  1. I haven't tried the Snake coil yet but I have used the Sharpshooter and wasn't too impressed. The sharpshooter was hotter on the front half of the coil than the back half. It worked OK but didn't knock my socks off. I have the Tornado coil for the AT Gold as well. I really like that one for covering ground. Really smooth coil. If you get one let me know how you like it. Kenny
  2. I wish I could be there to ask Watson what the regulations are for illegally mining private property, and how to get the fine points on claim jumping. If you do business with this guy you had better keep one hand on your wallet. Kenny
  3. Found these Chinese ear rings and silver snuff spoon at an 1850'-1870's mining camp. Came out of the hole with a couple big scrapes of the pick. Don't know how I didn't hose them up LOL. Kenny
  4. Used those with my GMT. Worked perfect. The only thing I didn't like about them was the replaceable cable that broke rather quickly. Kind of spendy for a replacement. Bought a good soldering iron instead. Kenny
  5. That's a beauty for sure....Cool idea. Kenny
  6. Pretty cool lightning photo. Kenny
  7. Hi Jim, Thank you for another excellent informative post. Thanks for adding photo as well. I hope to find some silver one of these days. Not too much found locally but I'm not too awfully far from places that produced large quantities. I have heard of a couple platinum finds locally as well. The validity of some of the finds is unknown but it is possible for sure. Heard tell of an 18 oz pocket of platinum not far from here. In the short amount of time I have used the F75, it does seem that of all of the discrimination modes, the JE mode works the best for me in high mineral dirt. It seems to allow a quicker sweep speed and maybe a little better depth than boost mode. I haven't thoroughly played with all of the modes but I find your description/comparison of the modes to be exactly what I am seeing as well. Once I can learn what the detector is trying to tell me in disc modes, I will try and figure out the all metal mode. I'm really happy I finally purchased the F75. Steve's posts back on the old AMDS forum originally peaked my interests. Reading your adventures intrigued me even more. In the past couple years I broke into the coin/relic scene when I purchased the AT Gold. I was only detecting for nuggets prior to that. I originally purchased the AT to detect old cabin sites in the mining areas. Something the prospecting specific orientated machines are not well suited for as you know. Once the AT got me hooked, I knew I had to have the F75. This new one with DST really is a pleasure to use. I have not had the opportunity to try a concentric coil on the F75. My interest is once again peaked :-) My go to coil at the moment is the 5 x 10 DD. I feel the performance in mineralized soil and trashy sites to work better for me than the stock 11" coil. I also prefer the solid design, doesn't hang up on every little twig. Unfortunately, I don't see any detecting time in my near future. Life is getting in the way :-( But I can't wait to get out and continue my F75 education. Thanks again for the excellent information. I will print it out and add it to my F75 bible that I have created from all over the internet. Kenny
  8. Thank you Jim for the in depth, excellent information. Your right...it has been awhile since the AMDS forum. This F75 is a new adventure for me. I'm still in the learning mode but I am seeing things I like for sure. As an example...when compared to the AT Gold that I use. When in hot rocks, the AT will of course announce them loud and clear in All Metal mode, and similar to the F75, when the AT is switched to disc 1 the hot rocks disappear. But...the major difference is when the AT is switched to disc mode it automatically loses 2 to 3" depth right off the top (little pun there). I have played with this on an in ground target. While swinging the AT above a buried target, clearly audible in all metal, switch over to disc 1 and it disappears. The impact of switching between modes on the F75 doesn't appear to be nearly as dramatic. I haven't had enough time on the F75 yet to verify the differences on an in ground target. There are so many combination of settings on the F75 and lately it's been a large time span between detecting sessions, I can't keep track. For the most part in my local area I run in JE mode. It seems to offer the best combination of swing speed and depth in the hotter soils here. Been using the 2L tone selection and the F75 keeps surprising me how well it separates in the nails. I can't wait until I gain more proficiency with this detector and really understand what it is telling me. I'm really impressed with the number of bullets I have found with this F75. It really locks on and I pretty much know what it is before digging. If it will do that with bullets, it will darn well do it with gold :-) Great chatting again Jim. Take care and keep us posted on your adventures. I always enjoy your posts. Kenny
