A Minelab dealer down Geelong way put up the below post about an Aussie company starting to make GPZ coils. Interesting timing, wonder if the Russian guys have forced Minelabs hand to allow a local 3rd party to make coils. I don't care what coils everyone wants to run lol Lucky Strike Gold Brand new GPZ coil coming soon! ? There is a rumour in the wind that an Australian company will soon be making GPZ 7000 coils. At present there are only Russian made after market coils being made, so hold off and bag yourself a genuine Aussie made one. They will be cheaper than the Russian coils and, as always, very well made.

I swapped out my Nel Big coil on my AT Pro and put the stock coil on and just for kicks I did a quick air test to see if there was any difference and I found that the targets now hit 15-20% further away ie dime at 10 inch instead of 8. For those that don't have Garrett machines and a 3rd party coil, the procedure when changing coil Garrett says to do a factory reset of the machine. So if anyone knows, does using a large coil setting on a stock coil essentially do a tx boost? Do other machines require factory reset after changing coils?

Finally got to work on testing the 7 1/2DF, 8x6 Sadie, MJ 8x12, and 12"DF. Did a comparison on the 7 1/2DF and Sadie with both battery packs, and a comparison of the MJ 8x12 FM, and the Whites 12"DF at 16v. EDIT: I notice I cut off the early portion of the Miner John comparison. Hope you get enough of the sensitivity of that coil. It works very well on my SL. Jim

I know everyone probably gets sick of coil questions, but i have another. So the area i have been detecting and finding nuggets in VA was found back in about 2011 by some friends of mine. They hit it hard for a few years till it got to thick to hunt. One of the patches they found at this place was 100s of yards from all other gold finds, and was initially found with a 9X12 nugget finder coil, when they found a 1.5 ounce nugget. The next trip out they used a NF 24X12 coil and found, i think a 3/4 ounce, an ounce piece and hold your breath a 7 ounce lunker at about 30 inches down. But to my surprise that NF24x12 is the biggest coil they used. He has owned a 18inch and 24 inch mono coil as well but never really used them at this site due to EMI issues. Now my understanding is, that a 14 inch round should out punch the NF 24X12 on large targets at depth, and that Detech coils seem to generally less affect by EMI when compared to NF and coiltek coils. However would a 14inch DD coil out punch a 24X12 mono? Please correct me if im wrong. So the question is, is a 14 inch detech mono going to be a better option, or detechs new 15 inch Ultimate DD coil. Which would punch the deepest in fairly hot ground, with a good bit of EMI flying around. Lots of questions as i learn more about the site im detecting. Thanks guys,

COIL SAVERS Hey guys, I just got these in, they are a really simple and worthwhile upgrade The “CoilSaver” washers serve to massively reduce coil ear and coil yoke wear by spacing them from each other to prevent them rubbing together (see photos) These also make your coil tighter on the shaft (no floppy coil) and reduce the chance of snapping your coil ears off as the bolt will not need to be overly tensioned. They come in a pack of eight with two thicknesses so you can mix and match them depending on the wear of your equipment. I was wondering why I haven't seen this question anywhere. Does a bigger coil use more power?

I was curious if anyone has any knowledge on this.I have a older model spectrum that came with a 9.5" coil and I found a 6" deep scan coil.What is the depth difference between the two under the same conditions.By the way I am mostly a coin shooter.Thanks in advance for any information.

