  1. When you beach detect I'd say you mostly look for jewelry, or at least I do. (School is an exception to this 'rule!' haha) We find coins while detecting for the good stuff and we'd like to slot out the pennies and some other coins. It is not really possible with modern coins, especially the penny. Last night I was digging pennies with IDs beginning at 3 and going all the way to 28 on my 800/15. While digging all these corroded pennies I did find a couple of interesting more valuable objects. All of these pennies make me wonder how the Manicore is going to handle them. If you use some sort of automatic program ... how is it set? What are the adjustments? I think there needs to be a feature that will let you tell the type of metal the detector is seeing (copper, zinc, gold, silver, combos, etc.) but I think they try this on the ferris scale adjustments. As Strick says the 3030 lets you see things our other detectors don't. The pennies ... Ah ... gold teeth! Stainless steel ... (no markings) 16g ring with the lucky 8. I wish it was gold! It came in at a 10. A little savings ... The teeth were near the beginning and the 8 ring was near the end of 2+ hours.
  2. Every now and then I find some cash. I'd like to return it. Can you guys help? Maybe it is yours? Where did you lose it? How much cash did I find and what was the exact location? (Be CREATIVE Klunker!)
  3. It was time for a hunt ... but I've done that each of the last few nights. Last night's hunt was better on the counts but it came up a bit short on the value. The first ring of the night I thought was my best until the next morning. I was finally able to read a 14kt GF. Bummer. It came in as a 21 so I'm not too surprised. Some of the other rings. An odd mix. The one missing the 'stone' is silver. Here are more pictures of the loot. The bottom of the aluminum can above was found down over 20 inches. I hate those digs but they sound so good. I've also included some pictures of previous hunts just to show the difference in nights. This last tray includes 3 rings and of note was one of my best 'spoon rings' ever. What is a spoon ring you say? It was once a silver spoon that was chopped off at the end and shaped into a ring. Notice the overlapping design which would allow for some adjustment and expansion.
  4. If you are a beach hunter like I am most of the time then you have to deal with the crusty, corroded, rusted, scratchy beach sounds. I mostly use my Equinox 800 with 15 inch coil and I listen for targets first and interrogate until the target starts to identify itself. At some point I determine if I'm going to dig (most of the time) based upon the sound, ID and what I have been finding nearby. I'll dig tent stakes, shield pennies, screws (steel & iron) and other things. I sometimes say to myself if I'm not finding rusty bobby pins then I'm not in the right place. With all of that trash in mind and the new detectors coming out with improved chips and id displays, what do we know? I mean, do we know that the manufactures are trying to make these trash signals 'invisible' or actually show them and make the id so good we know not to dig like a pull tab at 14 for instance on the 800. What detector have you found that works the best on the crusties?
  5. Hi Guys can anyone provide a real world, non-sponsored view on the XP deus 2 and bone phones - mainly for the beach and more importantly for the water/dive. I have a long experience with the excals, ATX, CTX and various other detectors - tried the original XP a long while ago and moved on quickly. Minelab have been so slow on a 'CTX replacement' - so the D2 11" needs some investigation. For those with the XP D2 machine - are you still happy - or wished you waited for the new minelab CTX 4040! (one can dream??) Thoughts appreciated before spending the $ OBN?? Dale
  6. With out a doubt. Pick any 10 hunters ,any 10 different machines starting from $200 up to unlimited. It would be very hard to bet against any of them. Except for ruling out the guy who swings his coil up to his hip.
  7. This is not jewelry but they were all found in the sand while hunting for jewelry. In the past 3 months or so I have been digging Kennedy halves on the beach. I found 3 one time, 2 one time and singles 8 times. The dates are from 1971-2000. Anyone else find this odd???
  8. Out looking for Gold rings again today, mostly trash exept for a few coins, but they add up fast I almost have 100.00 again in coins, and the rest is trash .Looking for Gold rings is like investing in the stock market, you just have to keep at it and eventually it will pay off, if you sell because the market goes down , you will not make money , and if i quit because i only find junk 6 days in a row you have to keep at it cuz the big ring is out in that field just waiting to be found , maybe under a bottle cap , or amongst the pull tabs and Can slaw and foils , mostly disappointment, but good exercise.
