  1. I do wonder what is up at White's Electronics. They have not put out a new detector platform since the V3i in 2009. Just rehashes of the MXT mostly. Yet they have been extremely busy on the research front, with the patent issued on half sine technology earlier this year http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/118-half-sine-metal-detector-technology-hybrid-induction-balance-pulse-induction-metal-detector/ And now a new patent for a constant current metal detector: http://www.google.com/patents/US8878515 United States Patent 8,878,515 Earle November 4, 2014 Inventors: Earle; John L. (Sweet Home, OR) Assignee: White's Electronics, Inc. (Sweet Home, OR) Family ID: 51798186 Appl. No.: 13/235,916 Filed: September 19, 2011 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The new invention provides better target object characterization and identification while eliminating ground mineralization detection. A constant current in the energizing coil establishes a constant magnetic field that goes from zero to a strong, but constant, field very rapidly, as in less than 10 microseconds. Target objects such as coins and other eddy current objects have an energizing time constant usually exceeding 10 microseconds, wherein the eddy currents accelerate until field equilibrium is reached in the target object. A constant current or constant magnetic field does not produce a significant signal in a receive coil after the transition from zero to constant current from ground mineralization permeability (powdered iron or ferrite equivalent). Target object eddy currents do produce a signal of varying amplitude throughout the constant current period, depending upon eddy current charging time or inductance of the object, usually not a simple exponential due to configuration of the target object. i.e., diameter, thickness, conductivity, etc. It will be interesting to see if these patents result in any actual product. People often make the mistake of thinking a patent means something is ready to hit the shelves and the truth is just the opposite. Patents are often filed and nothing ever comes of it. Or it gets licensed to others, who actually produce the goods. Who knows what is going on in this case, but White's is obviously still attempting to move the technology forward. I hope the best for them as they are an old name in the business and a great bunch of people. What makes this doubly interesting is Minelab also has patents in the works on constant current technology. http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/311-minelab-bruce-candy-new-patent/?p=2291 The Minelab work is an application for patent that has been in progress since 2009. This White's deal is an actual patent granted. Is there conflict here? Obviously with these two big names at work on the same thing something is up. Sad story is I am not well versed enough in the technology end of things to truly understand how this may actually improve metal detectors for the end user. Other than what it says up above - better discrimination while eliminating the ground. How much better is better?
  2. Hi everyone ,last week Jimmy had some specials on, now its closed , just when I was going to put an order in darn, does anybody know whats happening?

WINNERS FOR THIS CONTEST MIKE SLAVENSKY PETE HARRIS TAD ROBINETTE HARRY LIPKE MATT NELSON Mike's guess on the weight of the gold was the closest, Mike wins the gold and an autographed copy of my book.Pete, Tad, Harry and Matt were the other four finalist's, they will all receive an autographed copy of my book. Winners please send me your complete mailing address so I can send the books and gold out. Send your information to trinityau@hotmail.com THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED Hello everyone, I have been very busy with so many projects lately and I have not been visiting or posting on the forums much. I am finally finishing up on lots of stuff and look forward to posting again and getting back into the mainstream of gold detecting again. My hunting partner George has gone through a bout with throat cancer and just received a clean bill of health the other day, after a few months of radiation and chemo. I hope to be hunting together with him very soon. I have had many people wanting to know if I was going to plan an outing again this year in Northern Nevada. I have done this in the past with an open invitation to all. I am looking at possibly doing an outing sometime in June this year. Again, it will be an open invitation to all. Because I have been off the forums for a while I am hosting a free giveaway. The details are below and also can be found on TRINITYAU.COM WIN YOUR FREE COPY OF Detecting for Gold, Adventures, Trips and Tips DETAILS Guess the weight of each of the five individual pieces of gold, then guess the weight of all five pieces of gold together. Your guess should be made in grains. Click on each picture to open that particular picture in a larger view. This contest will run until midnight 21 February 2016. The first five persons that get the correct weight or closest in both categories will win a free autographed copy of my book, this is to include free shipping anywhere in the United States. This contest is valid only in the United States. The very first person to get the correct or closest weight in both categories will win a copy of the book and get the gold. 6. I was poking around on the web and came across the webpage of Depar Detectors - the Turkish company who are Minelab's distributors for the region. My oh my. Some bargains to be had on genuine product GPX 5000 - $2500 Maybe you already have the rod, battery and coils - Main Unit only - $1800 Only hitch is no sales to Europe, North America or Australia. Again, this is ML's distributor, not Chinese pirate crap! http://www.depardetector.com/trademark/Minelab/13 In December, the GPX 4500 was on special for $1771 - with three coils.
