  1. I’ve been getting the email from Minelab about this contest that will end tomorrow for a cap are T shirt . After that I’m sure a 18 wheeler will be coming down my street to deliver all the caps and T shirts I’ve won . I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve entered. I did tell them while they going to have to make that trip anyway go ahead and bring my 6000 with them. I’m like George Washington in I cannot tell a lie but I can stretch heck out of the truth. Chuck
  2. So i won one of the GPX Contests and here is what you get. A T-shirt that only your wife can wear because we all know Americans where XL-XXL, this one was a medium. Plus its a GPX6000 shirt that you get to wear while using your other Minelab detectors as you wait months on end for yours 😂😂😂. Love it! 🤦‍♂️ However the new hats are pretty cool and actually fit.
  3. I like watching the show How It’s Made and when I turned the TV on today it was about making detectors. They were at Garrett factory and started out showing how their coils were made plus how each was tested. Then they went through the whole assembly to complete a working metal detector. I’ve seen something like this before but I believe it was somewhat different than the previous one. It was just good to see something American made. Chuck
  4. I’m wondering if anyone knows anything about them . The only thing I know is they say their location is in Queen Creek Az. A friend ordered some dirt from them for panning and they got his money but didn’t get what he paid for. If you have any info please PM it to me. Thanks! Chuck
  5. The issue with counterfeit metal detectors is getting bad. eBay in particular is full of them. Amazon not as bad but they are there. If you Google for lowest pricing, you will find scammers. Be careful buying used now, could just be a front for a scammer. Fake Gold Bugs Destroyed It’s pretty simple. Metal detector products generally have enforced minimum advertised prices. That’s the price you see most often and at all the legitimate sites. It’s the price I list in the Detector Database. Anybody pretending to be a dealer and selling the item for significantly less is likely to be a scam. Either accept that you have to deal with legitimate dealers selling at the higher prices, or find yourself a scammer selling for less. If all you care about is finding the lowest price on the internet, you WILL get ripped off. Well, not really. It’s voluntary. I am deleting all the links to these rip off sites when people post them. Outfits like King Detectors or Alibaba. The links below list a lot of them. I don’t mind identifying them by name but I do not want to advertise for them with links. Just accept that they are out there. Thanks. However, there can also be scammers selling at the minimum advertised price and really making a killing. All manufacturers have lists of legitimate dealers on their websites. You want to stay safe, stick with those. Just a tip however. They can sell for less than the advertised prices... just call them and find your best deal. Tell them you don’t need the “free stuff”, you just want their best deal. 6. Dilek I know you’ve made videos at different times and it’s always a joy to hear and see what’s going on. You may not know this but you can make a old hound dog happy by throwing him a bone now and then. It’s the same with us here on the forum in we too like not a bone but just a hint of what’s coming out the back door of Nokta:Makro in the way of that multi frequency detector. I’ve lost track of the number of times that this subject matter has came up . That’s on the multi frequency detector that all would have been out by now. If nothing else can you say if it’s made its way in the field for hands on testing. I’d say you know about the different detectors that has been said will be coming out here in 2021 . I have hopes we will see a new detector coming from your company . Hope you can find the time to say Hi . Just to let you know we miss your face. The Best! Chuck
  7. Hey guys, been awhile. Any news on Doc? I bought a goldscreamer from him in January...it's not working, and tried to get hold of him for a month. Not airing dirty laundry, seriously wondering if he is OK, and if so, anyone know how to get hold of him, besides the 2 numbers listed? Thanks, Ray
  8. Covid Stress Relief Read... Warning, There is some DUMB sarcasm in this post. When it comes to metal detecting, I have no issues with any country and or how dumb/smart we/they/you/me be. If I offend you, no worries, it won't be the last time either. We need to go back a few years for some to realize, some dumb facts.... I figured it out. Gold Monster 1000 - Remember when Africa was sent the Gold Monster 1000 and nobody else. We in USA were told it was designed for them people and it even came with an adaptor for the broom stick (I'm not joking). Yea that detector, the one with Arabic writing on it. The one that's so simple and dummy proof that anyone could use it. But America and Aussies were left out? Well what happened? Australia gold hunters cried like little babies and said "we just as dumb as Africa" and want that detector. Poof and a few months later it happened. Then USA gold hunters cried like little spoiled brats we are and said, "we just as dumb as Africa and Australia" and we want a turn on & go machine. Poof and a few months later it happened. You see, even