Your saga sounds a lot like mine except that most of my hunting is done on dry land where the Legend mostly functioned well. I got mine on March 20, 2022. It had mammoth update issues and it had a faulty system control unit which made updating it even harder. I also waited patiently for version 1.09 and the adjustable iron bias feature so that I could use my Legend for gold prospecting. About the time that version 1.09 was released in July of 2022 I had a serious ankle injury that required surgery and several months of recovery so I didn't get to properly test it until the spring of 2023 and then version 1.11 was released.

I have stuck with the Legend because it had proven to be an excellent land unit for coin, jewelry and relic hunting. It obviously had issues at some saltwater beaches and until version 1.09, it was pretty useless for gold prospecting unless I just used 40 kHz single frequency and avoided using the Multi setting in prospecting mode due to the iron bias being stuck on setting 8.

So, I totally get your perspective and your decision to move on from the Legend since in my opinion the weakest part of the Legend's detecting abilities out of the box and up until version 1.09 was saltwater detecting.

This is also why I have waited to write a reasonable review of the Legend until now since Nokta have corrected some deficiencies and added some features that make it a much more well rounded and versatile detector than it was at its release.

I am still waiting for XP to do the same for Deus 2 (been waiting for 19 months) and then there is the Equinox 700/900 about which my lips are sealed.

I am glad the X-Terra Pro is working well for you and your hunting/diving conditions in saltwater...

Exact. I think the launch on Christmas 21 was premature (I suppose to stop the bleeding of Nox sales). And the first units arrived with a very green software still...

At no time have I said that it is a bad detector, I simply lost confidence in it.

And for diving that is vital. Keep in mind that I have to take a breath, lower, locate and extract in 2-minute intervals. I snorkel, and without an exact and quick location I can't do anything.

That photo is 4 hours of water hunt. Under a platform with slides for children. They are paid (some coins fall out) and the mothers go for the children at 1 hour intervals. That if they are between 3-5 meters deep.

Location, I won't tire of saying it.

    And trust...

The Legend was released in December of 2021 so it has been for sale for 1.5 years. This is the second summer for northern hemisphere users. Maybe you are in the southern hemisphere?

The Legend I own did not perform very well on the saltwater beaches I sometimes hunt on until software version 1.09.

I have not had any issues finding gold jewelry, small gold nuggets or any low conductors like small lead or small brass targets no matter what mode I’m using except for Park and Field M3 which I rarely use.  In fact, the first target I found with the Legend was a 10k opened hoop earring that was surrounded by safety pins. Plenty of gold targets have followed.

Correct, I live in Spain and I reserved mine in December 2022. WHP version. I do not arrive until 03/27/2022 (first units in Europe). It brought version 1.04 and a luxurious instruction manual.

I had an Anfibio Multi and I was very excited. In dry sand it defended itself but when it touched the water that was impossible.Threshold doesn't work...

Updating the device was an odyssey at the beginning and the following versions improved the device a bit. v1.08 wasn't bad at all. Couldn't even do a factory reset, and M3 didn't exist.

It was with v1.09 when it finally started working. My patience was beginning to wear thin and every day I went out less and less to dive. It's very frustrating to keep hearing false signals when you're down there... And little or no gold came out. The v1.10 demo was the big change for me. It finally worked, and it had Threshold !!! But the gold still didn't come out...

And this spring the XT Pro arrived and the rest you already know...

That is the last photo I have of the ad I put up for sale. It was 30 days and 12 hours. No more Nokta, thank you.

It is my humble opinion based on my own experience and usage.

  3. I had a Legend for a couple of years and it's one of the few times I don't agree with Jeff...

For the beach, it is not so good. And Nox, in saline environments, is clearly lagging behind.

MD in dry sand is not bad but MW only serves to get Silver. I think they are too high frequency weighted and max filtered to match the stability of Nox.

You simply can't find Gold. Or at most any rings on the surface. Try to put a Gold wedding band a couple of inches into the Wet Sand and tell me... you'll just walk over it with that typical Nokta chatter and you can hear It !!

I dedicated a couple of summers to it, about 600 hours, and I gave up. I no longer have it and my Nox 800 is still there at home, since 2019.

The shaft is short and flexes. Carbon quality is relative. Mine turned whitish with the salt and I wash the equipment at every outing. The quality of the protective plastic of the coil is from China and access to different menus at night is impossible...