This is a little premature perhaps since we are still waiting to see any accessory coils at all for the Equinox detectors. First up will be the 6" round DD followed by the 12" x 15" DD coil. What next? I think the Equinox has genuine potential as a gold nugget detector, but that the open spoke coil designs slated so far are not optimal for that purpose. Plus, some relic hunters etc. want something narrower than the stock 11" coil but do not want to give up the ground coverage as much as the 6" round coil does. Minelab has a couple molds for elliptical coils. There is the 5" x 10" DD coil for the X-Terra but that coil is not fully waterproof and too buoyant for water use even if it was. The better option in my opinion is the newer 6" x 10" coil made for the Gold Monster. The Minelab Gold Monster uses the exact same lower rod/yoke size as the Equinox, meaning the coil, coil bolt, and even the coil connector are already the proper size to fit perfectly to the Equinox. Here is my Gold Monster 6" x 10" DD coil mounted to my Equinox 800. As I said, a perfect fit. The Equinox version might weigh more due to more windings required for Multi-IQ but the coil as is weighs less than the 11" coil. My Equinox with this coil mounted weighs 2 lbs 13 oz or 2.81 lbs, slightly less than the 2.96 lbs with 11" coil. It does make for a little better balance. For nugget detecting in particular a solid bottom coil helps prevent snagging on rocks and stubble. I imagine the farm field hunters would love the coil for similar reasons. Anyway, I have no hints that this will happen but I am going to be referring to this thread over and over until it does. With a mold in hand half the work is done, and with the extreme popularity of Equinox no good excuse for this not happening. I personally think it is a requirement for Equinox to be all it can be as a prospecting detector and for many other uses also. Nope, not going to turn it on to see what happens!! I came into possession of a Deltech 8x6 SEF Pro coil for a EDS Winner detector. Would this coil work on a MXT Tracker E-Series detector? I believe the frequency for the EDS Winner is somewhere around 28khz. New to the sport so looking to get educated. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to have a guy on here make contact with me offering his Elliptical for sale to me. Right now my money is on the way and by the end of next week it will be in my hands . I’m excited to give it a try on two lots almost down town that has lots of history. I’ll be posting my finds right here.

With all of the recent aftermarket coil discussions filling these forums for both the SDC and GPZ, it makes one wonder if they are just trying to be relevant or have a plan to change things up. It’s speculation. But, the timing is interesting. It must be uncomfortable seeing another company modify your product for a profit. There’s also probably a good reason they haven’t released alternative coil options to date. Hopefully, nothing of lower quality gets released in haste.

A piece of information I value and often can't find (or can find, but sometimes unreliably) are coil weights. I'm attaching a list I've assembled. These weights include the cable and the coil cover (unless noted). The uncertainty of the measurements is estimated at about 2 grams. Coils that are made with the same name and nominal dimensions, but for different detectors, will likely have some difference in weight due to the number of windings and possibly other discrete components (e.g. resistors) inside. But you can still get an idea of a weight if you find a coil you're interested in but it's listed for a different detector. An example here is the Detech Ultimate which came in at 532 g for the Fisher F75 and 549 g (as measured by Phrunt) for the Fisher Gold Bug. A more extreme case here is the "Digger" coil for the X-Terra series at 481 g and the same housing, cable, etc. of a prototype Gold Bug coil weight of 437 g. Coil_weights2.pdf

I have a Vaquero with the stock 8"x9" concentric coil. I'm wondering if I should get a DD. There are quite a few out there, for example the Tesoro 5"x10" (stock on the Lobo SuperTraq) and similar size (open structure, though) by Mars and also Cors/Nel. I'm only interested in coin hunting with this detector. Anyone out there with experience care to comment whether or not I'll see (hear!) much difference if I get one of the DD's?

I have had a Garrett ACE 250 for several years and just bought a very slightly used Garrett AT Pro a week ago. A couple of times I did not get any sound when first turned on but after wiggling the coil cable it started giving tones again. On occasion it has suddenly started chattering with almost no movement and I have done a reset and it corrected the problem. My main issue right now is that if I bump the coil cable close to the connector I get a tone every time. I have removed and re-inserted the connector twice making sure it is fully inserted but still get the tones. I have made sure its not the connector itself. I don't have another coil for the AT Pro to swap out. I texted the previous owner to find out when he purchased it hoping it was less than the 24 month warranty that Garrett has. Wondering how strict Garrett is on fixing issues like this or replacing a coil with a bad cable if I was not the original purchaser. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just got my 6” coil, and a dedicated lower rod is on the way. To make on-site coil changes fast and easy I came up with the following system. Each lower rod and coil have the cord fastened near the bottom with just enough slack to flip the coil flat for my carry bag. Then I made the straps shown with adhesive backed Velcro from the $ store. The soft part goes around the middle rod by it’s adhesive backing. But then it extends 2” and the hard part of the Velcro goes on the sticky side of it so one side is hook Velcro and the other side is loop Velcro and then it is trimmed narrower with scissors. I have one of these on either side of the folding mechanism I installed on my box shaft. What saves time in the field is that these straps stay on during coil change and securely fasten the coil wire. Also, in my case with the folding shaft I used zip ties to make a loop in each coils cord to go where the folding mechanism is where the cord never interferes with the folding or unfolding of the shaft. I will keep the other coil in my detector bag so I can change the coil during a detecting outing it the situation warrants it. No big deal but easy enough that others may consider doing this method of strapping. A

