  1. Good Amount, I can do that. I will send you a photo of the 9.5 DD coil that came stock with the detector. At the same time, I can do a measurement of the circumference of the coil. If I can find a 501-4136-2 cover all would be well, but the supply has dried up. One seller even told me to boil the cover and/or place it in the sun to soften it. There was NO way it would fit despite his suggestions. In the meantime I will cut a piece of plexiglass and tape it to the coil. Thank you for your suggestion. BTW, what is your opinion of purchasing a TDI SL instead of the BeachHunter TDI. I was told the BH has one fixed coil even though it is completely waterproof. The TDI SL is not waterproof, but can accept an array of coils. I don't see myself doing deep water detecting. Michael
  2. I have been a devoted fan of Whites since the 1970s. Can't recall the exact number of machines I owned, but each and every one was special and had their own speciality. Since Whites has shuttered their doors I am beginning to wonder if I should begin to let go of some of my high end detectors while they are still "young". I know Centreville Electronics in VA has a contract to continue to service White's detectors under warranty, but the clock is ticking. Old units are still serviced as long as parts are plentiful. On one hand, these machines don't see the wear and tear of most electronics so they are less likely to fail during normal daily use. However, technology becomes obsolete. It is also true no real eye popping breaktrhoughs in metal detecting have occurred in the last 20 years. Yes, the weight of detector has come down and the bells and whistles have proliferated, but a metal detector is still a metal detector and does what it has always done. The operator is the key to how well the machine performs. I an earlier post I lamented the fact that it is nearly impossible to find coil covers and some parts for existing Whites models. The above being said, when is it time to say "goodbye" to an ole friend?
  3. I have pounded the pavement looking for coil covers for my fleet of detectors. I recently upgraded my detectors but failed to take into consideration that Whites closed a few years ago. That would have been the perfect time to stock up. Does anyone know if any other detector manufacturer has coil covers that might fit some of Whites coils? Or can anyone think of a source overseas that might still have some old stock? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I am looking for: 12" Dual Field, MX Sport 10" 501-4142 10" DD 501-4145, 501-4136 6"x 10" 5011068 4" x 6" shooter DD, 501-4117 Coil Stabilizer 802-5190-4 Thank you!
  4. Thanks, Popeye! Is there any source that I can go to and find coil covers (skid plates) for my Whites detector coils? I noted one post that discussed 3D printing of a coil cover. Not sure if that is cost effective except for the person printing. Any sources in the states or overseas? Thank you
  5. I am looking at a TDI BeachHunter and a TDI SL. I have heard that the BeachHunter coil is not interchangeable, which means if I want to use it on land, I can’t change coils for different purposes. Then again, PI machines are not discriminators so using a smaller coil in trashy areas is a moot point. Am I correct? The BeachHunter is completely waterproof while the TDI SL is not. Most likely I won’t be submerging the detector more than a few inches. I can pick up a used TDI SL for about 800 whereas the BeachHunter is new and $1200. I guess I am answering my own questions..purchase the TDI SL use it at the beach at waters edge and on land. For water use Whites MX Sport, although it isn’t accurate in salt water? Your thoughts.
  6. I own two Whites V3i with the stock 9.5" or is it 10" DD coil. One machine is 2011 and I purchased a coil cover online that fit perfectly. I ordered a 2nd cover and no matter how I tried to place it on the coil it would not fit. I was told by the seller that machines 2017 and earlier would use a 501-4140 cover and later models 501-4145 cover. Needless to say, i returned the cover that did not fit and ordered another and the cover did not fit. Did anyone have this same experience with the V3i stock DD coils. Seller added that the covers will only fit the coils with the gold lettering??? Anyone have a solution for my coil cover delimma? I wll pay for for 3D printed copies so I can cover my coils.
  7. I have been lurking for a short time and I must admit I am impressed by the knowledge and civility of the majority of posters. Some sites seem to have purists that have little time for those that are new to the hobby or have questions. Like most of the newcomers, I am here to listen and to learn. I have been a diehard Whites fan and have exlusively use VLF (very low frequency) detectors and have never been introduced to the world of PI (pulse induction) machines. I purposely spell out the abbreviations for these two kinds of detectors for those who are unfamiliar with the terminology. I too will occasionally be stumped by terms dectorists throw around. We are her to learn and to enjoy the hobby. The above being said I have posted elsewhere whether I would be duplicating my machines if I purchase a Whites TDI SL when I already own a TDI BeachHunter?
  8. I am relatively new to the use of PI machines, although I understand the technology. I have a TDI BeachHunter, but I have not used it for relic or coin hunting away from water. My question: Can my TDIBeachHunter serve two purposes (beach and water + relic and gold nuggett hunting) or should I invest in Whites TDI SL? Despite common knowledge that TDI and TDI Pro exist on the used marketplace I have yet to see one on eBay with the exception of the TDI BeachHunter and TDI SL. I appreciate your thoughts.