  9. First switched to the Standard Coil for this hunt. Good idea to lightly grease the coil fittings while I'm at it. Dicided to use the Tarsacci Headphones so removed the PigTail. Pigtail was a little stubborn after having been on there for sometime. Little shot of oil did the trick. Won't let that happen again. Refreshed myself on directions for G ballencing, and everything else I might have to change for a Salt water beach. Of course taking both coils, some spare parts just in case. Another thing making a check list to make sure I don't forget everything else I need. Like make sure my Scoop handle isn't ready to snap in half. Little things like that. We all been threw it.
  10. Had a little time and felt good so went to the river and set my chair up and hit the water. About an hour later with a pouch full of scrap i headed for my coffee cup swinging along. Right in front of the chair i got a great high tone. Nice little sterling ring! Poped it on my key chain. Pic shows the scoop in the silver hole. Haad a lot more trash but emptied out once before
  11. I've been making the most of some very low tides to hunt at the back of my local bays.. Amongst a load of crap, this is yesterday's haul from Alma Bay.. $32 and some cheap jewellery.. This haul really opened my eyes to the differences in success between scuba and beach detecting.. These coins and jewellery were found along a swimming/snorkelling zone where I usually dive (3 to 5 metres deep).. To my great and eternal shame, I missed them.. Although some are newly dropped, others have been there a long while.. Covering this zone on scuba takes a long time.. Visibility is not always what you'd expect for a tropical island.. Constant channel dredging for a nearby port and mangrove swamps along the coast keep our waters pretty murky.. Also, the smaller coils on the Deus II and PulseDive make it harder to cover large areas.. This compares to covering the same zone whilst beach detecting with larger coils: strolling along the beach, cherry-picking juicy targets and digging as deep as you like without the hole washing away.. You can see what you're doing and the target stays where it's supposed to be, all this makes the job much faster.. Although not necessarily more enjoyable as the challenge is gone.. On scuba the biggest haul along this zone in one morning was $6.50 and an silver earing.. In bays which have shark nets the scuba vs beach hunting ratio is usually the other way around, as people are herded together in one small space.. I'm lucky that on the island coins are still in everyday use, even in a mostly cashless society the island's busses still only accept cash.. As do all small businesses like the tourist stalls at markets along the beach, the 'tropical fruit juice lady' and the seafood van which sells straight from the island's trawlers.. This means there's a regular supply of coins dropped at our three main bays, all within 5 minutes from my house.. Yes, I know.. I'm a lucky son of a.. very nice lady!
  12. Hi People, I have serious doubts regarding equinox. In wet sand I don't find a single gold object. I dig everything above VDI 0. Do you mine gold below 0? Settings: Beach 1 or 2 recovery 6 Sensitivity 20-22 FE F2: 0 My beach attached, and my path line horizontal and vertical...(I found a lot of plumbs) Best regards,
  13. My style of hunting is always enhanced when wave energy is right. Last night there was a reasonable amount of energy that washed coins ($6) and rings (5) up and also washed some of the sand from the blanket line down. This is what happens when you get a 'cut' on the beach. I've had much better hunts and I'm still on a gold drought, but the chain and silver ring are pretty nice. There is an unusual black ring with gold lettering that I can't recognize. Does anyone have any ideas?
  14. Early morning dive today and second time on the seabed with the D2. Nothing to say about the Anderson shaft...Just amazing. Talking about the D2,I found useful to use the pitch tone and the treshold to make it as similar as possible to the analog oldie in my hearth... I'd say that numbers are almost not relevant, cause with this machine I just dig it all now... Happy for the first piece with it, especially for the damn place where dozens of competitors already sucked dredging all the shines days ago...This actually means that with proper tuning and some luck, if there's something more,You can still pull it out with the D2. Really scarce time for me now and no video for today... Sorry... Cheers from Europe Skull 💀
  15. I had a chance to do a rare off season beach hunt and I must admit, the sun is way hotter in the summer. Went to visit a friend and he suggested a small beach we could hunt. Not much of a low tide and a lot of trash, iron, and rocks. I used the GPX 5000 for this hunt and listening to all the iron was fun, 🤬 but I eventually did find a patch of iron that produced really well. The iron was very shallow so it blanked out and I could then hear the low or high tones that indicated a good target. What surprised me was how shallow some of the good targets were. A buffalo nickel 2” down, and the deepest target in that patch was 8”. Most of the day I found a lot of junk and it was many hours before the first coin surfaced. Almost all of those good finds were found in the last hour and a half of the hunt. It felt really good to be hunting a beach, I don’t think I want that much direct sun exposure though. 7 hours is enough to dehydrate me, but at least I got tanned in one day.
