  1. Who among you has experienced a coil ear breakage? Among those who have experienced a coil ear breakage, how many use or have used the coil/machine under water? I ask because I’m wondering if the added pressure of resistance under the water is the primary cause of breakage (aside from obvious design flaw). I use mine under water occasionally but haven’t had a breakage yet, and trying to avoid one until I buy a coil ear stiffener. Being aware of this issue I try not to over tighten too.
  2. I had one coil that had a cable that was badly sun burnt and brittle. A bit of heat shrink and tape fixed it, but looked nasty. The Snake Skinz covered the mess nicely. Looks like a useful solution to a common problem. Probably will fit most coils, certaily good camo for repairs. All the best.
  3. Well, after over 3 yrs my 11" coil broke an ear. Here are pics of my attempt to make it stronger than new.🙂 Put the fiber glass on with super glue then a layer of epoxy over that. I'm not sure it needed the epoxy but it smoothed it out. Little black paint coming.
  4. FWIW, I notice Serious Detecting is showing the Coiltek 10x5 NOX as in stock this morning. $235. https://www.seriousdetecting.com/product/coiltek-10-x-5-dd-search-coil-for-minelab-equinox-600-800-metal-detector/
  5. is it possible? something beyond the norm and what we are used too. could coils be more than the type of coil they are now? could they play a greater role with advanced tech?
  6. Over on the Tarsacci forum a lot of us have been expressing the need for a smaller coil. Some say they want a round coil of different sizes from 4” to 7” but I’m the one who’s throwing a pipe in the spokes. I’m wanting a elliptical coil say around a 10 X 5” that I think gives you more ground coverage on each swing. We’ve been told that the powers that be is thinking about coming out with one. That’s the rumor and right now that’s all it is . I just think any detector can’t show it’s full potential if held back because of lack of coils. Chuck
  7. Can the GP extreme detector be fitted with dd coils or just mono coils? I have come up with one to buy it and I would use it most of the time for the beach, so I ask if it could be fitted with dd coils
  8. I thought maybe the MJ coil and this coil were similar in dimensions... but if I'm reading the forum correctly. The MJ coil is 8x12 and the High-Q coil is 7.5x12. So I suspect any coil covers would be different. Or is it better just to make one?
  9. Coils with all edges round and coil thinner. Shaft more aerodynamic like this maybe.
  10. Curious if anyone ever made a DD coil for the whites 6.59khz or XLT that was about 8 inches or so? I remember seeing a small 4x6 style one once.
  11. I used my Equinox a lot in longer grass, and also in very rocky areas. The spoked design coils are never my preference but that's all the Equinox has. I couldn't believe it when the Coiltek 10x5" came out as an open design and I asked if they intended to make a solid coil cover for it, they told me no they don't. It would be very funny if Nugget Finder started making solid skid plates for the Coiltek Nox coils, In fact I hope they do. I noticed they have them for the Equinox 11" coil, so I just had to have one. I hope they continue this trend and make them for 6" coil too. Seems well built, fits well... is solid, what more could I ask for? Now I just hope they make more sizes for the other coils, especially the Coiltek 10x5" and ML 6".
  12. Does anyone know any information on the new coil for the TDI SL and if the coil will be available separately? TDI SL is now ... TDI Hi-Q A new high performance coil design for added depth - in two options TAN Part Number: 800-0334-Hi-Q CAMO 800-0334-Camo MSRP: $1199.95 MAP: $1099.00
  13. I got a place that has deep coins. I've found a lot there with the Equinox with a lot of them 9 plus inches deep. I'm hoping there are some a little deeper that I've missed with the 11 coil on the Equinox that the 13 deus might pick up...any ways just playing to see what might show up. Also will have the Equinox with me to play with. I've found all the other coins with the recovery speed on 7 and thinking about slowing it down to see what might happen. Like I said, just playing around to see if I can possibly get an older deeper coin. HH!
  14. A lot of you are gonna get the Coiltek 10x5 coil, and some of you are going to be irritated like I am that the Equinox falls over when you set it down. Went on Amazon and found the cheapest/ lightest rifle bipod I could find: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M0A1RB5 It would be terrible for a rifle, but it's great for the Equinox. The legs fold out, and while they can get in the way when swinging the detector, I find I'm pretty comfortable using them open. It only weighs about 8 ounces. The best part of it is the clamp, it can be used universally, even on my new carbon fiber shaft. The legs are removable from the clamp block via a thumbscrew. Another benefit it seems to provide is enough counterweight to relive trigger finger, I've been having a lot of problems with my right ring finger locking up at night. It's a lot better now. The clamp is probably steel, so don't tighten it too much and hit it with WD-40 now and again to keep it from rusting.
