  1. The overall audio dynamics have changed for sure, and in a good way.  Audio is much more dynamic and reactive than before. Pwm and high square have a lot to offer to a good listener.  I’m personally not going to mess around too much with the audio filter, because I want to hear and understand what the audio is telling me.   I’m thinking that perhaps there was a type of set audio filter on the previous versions, which differed from the D1 and is why many of us were keen to note the difference.

My guess is they used the word "free" as a form of marketing, to say look we do updates to our detector for free which improve performance, I highly doubt they're considering charging for updates.

The reason for signing up to their website to be able to get updates is nothing unusual either, it's great for marketing and research purposes.  They harvest every Deus users email address and send them newsletters and the like of their new products and whatever else they feel like sending out.

It's the same reason Minelab request you sign up to their site to register your warranty, it's information harvesting, you have warranty regardless as you have your receipt from the dealer with date of purchase, there is really no need to sign up at all and when people say oh but it's so they have your detector registered so it makes warranty easier it makes it no different, your proof of purchase is still required to claim the warranty as registering the warranty has no proof of date of purchase, only the receipt does that.

Yeah I’m not reading too much into it either.  If they didn’t say “free”, new users would question whether or not they’d be charged if they clicked on it.  Marketers are darned if they do or darned if they don’t. Either way they don’t care because it’s the support team that has to deal with what they did😀

Chase,  Your perception/thought process should hold true even if there are some differences in the filtering/processing of the signal between the search programs that are unknown.  This added ability to limit the max frequency is going to prove very useful for users that take the time to "think" out how they approach a site based on actual conditions. Wet, conductive ground, especially combined with high mineralization or heavy decomposed iron(rusty ground) is a real challenge many do not consider enough.  When you get your Program table in a more finalized form showing the possible combinations you will have a powerful tool.

Yes.  The rusty ground scenario is one of the main reasons why I mainly ended up using General as my go to  base program.  Rusty bits along with coal ash even in fairly dry ground can really affect things.

  4. I was thinking along those lines today. My custom program assortment got simplified with the advent of max frequency choice.  The names of my current custom programs I’m tinkering with for land hunting are simply “freqadd, soilsub, vcoadd, vcosub”.  I think that frequency addition and soil subtraction have not been given enough thought by many users, but can make a huge difference.

has anyone noticed that the TID's for high conductive coins seems to have gone down

at least how i run in 24khz max. zinc was 86-87, dimes 92-93, quarters were 95-96 and halves were 96-97

now it seems like zinc is 82ish, dime 90ish, quarter 93, half 96

this is good news if this is indeed the case. but these are just limited air tests. havent had time in the field yet.

I dug a shield nickel yesterday with an in the ground VDI of 58 (at 24khz max)  which I thought was pretty low.  I’ll definitely test some samples when I get home.  Thanks for the info

  6. I like old posts finding relevance again, and or providing insight to those reading from past to present looking for real answers.  I bought the deus 2 on ore-order, and I’d do it again at the good dealer price I got it for ($12xx).   I hunt old foundations filled with iron and this machine is able to sniff out the good stuff among it all.  You just need to be willing to experiment, observe, and learn. Give any detector those opportunities and you will have success.  Give a great detector those opportunities  and you’ll never stop being surprised.

    Thanks Doc,

I keep mine as clean as possible and greased up, but it still sticks hard. I try not to over tighten it as it will squeeze the washer out. Square threads help a lot with that. I don't see any need for the red disc insert either. 🤔

Mine is always super tight as well. I was a machinist and am now one of those darned engineer guys and I wonder if the issue is the material and tolerance  more than the thread pitch or shape if threads?  I’m with you though F350. square threads are a better fit for repeated hand loosening/tightening cycles.  The trade off is that they don’t hand tighten to a seal as well though.

  8. You choose  vibration or no vibration in the mi6’s menus system. However the audio will match the audio of the program that you are running on the deus control unit.(either square or pwm). Also you control the mi6 sensitivity via the control unit.

    Good afternoon.

Many thanks to everyone for the discussion!

We were at the antique dealer today. He said that this eagle was indeed from the era of Napoleon!
The antiquarian is sure of this, as he has already met similar artifacts.
The eagle is gilded and, most likely, is a decorative element from a watch (watch case) or a cover element from an inkwell for writing.
He also said that with a very high probability the thing was made in a single copy for someone to order and there are no more analogues.

That’s an incredible find.  I’ve been searching for a match and haven’t found an exact one, so I’m glad you got a confirmation!  Epic display find for sure!

I was also running iron volume four, B caps five, and silencer two, square, pitch.  The nails I was catching were in the medium range (around 4 to 6 inches).

I have only had my D2 for about a month. Still climbing my way up the learning curve - low gear...  I may just have to take one of those nails I recovered, drop it in a hole and stick a coin close to it and see what happens.

So far, I have experimented back-and-forth with square versus PWM.  Even with nails and can slaw, I can’t discern a difference in tone with PWM from different approach directions. So for now, I’ve been sticking with square pitch trying to build experience and trust.

In this situation with sparse iron, would a higher silencer setting help?  As I’m running off of a modified fast I don’t think I have access to IAR, do I?  I have F350 Platinum’s relic reaper program set up in the neighboring slot, so I suppose I could just switch back to that and maybe tweak the IAR for the day.  But, I don’t know how deep a zone that would help before it perhaps became counterproductive.

Disc IAR is only available in gold and relic.  One thing that helps train the ear with the deus is the XY screen.  It for the most part displays what you’re hearing.  Not 100% but it can help.

  11. The red plug will allow pressure to build in the control box if it’s out in the hot sun or in a hot car for example.  The safe bet is to put the black plug in when you’re done diving, but I’m guessing it would be fine with the red plug all the time as long as you keep it out of the heat.

Just so others know, setting discrimination at 0 (00) makes iron false less because the detector is more likely to select a lower tone in full tones. 🙂

    I’ll definitely try that. Thanks

  13. I experimented that day with various settings and techniques and the 9” always gave a cleaner false than the 11. It’s just something interesting I noticed and wanted to share.