  9. Man...sorry to hear about your NON-resolution. I'm kind of surprised to hear it actually. I have heard numerous complaints about Fishers QC, but very few about the customer support. When I sent an email I copied everyone I could find a Fisher email address for. Not just customer support. I had several phone conversations with Gene Scullion, super nice guy and very willing to help. Sorry you had to dump the GB2. Kenny
  10. Your going to have to sweeten the pot a little to make that a fair trade LOL
  11. Thank Jim. I hope it helped bring some changes. During our many conversations, Fisher actually thanked me for making them aware of certain aspects of their organization and things they could change. I hope it helps. They really do make some excellent detectors. Have you noticed the ability of the F75 to negate hot rocks. I know you have used the original F75 quite extensively in your quest for silver :-) Kenny
  12. I would but I don't think anyone can help that 6.0 LOL Get that tool box switched over to the dodge and call it good :-)
  13. Hi Rick, Fisher actually sent me 4 brand new detectors at no cost based on my findings. As I said above, everyone I dealt with was more than helpful. I'm not sure I would say only one of them was actually defective. When the non-filtered all metal mode is substantially weaker than the filtered discrimination mode, In my opinion something is amiss. When your paying top money for a flagship detector I feel you should get top performance. A frustrating experience it was but I think it was worth it and I think it brought some things to light within the company of Fisher itself. Maybe it was educational for all of us I hope. I understand assembly line and mass production but maybe they can implement some tighter pass/fail requirements and really make these shine. The F75 is an excellent detector. It may not fair as well as others in hot ground, that's not it's strong point. Actually in hot ground I think it becomes similar depth wise to my AT Gold. But in mild ground it's a beast, that's where it really stands out One thing I discovered on a prospecting trip.was it's tolerance for hot rocks. Heavy basalt in this area, I couldn't completely tune them out on the GPX 5000. When running the F75, I could hear the hot rocks loud and clear in All Metal but when switched over to disc mode Boost process with zero discrimination.....those hot rocks simply disappeared. Not a whisper. I didn't find any gold that trip with either machine but the hot rock elimination impressed me. I have a couple other spots to run it over and see how it does with the hot rocks there. Kenny
  14. Hello Everybody, I posted this on Dankowski's forum. I thought others my find this information helpful so I'll put it up here :-) This saga all began in January 2015 with the purchase of a brand new (not upgraded) F75 LTD with DST. This first unit (11-14 model) was defective (the display was rattling around in the housing) and it had the "mama" pin point bug. After discussing with the dealer I purchased it from, we decided the best course would be to return it directly to Fisher. I contacted Fisher and they issued a return label no charge. Off it went. I asked that the new unit be completely calibrated and tested prior to shipping. Unit #2....This machine air tested quite well, 16" on a nickle in discrimination mode but weak in all metal mode. Really weak, like 13" max. On top of that, when used in dirt (actual detecting), the TID was extremely erratic. Called Fisher again. They sent me another return label at no cost. Once again I asked that the unit be fully calibrated and tested prior to shipping. I was assured it would be, like before. Unit #3....This one arrived, (same #2 unit I had sent in) with a note saying the coil was bad. No mention of calibrating or testing. The TID was now stable but the all metal mode was still anemic. Nothing had changed there. Back on the phone to Fisher. They sent me another return label. Once again I asked that the replacement unit be fully calibrated and tested. Once again I was assured it would be. At this point Tom was advertising one of his calibrated F75 LTD's. I bought it. At least now I could go detecting and know I was using a unit that would do what it was