  1. Thanks from me as well Steve for your explanation and for the link to your archived gold mine of advice. I've found quite a bit of gold with the little 705, but Minelab, unlike other detector manufacturers, sometimes makes understanding things far more difficult than is necessary. In fact, it's almost like they're trying to reinvent how to say things, when they really shouldn't. Dave, all the best to you as you chase the gold with your 705 as it sure will do the job while you respect its limits, Lanny
  2. Great little video. Nicely done! The shots of the scenery are great, and the underwater shots are great too. All the best, Lanny
  3. A big hello to everyone. I've had a great season so far this year, and I've found lots of nice smaller nuggets, with the largest ones coming in around six grams, so nothing big, but a good collection this season with nice overall weight regardless. I'm curious as to what has happened with the reliability and product quality issues with the Gold Racer, as I haven't heard much lately. I'd love to hear an updated report from people that are actively using it to find nuggets. All the best, and thanks for your time, Lanny
  4. Nice and rough for sure! Looks fantastic. All the best, Lanny
  5. Hi there. So very sorry to hear about your demise. Injuries are no fun as I've found out. I'm almost healed from mine, but still some longer recovery time and physio to go to get back to normal, but I'm going out to take a peak at some bedrock this weekend (and do some "light" nugget shooting); however, I'm not sure how much time my body will give me yet. I guess I'll find out as I'm hitting the road to the mountains very early tomorrow morning . . . All the best to you, and I trust you'll heal properly, Lanny
  6. Thanks for the tips on disc. and for the explanation!

  10. Thanks for the story and the pictures, loved the post. By the way, is your Gold Racer your main go-to machine right now? If so, would you mind taking a minute to list your reasons? I might need buy another toy, and I'm looking for the proper motivation . . . All the best, Lanny
  11. Congratulations on your birthday golden finds, and the worm? An organic bonus with lots of possibilities . . . All the best, and thanks for the creative post set off by a bit O' the Irish Green, Lanny

  14. I've done the whitewater dredging thing, and I too have no desire to repeat it as no matter which type of mask you wear, seeing is not a viable option, nor is keeping the mask either on your face (or free from water) an alternative if you move your head the least bit wrong. As well, there's the constant plucking of untold legions of endless, icy water-powered fingers on everything . . . As for rappelling into crazy spots, done enough of that as well, fun, but in an emergency if you have to get out of spot like that, just as crazy. If I was in my early 20's and still full of vinegar and other natural stimulants and hormones, probably, as that's why I've tried some of the extreme things I have after all. But, the mileage on the frame is way too much, so someone will apply, and they'll have a grand adventure that I truly hope remains a safe adventure throughout. All the best, Lanny
  15. Nice catch of gold in the pan, and the hole you dug, incredible! Congratulations on finding and retrieving some of Mother Nature's finest. All the best, Lanny
  16. Fun read! Gave me flashbacks to Nome. Lots of problems that crew had to slug their way through, but the gold sure is beautiful. Thanks for the link, and all the best, Lanny
  17. Wow! Great story and photos. Thanks for taking the time to write it up and to post the pictures. Nicely done, and all the best, Lanny
  18. Fred, I really enjoyed the pictures. It brought back some memories from time I spent in the desert. I've also enjoyed all of the humor and good-natured ribbing it spawned. All the best, Lanny
  19. You've written some very apt responses to this thread Steve, thanks! From your no-nonsense approach to analyzing how detectors work and from your arms-length assessment of their capabilities, I've learned more from your evaluations of various detectors than any other material I've read anywhere else. Nicely done and thanks for the hours of extra time you dedicate to doing your write-ups and your research. All the best, Lanny
  20. It looks like you're wetting your rock samples. If it's gold, you won't need to wet the sample, you'll know right away. Plus, the suggestion to use a metal detector might save you a lot of time as well. I hope you figure it all out . . . All the best, Lanny
  21. That's a great little video of an exciting night hunt with some great finds! Thanks for posting the link, and all the best, Lanny

  23. Congratulations, and nicely done on some classic historical finds! All the best, Lanny
