, so it's really a gamble IMHO and I wish you luck and safe ventures!!

So just keep your wits about you and don't trust all you meet!!

  11. The UN Blower brush was made to clean camera lens, etc., they are made by a company in Japan who first started making them in 1958, the brush attachment can be remove and use the blub as just a blower for whatever needs blowing, so you can very well use it for starting a fire I guess!!

They also made other shapes, attachments and even some of different colors as well.

I inherited a few boxes of of older publications from an old oil well log library. Among them is a booklet by the DOI called "Gold in Meteorites and the Earth's Crust". I don't think it's available online though.

No scanner here, so here is a photo of the chart from this paper on the general gold content in many types of meteorites, just for general interest. 1ppm = 1 gram/ton more or less.

So it seems the iron meteorites are the ones that tend to have the highest gold content.

  13. Check out Matt Mattson's YouTube Gold related videos, all of these were made and are there simply to educate on finding gold.

Matt and many of his friends found pounds and pounds of gold mostly dredging but he knows how to do it all, they did this many years ago but now Matt just loves to teach others via YouTube in his retirement years.

He also has other videos on many subjects but the following link is to his mostly his gold videos and a few gem related videos. pick and choose or watch them all, they're all great.
