I see you have a concentric coil on the MX 7. You have other coils for the MX Sport will this hold true for the MX 7 ? I think I have all you put out for the Sport and I went back to get the 7 inch after market coil White's sell.

I say you when referencing to White's but when I talk with you ,you are White's. Glad to have you on here being you've always been so helpful when the need arise.

    Chuck

PS Tom thanks for the video

Hey Chuck, all of the Sport coils are compatible with this model. Thanks for the kind words and for being so patient with White's, we are lucky to have you as a customer!

    hello fellow detectorist out there,

Hi from a land far far away, my maxy have problem which when i turn it off , i cant turn it back on. The only way to get it to turn on is to pull out the battery altogether. Even when its on, it will turn off randomly. The way its shut down is like something pressed the on/off button ( what im trying to say is its turn off randomly with beeps like proper shutdown. Sorry cant describe it properly since english is not native. )  I have already done the factory reset and change new batteries, but the problem are still there.

Is there any way i can rectify this problem on my own, if possible. Sending back to Whites will cost me money ( which i can add a little bit more money  and buy new coil ?)  and time.
Thank you for your time and suggestion. Below is the findings for an hour of detecting before the problem arise ??

Really enjoyed the videos Tom.....thanks! Hey, did you ever have that slug from your Idaho hunt tested? Brass vs gold vs copper vs slag?

Haven't had the time but I found gold up in the Sierras with my GMT on a business trip. It was me, an SDC, and a GM1k. GMT kept up with both of em.

Still have the mystery slugs on my desk. When work slows down I will take them to coin shop. Until then they will remain shiny lumps of some kind of alloy to me.

At last I can say YES - I can find gold with a metal detector... Took long enough!

  4. One of our dealers sent me this email today. NO I don't know the guy's name and YES if I find out who it is you can be damn sure I will try and get permission to go detecting with him next time:

"My customer, (who would like to remain anonymous) a Southern Oregon Gold Dredger that loves to be out in our mountains all year round. He spends his summer weekends in the water with his dredge. A few years ago, he decided to try his hand at Metal Detecting the ground his has been traipsing over for 25 or 30 years. We discuss his options. He has had an MXT for years, but for Placer Gold it just wasn’t going to avoid the hot rocks and cover the tuff ground that he wants to look in. I sent him out with my demo GMT and my personal TDI SL. Clearly the TDI SL was the right choice for his highly mineralized ground. So the machine was decided. He also wanted the right coil for HIS ground. He works a lot of shallow bedrock, also right on the edge of the creek and up the bank often following bedrock. He decided on the SMALLEST folded mono coil we could find with the elliptical shape. His terrain is tuff, rocks and trees in all the right places / wrong places, depending on if something is found.

    Fast Forward 2 Years:
He has had a very exciting year. Finding the smallest picker first and getting bigger each time.
He has purchased a second coil to cover more ground and get the optimal depth.
We have also just finished our research for an increased voltage battery for the best performance and longer run time on the bigger coil.

Thank you for all your support
Please enjoy the pictures of your successful product!"

    Short update is in order:

Careful study has indicated the depth of the 8 x 14 coil and the 7 1/2" dual field coil is about identical.  As stated above the coverage and pinpoint of targets is excellent.  But I caught myself swinging to fast not a good thing in bad ground.  Even though the larger coil gives better coverage I tend to prefer the smaller coil.  I can understand how a hunter can get in trouble with multiple targets under the coil at the same time.  I had this happen several times and can say it was a challenge to say the least.

But I've wanted a true mono coil for several years and couldn't pass up the White's garage sale.  I often wonder if either the OZ 7 1/2 or 12" would be more to my liking.

From my own testing mono coils on the TDI tend to be more sensitive to smaller pieces. They can also be a little more finicky to ground balance due to the sensitivity. But a small mono is hard to beat in trashy areas or around large rocks and brush.

Glad you were able to get in on the garage sale, it was a big hit this year and I hope we will do it again next September.

  6. 85 tokens out of 100 were found in the adult hunt. Kids hunt was a great success. Lots of detectors given away. If you missed out this year there is always next.

I prefer solitude when detecting but as far as group hunts go the Nugget Shoot is a good one. Free, nearby camping and goldfields. Plus nearby ghost towns. Tough to beat that combination out west. At any rate it beats the heck out of staying home all weekend.

I also agree - Tom is a class act. So Tom, since it was there, any photos anywhere? If it's all about made in America how about you show us Americans instead of the bloody Brits! Spill it man.....

If there was a new White's machine at Detectival it was only there for verification of performance on ancient coins and relics in that particular ground. And if said machine happened to be photographed on our Facebook page it was only to share the history recovered by our field team member. Furthermore it would be foolish to post a link to any of those photos.

Working at White's has been a great learning experience for me... One thing I learned from the MX Sport/AT MAXXXX - never announce a product until it is ready to sell.

The temps sure are on a steep downward trend - got a might bit chilly last night! Currently calling for mid-sixties and lows around 40 on the 23rd. Still a week away though and they really have no idea around here what is going on a week out. Be prepared for the possibility of near freezing temps overnight however so pack your woolies.

I know last year was a huge event but the buzz seems a lot quieter this year.....

I'll be there. Planning to explore some ghost towns on the way dow with my buddy Tim.

Always have a Hi Lift and traction mats in the rig... A little rain can make getting there a lot more fun. Throw it in 4LO and put the hammer down!

Here is the video I shot last year -
