  1. That was the way I was leaning based on your earlier thread...thanks for confirming. I was hoping you would chime in. I actually wanted to send you a PM for your opinion on this subject but I don't have enough posts for that privilege. 😀
  2. The availability of the NEL Snake for the legend was discussed in this thread In that thread I mentioned I was new to detector prospecting and wondered if the NEL Snake would be a better nugget hunter over the stock 6" Legend coil. Clearly the Snake can get into spots the 6" cannot and that alone MAY be enough reason to buy one. When I looked at NEL's site I noticed the "Sharp" coil. https://nel-coils.com/index.php/en/production My novice take is the Snake covers a bit more ground, gets in tighter spaces and has slightly better separation. The Sharp covers less ground than the Snake or my stock coil, has a bit less separation, but a bit more depth than the Snake, and being only 5", I still get into slightly tighter spaces than my stock coil. The Sharp seems attractive for the smaller size (Compared to stock) and more depth. But if the depth is no better than my stock coil, and there is no other benefit beyond being 1" smaller than my stock coil, I'd just go with the Snake for the size/shape advantage. To those with actual experience, is my thinking sound... anything I'm not considering?
  3. I just bought a Pinpointer to go with my Legend. I settled on the XP MI4 over the Nokta AccuPoint. I use it in vibrate only and would absolutely buy it again.
  4. Not that it matters, but i probably could have worded that better. I won't be working in the water... in a actual creek bottom. That's just a term for being at the bottom of the valley, or canyon. SW Oregon is pretty mountainous so you are either hiking uphill or down. Some placer areas are quite hard to get to, so I definitely want the best coil for the job considering the effort. I will actually be working exposed bedrock near the Creeks/River, high benches and old dredge tailing piles.
  5. Good to know. I'm sure there are too many variables to form conclusions but, it sounds like the potential is there. Hiking into creek bottoms is not as easy as it used to be, so I'd like to be using the best coil for the purpose, especially since the Legend is not a dedicated gold machine.
  6. Thanks. I didn't think you would know but thought perhaps there was some data out there to extrapolate how the Snake has performed on other detectors vs their stock coils that were similar to the LG15.
  7. I have not had a chance yet, but plan to try my luck prospecting (Nugget hunting mainly) with my Legend since I live in a gold producing area. Do you have any thoughts on how the NEL Snake might perform for this task compared to the LG15?
  8. FWIW, I received the LG30 and shaft upgrade yesterday, and had it out for a few hours today. No wobble or creaks... Feels very solid, just like the aluminum shaft. Hate to be Captain Obvious, but I noticed the shaft end of the locking lever appears to have a rubber end which contacts/grips the shaft. Any chance yours is missing?
  9. Just got back into detecting after a 30 year break (Bought a new Legend but my old Compass Judge 1 still works!) and found your site. I also have interest in prospecting and dredging. Ran a Keene 6" in the early 80's for a few years. Great fun! Brad.
