  1. All good this end Fred. All's fair in love and war. I will definitely be taking MY zed back to the beach . Had a great time with it,. thanks for tip walking to the water and away Steve that made the machine a lot quieter. could only run in severe near the water but was able to run in difficult approx 5 meters from the waters edge and sensitivity on 15.There was other detectors there and when I turned up with the zed they were very interested and surprised to see how it went. I asked one fellow where he had detected, so I went back over his ground and got a signal ever metre or so. he couldn't keep his eyes off me wondering what he had missed. I Got approx 50 coins, keys, 3 ring pulls (not sure what sum of the coins are due to the staining and build of growth on them ). minimal rubbish. Dug sum deep wide holes ( pinpointing with the zed was a bit difficult ) will post a few photos when ive got a tally and know what the coins are Cheers ozgold
  2. Here is a picture of a recent find in the gold fields and the Australian $1 and $2 coins with pictures stamped on them FYI the $2 coin is only 3/4 of an inch in diameter, heavy and is easily lost cheers ozgold
  3. Thanks Paul for your encouragement. The Zed is just sitting in my bedroom hounding me to take it out on another mission. so I will take it out and give it a go when the swell drops off a bit more. in about 4-5 days time I'm quietly confident there's going to be lots of trash on our beach here in Oz as well. Our local council here still don't think its necessary to have rubbish bins ON the beach so the rubbish just gets buried in the sand (sad there's still people like that) I've got a 3030 as well Terry that would convince them to put there rubbish in the bin but its not the same as yours. LOL That's interesting you say that Terry as I was all but convinced I had the discrimination mastered on the Zed until I decided to leave a steel sounding target in the ground. I thought about it all that night so I went back the next day and dug down and it was a 5 gram yellow rock. so I have decided from then on I will still dig EVERY target Thanks for your input Steve there's not much beach left to choose the direction to walk but will give all directions a go. I am pretty sure I am going to use totally opposite setting to the gold fields I will be taking my kids along and my dog to help dig the huge holes I am expecting .My daughters will make good use of the extra bobby pins for their hair. LOL Cheers ozgold
  4. The only detector I've used is a GPZ 7000 chasing gold in the gold fields far from the coast with great success. Very recently we have experienced sum huge swells hitting the east coast of Oz, taking thousands of tons of sand away and possibly exposing sum lost treasures. It got me thinking can you kill two birds with one stone? Would there be any problems with using the Zed on the beach ? Is it overkill ? Should I buy a machine suitable just for detecting on the beach ? I know I would be digging big holes and every target because it doesn't have discrimination like sum of the other machines (its the thrill of the chase & the unknown that gets me buzzing) Any input you guys can give would be great !! Cheers ozgold
  5. Hi Hawkeye Ive just come back from a 3 week detecting trip here in oz and was using normal and difficult ground type setting in very mineralised ground. Lots of hot rocks burnt out tree roots and stumps. When I find I signal with normal I would change to difficult to see if I could hear it in that mode.If no signal I would change back to normal and scratch the first 10-20mm of dirt, rocks or sticks from the surface and then try difficult again. If I then herd the faintest of signals I would scratch more material from the hole and check if the signal got louder I would then be pretty sure it wasn't ground noise and then commit to digging the target this method has been tried many times on signals that are iffy in normal. With sum good results. Most faint signals herd in difficult AFTER 10-20mm was removed resulted in a target be it gold or metal. There was also still sum ground noise and carbon holes dug which gave a good target signal in difficult Normal setting is very busy and takes a lot of concentration. I have changed back to difficult to give my ears a rest and keep my sanity on many occasions and havel picked up a few bigger nuggets due to the more precise change in the threshold noise when in difficult I change to normal to difficult and severe on every signal,as I'm always experimenting with the machine cheers ozgold
  6. Hi 1515Art Just got reconfirmed again from my detector shop in oz yesterday that their will be a discount on the bigger coil to anyone who purchased the 7000 at the old top price. Hope it comes true Bit worried about what the actual 19 inch is going cost because to buy the 14 inch that's on the machine now is $1200 aus. My estimated cost would be round $1500- $1800. Don't forget the cost it will have on your body physically, if its heavier Cheers ozgold
  7. I wonder if this post will dry up quite quickly when the discrimination coil come out for the 7000 and everyone is just digging up nuggets. then there would be no ratio. Not sure if I could walk away form a positive target signal in the ground. so I recon I will just still dig everything. My ratio is approx 25-1 ozgold
  8. Over here in OZ our new price for the 7000 is officially $9499.00. I have been told that the people who paid the higher price will receive a cheaper buy price of the new coil when it comes out soon to keep them happy. Therefore the people buying at the lower price will pay full price to keep everyone on a level playing field. Ozgold
  9. Thanks for your feedback Tortuga I recon a few buried targets in dry ground then soaking them could get a change in signal strength and of GB therefore giving a result. I will also try and find a natural target signal in the bush and then give it a soaking to find any change. I will let you know the results I haven't detected in water before and I am a bit hesitant to submerge my coil if fear of water entry. Can someone in the US buy me a ticket in Powerball
  10. I'm pretty new at chasing the yellow stuff with approx. 200hrs gpz use under my belt & reading detector prospector forum with much interest & learning lots. Thank you all !! I have been detecting a patch over the past month getting 1 & 2 gramers here & there, unfortunately at the moment due to work commitments i can only detect during the day. Using the zed factory pre-set setting and adjusting the sensitivity, ground type & audio smoothing on or off, was wondering if someone could help answer these questions. Does the temperature of the ground influence the clarity & or the signal strength ? If i come back in winter when the ground is colder will the ground noise be less ?. How about freshly rain soaked ground !! does that make a difference to GN or signal strength. Cheers ozgold