  7. Saw this Today Steve from Minelab thought Yall might like to look at it here http://www.minelab.com/usa/accessories-1/pro-alloy I saw one Today at a dealer..nice piece of equipment..Sort of pricey.. Keith
  8. I think most on here knew about the trouble I was having with my new Nokta Fors Gold Plus detector. The first thing Nokta done was send me a new handle being I didn't have numbers displaying on it. They paid shipping both ways but that didn't fix it Remember this company is over six thousand away. This Monday Nokta sent me a new handle and control box all the way from Turkey and I got it today. Well I'm seeing numbers on the handle I'd never seen before. Here again Nokta paid shipping to me and the same going back. If for any reason you're not sure about putting your hard earn money down on a detector. Well this company called Nokta and people like Dilek has been there all the way for me. I say put your worries aside because this company makes a quality product. You've heard companies say they stand behind their detector. Well Nokta stood behind it and right up front willing whatever it took to make a customer happy. I've said this in another post and that this is the first company to pay all shipping. I could have gone around the world for all the shipping Nokta has paid out for. With me sending back the defective control box Nokta can find the problem. making sure it don't happen again too others.. Thank You Dilek and Nokta Chuck Anders.
  9. I sent Nokta my address like they requested Monday. This morning I get a text from DHL saying they have my detector ;part and I'll get it on Friday. I've never had a detector that came in two parts. This is the thing that makes me uneasy but I got to put my faith in Nokta. I'm sure they have been down the same road before. I need to send the handle I have to them but going to check that comes with my new handle. The address that's came with the detector is longer than my arm. I just don't want it to get lost in space and never come down to earth in the right place I can't be spending my time thinking about that anymore. The Nokta Impact will be out in 2016 and I need to spend my time thinking about it. Nokta I f you will send me a good address I'll get the handle off to you this week. I thank you for the quick service. chuck Anders
  10. Minelab has completely redesigned their website - check it out and see what you think. http://www.minelab.com/usa/ Now I need to go on a hunt for broken links!
  11. XP is a company going places and they scored a home run with the XP DEUS in particular. Rechargeable coils are not my cup of tea but I admire what the company has done in pushing design boundaries. When they get around to putting DEUS capability in a more traditional package with less expensive coil options I will have to have one. Anyway, business has been good for them and they just finished an expansion of their facility to better keep up with demand. http://www.xp-detectors.co.uk/the-new-xp-factory-is-finished/ I wish them success going forward and will keep an eye out for whatever new products they have in the future.
  12. Something that may be of interest I just ran across on a Aussie nugget forum!! Sounds like Whites may be coming out soon with a new pi of their own that will compete with the rest!! https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14297
  13. i got an unexpected package from minelab today and I'm not really sure why, no that I'm complaining. it was a fat little package envelope with an Australian coin, US quarter a Minelab token and a bumper sticker (not one of the ones Steve posted). its not my birthday... is this a special minelab holiday and they send out trinkets every year, anyone else get a surprise bundle in the mail? Hope they keep this up, a new SDC and then a CTX to round things out would be nice, i can't wait to check the mail tomorrow.
  14. 25 color pages of great metal detecting finds. Check it out! Ready for download at http://www.garrett.com/hobbysite/searcher_pdf/3500069_Summer_2015_72.pdf
  15. I bought this from El Dorado it arrived last week and man is it cool ,the craftsmanship and detail is just great. I wore it to a gathering the other night and the comments and inquiries were non stop. Until I found this the only thing I've wore on any chain is a dog tag or a couple of nuggets I had a loop fastened to. So if your looking for something to wear on a chain (without feeling like a chick) this one is bad *ss and just drips testosterone.......Rob
  16. I just found this Post on P.A. About how china hacked Minelab Through and Employee's LapTop while they were staying In A Hotel In china while using their WiFi. https://au.news.yahoo.com/technology/a/28544385/metal-detector-firm-counts-cost-of-hacking/
  17. I have never had a company treat me with so much respect and lightning fast response like Nokta has... A lot of companies could really use a schooling from Nokta on how customer relations should be conducted... I was contacted this morning by Dilek @ Nokta by message from this forum ..submitted my address and phone # ... NO PROBLEM!!!! just made my day over something as small as a piece of plastic... I'm still waiting on Fisher 4 mths now for a response to my repeated emails and phone calls... SMH thank you Dilek for ur excellent customer relations and service...
  18. Saw this somewhere, a quote from Dave Johnson, currently Chief Designer at First Texas. Here's the quote. _____________________________ We’re not a company who stands still. Over the last several years we have introduced a whole series of new products on several new hardware platforms, and have constantly advanced the science of target signal processing. In the future we plan to introduce new processes which, although they may “feel” like a member of the T2 process family, will operate on different principles and will produce results of a kind which are not attained by any metal detector presently available. -Dave Johnson Dave is dead serious. When he says "...will operate on different principles and will produce results of a kind which are not attained by any metal detector presently available" - i believe that he is saying that it is NOT a traditional Induction Balance or Pulse Induction plaatform, but something else. Can he do it? We don't know. But before we assume that this new platform will be the answer to everyones wish list, here's another quote from Dave - from March of this year. __________________ "The good news is that I'm designing the perfect detector. The bad news is that almost nobody will like it." Now that's a quote to ponder. Hopefully it's Dave's way of saying that it will not be a detector which the average detector enthusiast will like, perhaps because it will be tightly focused on a particular "job to be done"? If that's the case, hopefully the job it is focused on doing is the job this forum is about.