  16. I'm finally done with all the mods to dive properly with the D2. Even if I've modified it deeply, I'm still not so satisfied, especially for the money I spent🤔. Almost 400$ and counting, cause the next mod will be an handmade layer between the Doodads clip and the remote to keep it firm once for all. I'm disgusted by the poor quality of the supposed "locking" tape which is leaving and falling in pieces. Only one dive and I can already see the transparent part of the remote to appear 🤐... This happened just removing and mounting the remote on the original clip for testing and program build. Without words now... Just for knowledge. And this is what it looks now, ready for the second dive before the winter (I hope).
  17. Last night on a better tide I went back to a little patch I had found in the morning. In the morning I had found a few coins but no jewelry but I had a feeling with more beach I could do better. At night the parking lots near this beach are closed so I had to walk in about a mile but it proved to be worth it. Soon after arrival I found coins on the steep beach sides and just kept digging for over an hour. There was much more black sand than the beaches I normally hunt so I decided to change some settings. My first setting change was to move down from 23 on the sensitivity in Beach 1. That helped but then I decided I would try some F2 which is normally at 0 for me. Well, I'm here to tell you it worked like a charm. The 'noise' went away and I could hear the targets stand out. Soon after these changes I got a good clear 9 and was hopeful. It wasn't the 18-21s I had been getting or the 30s for quarters. Out popped a ring and in the light of my flashlight it looked to be golden but a little light. Bag it. Next target 2 feet away was a second ring. It looked like silver but maybe better so I bagged it. (The first ring had no markings and we think it is stainless. The second ring is marked P4SR. It is not a pure precious metal!) The 3rd little ring came along a bit later and it is not precious either. So I didn't have much, right? Well, not exactly. If you look closer at the picture there is a wirery looking chain. I knew it was silver but just thought it to be cheap. I didn't have my light on when I scratched it with my scoop. I was just using the half moon light at the time and just bagged it with the other stuff. I had loosened it a bit but thought it quite corroded. When I got it home and put some fresh water on it it was much more flexible. Then it was time clean it with the aluminum foil/vinegar/baking soda/salt. It blackened quickly and bubbled and then I was able to rub it with just baking soda. I could now see DY. I know that to be David Yurman from previous finds. It is a good feeling .925 chain that weighs in at 22 grams with a 26 inch length. That is when I was able to find the pattern and identify it as the Open Station Box Chain. It reminded me of my previous find so I looked it up here: The tag in the center was found several miles away but on July 22. That was 3 years ago. This new chain supports that pendant quite nicely. It makes for a nice combo.
  18. No great finds but picked out some clad that all were 6" to 9" or so deep. Never really hit a good nickel signal, focused more on covering big area for silver and coins. Pinpoint was strange at times, faint and little or no screen action. Maybe this happened on deeper coins. Pinpoint is not really needed with this coil wading in sandy bottom. Had some trash, 3 full ringpull tabs, 2 just ring end, 3 older big square tabs, 2 beer bottle caps and 2 aluminum fire nuggets. I like this coil! Clad quarters seemed to read high and some iron tones almost buzzed. Didn't notice much in weight difference or swing ease in the water, maybe i was going faster!

