I have used the 11” coil since I got my machine from ore-order however long ago that was. I got pretty used to the sounds and VDI variability of large or flat iron. I just got the 9” and have been trying it on my heavy iron sites, but noticed a notable increase in iron falses. Not just in sound but also in solid VDI’s with every setting and mode possible. To confirm it wasn’t just that day’s ground conditions, I put the 11” back on and went over the same spots. The 11” also sounded off on the iron, but didn’t give as pure a VDI or tone as the 9”. I have no conclusions, just wanted to give my observations. 🤷‍♂️. I’m also willing to accept the brand of crazy person for this. 😀

I’ve been spending some time with Relic and have been very impressed with its abilities in situations as you described. Definitely an underutilized program by me. General is on my list for experimentation.

And I also hope it’s not 0.72! But if it is at least our custom programs should migrate over during the update😀

I frequently experience vdi’s of 7 or 9 (never 8 ) with good non-ferrous tone. Some have been small iron with a small or thin non-ferrous, and some have just been very small iron with some symmetry In their shape. And that is regardless of tone choice other than full tones. Full tones just doesn’t know how to act or react yet. It’s like a hyperactive teen at his first job. However in Deep HC, small or large iron will false in both VDI and tone running stock discrim , but lowering the descrim will make that same target false in tone but read a 7 or 9 VDI. I haven’t noticed that in any other program, but I haven’t dwelled too much on it.

It’s possibly a livery button. The bird may not be an eagle, as many livery buttons or crests feature anything from ostriches to sparrows. Very cool find and I hope you let us know when you ID it.

PWM definitely plays better with my damaged ears. Tone variations are much more pronounced to me with PWM whereas square variations blend together if I can even discern a variation at all.

That area is definitely in the eastern gold belt. I’m in western PA where there may be a spec or 2 if you’re lucky, but I still enjoy the thrill of the find. Mostly I enjoy showing the few specs I get to my friends and family just to prove I’m not crazy. I plan to head down to the Rappahannock river for a weekend this spring to do a little recreational panning and hopefully detecting if I can. The campground owner says I’m welcome to do both, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have better luck finding gold and old bullets at a local pawn shop 😀. Should be a nice weekend away with my wife at least.

Good to know it did well in that dirt. I hope to get down that way sometime to detect and maybe pan for a little flour gold.

The brass piece is most likely a part of a clock. I find lots of those in mid-late 1800’s sites. I’m not real sure about the iron piece.

I’m a fan of the sensitivity allowance of the MI6 on the D2. I also run it full and do find that it rings in some of my local soils, but remember that if you turn it on in a clean pile of the same soil it balances itself.

I never really broke it down before, but I guess I spend a couple hours per acre on initial searches to get an idea of what’s there. If I find anything of interest, I stay till my wife calls and says it’s time to go home.

I’ve been using the 11 since I got the machine way back when and just got a 9” today. Wow what a difference in the swing! Now I can’t decide if I should sell the 11 to get the 11x13 or not. I like a notable size difference in my coil choices on hand.

Well said. Park is an intriguing program to say the least. The wide open approach seams to produce pretty good sounding false signals in bent or large iron in my dirt. Deep HC run the same way also falses quite a bit, but larger iron at least is more audibly apparent. Park is an interesting creature. Maybe it’s the frequency range, maybe it’s the program processes? Either way, it’s clearly worth spending a bit more time on.

I’d still like to see a computer interface that would allow importing, exporting, and customizing programs. Sure it’s easy enough to do on the control unit, but it would be great to have the ability to come back from the field and either revert back to a custom program or store a new variant. Even more, it would be great if program settings could be migrated through a utility from an older machine version to the latest one.

I think some well managed filter parameters could have benefit in some instances, even for an experienced person on the machine. But I still remain a fan of running no user controllable filters.

I’m guilty of setting filter settings of programs to their zero point with the thought that the filters may hide a target, but I may need to start letting the machine do a little more work now and then😀

Thanks guys this is interesting. Park is a program that seems to take a back seat to the sensitives and deep HC for general hunting and discussions.

Has anyone found the current park program ,or it as a base for a custom program, to be at all better in a detecting location? I’ve experimented with it constantly in various scenarios and have not really come to a conclusion on it yet. I’d like to hear your opinions.

I run a couple custom programs (fast and deep HC) with full tones as my primary search modes. However I also have similar programs next to them set to Pitch for the purpose of verifying an iffy full tone signal. I love the tone variation/modulation both tone choices provide on odd shaped objects or large iron, but have found that a higher reactivity (3+) in full tones will make an iron false much crisper and sound more like a good nonferrous target. I try to keep my ft programs at 2.5 or less. Pitch seems to still give a decent tone modulation with higher reactivities. Just my experience and thoughts

I’m guessing he we’ll see an XP video demonstrating/explaining the new update a while before it’s released to us. I was one of those guys that pre-ordered the D2, so I’m pretty used to being patient with this machine. Can’t complain much at all about the current version! But there are a few legitimate things that have been hashed out here and elsewhere that should be addressed, and I’m quite sure they will be Until then, I’ll keep swinging the current version with a great deal of confidence
