  1. I like the iron audio to be in the background, just loud enough to come thru clearly.  Kinda like you would set a threshold level.  Can't give an exact setting because it will depend on you hearing and the headphones used.   Depending on the phones I'm using at the time it may be 1 or as high as 4.

That flour token looks like an unusual find.  Too bad the V-nickel wasn't 1 or 2 years older, but still a nice recovery.  Was it in that good of condition when you found it or have you had to work on it with steel wool, etc.?

You guys have been getting hit pretty hard with the thunderstorms.  Hope there are still a couple months of nice weather before it snows....

The Nickel is just how it came out of the ground, spit cleaned only.  Mom nature certainly has been making up for our hot and dry summer lately.  Got another round of storms coming tomorrow but should settle down after that.  Our sandy soil drains fast so not much problem with flooding.  There are quite a few trees down in the area.  Had to walk around a few going in that were not there last fall.

  3. Okay got the Pelso's today and while not as loud as the Hungarian phones that I have been using there is still plenty of room left to go much higher than I will ever use.  I set the Hungarians at tone vol 10 with master volume set at 4.   With the Kellyco phones,  tone vol is at 25 with master volume at 18 for the same sound level which leaves plenty of adjustment to to go higher than just about anyone would ever need.

Cord is heavy duty and taller guys especially will appreciate the extra length.

Noise isolation I haven't really tested yet but seems about the same as the Hungarians after the mod I made adding insulation inside the cups.

Have to agree with Daniel on the quality. They get a thumbs up from me.

There has been a huge surge in people using their smart phones as Db readers for headphone volume. I may be to blame for that since I was one of the first to start it for volume comparisons and now it seems as if everyone is doing it and getting different numbers.  I think two of the big probles are the downloadable Apps are different and the phones are diff too.  I can download two or three Db apps and get quite a spread between each program.  One might peak a target at 50 and another app peak the same target at 75.  Then there's also differences in phone microphones, etc.  Some have calibration offsets and some do not.  One App I downloaded was already reading steady 15-20 Db readings by doing nothing and was giving the loudest/highest readings of all the apps.  I assume it was adding the 15-20 to whatever reading I was actually getting.

I have not tried the apps, using my sound level meter (radio shack) with a nickel as the target I get 54db on the non piezo Hungarian phones.  Sens 20 volume 4, 2 tone vol 10 and pitch 20.

  5. Quite a difference thanks for the vid.  I have the LS Pelso on the way for my Nox.  I'm currently using the Hungarian version which look identical except for the cable. they are snug and fit on rather than over the ear which causes some discomfort ( have to keep re-adjusting them to relieve pressure).  Not sure if these will alleviate that since the cups look the same.

For this reason the Nexus Standard MP is not designed to exhibit high sensitivity in air, because every result in air is guaranteed to be at least the same in ground if not better

Sounds like the double speak you read in Ads for a Long Range Locating device.

I heard TomCa is testing one ?

Tom, good to see you putting in the hours and being rewarded with the finds. Hope to be doing some water work myself soon.

Thanks Steve,   I've been in a bit of a slump lately but that comes with the territory.  Still hitting it hard and regular.

    "Today's the day" I hope!

  8. I mostly dig the iron foolers unless they are large or deep (with a fainter dragged out tone) then I pass.

It doesn't matter to me if negative numbers show, that is if I am actually watching the meter during the process,  or there are iron tones mixed in I dig based on consistency of tone when the target is well centered under the coil.

Like TNSS said it's also my experience that deeper targets can have faint iron sounds mixed in but still give a consistent overall tone and TID reading at some point in off angles of approach when centered.  As he said it could be the ground itself or migrated iron from well rotted iron objects causing this.

If approached with good coil control the Nox is very consistent on borderline targets. In fact, the word "iffy" almost doesn't apply with the NOX.