  15. So I somehow discovered a fresh water beach that looks like its never been hunted. Yeah! But I now realize why. The trash is INSANE! A large building burned down here in 1930. Great place for a beach right? LOL Makes as much sense as me just ordering a 5 inch coil so I can collect a small handfull of coins. Although I will know soon enough.......will a small coil be a significant help? Or, it will help but dont expect miracles.
  16. I know myself over the years liked to hunt with a small coil but you had the option of a round coil and really was it Now days you can get them in about any variation one would want. I’d like to hear from others if you see the need for a smaller coil like the one I started this post with. Up front I want everyone know I think the beast 12” coil is great and I don’t have trouble swinging it. For myself I see the need of having a small coil would be a advantage to me when not a BeachHunter . The main advantage to a small coil to start with is you can get it in places that 12” won’t fit. As always the Best To all! Chuck
  17. Finally got my hands on one of these coils and am grateful. I was also lucky. Very lucky. First thing I was pleased about was that my Equinox coil bolt worked, it was a little tight but went right through. Did a system reset and re-paired my headphones. Next I noticed the coil cover is kinda sloppy, so I grabbed a couple of black zip ties, problem solved. I have an ear stiffener on my large coil with zip ties so this is no big deal to me. It will be easier to get off than the Minelab cover which was tough to get on, let alone off. It was kinda late in the day, so I set up my usual settings, Field 2, sensitivity 23, F2=3. This is what I used last weekend at the campground to score over 200 coins, although I had to switch to 10kHz a few times to cancel EMI. I went out in the back yard to a spot where there are hundreds of bullet shells of all sizes and metals, some steel, others varying brass, and a lot of lead. I wanted to see how the coil performed in a very dense metal environment. I noise cancelled, and then ground balanced in a spot with no metal. The first thing that struck me was how easily this coil goes silent when pumping it, I almost never get a perfect reading with the 11" coil, so I just go with it. This coil went silent after a few pumps no matter where I balanced, either turf, soil, or the dreaded "gravel test" in my driveway. If you've ever hunted in gravel, you know what I mean. The silence after about 5 pumps was shocking, and then every real target appeared with no false sounds. Wow! I tried it in a bit of field, thinking what a bonus it will be this fall because they planted corn this year. Real easy to maneuver. In turf it "falsed" a bit when it hit tall grass or stiff weeds, but not nearly as bad as the 11". Another thing I noticed was how "tight" the target IDs were. steel shells were 9 -11, brass 13-15. It almost seems like the coil has laser precision identifying targets. Can't wait to see how accurate pinpointing is! I didn't dig anything because I just got my lawn looking good, but I plan to take it to an area where there is a ton of trash, and see what I'm missing. It picked up targets at max depth, so the proof will be in the diggin'. Just a first impression, more to come.
  18. I'm still looking for an Equinox 800 and have been cruising ebay. Serious Detecting has several "slightly used" 600's and 800's with the images of the bottoms of the coils with white material exposed. Where the white isn't exposed it appears to me that the bottom of the coil is just covered with a plastidip or spray bedliner like substance. I know nothing about the Equinox and I'm guessing that the white is the internal expandable foam that holds the coil wires in place? From the images the coil bottoms don't appear to be worn to expose the white, is this a quality control issue? Are the bottoms of the Equinox coils generally exposed like this, with no hard bottom, or are these coils an anomaly. This image also shows a coil cover/skid plate, but several of the ads don't indicate that a cover is included.
  19. How hard is it to make the hard-wired coil cable on the compadre to a removable, plug in type? I have two compadres; one with the 8” donut and the other with the 6”. If I made them removable I could use them on my mojave and vice versa. I’m pretty handy and can solder. Just need a source for the connectors and which ones to get.
  20. For anyone interested in seeing how a Dual Field is put together, I recently did a video on making one after reading a lengthy thread on the Geotech Forum. Cheers

  23. I have an easy and maybe stupid question to present now... Observing my TDI Bh, with both of the coils I own (the original 12" and the aftermarket Detech 8"), I can clearly see way too long wire around the shaft and I'm forced to make several loops up to the control box near the handle. Supposing to measure the right lenght for the maximum extended shaft, and to cut away the hipmount mile long cable.....Am I doing a disaster or not? I actually can't remember the technical cable's specs in the amazing pdf Steve posted time ago, but if I'm correct it talked about to reduce some current resistance with a slight performance improvement too...Have I seen a mirage or what?... I'm not kidding 😜... It's just me, looking for something to play with, suffering for a missed AQ.
  24. Why do the 11” and 15” coils have a small arrow pointed toward you at the top of the coil?
