  1. IMO The Legend is seriously cutting into their market share.
  2. So Jeff, tell us folks that aren't able to use this newer tech, where, in your opinion can it go ? You already have way over powered machines that in most cases can't be cranked up past two thirds. EMI mitigation and unmasking ability is top notch so what else could SMF do ? Better target ID, maybe. So far I haven't seen it. Maybe you're right, maybe they will squeeze more out of SMF. IMO there is a newer tech coming.
  3. I hope you're right. Any ideas where else it could go ? I seem to remember reading that the Equinox was the first to run SMF, not to be confused with FBS/FBS2. But then again you can't believe everything you read I guess.
  4. The way I see it SMF is 6 year old technology and most agree that its peaked. To throw just another SMF machine in the ring this late would not make sense. No it needs to something special and I hope it will be. I will buy one. Mark
  5. GB, funny you say that. I often thought the same. In the old parks I hunt an older nickel is the most common coin I find and without a doubt a 64 is the most common date. I like digging nickels, I'll dig them all day long. And my new thing now is searching for a Henning nickel. Since getting the Equinox in 2018 is when I really started pounding on the nickels and I often wonder of all those tumbled, rolled and turned in did I miss one. Henning nickels for those who don't know were counterfeit nickels with dates 1939, 44, 46, 47, 53. There was rumored to be a sixth die but never confirmed. For me it adds another layer of interest in the hobby. Congrats on the silver score and other cool finds as well. Good to see you are enjoying the Manticore. Continued success. Mark
  6. So, Chase and F-350. I bought the bone-conductors. Within seconds they paired up to the Legend. They work great but could be a little louder. Funny thing, I tried to pair them to my 800. I do as Chase suggested using the Bluetooth button. I hold it in till I hear the bee-boop then wait another 15 seconds for it to go into pairing mode. Anyway in about 30 sec.or so the headphone icon shows connected on the screen but the bone-conductors are still flashing red/blue. I wave a coin over the coil and I hear the familiar penny signal coming from the other room. The 800 paired to the sound bar on my TV. Haha. I had that happen once before, back in the spring of 2018 I was standing on a sidewalk in front of the house I was about to hunt but couldn't seem to pair the ML80s. As the coil moved I could hear a signal coming from inside the house. Probably on that guys home theatre. I remember thinking strange, also remember the manual stating the 800 you could connect up to 4 Bluetooth device's at once, (An option not available on the 900) so why didn't my ML80s pair also. Meant to look into that, never did. Forgot about it till this recent episode. Another thing, not sure how well this is known but if, once you have a device paired to the 800, you shut them down first (headphones/earbuds ) then the 800, reverse the procedure for starting up, headphones first the headphones will pair up right away. Contrary to how the manual states if I remember correctly. Seems you had to fiddle around doing it that way. Anyway thanks for the tip on the bone-conductors F-350 and good luck to you and Chase. You guys are tearing it up down there. Mark
  7. F350 thanks for the link. I lost the bone conductors I had last year so will give these ones a try. I hope they pair with the legend. I had a pair of headphones that would not. Mark
  8. Well done guy. Congrats. A once in a lifetime find. I did dig a 1909 VDB a 1909 Ihp on one hunt in an old park, unfortunately no S mintmark on either. Good to see you're enjoying the Manticore. Good luck. Mark
  9. A factory reset does not revert the software, only the settings. Mark
  10. Welcome and good hunting from Pittsburgh JJ .
  11. Zaj56 I agree, having to plug in to the module IMO is not really wireless. In your case with hearing aids I would think a transmitter would be my first try. I notice no lag with the headphones, earbuds and now lost bone conductors I have used with the 900. I guess the only way to know if there is a latency issue with your hearing aids is to give them a try. They are easily returned if you get them on Ama--n Most use the Mii, I prefer Trond. As far as recharging, for me its remembering to charge the transmitter after I top off the 900 and headphones. Would be the same case, the WM09 would also need to be recharged. Hope you get it worked out. Mark
  12. Its bad enough for the average Md'r but a double whammy for guys who use hearing aids. Not sure if I ask you this before, what part of SW Pa are you located / Do you ever get up to hunt the old parks in Pittsburgh ?
  13. Zaj56 is correct. The wireless audio signal is proprietary for the Manticore, 900/700 and Xterra Pro. This has been a bone of contention with many Minelab users, myself included.