though this (now the #1 selling gold detector in the world) was never meant for USA or Aussie land, it has earned the respect and accolades as the most STUPID PROOF VLF gold detector out that that actually works quite well for ALL DUMMIES including myself. And that is the #1 reason I prefer selling it. Minelab struck it rich with this detector even when it was never intended for other markets. Hats off to the dummy Minelab Engineer (do they even have dumb Engineers?) who thought of it, but spill your beer to the marketing person who said it's for Africa Only, so I was told. I strongly feel this does make since, after all who in America reads Arabic and who has put a broom handle on the adaptor (would love to see pics). Heck I was going to do a video of just that, but then realized I wasn't smart enough to figure out the adaptor part's usage. GPX-6000 - Now we are coming to the most sensitive DUMMY PROOF Pulse Induction detector to ever be released and almost everyone seems to realize USER FRIENDLY (Dumb Operators) and ERGONOMICS is a MUST. Hats off to the Minelab team who realized this. Spill your beer to the team who thinks USA/Australia don't want the 17" MONO coil. After all we want what Africa gets...is what I hear us spoiled brats are calling. Well, well it's not so simple Mr. Scrooge. COILS -1st off, everyone is getting a MONO coil (yippie), but many of are not happy with DD coil we are getting. I feel it seems to do with the amount of EMI we run into the US, amount of transmitters/receivers, cell towers and airports/military across our land. I know for a fact there are good gold areas I had issues with EMI on my current detectors and MONO coils. Australia is probably close to the same issues I mentioned for USA, but I do know they have vast openness, but much more mineralized soils and salt as well. I tried detecting the salt flats there and even my old DD was not very productive, the MONO was useless and the best coil was the CoilTek Anti interference/salt. So I'm sure that's why we are getting the DD to begin with. The good thing is...after time and when Covid might be over, we'll be able to order the larger, deeper 17" MONO down the road. YIPPIE...Down the road!!! Batteries - Africa gets 2 and we get 1. Heck no, I can easily count two to two one...heck you know what I mean. Why is this Gerry? I thought this hard through and through (bout gave myself a headache), I thought so hard. And a lightbulb across the street came on... I realized to the conclusion, if we are just as Dumb as Africa and forget to charge our GPX-6000 battery that night (I've seen it happen on my 5000 and 7000), then we deserve 2 batteries as well, cause we just as dumb and forgetful (speaking for myself or am I?). Anyway, The best way to fix the not charged battery, is to get up before your hunting buddy and take his battery, put it on your machine and then put your dead battery on his charger. A bit later, everyone gets up, grabs their gear and heads out for the day's hunt. About 2 to 3 hours and 6 miles from the truck, he realizes his detector is down for the day and you get to keep digging gold. That's not dumb on my part, but being impromptu..until your buddies realizes anyway. Back to batteries and a strong thoughtful reason of why we (Australia & US) are only getting 1 battery in each box? Could it be because of the restrictions on shipping batteries in US and Australia is different than Africa? Heck, if you go online and try to decipher the allowance of a metal detector on a plane, you'll get quite confused and want to call their Help Line. Please don't do that, you'll get a dummy at the other end, that owns a Gold Monster 1000, and is afraid to tell you anything. Heck they won't even tell you if they take their detector on the plane. Does anyone know if Africa rules are much more allowable for electronics and battery devices coming into their country is different? I'm too DUMB to know, but I sure would like a 2nd battery. I will say this with pretty much certainty though. After time and when Minelab is caught up with GPX-6000's, I do feel we'll get the option to purchase a 2nd battery. Lets just hope its nothing pricewise like the GPX-5000 battery ($441 US), That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Can anyone shed some light to my dumb thinking? BTW. You know what that Arabic writing says on the GM-1000 as I'm to dumb to know? I heard through the tomato vine, it meant "Dummy Proof Detector". Heck, sign me up.
  9. Heck! my Simplex suddenly lost Sound & the days just started nicely after winter LOL I emailed Nokta Makro SERVICE CENTER in Missouri and they phoned me almost Immediately, He said I would only need the Control off the detector and it has a single screw holding it on the detector. I packaged it up & send it the same day. Several days later he called to say it's fixed & it is on the way back. I sent it Friday & got it backed Tuesday evening....... It's BaAAAck... Great to work "Andy" at the SERVICE CENTER Andrew O'Neal [Owner] Nokta Makro SERVICE CENTER Address: 120 Black Ave. Chaffee, MO 63740 Tel: 573-270-0447 Email: Noktarepairs@wedigmetaldetectors.net
  10. I see the Minelab GPX 4500 is being discontinued. If the price goes down is it worth it to pick one up or has what replaced it that much better? Perhaps a premium will now be asked for the remaining new GPX 4500's? Is now the time to buy??
