  1. The Equinox is not fast charge capable. As to whether it is safe to use this charger, I do not know if these fast chargers are backwards compatible with other devices.  My recommendation is therefore to stay away.

Anker, Ravpower and others rated at 2.4 A and 5V are the way to go.

  2. Hi Randy

I have not made use of accept/reject so I had to give the manual a once over and what first popped in my head was confirmed there.  You cannot accept a rejected target while in detect mode it needs to be done in the accept/reject settings mode. Knowing the ID numbers of the wanted coins before hand you can then setup up your discrimination program.

Switch to all metal to bypass your rejected screen and note the number of the coins. Then go to Accept/reject in settings and using the +/- buttons navigate to the wanted numbers and hit the button to notch them back in.

  3. All is not lost, I was finally able to remove the speakers from the headset using a narrow blade knife.

So off to the store I went to purchase a pair of self adhesive felt furniture pads (3-1/2 x 4") which were then cut and notched to fit the speaker housings,  carefully minding the wires the pads were placed in the housings.  At the store I had also purchased a tube of mold and mildew preventative Kitchen & Bath caulk which was generously smeared over the felt. Popped in the speakers and done.

Tested against the neighbors mower and seems to be a huge improvement in sound reduction.

Just double checking Tom - you are happy with these headphones overall? The Minelab units are getting multiple reports of being too quiet and they are trying to fix the same problem with the soon to be released Gray Ghosts - so the Hungarian headphones may be “it” right now.

Well after some use there is a problem with the Hungarians. , they are terrible at sound blocking.  I  used them yesterday at a popular spot and basically had to quit hunting whenever a boat or jet ski went past within 100 yds.  Even moderate wind noise is close to intolerable.  Could just be me and my hearing but they aren't working out for my use.

In the other thread it was mentioned to take them apart to add insulation, but I can't seem to make that happen without risking damage,

Don't use foam to insulate (unless closed cell) if you are using them underwater, you won't like the smell after a period of time. Applying silicon to the  inside of the ear cups will help and not stay wet when out of the water. Taping over the vent and drain holes helps some too, just remove the tape IF using them underwater.

I just tried pulling them apart and it isn't happening  I'm not going to attempt further risking damage.

So the Koss phones are getting modified and if they work out I'll sell the Yellows.

  6. While I like the Hungarian yellows, I need something with more sound blocking. I don't dive and these have no sound blocking at all.  In fact, they seem to amplify the noise from boats, jet skis and even the wind.  I bought one of the adapters a while back and am seriously considering converting the Koss QZ-99's over.

I have an 800 and primarily hunt for coins on land using 5 tones, and I consider the adjustable tone breaks to be one of the greatest features of the machine.  The Equinox is designed for the worldwide market and the default tones are essentially linear, in groups of 10 TIDs.  But each country's coinage is different so it makes total sense to adjust the tone breaks to reflect local conditions.  (Mine are currently set at 11, 13, 17 and 23)

Hey you stole my old coins settings. ?

I went out on a limb last week and sent Minelab service in OZ a quick email asking if they would ever be doing a solid elliptical coil like the GM1000 or even a solid skid plate for the Nox's existing coils and I got this response from them at midnight OZ time.  Pretty impressive really that they'd reply to an email at that time.

    Hi Simon

Thanks for your enquiry, our engineering team are still working on the 6” round and the 15X12” elliptical coils for the Equinox.
I have forwarded this to the engineering team but unfortunately as they are still working on the current coils that are yet to be released it will be some time before they even start to look at developing something like this.

So although a long way off, they seem open to the idea, it gives me hope ?

Holy Cats! still working on the announced coils?  Oh well, at least we now know they want them to be the best they can be.

  9. Steve

I attached mine with velcro and after water hunting with it on I'm glad I did it that way as it makes for increased drag and a harder to control coil.  I took it off within minutes of getting in the water.  For field hunting in taller grass it's a dream.

Give it a try and see if you agree.

I'm with Strict on this one, haven't touched half the features, but just from what I have used, I can tell it's a great machine with tons of potential, great depth, fast recovery, good unmasker, great in mineralized soil, with tons of additional features and settings for different types of ground.

Congrats on the baby girl Brian!!

No problem with the volume on these Steve.  The cord seems short at first but in use it's not a problem.  However, I do worry about the strain on the cable at the connector end over time.  The pigtail is short which doesn't allow an easy way to secure it to the detector shaft to take that strain off.   Will try making multiple wraps around the cable there with silicone tape so that the bend isn't so tight.

  12. The fresh water lakes here are played out as our swim season is June thru August and they get hit hard.  Found a beach last week where the sand moved out enough to reveal the older stuff.  Scored a 1912 V Nickel at waist deep so I'm going back today with the WP headphones and hit the deeper areas.

  13. I looked at those but ended up getting the ones from Hungary due to the reviews.  They cost more, $115.00 US shipped and came in 3 days via Fedex Int'l shipping.

As a warning these are LOUD.  I suggest turning the tones volumes to 1/2 of where you have them set and the overall volume down below 5 for the first try then adjust to suit. I have used them once and my only complaint is they are a bit tight.  Left them stretched out overnite and they feel a little better.

  14. The quick turn around on these defective units shows good planning on ML's part by having the correct parts in place at time of release.  Actually a much better experience that we have seen in the past from the manufacturers.

Hopefully I will not experience any issues with mine, but if I do it is good to know that it will be handled promptly and efficiently.

I can hit gold weighing under 1 grain (not gram - 480 grains per Troy ounce) with the 11" coil and the Equinox. Think flat gold the size of the ear on Roosevelt's head on a dime.

It is not impossible these are hot rock hits but that would be unusual. Coke though does hit in that range for sure so you never know. If it was me I would scoop and dump on beach, spread and detect until I was holding whatever it is in my hand. You simply have to know - are these hot rock hits.... or something else?

Steve I do have to know and I did not think to try your suggestion of dumping it on the beach until I got home.  I will find out ne way or another.  If it is rocks, I'll try to track them out or something.

  16. In certain areas I'm getting definite hits reading 1 and some times 2 . At first I thought it has to be tiny split shot but now I'm not so sure.  I now believe most of these are tiny hot rocks.  Spit shot I can handle and ID  by sight. I've dug plenty in my day and always managed to get them in the scoop. With these hits there is nothing except a scoop basket full of small gravels.  In some areas I have resorted to notching out 1 or raising the iron segment to include it.

    Any thoughts?
