  1. That's awesome! 🙂 No feel free to chime in anytime ha. I love talking about metal detecting and I still have a lot to learn. I've found 3 hallmarked rings and I just all the time wonder if I am missing something. I want to make sure I am set up to find just about anything metal out there lol.
  2. Sure thing, no problem at all 🙂 I was just wondering. I run horseshoe on always. Does that "remove" discrimination technically? I am wondering if it would pick up the gold chain with horseshoe. Yea definitely it seems complex. So weird, my 800 will pick up the SMALLEST targets I am noticing. I have heard similar things about missing gold chains and I was always wondering why since it seems to happen a lot.
  3. Haha thanks for the advice 🙂 I'm still digging a lot of foil just because its so easy to move the sand around and getting a feel for it. Wait, it didn't pick up the chain at all? Even going over it? Was iron bias the reason? Or was there another reason as to why the 800 didnt pick it up?
  4. Very awesome picture though! Wow that is crazy to have that ring up as a 1, I guess because of the weight being light and gold being not very conductive?
  5. Haha dang, that is certainly crazy. Everything that I get to ring up as a 1 or 2 on the beach is crumbled up aluminum foil (like the kind in candy wrappers or mints)
  6. Is anything worthwhile ever going to ring up as a 1 or 2? Like, could you find a gold ring at 1 on the VDI on the equinox 800? I was just wondering if these ultra low conductivity numbers will be trash or have a chance at being gold or something of value? It's right next to the trash range so just checking to see what everyone things. I do beach detecting if this matters 🙂
  7. Hi everyone, I just had a question as it seems like the goal is to detect deeper targets, so it would seem that you would want to achieve as much depth as possible. When I lower my recovery speed from 6 to 5, I should be getting a little bit deeper measurably, Is that correct? WWould increasing sensitivity get me more depth as well? I was just wondering their comparison between lowering recovery speed and depth, versus what role does sensitivity actually play? Does sensitivity just help amplify targets and not really get you any deeper? TThanks so much.
  8. Hi Everyone, What is the best advice/tips that you can give to a beach detectorist to find jewelry or other valuable targets? Just curious because I know that years of experience beats all in most cases. Have a great day!
  9. Ok and when you said "a break down in the signal", - Something ferrous will have a "break down" which means the signal will like, sound differently or sound like iron? - But a non-ferrous target will sound completely the same as you circle it from all angles? Is that right? Or can you elaborate on what a break down is of signal? Thanks for your time, sorry to bother you, I just want to learn everything that I can.
  10. Thanks for the info. So the 360 look, this terminology is a bit new to me. So when you investigate a target, sometimes its better to move your coil in a circular motion instead of side to side? Can you explain?
  11. Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation and kind words 🙂 I am feeling a lot better. Such a great community here and I feel very welcome in the forums. Thanks again for your time, I am obsessed with learning more and more about this, I feel like I can't stop reading. I detect during the day on my off days and then read every night about detecting. It's a very fun hobby.
  12. Ok thanks for the tip :)I am very new to the terminology, what is "IB"?
  13. Does ground grab mean "auto ground balancing"? like does that mean to hold the accept/reject button and move your coil? After doing this, do you still need to put it in tracking ground balance mode too on top of that?
  14. Same here, 4 gets super chatty underwater. Very odd. Maybe I could lower sensitivity next time at 4 and give it a shot.
  15. Thanks that makes sense. Do you know what causes the wraparound stuff? I've noticed that if I scan a ferrous target, It will sometimes ding higher in the range unless I go very very slowly over the target. Is it because there's some conductive content in there? Or is it just kind of like you said a glitch to where it just happens to break squelch before it realizes that it's ferrous?
  16. Thanks for all of the questions I will definitely look into those while troubleshooting. I have noticed that when I do jerk the detector one way or or another. Like say I will flick my wrist from side to side that the machine will sound off. Why does it do this? Does this mean that something is wrong? My connections are all nice and tight. I will play with the wire. I do notice as well it sounds off when I move the coil a bit quicker underwater, maybe this is causing more resistance on the coil which is making it sound off? I'm just wondering why the coil sounds off when there is flicking or when there's a slightly quick motion. Maybe this is all normal and my machine is not defective?
  17. Thanks so much, I appreciate it 🙂 I think that is my issue. I have just been clicking ground balance tracking. My sensitivity was 20. But I think I will auto ground balance first, then do tracking and see if that helps 🙂 I also hear that raising recovery speed in the water helps? Is this true? Like i notice at 4 its a bit chatty in the water, but recovery 6 is less chatty? is this a thing?
  18. Is it possible for detector to make a noise but not show screen info? Like if I am hovering over a target and it barely picks it up, is it possible to hear the noise but get no screen info (VDI number) for it? Like if its maybe a little too deep underground? With Equinox 800
  19. Thanks very much for the detailed response 🙂 I appreciate the help. I have 2 questions if you dont mind. - To clarify, do I do the auto ground balance while coil is underwater for underwater detecting? Then set it to tracking ground balance underwater as well? - Also, When I lower sensitivity, how much depth do I actually lose? Like is going from 20 to 18 sensitivity going to make me miss a target? Is it like an inch difference or is it a huge difference?
  20. Hi everyone, I've been doing beach detecting and I'm new to it. This applies to both on dry sand and completely underwater detecting. More so with underwater I guess. With the 800 In beach two mode, just default out of the box equipment, My detector will sometimes make noise at the end of my swing when I start swinging the other way. It will also make noise when I tilt my wrist from left to right. The screen will also show numbers (falsing?) Sometimes faint noise sounds like a chirp really faint, sometimes it makes a noise at the beginning of each swing or changing directions. Is the detector broken or just sensitive? New to this. Is sensitivity too high underwater? 20.
  21. Equinox 800 default setup out of the box, beach 2 settings, 20 sensitivity, auto ground settings. So, I'm waist deep in water, and when I swing the equinox underwater from left to right, sometimes it will make a ding noise, of a faint ding. Sometimes also when I tilt the equinox from side to side in my hand, it will ding like it hits a target. I am using the out of the box (not waterproof) bluetooth headset, but its not wet. And screen isn't underwater. It sounds very chatty but it also sounds like bluetooth headset is cutting in and out, while its being chatty. Is my sensitivity too high? What could be causing this? I was seeing if my machine was broken but others say it is working as intended and I just need a wired in headset. I get faint chirp sounds like I found a target, but I get all types of falsing when just swinging the machine underwater. Faint noises, sound cutting out momentarily, it just doesn't seem right. Brand new machine 2 weeks old, and I'm new at detecting 🙂 thanks for your help.
  22. Hi Everyone, New to detecting 🙂 hope you are all doing well. What's the best/most lucrative way to sell jewelry? - Gold rings - Diamond rings - Silver? Do you sell to a jeweler or privately? Just curious. Thanks for the tips and good luck out there.
  23. That's awesome thanks so much for all of the information as I am very new to detecting. I really appreciate the help and I'll be looking into all of this.
  24. For metal detecting on the beach, what is a very good beach scoop with a long handle that will not rust and is very high quality? It doesn't have to be extremely high quality I just don't want it to rust or break for a very long time. I bought one for $130 and the metal handle folded and the hardware was eaten up by rust, so I'm just trying to do some research before ordering one this time. Thanks in advance for your help! 🙂
