  1. Hi jasong, there was no additional metal added to the equation and the signal was equally strong in both directions. In fact, when the GPX with the 12x15 coil was going over the target, the user removed his headphones and I was amazed as to how loud the signal was. My buddy Chet was there and maybe he will chime in on this as well. That night I watched your video you made comparing the 11x17, 13x17 and GPZ and from what I remember from your video, there wasn't much of a signal difference and that was with a 4500 if I'm correct. Thank you for producing that video. We like to do these nonscientific infield comparisons as it allows us to better understand the limitations of our detectors for the ground were detecting. I just wish we had more time to diagnose our results. Brian
  2. Good information Steve. I agree, a target buried for a long period of time will make a detector react differently. This non-scientific test that we did, the results were a bit disconcerting, since I figured the GPZ should win hands down. I still believe in the GPZ, but now I know its not absolute. The bullet was lead.
  3. Just recently we were detecting (all experienced detectorist) in the grasslands of California, with two GPZ's, one had the stock 14" coil and the other had the 19" coil and two GPX's one had the 17x13 Evo and the other had the Minelab 12x15. Towards the end of the day, we decided to perform a test. We buried about a 9mm slug 14" deep. I went over the target with my GPZ, HY, Normal, Sen 15, Smoothing Off, and barely heard the target. Same settings with the 19" but much better results. Heard the target about three inches above the ground. Next, the GPX with the Evo coil in Sharp, General, don't remember the gain but a smooth threshold with the gold screamer, and no signal. The next detector is the one that is really giving me heart burn, the GPX with the 12x15 commander in Sensitive Extra, General, don't remember the gain but a smooth threshold with the stock battery. It gave an obvious signal about 5 inches above the ground. I could not believe how loud of a target response this stock GPX gave. After hearing the results from the GPX, I increased my Sensitiviy to 20, but there was too much ground noise to hear a target. I also tried different ground and gold modes with the GPZ, but nothing compared to that GPX. I wish we had more time to really investigate, but we were all tired, and the sun had already set behind the mountain. Is this just one of those scenarios that we must except and move on, or is there some credibility here??? Has anyone done similar tests or can give some suggestions? Still scratching my head, Brian.
  4. Hi Pax, when I needed information regarding my Minelab GPZ, I emailed Minelab Americas with the serial number and they were able to tell me dates within a few hours. I email Jamie Moeller (Customer Care Support) at, Jamie.Moeller@minelabamericas.com According to his email, his direct line is 1-630-401-8154, Located in Lisle, IL. and Customer Care at 1-877-767-6522 Hope this helps, Brian.
  5. Klunker is one though dude! Congratulations on the gold.
  6. WOW Rick, you certainly can fit a lot of stuff into that Jeep, well done! Imagine how much more stuff you could bring along if you had a roof mounted cargo carrier. Dry washer??? Brian.
  7. For the record, I do not own a TDI SL, but I want Whites to be successful! By increasing the Volts in the SL, I'm curious as to what the interesting results are? Also, by increasing the volts, how does it compare to the TDI Pro? Brian.
  8. Fun video Paul. Hope your heater works :) Are you still in Trinity country? Brian.
  9. Glad you found some gold. Yup, looks like gold country :)
  10. Great Golden Videos and thank you for doing such a great job of filling in your holes! Brian.
  11. AuWanderer, I used the 17x13 Evolution on my 5000 all summer long before I purchased the 7000 and was very happy with its performance. I went the elliptical over the round because the areas I hunt have a lot of brush/rocks and the elliptical makes it easier for maneuvering and for pinpointing. But I hear and have read, round coils do punch deeper than elliptical coils of similar size. One thing I will say is, I did wear the coil tape off way to fast. Might be the curved design on the sides, but the tape did not last more than a dozen trips before the coil cover fell off! Brian.
  12. Tom, thanks for the video, great enthusiasm.
  13. No, that was my last outing, but it was a good one. I hope to head over the hill soon, and get me some of those multi ounce nuggies that the other machines are missing :) Plenty of gold to go around.
  14. I never get tired of seeing gold, good job.
  15. I know, it sounds weird. I carry my pinpointer on my left hip and when I swing the 7000 to the left, the coil picks up the pinpointer. So by wrapping the coil portion of the pinpointer in AL Foil, it blocks the 7000 from picking it up. Here is a video from Woody demonstrating this. It was more noticeable on the 5000 than the 7000.
  16. Great pictures Peg, I sure had a lot of fun hunting with you. You definitely have got that 7000 dialed in:) See ya in Ca. Brian
  17. Hi Usaflaginmaine, When I first started out detecting, I read the manual many times and watched lots of you tube videos demonstrating the use of my detector, and then fine tuned my skills in the field. If the target repeats, I dig it, period! Brian.
  18. I had a 92 YJ with the 4.0 and I loved it. Keep in mind, if its a soft top, there isn't much security. Brian.