  19. Is Kellyco the only Nokta dealer????? I'm trying to locate one closer to me ...California area...
  20. Charles L. Garrett —inventor, entrepreneur, treasure hunter, patriot, husband, and father—died on April 3, 2015. A native Texan and resident of Garland, Dr. Garrett and his wife Eleanor in 1964 founded Garrett Electronics which grew to become the world’s largest manufacturer of metal detection equipment. Garrett detectors have discovered some of the world’s most valuable buried treasures, and its security equipment has protected millions of travelers and others, including Olympic athletes and spectators at the Games since 1984. Dr. Garrett was born in Houston on April 1, 1932, and grew up in Lufkin. After four years of service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict on board the USS Bottineau (APA-235), he graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont with a degree in electrical engineering. A lifelong treasure-hunting hobbyist, Dr. Garrett first developed a metal detector for his own use and because it was so much superior to others, he and his wife founded a company to sell it. He pioneered the development of the modern metal detector, demonstrated its capabilities searching for treasure throughout the world and devoted himself to teaching others to use detectors. He discovered treasure with metal detectors of his own design on every continent except Antarctica, and he also scanned under lakes, seas and oceans of the world. Many of the treasures and relics he discovered are displayed in the Garrett Museum at the company’s factory in Garland. In 1984 the company also began to manufacture walk-through and hand-held security detectors, including the famed Super Scanner®, the world’s most popular hand-held detector, and revolutionary new walk-through units. As a patriotic American, Dr. Garrett generously donated his company’s equipment for numerous projects where metal detection equipment was required, including many of the Olympic Games. He authored some 20 books and wrote literally scores of articles about metal detectors, treasure hunting on both land and under water and security. Many of his books remain in print. Today, the name Garrett stands as a worldwide synonym for treasure hunting and security metal detectors. Charles himself has been called the Grand Master Hunter. Along the way, he also became recognized as an unofficial spokesman for the hobby of treasure hunting and the metal detecting industry through a long list of honors, personal appearances, books and articles. U.S. Representative Sam Johnson visited the Garrett factory in February 2010 to read and present to Dr. Garrett a copy of the Congressional Record in which he acknowledged the quality and determination of Garrett’s American-made products. Charles and Eleanor Garrett have been generous contributors to Lamar University and her alma mater, Sam Houston State University. Both have been granted honorary doctor’s degrees from these schools. Charles Garrett was presented with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during Lamar’s spring commencement ceremonies in May 2011. The Charles and Eleanor Garrett Engineering Center was dedicated at Lamar University in April 2012. Dr. Garrett was an Eagle Scout and an inductee into Eta Kappa Nu, the national Electrical and Computer Engineering honor society. In 2004, Governor Rick Perry commissioned Charles Garrett as an honorary Admiral in the Texas Navy. He was also a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and was a Distinguished Alumni of both Lufkin High School and Lamar University. Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Eleanor; three children, Charles Lewis Garrett, Jr., Deirdre Lynne Garrett Hasselbach and her husband Timothy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Vaughan Lamar Garrett, his wife, Angela, and their two children, David and Sydney. Dr. Garrett was a member of the Saturn Road Church of Christ. Dr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne L. and Stella Barber Garrett; and his brothers, George Wayne Garrett and Donald Bert Garrett. Visitation will be at Sparkman Crane Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, April 10, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Orchard Hills Baptist Church in Garland, Texas, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 12, at Calvary Cemetery in Trinity County, Texas, east of Crockett on FM 357. In lieu of flowers, anyone desiring to make a donation can do so in memory of Charles Garrett to: Lamar University Foundation, P.O. Box 11500, Beaumont, Texas, 77710. http://www.garrett.com/charles_garrett_memoriam.aspx
  21. I just learned of the passing of Dr. Charles L Garrett today. What a great man. He will be missed! Mike
  22. Hi All Don't know if this has been posted here before. Its a bit of fun. The idea is find all the good stuff and no junk. And then you progress to the next field and I believe can enter your score on a leader board. Find the target, pinpoint it and click on the clicky thing on your mouse. Me and my Etrac havent got past the first field yet. Its kinda addictive tho. Heres the link. http://www.metaldetectorgame.com/gameus/?lang=en Cheers Trev