The charging system is a pleasure and the quality of the speaker impressive!...😎

Try to sell a second hand, the market will put you in your place.

No, it's not a Nox and it doesn't even look like it.

    That is just my opinion...

  4. Congratulations, what a joy your persistence must have given you.

It costs me more than two hours, I can continue for a while longer but I'm already out of concentration and the results drop drastically.

That high ID for the large gold ring is because of the combined metal that has been used. If it is yellow gold it will take a lot of silver, if it is pink copper; and palladium or nickel for white gold. Size and weight also matter.

    It's a nice piece!

I see that it is common in the UK. In Spain you don't see much, I usually get 14-18k.

    Come south...

    😁

  5. Last night I went out for a drive with my old Nox 800. It had been in the garage for about three months...

It's like meeting an old girlfriend with whom you spent many harass. And where there was fire...

I feel it as part of me. It takes its time to turn on and there it was:

    BEACH 2, 2 Tones...

That photo is from December 15, 2019. I was wading in the middle of winter and suddenly a 50 cm. step throughout the coastline. Strong waves and few forces. It was 20 minutes of glory!

All the targets online, the Nox did not stop ringing. It was our first time. We had been together for a year and a half and I still remember it. We had grown up together...

How important it is to know and understand your detector well.

It took me about 600 hours. With the XT Pro about 200h. have been enough...

    A great machine.

  6. The audio from this detector is incredible!!.

One of the most hateful things are false signals. And more if you are diving.

All the detectors I have had (including the Nox 800) distort more or less, but those weak signals simply disappear. With the X Terra Pro that problem is over. If it sounds, there is something under the coil, yes or yes.

That ancient coin was deep, very, very deep. There was no target ID but it sounded weak down there.

With the chains, or pieces of them, the same. Weak sound but there they are.

I think we're going to have a good summer this year.

    And  likes Gold!...

  7. One of the best I've used: those that have tropezoidal speakers.

In Europe LS PELSO (manufactured in Hungary).

For the American DETECT-ED market, they are the same with the highest quality cable and plug.

Takes a bit of getting used to, tinny audio, reminiscent of old 80's video games.

The best audio without a doubt, that I have tried for diving and it is not necessary to use the maximum volume.

And I've tried quite a few...

  8. Good choice, Adam.

    And excellent price!.

    In Europe, a Nox 700 costs €899.

    Open box costs €650 aprox.

From my point of view, one of the best choices for an experienced Beach Hunter. And more coming from a 600...It's finally waterproof!!!

I also hit the beach search and have owned a Legend. I did not want to intervene because my opinion could condition you.  Two summers, about 500h. I mainly use diving, my Nox 800 is older, and some surfing. Well with Silver, that's the best I can say...The day I sold it brings me great joy. I don't miss it at all...

In Europe €500, open box €400

    You'll tell us...

I think 25% of sensitivity is too low, and I wouldn't run that low, but running the Manticore at 16 out of 35 gives great depth I think Equal to the Equinox, and very stable operation.

...That seems more reasonable to me. 25% seemed little to me.

I also share the idea of maximum sensitivity and total stability for a machine of relative quality.

I think you have to give the new update a little more time to see results.

I'll keep an eye on the thread, it's interesting...

No issues with the update or Manticore...Most times now I run it like I ran my Nox.  Around 25% power.

    ...Same detection abilities,  less falsing.

This does not match the Minelab website:

    Manticore

"More Power, More Depth, More Finds"...

If you have to reduce the sensitivity to 25% in order to work, you are missing targets.

    🫣

    Something is wrong...

  11. The demand is such that I have not seen a single unit on the beach so far this year...🤔

There is stock in the distributors and I have already seen a couple of open boxes for around 1,400-1,500€.

Here, in Europe, its price is 2,000€.

I have not seen a single Nox 700 either, and the two 900s I know of, one (more of a novice) is delighted. He, another, more veteran, doesn't like it...

According to his words, too much "sensitivity"...

The 10' and 8' coils are also not available for the X Terra. Maybe they thought that this summer I won't go diving...

They lose the sale of a coil, it doesn't matter.

Today buying ML 85 headphones is impossible. I don't understand...

  12. Air test or backyard testing is just that, testing. Reality then may not fit...

In a couple of months, seven Gold pieces have come out and I am close to obtaining my first Ounce. It works with gold!...

