  1. As max depth is not the priority in iron sites, I usually start with sensitivity set at 18 and adjust from there. Good coil control is also a must, smooth steady sweeps at a controlled height will go far in eliminating false signals on iron. AND as Chase said, use the all metal horseshoe button to hear the iron grunts.
  2. Hi Randy I have not made use of accept/reject so I had to give the manual a once over and what first popped in my head was confirmed there. You cannot accept a rejected target while in detect mode it needs to be done in the accept/reject settings mode. Knowing the ID numbers of the wanted coins before hand you can then setup up your discrimination program. Switch to all metal to bypass your rejected screen and note the number of the coins. Then go to Accept/reject in settings and using the +/- buttons navigate to the wanted numbers and hit the button to notch them back in. Tom
  3. All is not lost, I was finally able to remove the speakers from the headset using a narrow blade knife. So off to the store I went to purchase a pair of self adhesive felt furniture pads (3-1/2 x 4") which were then cut and notched to fit the speaker housings, carefully minding the wires the pads were placed in the housings. At the store I had also purchased a tube of mold and mildew preventative Kitchen & Bath caulk which was generously smeared over the felt. Popped in the speakers and done. Tested against the neighbors mower and seems to be a huge improvement in sound reduction.
  4. Well after some use there is a problem with the Hungarians. , they are terrible at sound blocking. I used them yesterday at a popular spot and basically had to quit hunting whenever a boat or jet ski went past within 100 yds. Even moderate wind noise is close to intolerable. Could just be me and my hearing but they aren't working out for my use. In the other thread it was mentioned to take them apart to add insulation, but I can't seem to make that happen without risking damage,
  5. I just tried pulling them apart and it isn't happening I'm not going to attempt further risking damage. So the Koss phones are getting modified and if they work out I'll sell the Yellows.
  6. While I like the Hungarian yellows, I need something with more sound blocking. I don't dive and these have no sound blocking at all. In fact, they seem to amplify the noise from boats, jet skis and even the wind. I bought one of the adapters a while back and am seriously considering converting the Koss QZ-99's over.
  7. I decided to go with #4 .047 SS wire cloth with an opening size of 13/64" and cover about 1/3 of the bottom toward the front. I'll report on it in a few days after I get it back from the welding shop. Stainless mesh welded in place.
  8. Thanks for the review Steve. The Makro Gold Kruzer appears to be a VERY well thought out design.
  9. Holy Cats! still working on the announced coils? Oh well, at least we now know they want them to be the best they can be.
  10. Steve I attached mine with velcro and after water hunting with it on I'm glad I did it that way as it makes for increased drag and a harder to control coil. I took it off within minutes of getting in the water. For field hunting in taller grass it's a dream. Give it a try and see if you agree. Tom
  11. I'll have to give Field 1 more of a chance seeing as how it hit that small bit at sens 18. Congrats on the Hammy!
  12. No problem with the volume on these Steve. The cord seems short at first but in use it's not a problem. However, I do worry about the strain on the cable at the connector end over time. The pigtail is short which doesn't allow an easy way to secure it to the detector shaft to take that strain off. Will try making multiple wraps around the cable there with silicone tape so that the bend isn't so tight.
  13. Agree with Terry, most of the lakes here have sand bottoms that sift thru fast so 1/8" holes would be great.
  14. The fresh water lakes here are played out as our swim season is June thru August and they get hit hard. Found a beach last week where the sand moved out enough to reveal the older stuff. Scored a 1912 V Nickel at waist deep so I'm going back today with the WP headphones and hit the deeper areas.
  15. I looked at those but ended up getting the ones from Hungary due to the reviews. They cost more, $115.00 US shipped and came in 3 days via Fedex Int'l shipping. As a warning these are LOUD. I suggest turning the tones volumes to 1/2 of where you have them set and the overall volume down below 5 for the first try then adjust to suit. I have used them once and my only complaint is they are a bit tight. Left them stretched out overnite and they feel a little better.
  16. The quick turn around on these defective units shows good planning on ML's part by having the correct parts in place at time of release. Actually a much better experience that we have seen in the past from the manufacturers. Hopefully I will not experience any issues with mine, but if I do it is good to know that it will be handled promptly and efficiently.
  17. That's what I'm hoping for. I've always been able to locate the earring studs, foil, yes it floats away and small lead. These hits escape me!
  18. Steve I do have to know and I did not think to try your suggestion of dumping it on the beach until I got home. I will find out ne way or another. If it is rocks, I'll try to track them out or something.
  19. I hope when the word came out that they would be available in late spring that they were talking Our Spring not Oz spring. LOL Talked to my dealer this morning and he has received no word on the 6" yet but that he would get an email when they become available.
  20. In certain areas I'm getting definite hits reading 1 and some times 2 . At first I thought it has to be tiny split shot but now I'm not so sure. I now believe most of these are tiny hot rocks. Spit shot I can handle and ID by sight. I've dug plenty in my day and always managed to get them in the scoop. With these hits there is nothing except a scoop basket full of small gravels. In some areas I have resorted to notching out 1 or raising the iron segment to include it. Any thoughts?
  21. Thanks Mark, It's a start. Today I hit a different beach on the same lake and found another similar area where the sand had moved out. What use to be knee deep is now waist deep and deeper. Got home in time to sign for the WP headphones I ordered so will be back Tuesday to hit it hard!
