  1. I took my 800 to a saltwater So Cal beach two weeks ago. Ran it in Beach 1 with the gain between 20-22 and it ran beautiful and quiet on both the wet and the dry sand. I was really impressed with how well it performed. In all my years of detecting the beach, I've never used any single frequency detector that goes as deep on the wet sand as the Makro Racers, Kruzer and Notka Impact, but my Nox outing to the beach yielded a few coins on the wet sand that I'm sure those detectors would not have hit.

  2. The MMK is a high gain detector much like the Racers and the Nokta Impact that came before it. 4 Tone can be very chattery when the gain is set high but I found that I almost never use the 4 tone mode.  The 2 tone, 3 tone, and deep modes cover all the detecting I do with the MMK. The only place that I sometimes run in 4 tone is while hunting soccer fields for fresh or recent drops. The 4 tone mode quiets right down wile swinging with the gain lowered. I run 4 tone with the gain between 25 - 50 in 19 kHz and it will still get coins, pendants, and small charms 4-5" deep. I like running 2 tone in the tot lots and sand volleyball courts, with the gain cranked up in 19 kHz to hit on the small gold and, i run 3 tone most everywhere else, like the general park and school areas. I also use 3 tone for ghost towns, railroad sidings, old homes, empty lots, and freshwater lakes.

I bought a Red Racer when they came out, then the Racer 2, then the Impact, and now the MMK. I sold the Impact after getting the MMK and haven't missed it one bit.  Between the MMK and the Nox 800 and one other, I've been able to sell off all my other detectors that I've kept for hunting specific sites. My MMK will be in my arsenal for a long time, I'm sure.

  3. I bought the Multi Kruzer but I could have been just as happy with the 14 kHz Kruzer. It's seldom that I ever switch off 14 kHz on mine. Total opposite from the Nox. With the Nox IMHO it's crazy not to go with the 800 over the 600. The 800 offers so many additional features. The Kruzer is an outstanding buy for it's features, function, and performance.

  4. For real trashy parks I use my Cherry Pickin program saved to my user slot. I started with Park 1, made the below changes and then saved it to my User Profile.

    Gain 22, Disc 9

    Tone Breaks 2/11/13/22

    Tones 1/6/20/15/25

    Notch 15-19 & 39-40

Of course you could miss some gold rings with this program but runs quiet and pulls the coins from among the trash. Eliminates most pull tabs and Nickles are higher tone and easy to pick out.

  5. I don't know what pin pointer you have but I use a Garrett Pro pointer and I've installed a mercury switch. My pro pointer is turned on once with the switch when I put it in my pouch. I keep it pointed up so the fat, heavy end is in the bottom of my pouch. This keeps it from falling out of the pouch and also allows the use of the mercury switch. When I retrieve the pin pointer from my pouch and turn it so its pointing down, the mercury switch is activated turning the pin pointer on. turn it up to put it away, it turns itself off.  This save a lot of wear and tear on the switch and also makes the battery last just about forever. The switches are available from Radio Shack or any other electronics supply. They only cost about a dollar or less and you only need some black electrical tape and some needle nose pliers  to bend the switch wires. Years ago there were diagrams on the forums on how to do the switch install. A little searching should show diagrams or pictures on how to do it.  Otherwise, I hunt just about like you when I'm clad stabbin' with a DFX and BigFoot coil.

  6. Decided to mod the 800 rod by switching out the straight middle rod to the White's S rod. I know a lot of folks like a straight rod but by switching it out, it eliminates the detector's handgrip from wanting to twist at the end of each swing. In a side by side comparison, both myself and a buddy with an 800 both like the feel of the modified version. The mod requires the middle rod from a White's DFX, or MXT. The rod needs to be drilled on the upper top end for the spring plunger and again adjustment holes need to be drilled on the bottom for length adjustment. The Lower rod from a Makro Racer or Kruzer is used as the lower rod from the Nox is larger in diameter. The top of the S rod also needs to be shimmed about .040" in diameter to fit snug into the Nox upper rod. Now it swings about as close to an F75 as you can get.

  7. Got out for about two hours (before the heat got to us) this morning and went to a dirt lot that we've hammered pretty good in the past. Used to be three homes there built in the thirties. Used Park 1 that I made a few adjustments to prior to going out. Changed the tone breaks to my liking and also the Tone pitches for each "bin".  When they tore the homes down, they moved the dirt quite a bit so clad can be found at the same depth as silver. Managed to pull out a couple of weaties and a 42 Merc. along with about 12 clad coins. My buddy using his 800 for the first time also pulled a wheatie and a 43 Merc.  Gotta say we were both impressed with the 800's performance for being the first time we've taken them out. Heading to Nevada week after next to hunt some ghost towns and hoping the weather is much cooler up there.

  8. Darn if the relatives didn't spend another night and prior commitments keep me busy tomorrow. Looks like Friday at the earliest other than trying my coin garden tomorrow for a few minutes.
