  1. The gold bug 2 is teaching me a lot about metal detecting...mostly about digging...been doing a lot of that...but having so much fun... Been going to old hydraulic mining sites and the history I see and dig is amazing to me...boot tacks..old tobacco containers...old mining equipt...etc etc.. Mostly etc...lol ...thnx

I you're finding lots of trash, it tells me that not many detectors have been in the area, so keep beeping, after you get most of the trash out of the way is when you could start finding nuggets that were hidden/masked by the trash.

Don't hesitate to going back over ground that you have already detected especially if you do so perpendicular to the direction you detected it before, many nuggets have been found by doing this, this is especially applies in areas where you have found nuggets.

  2. Thanks for the info.guys, looks like some good research thanks chris. I will cut some of the inside eggs and see whats there,we are in very fossilized country here i live 20 miles from fossil oregon they find fossils regularly at the highshool track there. Maybe space eggs i like that old theory. The picture of the two small eggs is the centers of them.

    Rick,

I'm not so sureidunno.gif I would cut into those "eggs" maybe an alien inside them, once you release one it will release all the others mad0264%5B1%5D.gif  mad0228%5B1%5D.gif, it will be Orson Wells all over again, the War of The Worlds, Martians attacking everywhere!!! speechless-smiley-040%5B1%5D.gif th.gif

  3. Jason,

I can see where you're right with the companies being behind the times when comparing the electronics of detectors to computers and smartphones of today and as the younger tech savvy generation future detectorists are getting into this hobby I can see this being the future of detectors.

That being said and in respect of not hijacking this topic, maybe you could start a new topic on this subject and see what the interest of others on this subject is.

  4. I agree that having detectors that are tweakable/hackable would most likely not be a great selling point, while there are some detectorists that have the tech know how to do the hacking to personalize a detector to their liking, a large percentage of detectorists will most likely make the detector less sensitive than it was originally, if not completely useless.

On another note, I'm not all that knowledgeable on how detectors and coils are tuned to each other, but if I'm not mistaken a coil has nothing but winding inside it with no electronics, so therefore I believe that a detector is tuned to the particular a coil/s instead of the coil/s being tuned to the detector, anyone with knowledge of this tuning process please add your input.

  5. Thanks Steve, I would also like to add and give thanks to Nugget Shooter's 6 active Moderators who do a great job when Bill and I are not on the forum, we all work as a group to keep the forum on a even keel, we also as a group vote on forum policy/rules changes and actions towards violations of forum rules, without our Moderators it would be a very tough job at times!

  6. Steve and JP, I have much respect  for your commitments to Minelab, Bill at Nugget Shooter forum and I as an Administrator (Au Seeker) while trying our best to allow freedom of speech do not and will not allow personal badgering between members or personal attacks towards it's members, if you have any issues there please let me know immediately, I try my best to catch such replies quickly, but I may miss one while at work.

  7. Thank you sir klunker. I will. I won a 505 in a raffle and my wife likes it. So now mom want to go out too. I'm not real sure how much she will like it or even go out. But she has expressed interest in it. Just don't want to overspend on it.

From the statement you just made it's appears to me that the Ace series is the detector to buy for your MIL, they are a great value for the money and work very well for their price range, easy to operate for a beginner and can be sold as used for little lost in investment if your MIL losses interest, or you can keep it for friends to try out their hand at a new hobby!!!

  8. I have thought a 4WD van would make a nice compromise for prospecting and camping. For that kind of money though I would probably invest in a small house!

Another sign of getting old I guess. I just can't believe what new vehicles cost.

agree, I have felt that way for a many number of years, it's a shame that a good new vehicle now cost as much as a small home, I have never bought a new vehicle, if it isn't at least 3 to 4 years old and has depreciated substantially, I'm not interested.

That being said, I could change my mind if I hit the lottery!!

