I Need Your Wisdom!
Tom Slick replied to Againstmywill's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I think its a red lens off a railroad lantern. I used to have a larger lantern than the one in the photo and it had larger lenses. -
I have to agree with Cal_Cobra. Send your Nox 800 to me so I can dispose of it for you. I've had a couple of Sovereign GT's over the years and I think you should stick with it. Great at the beach too. 😁

I've also fond iron wrap around and disc 39 - 40 on almost all my programs.

Where did it say five new detectors or machines? I only read five new products. Maybe a pin pointer, backpack, hat. vest, and dog whistle? I doubt we'll see five new "machines" by end of next year from the five leading detector manufactures all together, but I do like all the positive thinking. 😀

Breaking The Law (who's Next?)
Tom Slick replied to dogodog's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
I'm happy to hear you picked up the Anfibio coil for your MMK and that it's working well for you. It really is a great coil. -
Multi Kruzer Af-35 Coil Experiences ?
Tom Slick replied to dogodog's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
I found no difference in depth between the Multi Kruzer and the Anfibio Multi using the same coil. -
Multi Kruzer Af-35 Coil Experiences ?
Tom Slick replied to dogodog's topic in Nokta / Makro Metal Detectors
The AF28 coil which is the standard 11" round DD coil on the Anfibio will give you a couple more inches depth compared to the standard Mulit Kruzer 7" X 11" without adding the extra weight of the AF35 coil. I've had the Anfibio and still have the Multi Kruzer. I really liked the AF28 and will get one for my Kruzer one of these days. -
For maximum depth, I don't understand why folks don't bother to ground balance. It only takes a few extra seconds. I'm sure there areas where the soil doesn't require ground balancing to achieve good depth but the further away from 0 the ground balances at, the more important it is to do a G/B.

Why block 12,13,14. This is the nickel range and some really nice men's gold rings fall into those numbers.

Minelab Equinox Ground Balance Setting
Tom Slick replied to GB_Amateur's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
So quick and easy to do an Auto G/B that I almost always go that route. In over two years with the Nox I haven't found a need to use tracking but then again I haven't used it at the beach or Nugget hunting yet. -
Impulse AQ = Bipolar Technology ?
Tom Slick replied to JEKOS123's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
I'm working on my own Bi-Polar design. Yesterday was a good day with some great gains made, but today I just can't get motivated to do anything about it. -
Beautiful Silver coins! I wish my silver coins came out of the ground looking that good. Mine are usually black or black, but sometimes they're black.

Equinox Detecting In Pinpoint Mode
Tom Slick replied to Yellowstone's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I wonder how many Nox users haven't read or even downloaded the Manual. I know a few in a couple of clubs I belong too. I don't mind hunting behind them. 😁 -
Equinox And Acc. Charging During Winter Months
Tom Slick replied to Propjob's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
OK, I don't hunt a lot in the summer heat but at least I don't have to shovel it. 😁 -
Equinox And Acc. Charging During Winter Months
Tom Slick replied to Propjob's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
During the winter I charge mine before each detecting trip. I'll be charging mine today for tomorrows trip and again tomorrow night for Saturday's. I love Arizona winters. 😀 -
The amps should be about 2 amps at 5 Volts. I think the OP got his volts and Amps mixed up. I've been using a 2 Amp charger about four times a week now for two years without issue. Lower amp chargers just take longer. I personally wouldn't use any charger rated at more than 2 Amps just because my own experience tells me 2 amps is plenty. Mine is a three port with readout like the one Steve posted above.

It Doesn't Get Any Better...

Been looking since 1975 for my first gold coin. I've still got some years left in me so who knows. Your's is a fabulous find! Congratulations! -

Tom Slick replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
Thanks Steve for the link. Looks easy enough. Mine after almost two years still holds a charge like new. Or at least longer than I can detect.👍 -
CTX Built To Be Expensive?
Tom Slick replied to Tom Slick's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Me neither. 🙂 -
OK, so I attended a seeded hunt sponsored by Minelab just before the release of the CTX. Minelab held a marketing program where they introduced the CTX and touted all its attributes . When it was handed to me I thought "what a beast, what a pig. I don't need GPS, I'll buy my own GPS if I want one". Now I know its an excellent detector when it comes to finding certain stuff, in certain environments, so I'm not bashing its performance. Its the way its built that I think is ridicules. Every other detector has about the same size lower rod. They cost about $14 - $20. CTX close to $200. The Arm cuff must run about $50. Coils $295 & up. I've got to think Minelab worked really hard trying to figure out how to make it expensive. I'm sure glad they have finally seen the light with the Equinox. Anyone else think they over built the CTX just to make a bunch of extra bucks?

Fisher Impulse AQ In Production
Tom Slick replied to LE.JAG's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
Steve - You really think any of us are going to give you a year to try it out before you report back to us? Good chance you'll have the entire West Coast cleaned out by then. 😜
