I updated mine last weekend and used it 2 times on beaches in Maui. The main thing that I noticed was that I only dug 2 tent stakes over 8 hours of detecting. Prior to the update I dug many stakes every time out. I have a huge pile of them in my garage. I feel it ran smoother in the salt water after the update too. On dry sand I didn't notice any performance differences (other than not digging a bunch of tent stakes).

Similar in concept to the cheap clamps I made. The problem I had was it spinning on the shaft even with the plastic nut until I installed the rubber piece. They will spin and slide unless they can be tightened.

I would be detecting the cut at the top of the slope and down the slope into the surf. Maybe he already did?

I made these clips for my old GP3000-GPX5000. They worked fantastic. They let the coil cable slide up and down to not allow any tension where the cable enters the coil, but won't let it fall down and false the detector. I actually found a rubber piece from a metal electrical connector that was a perfect fit for the larger plastic clip that made it even better for not spinning around the shaft. I'll find one after work and take a picture of it. Here are some pictures from a long time ago when I posted this fix. By leaving the smaller clamp "open" it's easy to change coils and the clip is strong enough that over thousands of hours I never had a coil cable come out of it. Added a picture of the metal electrical fitting that I took the rubber gasket off of and put it on the plastic clamp that goes on the lower shaft. Once tightened, the cable won't move except freely up and down the shaft.

All Doc's innovative products are on every detector I own. My Manticore arm cuff sucks! It was rubbing so bad on my forearm that it wore into my skin and it got so bloody and bad I couldn't use it for a couple days. I actually have a scar on my arm from it. Doc didn't advertise the arm cuff and screen cover for the Manticore, but I found it on his website. I put Doc's arm cuff cover on and now I can use it all day in comfort. Thanks Doc!

Big surge in Hawaii also. Some erosion netted me 5 rings. 2 14k men's wedding bands, 1 tungsten carbide, 1 silver that looks pretty old, and a stainless spinner. Unfortunately, had to leave after 2 hours to take my daughter to her surfing lesson. Hope tomorrow brings more erosion!!! Good luck out there!

What shaft are you using on the deus?

Most public beaches in Hawaii are open to metal detecting except as mentioned above. What island are you going to visit? One thing if going to Maui, the locals are not crazy about tourists in the Lahaina area right now due to the fire and they are actually camping on Kaanapali beach in protest. I was there 2 weeks ago and there were hardly any tourists in that area.

Regardless of how buggered I would be, finding that many rings would motivate me to out every day or night until that place gets sanded in. Nice finds! Hope you didn't leave some behind...

Great write up! Hawaii is an amazing place and your pictures prove it. We loved it so much we bought a house there! Congrats on the white gold ring. That's a great find. Hunting in the surf is definitely a tough task, but can be rewarding. The sea life is always fun to see. The monk seals are protected and on Maui they usually set up a perimeter of safety fencing to keep people away from them. My wife and daughter love the turtles and have named a few of them that we regularly see at the beach across the street from our house. Unfortunately, we won't be able to see them for a couple years because our house is in Lahaina. We are one of the few "lucky" people that didn't lose our house to the fire.

Great report! I planned on attending but other life things got in the way. The Mountain Messenger (Downieville Newspaper) reported that the event will be on again next year. Sure wish I could have made it this year so hopefully they are correct and it will be again next year. Apparently it used to be a yearly event, but I don't ever recall the event in prior years. They used to block off upper Main Street for events which was a lot of fun. The Messenger did say that by Sunday afternoon the restaurants were basically out of food.

Another loss to our community. Seems to be happening to often lately. RIP One Guy. You will be missed.