  14. F350 Congrats on the rare old state half penny, token, cool baseball medal and the other relics. The soil could've been a little nicer to such a fine old coin. The baseball medal is the first one I've seen posted. When I first started Md'ing I found the same one in my neighbors yard , a 40s build with an AT Pro. Like you I never found any info on it but I love it and still have it on display. Yours has more detail than the one I found. Have to say a little jelly of all the old hunting ground you have right outside your front door. lol Good luck in the new year. Mark
  15. Welcome to the hobby. Buy once, cry once. I say Legend. And don't forget the price is going up after the 1st of the year. The ferrocheck works really well on the Legend to about 6 inches or so. I agree you don't need all the extra settings right now but as you progress in the hobby you will come to appreciate the versatility it offers as opposed to looking to upgrade if you would go with the Double Score. The Legend is pretty much a turn on and go detector so I don't think there would be much difference between learning either machine. Good luck. Mark
  16. Not without using a transmitter. With one you have the option of using most Bluetooth devices. Although it can be a PIA a it beat wearing headphones in hot weather. Good luck. Mark
  17. I suggested an adjustable cam lock on the midshaft. I bought a new version the end of Sept. and the wobble and creaking and even flexing in and out of the mid shaft was very apparent. I contacted Nokta and was told the problem was with the lower shaft. Which they quickly replaced. The replacements finish did not match the original, The replacement was somewhat better but still has a little flex to it. These days My Legend wears the LG24 so movement is almost unnoticeable but I have to remind myself not to use it as a cane when trying to get up. lol Other than that I will say I really enjoy using the machine.
  18. Maybe a little off topic but as far as plug ins go I often wondered why Nokta hasn't offered plug in diagnostics. It would save time and money knowing just what the issue is and perhaps being able to rectify it without having to ship it. Minelab it too tightassed to get the stick out, hell you can't hardly get an update out of them. But Nokta on the other hand puts the customers concerns and needs in the forefront. Something most business models are sorely lacking these days. Not sure if it would be possible but in my mind if they can patch you an upgrade via computer then diagnosing issues with your unit should not be all that hard. Just thinking out loud.
  19. You sir are a gentleman, putting it mildly, "not my cup of tea". I flat out can't stomach the guy. With all his clickbait and shenanigans I would rather watch reruns of Oak Island before I would give him one more click/view. That crap he pulled with Minelab was not about the truth, just him and drumming up views. In a way, not a bad strategy, putting the village idiot out front, as they say publicity, good or bad is still publicity. Sorry for the rant but that guy strikes a nerve with me.
  20. What happened from the guy from South Carolina, I though the was the main stain for XP.
  21. Simon, agree, this is a mess of their own making. you will still need to plug your headphones or earbuds into he WMO9 correct ? Although not tethered to the detector you still have to mess with wires as opposed to just pairing headphones and on you go. So maybe half wireless. Ha ha. I was one of those who whined about the proprietary headphones but quite honestly I haven't seen enough from the 900 to invest another nickel in it. I bought a Bluetooth transmitter for $29 and it works fine with earbuds. The ML85s aren't that bad when you can use over the ear headphones.
  22. They should be offering rebates for the stuff they have been peddling lately.
  23. Another thing to add, small nails can sound sweet from a couple different angles. In t 2 tone they will not sound round or smooth. One more thing I read, haven't tried, only because I keep forgetting is if you go into ground balance mode and sweep they say uo can hear the iron coming off the target. Good luck. Mark
  24. Dave, pretty much a 6in. coil user with the equinox 800 &900 most of the time. Let me say I tried the 10x5 for about 6 mo. I decided I preferred the 6in. Not so much falsing on the edge of the coil as falsing off the tip of a rusty bolt or nail. Ever notice, pop the plug, the pinpointer say staight down. you think this is good, but as you dig the signal starts pulling to the side wall of the plug. This is that. So the 900 seems to do iron wrap more than the 800. When I suspect iron wrap or iron falsing I'll pinpoint to see if the signal pinpoints under the sweet spot of the coil. If it doesn't it s junk, a good target won't move. Also pinpoint can give you an idea of target size. Next what I like to do is go into 2 tone. You would be surprised how descriptive 2 tone can be on a target that sounds sweet in 5 tone. Scratchy, elongated tones are definitely not a coin sized non-ferrous target. Throw a coin on the ground, sweep in 2 tone. Throw a rusty nail down and sweep that, you'll see what I'm talking about. Not foolproof but it will help a bit. Good luck. Mark