In Spain the X Terra Pro is sold out and some distributors have already raised the price to 360 €.

Supply and demand, the market sets the standards when something works. And at a laughing price...

Congratulations on your new X pro, you'll see how you'll like it.

In trashy areas it's difficult to make an SF work properly and even less with that "huge" elliptical coil that it brings inherited from the Vanquish series. Let's be realistic.

On the beach, the effect is quite the opposite and the depth is excellent.

Being the most sensitive part where you see the ring in the photo. I like that target proximity effect with rising audio. It allows a precise and fast location.

Getting an ID as stable as with the compressed scale above I think is going to be difficult...

In my case, and for the search for gold on the beach; it is a success. Just moving the pulltabs towards 31 is a breather. I ended up sick and a little tired of digging 11-13 in the Nox.

It improves somewhat with the original 11' coil and in my case with the 15' Coiltek. Keep in mind that those coils cost pretty much the same as the X pro.

I would like to try the 10x7 from the Vanquish series, will it work?...

    IMG_20230610_062757.jpg

  14. ...I delivered the sign for the new Manticore last December. Here in Europe, the reserve was €200.

In January they gave me long. In February I apologize and in March the X Terra Pro arrived by surprise and before my desire to cancel the order. I don't think they have won the same in my case, and surely it will not be the only one.

In my company, if a customer leaves a sign, we go out of our way to serve the product... fast!!!

But no wonder, it's what they've been doing for a long time.

I liked the ones made in Ireland, not Malaysia.

I will not buy Manticore for now, or at least, not in this exercise.

Are we talking about business objectives?...

  15. ...I had not seen this thread.

Minelab has hit the table with the X Terra Pro. There is no arguing.

I have used an Anfibio Multi for two summers (600 h.). I fired the Legend with a month of use according to the clock (about 700 hours) and now X Terra Pro. I'm on my way to 200 h.

The use has been exclusively on the beach and the locations are the same...

The X Terra Pro has already got more Gold than the other two machines combined. That is a fact.

It is true that the years have passed, I have been learning, some other unit has passed fleetingly and I have also owned a Nox 800 since 2019 (probably with more than 2000h). The factory battery lasts me less than 4 hours...Comparing an Anfibio Multi or a Legend with the X Terra when diving is simply impossible. There is no color...

They are all great machines and I have been in love with all of them. And now to my age and arriving as a resignation to a pre-order of a Manticore this young lady came into my life.

    Life gives many surprises...

@StarVatrex , you're on fire. That ring is awesome,  very pretty,  and with a big story behind. You live in a blessed place, Mediterranean sea is blessed

I live close to the beach and at the tip of a cape. If I don't have air on one side, I have it on the other...

If you really want to get Gold, it is the first thing you must learn, winds and tides...

You can already have the detector that you want, but you dominate when the beach washes the sand; you won't be deep enough.

And Gold is buried as it falls.

You can get more Gold in one night than in a whole month without knowing where to look.

    Location is vital...

Finally, it's 14k Rose Gold (585) and weighed 2.58 grams.

I'm sure that this year you're going to double the number of pieces compared to last year, you'll see.

Well done on the ring. I think that was there a while. The join has corroded away. I wonder if its a diamond? Anymore than 10k it should be.

    Many thanks Nuke em.

Yes, that one had been going around the sea for a while. It does not have any mark and it gives me a very low ID (11-12) for the weight, but the color tells me that it is high carat. The stone looks good...

Yesterday the wind changed to the west. This morning 4 rings. I have caught a good cut...

The small one is Gold (it's marked), two bigs with stones are silver and the last one is steel.

Very happy with the X Terra Pro.

In Spain, a lot of gold is sold with the crisis and unfortunately that is what it is.  More costume jewelry than authentic.  Silver wedding bands are even being seen

True, and there are fewer coins and more garbage. But I don't think it's a problem only in Spain.

Let's use our detectors and their depth to go back a couple of decades...

Last night I decided to go to a small cove with difficult access. It is visited by local people and tourism that accesses by private boat. Gold had already come out there and these last winds have moved the entire seabed. I put on the neoprene and into the water!

Very few objectives, not a single euro coin. Some old iron and aluminum and when passing some rocks, in a patch of no more than two square meters, old peseta coins began to come out...

That tool that I think is from a ship and Bang! Another old Gold ring. 5,74 gr. and I have to review that stone more carefully.

It sounded bad and little, but it sounded...