  11. Back when I started detecting in the 70s there were pages full of detector manufacturers in the magazine. Frankly, because anyone could make a metal detector in their garage! For me at least it was obvious there were some people leading the way, and in the 1980s the "Big 5" were: Compass Fisher Garrett Tesoro White's Unfortunately things went south for Compass though the machines are well regarded even today. A brash newcomer arrived on the scene to replace them and so in the 1990s the Big 5 list changed: Fisher Garrett Minelab Tesoro White's I think we are now at another change in the list - at least as far as I am concerned. There are no doubt people who will disagree very strongly with me and that's ok. I am sorry to say I just do not see Tesoro as a major player anymore. They have been milking old circuits for far too long, and have made a lot of missteps as of late. Great folks, the Giffords, but I just do not pay attention to Tesoro any more. Also, Fisher has become part of a larger powerhouse named First Texas which also makes Bounty Hunter and Teknetics detectors. Who am I watching these days? First Texas Garrett Minelab White's ??? And right now entry into the Big 5 is a race. We have three big contenders and one or the other may prove to be a Big 5 member. It may even be we need to recognize a Big 6! But we are not there yet. Contestant Number One. XP Metal Detectors of France. There can be no denying the impact of the XP DEUS in the metal detecting world. At the same time, it is very easy to overestimate the impact. It is just one detector, and a very expensive one at that, on the shelf at very few locations. Before XP can join the Big 5 they have to broaden the product offering. To get me on board they need to put a DEUS in a F75 type body with traditional coils. if you think I am just an old fuddy duddy you simply do not know where the big bucks are in the detecting world at this time. They need a more traditional model or two under $1000 retail before they are going to have any real impact. Anybody that does not make a real good $500 - $700 detector is just not a player yet. They want to ever play in my world they also need a dedicated prospecting detector and a PI detector. Lots of people would like to see a multi frequency model from XP. No rumors even but I have to believe XP is working on a mainstream product under a grand. We will see. Contestant Number Two. Nokta/Makro of Turkey. These two companies together now as one actually have an extensive and fairly high tech product line but only very limited offerings targeting the mainstream consumer metal detecting world. Ignoring what I consider to be oddball models there are the Nokta Velox One, FORS CoRe, and FORS Gold plus Makro CF77. Only the FORS models have gotten any real attention and like XP we can really just get it down to one detector that has had any impact, the Nokta FORS CoRe. Honestly, nobody even heard of these folks a few months ago (sorry Nokta, just telling it like it is) and compared to even XP their visibility is minimal. I think it is safe to say yet most people in the detecting world are not even aware of them. They basically have to do what XP needs to do. Follow up with models targeting the mainstream, and they also need to establish more dealers and service in the U.S. Right now XP has a bit of a head start but Nokta/Makro have the more explicitly stated goal of wanting to be a Big 5 company with models including mid-range products, PI detectors, and more. There will be service in the U.S. any minute now and an expanded dealer base. They are behind and it is early but right now I am betting on Nokta/Makro as filling that open space in the Big 5 list soon. The new Makro Racer due in February could be their breakthrough offering. Contestant Number Three. Tesoro Electronics. It is actually their spot to give up and they could still hold into it by surprising everyone with a new model soon that defies expectations. I think the entire future of Tesoro is riding on the Cazador. If they surprise us with something that looks like it is made for the 21st century instead of being a throwback to the 20th century then they have a fighting chance. Maybe that is why the Cazador is taking so long - Tesoro needs to swing for the fences. It is going to be a very interesting year indeed!
  12. Yesterday, in Russia, a minelab dealer (mdregion.ru) announced that the installation of telescopic rods, folding knots on Minelab Equinox would void the warranty. In this video (turn on subtitles): What does Minelab dealers says about this in your country?

  14. (Note: I singled out dealers but really anyone, past or present who's been in retail likely has some insight so this includes you. I'm not about excluding anyone but think some people who have been in certain shoes are better able to give realistic answers as opposed to idealistic ones.) This seems to come up all the time and although it sounds like a no brainer for the consumer, the fact that it doesn't (or seldom) happen makes me wonder if there is a good reason (besides squeezing every dime possible out of the users). I'd ask the manufacturers but most of them don't seem too willing to answer questions. I describe the ideal scenario for the consumer: Select a detector control unit, a shaft, a coil (or coils). If it's an option pick out a power source. If you want/need headphones or boosters, transmitters/receivers, etc. find something to your liking. Want a control unit cover, coil covers, arm cuff strap,...? Go for it. Is this practical or are there headaches for the dealer that would make this too much of a hassle? (And of course that assumes the manufacturers would cooperate.) Also, do you envision major problems this would create for the manufacturers that would lead to offsetting (trickle down) costs and thus be of little improvement for the consumer over current practices?