There are a couple lots on Ebay where the seller includes a Tesoro Widescan (DD) 5 3/4 inch coil with plug modified/replaced to operate on a Fisher Gold Bug (the new generation Gold Bug, not the 1990's versions). I'm wondering if anyone here has heard about the possibility of going the other direction -- putting a Fisher Gold Bug / F19 / Tek G2,G2+, Tek Greek series coil on a Tesoro?

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me what ones best of these two coils I've herd alot of good things about the 12 round nugget finger coil but like the eleptical coils as can get them in places the round won't go and I know the 12x8 is fairly new .but thought I'd ask if anyone has any experiance with it compared to the 12 round ..on depth and sensitivity?

Small objects are sensed by an internal small coil and larger objects are sensed by the larger outside coil, and the overall depth of target sensing remains similar to that of a single coil construction. The smaller coil is isolated from the pulse source by the inductance of the larger coil and will ring at a frequency determined by its own parameters. To prevent the smaller coil from ringing, a second damping resistor is connected across the terminals of the smaller coil at the junction of the large and small coils making up the modified search loop. Has there been any talk of an eight or nine inch coil for the nox in the future?

G'day, I have been a very lucky guy to have been using the new Equinox 15x12" coil . I decided not to tease anyone with threads about it until it was out there and becoming available to the public. As they are starting to trickle through now I will now say what a awesome coil this coil this thing is. Light for size, very sensitive for a big coil, good pinpointing and really great depth ( depth at the beach amazes me and gives me a workout to dig targets ), Its Spring here and I am just getting back into the water with the warmer temperatures so hopefully some gold jewellery will fall in my scoop . Even though Winter at the beach here is a bit slow, I have done some wet sand + some shallow saltwater hunting when some very low tides occurred. This 15" coil is stable (as good as the 11") in the saltwater and IMHO it is not difficult to swing underwater in light - medium wave action. Most of my hunting has been for modern coins in parklands and a few beach hunts. I have found stacks of $1 and $2 coins and almost least one ring every time that I have had it out...most have been silver - one gold ring to date. The 11" coil has not been back on my Eq800 since I have had the 15" , the bigger coverage it provides suits my style of hunting very well. So if you are thinking of a good Christmas present for yourself this is one that I highly recommend and is one that will probably pay for itself in no time. cheers from Downunder and happy hunting ?

We recieved the 15's from Crawfords in the UK . Who kindly sent mine with Randy's together for Saturday delivery .Thank you the Crawfords crew you made this hunt possible . Kev my son with his sooty and sweep went out with Randy Dee on a permission that has been well detected in the last few years . And producing Roman coins and artifacts . Randy and my self where armed with the new 15 inch coil . I was in field1, AM ,5T,BIAS 4,RECOVERY 2 . I usually set at 20 but due to the nature of the field iron infested . I settled with 17 with the 15 . It worked great . As we progressed I meet up with Randy mid morning (fund out ) Bloody hell the whyly fox had 8 romans .His comment was THIS A CRACKING COIL. Coming from Randy that a great complement as he has 40 ++ years detecting and has had the machines . I had 2 ???? I was detecting back to the car for lunch . BANG 31 hhhuuumm . Dug over the full length of my JR Stainless spade . Tried it still in the hole reading 29/30 .By this time Randy and Kev had appeared . Randy gave it a swing hhhuumm summet there DEEP . So I dug 4/5 inch out with my digging tool place it on the side looked .Could see a silver glinting in the muck . I pick it up gave it to Randy .he said its a bloody Denarius and an early won .'Turned out to be a Vespiasian . 69/79 AD . My first Roman Silver and a cracker . I ended up with 8 roman bronzes and the Denarius . nice roman brooch . Randy really cut it up 22 romans and other bita and pieces .Kev had 8 and a very nice snake item (*brooch) ??? Se if I can put some pics on . Well done Minelab on producing a fantastic coil WHICH will stay on the Noxie .