supposed to do. When this one arrived I did a quick air test on a nickle. over 16" in discrimination, BP, sensitivity 99, disc zero (just like all the other tests). All metal is close to 18" in air test. I'm smiling now!!!!! Unit #4 from Fisher arrives....OK, I'm thinking finally can get down to business. Surely this one would be proper. Man was I disappointed. This unit actually air tested worse then the last one both in discrimination mode and in all metal mode. Unbelievable!!!! Back to the emails and phone calls to Fisher. I also did a side by side air test and in the ground test between the Tom certified unit and the one from Fisher. I recorded the side by side air test results on a piece of poster board. Took a picture of it and emailed it to Fisher showing them the difference. At this moment I thought....since I have two machines sitting here, why not try swapping coils. So....I did another air test after swapping coils (11x9 is used in all tests) What do you know.....now the machine from Fisher air tests almost identical to the Tom certified unit. I sent Fisher another email explaining what I had done. Saying it may just be a coil problem. They responded saying that they would send me another complete unit but they were worried that I wouldn't be happy with anything they sent since I had a Dankowski F75 LOL. I said give me a good unit that I can have a clear conscience selling. Unit #5.....Well, Fisher finally got it right. This unit air tests every bit as good as Tom's calibrated unit, maybe even a shade deeper. It took a lot of time and persistence but they made it right. I will add that everyone I worked with at Fisher was really helpful and the service was great. They just really need to work on batch consistency and QC. The F75 is a beast. This fifth machine is for sale here Brand new F75 LTD If your looking for one that works like it should....look no further. I went through hell to get it, almost hate to part with it. I can't use two of them though. I would sell the Tom calibrated unit but it has been used....this one has only been air tested and made a quick pass over my test garden. I guess the moral of this story is if you don't think your detector is doing what it should. Ask why!!! Thank you to everyone that contributes to these forums. If I hadn't read what these machines were capable of I would have never known I had a sub par machine. Kenny
  15. I would really like to have to complain about hitting a 50 oz pocket LOL Kenny
  16. Nothing like a buzzer to snap you to attention..... Kenny
  17. Thanks guys. I think it's a pretty cool score :-) Different than most of the other Junk....err...treasures I find LOL. Bado1...I haven't nailed down the fairgrounds yet but I'm sneaking up on it. Running out of places for it not too be.... Kenny
  18. Can honestly say I haven't found one of these before LOL. I was out getting a little more time on the F75 LTD2 looking for an old 1800's fairgrounds. Wasn't getting targets in this area until I came across this. I swung across the end of it when I found it. I thought it was another horse shoe. It was completely intact and about 7' long until my dumbass started digging it up. Thought it was just a piece of sheetmetal, pried up on it and snapped about 10" off one end. I know it's not worth anything but I think it's a cool find. I have tons of axe heads etc., now I have a saw LOL. The wife just loves these old rusted treasures I haul home....REALLY :-) Kenny
  19. Sweet score!!!! Bigger than I have been finding lately. Especially nice when it's a surprize LOL. Kenny
  20. Nice haul...you earned every one of them. That surf will pound the crap out of you. Kenny
  21. Outstanding day..... in what looks to be an outstanding spot. The 5000 really is an amazing detector. I have yet to use it for relic hunting but I don't think it's going to be long before I give it a go. Nice finds. I bet the newbie was having a blast. Kenny
  22. Your computer guy/photographer might be back in the country in a few days LOL
  23. That would be this one Klunker.... The valley we camped in........... An old automatic dam gate...those were some smart fellers.............. Camp........ Two trips in and two trips out. Took a dredge/highbanker, detectors etc and not enough picks and shovels :-) Flew in around 130 air miles to the middle of BFE. Pretty safe to say we didn't see any dig holes excpet for ones made many years ago. Awesome trip. I think after it was all said and done it cost us around $500 bucks using the gold we found to offset the expenses, for an 11 day vacation. Oh, and maybe a few broken picks and shovels. Good times. Kenny