  20. I hit the wet sand for 4 1/2 hours with the Excal today hoping to find some goodies during low tide. Targets were few and far between but I did manage a couple dozen coins and about half that number pieces of jewelry although most of it was the cheap stuff. Exceptions were 2 silver religious medals and a silver ring but the find of the day was an eyeball find. As I was nearing the end of the hunt I spied a pair of sunglasses in the surf under a few inches of water. They had the "Ray Ban" logo on the lens but I know that there are fakes out there. When I got home I took a closer look at the sunglasses and I could see that they were of good quality. Not only that but I couldn't find any scratches or blemishes whatsoever. No doubt the most pristine pair of sunglasses I have ever found. I will be putting these babies to good use!
  21. With the weather extremely hot and dry here in Central Texas. I've been hanging around the rivers and the lakes taking advantage of the low water levels. Last few times out I haven't had to get into the water because there's so much exposed ground to hunt. I hit two different swim beaches yesterday and they both paid off in a big way. First place, I wasn't 30 minutes in when I got a 25 on the equinox. I was expecting to dig either a copper penny or clad dime. I almost fell over when I saw it in the sand. This was my second class ring in 2 weeks. The first one was tungsten or stainless and I was able to return it the same week that I found it. This one turns out to be a Texas A&M college class ring weighing an impressive 33g. I should be able to track the owner down fairly easy. The second beach I had to spend two and a half to three hours before I finally found a 9 g platinum ring. which rang up at 10 on the Nox. On the inside it says My Forever 11- 10- 18. I was able to add a little silver to the day by coming across a Mercury dime. After 7 1/2 hours in the heat I finally had to give it up and head back to the house. I dug a lot of holes but it was very rewarding at the end of the day. That cold beer never tasted so good 🙂

  23. I've spend the morning having a looksee under the Picnic Bay jetty.. There was crap everywhere and I ended up cherry picking for dollar coins and 50 cents.. I ended up with a grand total of $23.. I was surprised to find 2 old pennies and 1 half penny.. Most of the coins were at the beginning of the jetty, a favourite spot for tourists to have sex on the beach.. I must admit that I've also made good use of this spot as a young dive instructor with one of my students many moons ago.. 😁 I've been wanting to have a better looksee since cyclone Yasi tore down the jetty.. A mate and I got the diving job to recover the posts and decking to rebuild it.. Many fond memories and new experiences today..
  24. So, my beach season ended on Memorial Day. I hunt off season from Labor day through Memorial day, so my hunts run from the end of one year to the beginning of the next year. Covid ended my hunting a couple weeks early, just as I found a new beach that gave me a bit of gold. Recovered from my friend Covid, but the season has ended. So, I just forgot about going through my finds and recapping the year. I had been spoiled by the last 2 previous seasons with lots of silver and decent amount of gold, but mostly silver coins. This season was very hard to get consistent silver as the beaches I went to, did not open up enough to get large areas of coins. In return, I got a little sloppy in keeping my good finds separate from some new beaches that I only hunted once. But the results I have here are from the beaches I kept track of, along with a drained pond hunt. In reality, this is probably the correct amount of silver I should be getting from my beaches, as with the release of new and better detectors, more and more people are finding the deeper coins. I cannot complain, but it was kind of a weird season for me. I did not take any pictures of the clad, but there was a lot, including a high number of copper wheats and memorials. Also found about 12 + Buffalo nickels. So, here are the finds, along with some descriptions on how I label my beaches. I plan to expand my horizons next season. I may even do some local cellar hole or park hunts closer to home. Always good to review your hunts and sit back and prep for the future hunts.
  25. It takes some energy to make my beaches pop and we had some recently. We still need more but I thought I'd put up a couple of pictures. I finally got them up by using a different computer! I've discovered I'm time challenged, computer challenged and phone challenged. I didn't know what was not letting me upload the pictures. I've gotten too 'comfortable' doing things a certain way and now it is a challenge for me to put the Google Chrome Browser on a Windows computer. I could write a whole topic on those things but that isn't detecting. Going to these pictures I found a little patch and I worked it like a nugget patch! I didn't have any other options. Before and after this part of the beach there was nothing. I gridded and I circled to get everything I could. It's about $5 and 3 rings. One stainless, one copper and one silver ring in the group. This is the copper lovers. This is the silver which cleaned up pretty nice. All of the beaches are back to little or nothing without some constant wave motion.