  9. Tom,

it's actually quite a story for me..

my mom passed 3 yrs this coming March 12..anyhoo I lost my best friend that day..I fell into a spiral downfall and relapsed..A mth later I lost it all and was a single dad trying to raise 2 teenage daughters ..long story short we became homeless living in a mini van and camping in a tent .. i got clean and made our way to california from fl and found my first piece of gold on fathers day 2013..IT WAS ON ...MY NEW ADDICTION...GOLD!!! I stayed in the river 7 days a week 5-10 hrs a day.. In one mth I got us out of a homeless situation by thanksgiving of 2013 I found over 9oz of gold...I was sniping ..sluicing ..panning..In Dec of 2013 we set out and mined Oregon...indiana..montana..idaho..n. carolina..georgia..and colorado..In April 2014 I grounded in Douglas City Ca. With my wife and daughters...gold has blessed me and saved my life in more ways then one.... metal detecting is my level of mining...just don't have my own yet..saving for a decent one ..been metal detecting with my neighbor who has found lbs of gold over the last 30 yrs and has showed me some decent oz+ size nuggets..anyhoo yup I'm a newbie to mining ...an olé timer told me I have a gift for it.. yup gold feeds my family..NOPE NOT RICH!!!.. anyway thnx for letting me share my story ...first time I've talked about it... next expedition is going to be Alaska..it's on my bucket list!!!!

     Nugget,

That's a great and inspiring story, the best I have heard of someone getting started in gold prospecting and getting their life back on track yesss.gif, you're an asset to the mining community, IMHO!!

Thanks for sharing your story with us, I wish you the very best for the future! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

  10. I have the Magnum 500 like the one posted by Steve above, as like Steve's it the older version which I bought from AMDS (Alaska Mining and Diving Supply) I'm guessing it's at least 10 to 12 years old, maybe older, I bought it back when Steve still was there, it still works well.

I also have one that's accurate to 1/1000 of a gram but I don't remember the manufacturer of it, I don't use it that often and would have to remember where it is and dig it out to see who makes it.

  11. Wow, what an exhilarating night that must have been. Crazy.

Just out of interest, does anyone know what the value of each of those different coins would be, if they were sold today?

Rumblefish, this site will give you some idea of the value of those coins and you will be guessing at the condition of each coin, but keep in mind the values listed are for PCGS graded coins, it would cost you to have them graded but if the coin is in very, very good condition and or a "key" date, e.g. meaning a rare dated coin, in such a case the cost of having them graded would be well worth it over selling them ungraded.

  12. I use AA Eneloops and I think Eneloops are the best quality batteries out there but I couldn't find any C cell Eneloops.  Do you know if they make them?  I bought some AA Tenergy batteries and the OD was too large to fit in my Made in USA  Mini Mag Light AA flashlight (which pissed me off)  although they seem to work OK in detectors and other devices where the size requirement isn't important.

Bob, apparently they use to make C cells but now it seems that they make adapters, but it maybe possible that the C cellsare still being made...

    http://www.bing.com/search?q=C+cell+Eneloop&form=MS8TDF&pc=MS8TDF&src=IE-SearchBox

BUT if they do still make them, one might want to read this info on Eneloops C and D cells that they did make that I found doing a search for them, apparently Sanyo put AAA cells inside the C and D cells to save cost it's assumed and it's thought that sometimes all the AAA cells inside them may not take a full charge if one of the AAA cells are defective, but I let you read it and decide if you should use the C cell Enloops if they are still being made, that all being said the topic linked below is about 5 years old and things at Sanyo could have changed to them making "real" C and D cells, or maybe not since the last post in the topic was in 2013...

or you can get adapters that use a single AA cell to make your own C cells, but you may not get the same MAH ...

or these adapters that use 3 AAA cells to make a C cell...

  13. Junkman, go to Rob Allisons forum Check out the postings by "Local Digger".  He is finding some decent gold in Virginia.  You might be able to glean some info that will help you out.  He hasn't posted lately, so go back maybe a couple years.  Good luck, and have fun.

I look yesterday after I posted here so I could post links to what he has found, Local Digger's posts are still there, but unfortunately all the photos of the all nuggets he has found are not, I think after a certain period of time old photos are removed from posts to reduce the forum load.