At first there was no ID, but it sounded weak in the background, one more Scoop...jumpy ID 8-12 and grunts of iron. I have already taken some more with stones and edges and the sound is peculiar, they do not sound "round" like wedding bands.

I had been in the water for over an hour with hardly anything coming out. Returned home at 01:36 a.m.

    Open Mind...

    Thanks for your comments StarVatrex.

So, you were wading... I do dive detecting. I own the Seaghost 800 Nox, and I'm thinking also as a backup for diving... A lot of thoughts at the sime time 🤔😂

Yes, I was wading and chest-deep in water, last night I went out again...

I broke that old silver ring with the Scoop and was able to remove both parts, that says a lot about the detector.

Finally the Pinpointer function works! And that with an easterly wind and good waves to move slightly.

That FAKE Big Gold ring was very deep. He would swing negative to one side (-12 to -2) and positive to the other side (18-24). It took me a while to get it out...Remember that it's night and in the water. It has not passed the magnet test. It must be stainless steel with a bath... it hurts. But you have to get it out, it shone on the Scoop like it was good!

A step forward has clearly been made in the audio.

I'm starting to feel it as an extension of me. I'm liking the standard coil a lot, sensitive, deep and very precise.

I use the front part as if it were my fingers searching the sand.

The courtship has begun, I don't know how "the other" is going to handle it. It's been two months now without going out for a walk...

    Like a backup for diving...Yes!

@StarVatrex ,do you own an Equinox? If yes, how do you compare Xterra vs Equinox?

    Thanks for sharing your configs!

    Yes, I have a Nox 800 too.

Keep in mind that Nox came out in 2017. It's been about 6 years. Would you compare two mobile phones 6 years apart?...

It's much faster, more responsive, the audio is better, and now you have flashlight and vibration. The battery lasts twice as long and mechanically it turns a thousand times.

It's IP68 certified, hard to compare. Without forgetting that it's "only" SF...

They are different machines. As a backup of your Nox I do recommend it to take in the car. It's a winning bet!

I was out wading last night with the full Strawberry Moon. It's amazing, finish off with Vibrate ON, 5 Tones and Flashlight and Screen ON. All the fish playing around me. Incredible.

It was the night of Stainless Steel...

Around here, a fellow with Nox has already ordered another one as well.

  22. ...and Silver keeps coming out. That ring in a solid 58-62. I like it, and very clear tones.

I must have been around 150 hours now, it's addictive.

I give you a couple of configurations to work on the beach, always focused on the search for gold; that is what I like:

    - Dry sand,

PARK 2 -15kHz-, Automatic Ground Balance (no tracking), Sensitivity 14-16 (You do not need more, it is clear and higher up you will only get false signals), All metal ON, I have advanced the tone break by 1 point, so from an ID -4 I get a low and sweet tone, there is deep gold there. Threshold at 9, volume at 21, 5 tones and Recovery Speed at 2.

Over the years I have stopped working on dry sand a bit, I know it's a mistake, but I have more fun in the water...

    - Wet sand,

BEACH 1 -8kHz-, Manual Ground Balance to 0-6 (I like slightly positive), No tracking too, Sensitivity 18-20, All metal ON ( in this way I have advanced the tone break  1-2 clicks, so from an ID -4 or -8). It depends on how much you want that night to get deep iron, maybe gold!?... Threshold at 9-10, volume at 21-23 and Recovery Speed 2 and sometimes 1 (when I try to find a good patch slowly). The audio capabilities of this detector are incredible. I was impressed with dP but have gone back to 5 tones. I need the flutes for that deep gold.

With experience I have learned to listen to that deep iron. I reduce the speed to 1 and listen... If I like it I dig it!...from time to time...Bang! Gold!!!!

    - Diving and deep wading,

    It's real IP 68 (finally...).

    - BEACH 2 -8 kHz-, Automatic Ground Balance (with coil underwater), Tracking ON, Sensitivity 14 to Up as such as you can. I prefer clean tones at the cost of sacrificing depth, yes, but diving things change... All metal ON, audio VCO (dP) and Recovery Speed 1.

    I use waterproof DETECT-ED Headphones.

As a base in an easy saline soil it serves, from there with perseverance and a little luck the entertainment is assured!

I am already preparing the 5mm. neoprene to start diving first hour in the morning.

I have high hopes, in my case, on the beach; wonderfull.
