  1. That's what separates us here on DP from the rest. It's a special group.
  2. I'm new to beach detecting (but have countless hours and success detecting gold nuggets) and the best advise I can give you is to dig every target that sounds off on your detector. Pay attention to the sounds each target gives. A couple weeks ago when I was in Maui I figured for another bottle cap and it turned out to be a white gold with diamonds ring. You never know unless you dig it up. Get out and start digging targets!
  3. Great story and how awesome to find a ring that once belonged to your grandmother! I bet you find a lot more good stuff at the "old" beach.
  4. I should have been more specific that my experience is with the Equinox. Had it happen a few times last trip to Maui. Your post was the first time I've heard of this happening so now I'll keep digging until the target comes out of the hole. I appreciate the advise. Next trip over will be with a Manticore!
  5. Great finds for only a couple trips and even nicer with the gold. I have not had too much experience beach detecting as with nugget hunting. Interesting what you said about the target disappearing after the first scoop. Looking back I had this happen a few times now and gave up on the target figuring the detector ignored it for iron once some sand was removed. I'll remember this for next time. Thanks for sharing the info.
  6. Finally getting around to update my original post. Was over in Maui for a week and now back on the mainland. Tested the men's band with my diamond tester and turns out all stones are real (I guess they could be lab grown? but the jeweler should know)! Looking through the website for DazzlingRock, I can't find the exact ring, but there are so many 10k white gold with diamonds I'm not going to look through all of them. Most likely over $500 (could be more) so I am really happy! Today is my 22 year anniversary with my wife so I am thinking of taking it to our local jeweler to see if he can resize it and turn it into a ring for my wife. Only hunted one more time for about 2 hours this trip because had a small surfing accident and cracked a rib and sliced open my big toe the day after finding the rings! Getting old sucks! Found some change and a very new tungsten carbide man's wedding band and some costume jewelry. Last find was at the airport at home. My wife and kid's went to baggage claim and I went to get the truck to pick them up. Sitting right next to my rear passenger door was a .925 silver bracelet! 23.3 grams! Great way to finish a great trip. And yes I have looked at the lost and found from the airport and nothing.
  7. Sweet! That's a great way to start off using a new machine and a new year. Friday the 13th might be lucky for you!
  8. Holy crap that's a fatty! Maybe I missed it, but what does it weigh?
  9. awesome finds! Hope you get the detector all fixed up and get out and find a pile more! That gold cross and chain look fantastic.
  10. Or not. Mine already already arrived and I was not the first on the list. No hype, just good customer service.
  11. Give Doc or Gerry a call. I'll bet one of them can get you one.
  12. Wow! Amazing finds. Bucket list for just about everybody that reads this thread!
  13. Way to start off the New Year Simon! Those are nice!
  14. I bought a Deus II just for underwater hunting in Hawaii. Took it over last week and had to update it. It was difficult to understand even how to update it (which I finally got to work) and not to mention figure out how to get it into underwater mode without screwing up any of the other settings, I just dry sand detected with the Equinox instead. I purchased the underwater shaft kit for it and set it all up. Maybe next trip I'll give it a go? Or maybe I'll just use a Manticore/ Nox 900 underwater? The Minelab is so user friendly compared to the Deus II!
  15. Wow! Crazy that somebody would carry that to the beach. Nice find for you though!
  16. Now that's a sun baker! Most I have found were small almost pickers. Congrats!
  17. Nice score on the silver! Any precious metal find makes a good day. Being out doing what you love makes it even better.
  18. I was wearing my headphones thanks to Eric's post and still had a lady insist on asking me questions as I ignored her. I FINALLY took off my headphones and she she asked me "is that a metal detector?" I had to put my headphones on and walk away. She was pissed at me!
  19. Either you have massive hands or it must have been a children's ww2 camp? Nice finds for sure!
  20. That's a great find! A good weight of silver for the poke.
  21. .77 grams. Nice finds! Wish I was prospecting for gold nuggets more often and I would get an Axiom. Thanks for the contest!
