How Minelab Designs Metal Detectors
tboykin replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Where's the part about massive layoffs? J/K, this is a solid vid. A little stiff but fits with their M.O., and cool to see what another company is doing. -
They "aye's" have it. I bought this and will be using it extensively over the weekend -

Reports On MX Sport Firmware Update - Post Here
tboykin replied to a topic in White's Metal Detectors
Thank you guys for your patience on this. I wish I could take the credit for helping Chuck out but the truth is Pam from production, Debbie in shipping, Todd in repairs, and even internet-famous Steve Howard all pitched in. Whatever image you have of White's, know that there are people here who care about this hobby. People that will sweat and bleed to go the extra mile for customers. I guess I'm one of them now. Never thought I'd end up in customer service but I gotta say I like it! Later this week I'm going on a prospecting/ghost town hunting trip for about a week down in Nevada. I should be back on the forum after the 1st or 2nd of June, and I'm hoping to have a nice video of the trip soon after that. -
That's the type of info I'm after, thanks Brian.

Chuck, we got your detector all patched up. I tested it in our notorious BLACK SAND pit to make sure it was running ok. It did fine on the 6" quarter which is tough due to the mineralization. I also did a quick air test in normal search and pinpoint- did good on a quarter out to just over 12". We're sending a "THANK YOU" when we ship it out tomorrow for your patience. -
Dang, that reminds me I need to eat some lunch.... Looks like a sweet stop.

Planning a pilgrimage and would like some suggestions on 'MUST SEE' stops along the way. I don't want you to blow up your secret spots or jump any claims, just want to hear opinions on any oddities or points of interest that may be off the beaten path (and not in this book - http://www.amazon.com/Nevada-Ghost-Towns-Mining-Camps/dp/0913814040). Hoping to make a good video of the trip, and of course find some funny yellow rocks when we're down there. But I always enjoy the drive more than the destination. Open to suggestions for side trips and pit stops anywhere from Bend to Lovelock.

There may have been some.... side effects.

I checked it before I jumped in. 42 degrees. Not sure what that is in celsius because we measure our temperature in FREEDOM units here.

Thanks. I'm the "media guy." Video, social, pictures (also heavy lifting, outreach, chainsaw work, some customer service, testing machines, jumping in lakes, and 4x4 shuttle services). It's got a lot of variety, even though technically it's marketing. I have a lot to learn but giving 100% is really all you have to do to go places in life. I think you guys will be happy with what we're planning in the future. Things are moving, there's a good flow of ideas. Change. Things are constantly changing and we're not fighting that - we're embracing it. It'll take a while for it to trickle down to you guys (the consumers). The MX Sport is just dipping our toe in the water. Wait till we jump in...

Appreciate your response Steve, you're a fair guy. The above quote is interesting for many reasons...

We have no plans to discontinue the MXT line in the near future.

We'll catch you at the jetty Steve, the boat hasn't even left the harbor yet. Sounds like White's disappointed ya. The V3i wasn't a smooth launch either, if memory serves. All I can say is things are improving here and we fix our problems on our dime. Makes it a lot easier to learn from a mistake when it hurt$. If we've lost you as a friend, know that it doesn't go both ways. I'd like to think that a long history of excellent customer service and commitment to the hobby can weather a few storms, but loyalty and legacy can only get us so far. Gotta stay sharp! Thanks for all the feedback guys, keep it coming. The MX Sport is a helluva detector thanks in part to members of this forum.

Agreed. The MX Sport vs MXT vs MX5 video was a customer request. The customer ain't always right but we try real hard to make them happy. I like the MXT's knobs and switches but have come to appreciate the MX Sport's "clean" interface and performance. I'm finding the more time I spend with the MXS the more I like it. I might even trade my V for a keeper, as the one I have now is semi-permanently "on loan" from engineering. But what I like isn't going to be what everyone else likes and I'm ok with that. IMO it's bad form for one company to put out comparison videos with other brands. We got burned on that before and it was a good lesson. My vote will always be leaving the comparison videos to the consumers. Though a video can never beat a hands-on comparison at a dealer to get a feel for a machine. We'll keep selling MXT's, they are like the A10 Warthog of metal detectors. The MX Sport is just the next generation. -

Thanks John, I appreciate that. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the MX Sport after the update. Thanks to you guys we got on top of the issue early and things have been solid for about a month now. Depending on which forum (and even which thread) you read, people will have various things to say about ANY detector. All I can go off of is my own experience and the feedback I get from customers. I have a pretty good feel for what's out there. BUT, I also know that the first thing some people do when they're unhappy is take to the internet to voice their concerns. Then people jump on that (it's called "concern trolling" on some boards) and you end up with a large amount of negativity in one thread or one board. I feel like DP is pretty balanced in this regard. From what I've seen and heard, the silent majority are outside, detecting with their machine and enjoying the hobby. They share their finds, and share what they like about the MX Sport, etc... This kind of input is awesome, but doesn't help us make a better detector (except to know what to continue doing). So I appreciate negative input as much, or even more than the positive. But it's important listen to both, and that's why I'm not too concerned about the MX Sport right now. Having said that - I'd still like to know what issues you have with it. -

I'm doing what I can to help Chuck and anyone else with a problem. So are other people at White's. I just wanted to share the improvements in the new firmware with the forum. Something positive. I think that's ok, though if it's against the rules I will remove my post. I can accept the fact that you don't like the MX Sport. But I like it, and so do others. That should be ok, too. -

Here is what you're in for when you get it back- Link deleted since Findmall Forum update broke all old links -
Chuck, we have a playlist on YT to help - Start up settings will vary depending on a bunch of factors. But these vids will give you an idea of what you're in for.

People are really enjoying the updated MX Sport - Links deleted since Findmall Forum update broke all old links The number one thing is our customers. Releasing a new product is always a big leap of faith, but White's listens to the people that support the company and will always make things right with them. There's nothing wrong with waiting to see how a product is received before buying it. Now it's out there, and we've adjusted the detector to initial reactions from users. The big issue now is building enough to catch up with orders. We're almost there....

Thanks Rick. You ever get up the Calapooia prospecting? Looking for some good spots to test a particular machine that's closer than Eastern Oregon/Nevada.
