    Did you ever check to see if a hose screws into it, or if threads are in bad shape is it at least the right size.?

    If size seems right but threads are bad put a hose to it with tape or anything to seal or reduce water leakage and see if it acts like a hose nozzle.

    In her photos you can see the threaded end is around or smaller than her thumb, the inside would be even smaller, so no way a water hose will fit it.

    @Mike305,

    I know this is a few years old... but am in the same position as you (viper on apex, thinking superfly).

    I see Regtons now has a warning that there is an issue using the superfly Nel coil in MS mode on the beach, and they've reduced the price due to this...

    Have you used the superfly on MS mode at the beach in salt saturated sand? Noticed any issues?

    Any update on you experience of using the superfly to find on edge silver coins?

    I'm hoping you are still around to reply,

    Best regards,  Karl.

    @Mike305

    @karlchick you didn't get your "mention" of Mike305 correct for him to be notified so he will see your question, so I mentioned him here in my post in hope it will get him to see you post, according to his profile he was last on the forum on June 22.

    I've found that to properly mention someone you have to type the @ symbol then start typing the username, a user list will popup below where you're typing, keep typing until you see the correct name and then click on it and it then should look like the mentions I did above, if you type the complete name and not click on the user from the list the mention doesn't seem to work.

  3. The only way to know if there's gold is to do some sample panning.

    That being said you want to look for rounded gravel/rocks, angular rocks have never been in a stream, gold is first formed in hardrock/seams, the rock/seams erodes and the gold washes downhill into streams and gets deposited in various parts of the stream, and time marches on the streambed migrates to another spot leaving rounded rocks and if any gold in the stream it will be with the rounded rock.

    So look for rounded rocks in a known gold bearing area will increase your chances of finding any gold left in the area.

    That is not the way to rob a armored car, but I could see someone doing that in that part of the state.

    I would hate to pick up all those coins just because I wouldn't be able to keep them.

    Once they're done clearing up the wreck and any of those pennies still in bags there will be plenty of loose pennies left on the ground that they will not brother to pickup, not worth the time involved for just pennies.

    So I'm sure you could go there afterwards and pickup as many pennies as you can and keep them, go for it!!!

    Man that’s a good question. One found in Europe vs one found in an American POW compound, hard to tell what if any difference there would be. I would say there’s probably a market for these kinds of things, I’m just not familiar with any. I will say this, when I first found out what it was my immediate reaction being stunned, then the thought struck me, “This dude took a bullet for Adolph Hitler.” It’s a pretty sobering thought. Some would place a higher value on its worth than others, so I’m sure there’s some market around

    Here's a link to some for sale, keep in mind these are non-dug and intact, i.e. they have the pin on the back.

  6. Hard to say just from those photos, would need to see the interior of the piece to even possibly make a guess.

    You need to grind one of the edges smooth so we can get a good look at the interior, doing this is called a "window", it will not affect/decrease the value of the piece if it is indeed a meteorite.

    This can be done with good piece of emery cloth wrapped around a flat stick or a metal file or a combination of both, the smoother you can get it the better.

    If it turns out we think it could be a meteorite you will still need to get it "certified" by a meteorite expert/s, to prove it is indeed a meteorite.

  7. I just heard on the news this morning that there has been 5 cases of Malaria reported being contracted in the USA for the first time in around 20 years, 4 in Florida  and 1 in Texas, there have been many other cases reported in the USA in the past 20 years but all were contracted abroad while traveling.

    Can you help me in telling me what is this stone? ring.pdfThis was my mother's ring and it was given to her by her mother in law. My parents got married in 1977 and I am not sure how long my grandmother had it prior to gifting it to her.

    It would be better if you just posted a photo, not many will click on a PDF file that they're not sure of!!

    Hi All, I'm a new potential prospector in Northern California. I'd like to do some prospecting in streams in the El Dorado National Forest. The El Dorado County folks seem fairly reasonable in terms of encouraging recreational gold panning in the National Forest and in the County in general, but I'd rather sluice than pan. So, I'd appreciate an evaluation of my intended methods, and their legality under current California laws and regulations:

    1) Recover sand and small gravel from creekbeds using a hand auger like the ones AMS makes (see below);

    image.jpeg.bd5c917c276e326dd82f2e1a12c594fd.jpeg

    2) Run the sand and small gravel through a sluice placed in the creek, like the sluice below;

    image.jpeg.cbfc69693c96ebe8a64cefeea1bdc8fd.jpeg

    3) After sluicing in the creek, rinse the sluice mat contents into a bucket and take the bucket home.

    So, in your opinion, is there anything illegal about my process? Would my methods require a permit?

    Thank you for your time! I appreciate any and all answers. Jim_Alaska, I hope you will respond.

    More than likely the feds and the tax man. Then there are property owners and thieves even though no one with a lick of sense would keep such items at home.Their fifteen minutes of fame so to speak could cause a poo storm.

    According to the article, the identity of the finder will not be revealed, also all the coins were sent to NGC to be cleaned and graded, then the coins went be sold by GovMint which is one the biggest and best rare coin dealers in the country, so I'm sure all the bases are covered.

    I would guess the finder either owns the land the coins were found on or he made a deal with the land owner.

    Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) was honored to recently certify an incredible cache of rare Civil War-era coins found in the Bluegrass State. “The Great Kentucky Hoard” (as it had been designated) includes a group of finest-known 1863 Double Eagles and hundreds of US Gold Dollars dated 1850 to 1862, as well as a small number of silver coins. Several interesting varieties and errors were also discovered.

    :biggrin: Frankly, if you made the cover blaze orange that would almost be functionally more useful to me than camo as my relic detecting activities sometimes overlap with local hunting seasons and I have to take precautions.

    Agreed.  Not a hell of a lot of difference.  Just a personal preference as I am just a drab solids guy.  I don't try to make some kind of style statement with my gear, so  I avoid camo because it serves no useful functional purpose while detecting and can give some property owners the wrong impression that I'm into stealth detecting or nighthawking.  I'm will don blaze orange if needed for safety.

    I'm not a prospector, but I do relic detect often in wooded areas and sometimes hunker down and dig pits where CW encampments existed.  This is often a drawn out process and sometimes requires that I trek back forth to my vehicle for one thing or another.  So I leave the detector where it is if I plan on returning rather than lugging it back and forth.  Camo doesn't help in that regard, but I can easily deal with it, if needed, as you so thoughtfully pointed out.

    For what its worth, I've purchased a number of Docs GPX accessories over the years including two Screamer modules, and various swing assist products for relic detecting not prospecting.  Love them functionally  and also loved their understated looks.

    Glad the digital camo has juiced sales for you, Doc.  Just not my cup of tea.  I understand you have to pick one design and go with it in this situation.  Therefore, there's no way you can please all the people all the time.  So I'll probably be missing out on the fun this time around.  My loss.

    Happy Hunting and good luck on the new product launches. 👍

    Here's a way to get the cover and make it your color.