  15. I was thinking about maybe picking up another Fisher F19 but when I called the Mom and Pop dealer guy I like to do business with, and whom I had bought my last one from, he told me he no longer sold Fisher. Ok... well....I'll go to the next dealer I like. Went to his website...no Fisher. Looked up a third guy but it looks like he is gone. Notice the major online dealers still carry Fisher but the few guys I like to do business with don't. Probably goes along with the inability I have had in even buying Fisher from some dealers who only wanted to sell me XP or Minelab, even though I expressly asked about and was interested in a Fisher model. HH Mike
  16. Garrett already makes security scanners.... now add thermal imaging looking for high fevers among those passing through. https://garrett.com/security/smartscan-system Garrett Rolls out SmartScan™ Integrated Health and Safety Screening Solution Garland, Texas (February 8, 2021) —Garrett Electronics, a design and manufacturing company specializing in security metal detectors, announced that it is now shipping orders of its popular new touchless SmartScanThermal Imaging system. SmartScan is offered as either an add-on accessory for new Garrett PD 6500i or MZ 6100 walk-through metal detectors, or it can be retrofitted into previously-installed Garrett detectors. “We are very pleased to be adding this exciting capability to our walk-through metal detector products,” said Garrett CEO Steve Novakovich. “Never before has thermal screening been so fast and easy for Garrett Metal Detectors customers.” Garrett SmartScan technology allows body temperature measurements to be taken simultaneously with metal detector security screening. “This allows your security checkpoint to become an efficient, multi-functional, no-contact portal using artificial intelligence,” said Garrett Senior Product Manager Aaron Arellano. Among the early users of this new technology is the City of Fort Worth, Texas, which installed new Garrett’s SmartScan walk-through metal detectors at Fort Worth City Hall and the adjacent A. D. Marshall Public Safety Building. In a press release issued December 2, City Marshal Philip J. Swift explained that the SmartScan system was designed to create a “positive flow” and to speed up the screening process, making the Fort Worth buildings more accessible and safer for everyone. SmartScan has also been installed in other cities to protect arenas, K-12 schools, manufacturing facilities, and office buildings.

  18. At the time I post this there are still 3 days remaining on this auction and already the bidding has reached $61. I bought one of these (new) a couple years back for $10. (I may have had to pay shipping but no more than $5.00 for that.) I guess if you have a White's detector and need a battery holder you don't have many choices....
  19. From https://company-announcements.afr.com/asx/cda/d72645a4-716e-11eb-8e1f-ee060ef5e0c8.pdf February 18, 2021 Metal Detection – Recreational, Gold Mining and Countermine Minelab is the world leader in handheld metal detecting technologies for the recreational, gold mining, demining and military markets. Over the last 30 years, Minelab has introduced more innovations than any of its competitors and has taken the metal detection industry to new levels of technological excellence. Minelab delivered another record first half, with sales increasing 55% to $155 million. The growth in recreational and artisanal gold mining sales were due to our ongoing geographical expansion, investment in our distribution channels and new product innovations. The unique and distinctive technology embedded within our metal detectors underpins the success of this business. We are particularly pleased with the further diversification of our sales revenue, with our products now achieving market leadership at each key price point. Minelab recently introduced the new GPX 6000, which includes our latest GeoSense-PI (Pulse Induction) technology. This technology automatically tracks and removes unwanted ground noise, providing an easy to use, light weight and high performance machine. This product will be released to the market in significant volume from Q4 of this financial year. We continue to observe strong demand for our metal detectors with January achieving an all-time record level of sales. Note that the Minelab fiscal year runs from July until June of the following year, so fiscal year 2021 is already half over. The mention of the GPX 6000 being released in volume in Q4 is referring to April - June of this year. Minelab has dominated $1500 plus high end metal detecting for some time. This note “We are particularly pleased with the further diversification of our sales revenue, with our products now achieving market leadership at each key price point.” highlights that with the introduction of the Equinox and Vanquish series, Minelab is probably also now the leading seller of mid-range and lower price detectors.
  20. Go to approx 11 min 45 second mark here. I am not sure this video here actually reveals all that has been shared publicly. So I’ll post this link...https://www.findmall.com/threads/guy-with-first-texas-says-new-machines-coming-possibly-later-this-year.354573/
  21. https://garrett.com/whites-manuals So, if you're after a white's detector manual they're now listed again at Garretts website. Kudos to Garrett.👏

  23. As oddles of Equinox warranty's are expiring, it's been relatively quite on the Equinox forums. On the Dankowski forum there was a call from Mr. Dankowski himself requesting feedback for features to be implemented by Minelab on the next Equinox iteration. He and Steve H. appear to be two of the main beta testers in the U.S. Do we expect to see the next incarnation of the Equinox revealed at Detectival 2021 (if Covid doesn't shut it down a second year)?
  24. I just read about the possibility of an elliptical coil coming out and that sounds great!! What I think would be the number two thing for me would be a pinpointer that paired with my headphones. That and being very light are what I really like about the deus. I know some of you don't use the sound on your pinpointer but for me the paired mi6 has spoiled me. Everytime now when I use the 800 with my trx I'm wishing the sound was coming thru my headphones. I know just personal preference but I love it. HH, Tom
