  1. I like the iron audio to be in the background, just loud enough to come thru clearly. Kinda like you would set a threshold level. Can't give an exact setting because it will depend on you hearing and the headphones used. Depending on the phones I'm using at the time it may be 1 or as high as 4.
  2. Thanks! Gotta love the soil around here, It's not unusual at all to get nice clean IH's and in the woods nothing is deep unless the ground has been disturbed at some point.
  3. I'm with Steve, just adjust on the fly. My only problem is those darn senior moments.
  4. The Nickel is just how it came out of the ground, spit cleaned only. Mom nature certainly has been making up for our hot and dry summer lately. Got another round of storms coming tomorrow but should settle down after that. Our sandy soil drains fast so not much problem with flooding. There are quite a few trees down in the area. Had to walk around a few going in that were not there last fall.
  5. Between downpours I had a small window to try out the 6" coil.. Fortunately I stumbled on an old Lumber Camp last fall that is less than 10 minutes from home so the plan was to get in a quick hunt and try out the new coil. I have hunted this site many times with a variety of machines since finding it and although coins are few and far between, between myself and a buddy we have managed some nice keepers there. Most coins are found within 20 feet or so of what we figure must have been the cook shack based on some large utensils and barrel bands from flour barrels found around the cellar hole. Actually found an advertising token for the flour brand there last fall. Dug a few bits of iron foolers getting the hang of the coil then about 15 minutes into the hunt got a solid 12 which was an 1887 V Nickel. A bit later got the small snap type button that looks like it could be off a pair of overalls or jeans. Dug some later brass and the tiny washer shown and then had to bug out of there due to weather. Solid iron grunts almost everywhere along with the usual rusty bits and flakes that can fool you into digging. Did dig a double blade axe head that rang in at 15 but knew it was a large target. Here's today's finds along with a pic showing the flour token and a crotal bell found last fall.
  6. Okay got the Pelso's today and while not as loud as the Hungarian phones that I have been using there is still plenty of room left to go much higher than I will ever use. I set the Hungarians at tone vol 10 with master volume set at 4. With the Kellyco phones, tone vol is at 25 with master volume at 18 for the same sound level which leaves plenty of adjustment to to go higher than just about anyone would ever need. Cord is heavy duty and taller guys especially will appreciate the extra length. Noise isolation I haven't really tested yet but seems about the same as the Hungarians after the mod I made adding insulation inside the cups. Have to agree with Daniel on the quality. They get a thumbs up from me.
  7. Sounds good . Mine arrives today but with all the rain it could be a while before I get a chance to try it out at some old sites.
  8. Daniel I have not tried the apps, using my sound level meter (radio shack) with a nickel as the target I get 54db on the non piezo Hungarian phones. Sens 20 volume 4, 2 tone vol 10 and pitch 20.
  9. Quite a difference thanks for the vid. I have the LS Pelso on the way for my Nox. I'm currently using the Hungarian version which look identical except for the cable. they are snug and fit on rather than over the ear which causes some discomfort ( have to keep re-adjusting them to relieve pressure). Not sure if these will alleviate that since the cups look the same.
  10. Sorta evens out the Brittania large pennies and pound coins I've gotten up here in the north woods of Michigan. LOL
  11. I have the 10x6 and 10x13 for the 705. Running the 10x6 at 18.75 Khz it's much better at ID'ing tabs vs nickels than the Nox and the 10x13 is way deep. Would love to have the 10x6 for the Nox! ?
  12. Nice pieces. Dog (is that its name?) looks to be in his element when out and about with you.
  13. Nice hunt. Waiting for things to shift around here as well. One of the sand bars I hunt is currently a vast area of Deep soft sand. Need the Gales of November to come early.
  14. Good job and nice quantity. I used to have the patience to grid while water hunting but lost it somewhere along the way. Now days a GPS track of my hunts would look like a 2 year olds drawing. LOL
  15. Thanks Steve, I've been in a bit of a slump lately but that comes with the territory. Still hitting it hard and regular. "Today's the day" I hope!
  16. I mostly dig the iron foolers unless they are large or deep (with a fainter dragged out tone) then I pass. It doesn't matter to me if negative numbers show, that is if I am actually watching the meter during the process, or there are iron tones mixed in I dig based on consistency of tone when the target is well centered under the coil. Like TNSS said it's also my experience that deeper targets can have faint iron sounds mixed in but still give a consistent overall tone and TID reading at some point in off angles of approach when centered. As he said it could be the ground itself or migrated iron from well rotted iron objects causing this. If approached with good coil control the Nox is very consistent on borderline targets. In fact, the word "iffy" almost doesn't apply with the NOX.
  17. Great hunt with some really cool finds. The button, toy gun and jeep are in great condition. I enjoy making those kind of finds and of course the half too!
  18. Nice find. Have never hunted up there for native copper but being a resident of the lower peninsula of Michigan we occasionally find artifacts from the Indian Copper Culture period. Here is a copper awl I found a few miles from home. Approx age age 800 years or older.
  19. Google wasn't much help for me either. I tried Turtle door knob and came up blank on that too.
  20. 2 tone since I pretty much dig all non-ferrous and tracking GB to keep things smooth.
  21. When I first started using the 800 I stuck with Park 2 almost exclusively but found that in a couple lakes it wasn't optimal. At one sandbar in particular it sees the ripples in the sand as a target with constant low signals that don't balance or track out. This is not unusual as other VLF's I have used do the same. In another instance at one lake constant ones report for some reason. Lately I have switched to field 1 to try and eliminate at least some of the tiny targets the Nox sees. While it still hits on targets that are hard to keep in the scoop I found that it runs very quiet and smooth in that mode. While at the sand bar yesterday I was able to run sens at max with absolutely no response to the sand and with extreme depth on non-ferrous targets in the mid-conductor range. Another benefit is that the edge sensitivity of the coil seems to increase exponentially with the higher gain settings, great for hitting the recent drops while covering an area at a faster clip. After my first couple water hunts I wasn't sure I could get used to the resistance of the 11" coil. While it's still a bit of a bugger, I spent 4 solid hours swinging it in the water yesterday and my arm/shoulder don't feel bad at all. Not sure long term how I'll hold up to it. Minelab we really need a 9" slim line coil like the X-Terra's for water hunting.
