  1. I thought I had joined this forum some time ago, but the the pandemic hit and I pretty much lost all sense of time, so here we are. I've been detecting and gold panning/prospecting and general rock-hounding since the mid 1980's. I lived in Northern California in what we affectionately called the "Nevada Panhandle" while in the military. Explored much of the desert and forests of the region and otherwise had a blast in all the open and wild spaces. Moved back to the Midwest in the 90's where activities have been mostly metal detecting, but I do have an interest in drift diamonds. Got a Fisher CZ-20 in the late 90's so I eventually took up SCUBA diving. I currently live near Mineral Point, Wisconsin where lead was discovered in 1828. There are lots of old tailing piles around and I occasionally dig around in them. Detecting wise, I focus on old home sites and farms. A few times a year I go into towns and hit the parks or fair grounds, but mostly try to find undetected locations (yes, they do exist!). I bought a really nice beach scoop in February of 2020 with ambitious plans, but you can guess how that worked out... I currently use an Equinox 800 as my primary detector, but have/have used detectors from Fisher, White's, and Tesoro. Finally, my forum name in case anyone was wondering: I currently work in environmental restoration on grasslands and savanna and use prescribed fire as one of my restoration tools. I figure if I ever started a band, the name would be "Johnny Phoenix and the Fires Starters". This longstanding joke has led to my on-line alter-ego as Johnny Phoenix, who's way cooler than I'll ever be. JP
  2. Hello to all, I am somewhat new to metal detecting. Just purchased 2 new detectors 1 for me and other for wife or back up. Looking to meet and learn.
  3. I've been lurking for a few years, thought it was time to join. Started detecting in the mid 70's after I got out of the Army. And of course life a a few wives got in the way so the detectors stayed in the closet until I retired in 2016. Since then I've tried and owned several detectors from the Notka fors for gold, fisher gold bug, whites 24k. nox 800, GM1000, and of course my favorite the deus. If you haven't guess by now I've done a little prospecting, started in the early 1980's while I was living in Las Vegas, a one eyed prospector named Charlie got me started. Like many old guys I have problems, one of which is my shoulder, so because of the weight, most of the detectors have found a new home. I still have the Deus and GM1000. The Deus I use in parks, tried it and the ORX for prospecting but found they do not like the Arizona desert, some how dust finds it way under the screen and the screen goes haywire, rolling from one program to another. (High pressure air hose solves the problem) The GM100 is fine, but I hate the shaft. Bob
  4. Hello! Just throwing out a feeler if any reputable members here in said vicinity might be interested in meeting up for some detecting this week. I’m staying in the Oroville area and attending some short meetings in Sacramento until heading home Sunday morning. Shoot me a message if there’s any interest in connecting! Thanks!
  5. I just recently regained my interest in metal detecting after 3yr break I did mostly schools and parks so got to thinking about a new detector upgrade from my HF9 and BH tracker IV to possibly a BH Time Ranger Pro? No decision made just yet as im still in search of reviews and info thats what led me to detectorprospector.com
  6. Hello Guys, I’m Riccardo and write from Italy. Have been following this forum since years and love it. Have had many detectors but unfortunately can’t do prospecting because in this area there are no nuggets. Have had pulse inductions as well and that’s why I discovered this forum. Thanks for the opportunity to write in this great forum and to learn. Bye for now guys! Riccardo
  7. New to forum, but been detecting for years.
  8. Hello everyone I am diggin dude (Andy) from treasurenet and Tarsacci forums. Thought I’d join this forum since I recognized other members from the other two forums on here. I’m not a heavy poster of my finds unless it’s something out of the ordinary or rare. I like to read the technical information about metal detectors and help out where I can with those subjects. I currently use XP Deus and Tarsacci metal detectors and preordered XP Deus II My favorite finds: 50BC Celtic gold quarter stater (UK). 1910 USA five dollar gold coin, 1662 Oak Tree twopence, various American Revolution uniform buttons.
  9. Hello and thank you for accepting me. My name is John, I hunt mostly in Connecticut. I am mostly a colonial relic/coin hunter the past year or so. Before that I was a silver shooter, and I still do from time to time. Looking forward to meeting others here.
  10. Great to find this forum and site! I'm Jim retired US military living in tropical Japan in the Ryukyuan island chain. Love to do all sorts of detecting especially beach hunting, and I like to hop on a flight to try other countries. Mostly use the CTX and the XP Deus for the adventures. Looking forward to sharing in these forums.
  11. Hello, I'm up in Summit and Grand counties. There's gold up here they say! I've done some md but I will have a lot to learn, I have a whites XLT, but I just ordered an XP deus 2! should be fun! Dave
  12. Hello everyone, I'm a Minelab user from Kansas. It's a pleasure to get to join up and contribute to conversations and posts here on detectorprospector. I hope that everyone is ready to have an amazing metal detecting year in 2022!
  13. From northern central Ohio moving to Alabama soon. Thanks and God Bless
  14. Hello and thanks for the add. I have a few different detectors and have been at it since the 70's. I joined this forum to get more information regarding my Whites TDI Beach Hunter. I've noticed a few conversations about them here. I look forward to talking with you!
  15. Hi all coming from Essex UK. I'm most likely to be found on the beach/mud with the longest pier in the world. atb Neil
  16. Hi all thank you for adding me, i am a Deus 2 user for the record i am not a tester I've used various machines over many years for the last 11 years mainly the Deus 1.
  17. Hi all, just a quick introduction, I’m Gary and I have been detecting mostly in Florida just north of the Treasure coast since the 70s, mostly beach because of convenience, but also love just about any other kind of treasure hunting and detecting, including relic hunting, old homesteads, yards, parks, and bottle digging. Even done a little prospecting a few times when opportunity knocked. I’ve owned more detectors over the years than I can count from most all the manufacturers over the years, but don’t collect them, I’ll use them and move on. I currently have only 5 - Minelab Equinox, Troy X3, 2 Tarsacci’s and an Aquasound (not counting my two wall hangers - my first detectors, a Whites Goldmaster and a Garrett BFO). Happy Hunting!
  18. Minelab Equinox User mostly, my friend told me about this forum looking to prospect gold with it and for tips. Thanks for the add, look forward to learning more about this machine.
  19. I have browsed & ‘lurked’ around this site for a while now as it has become my ‘go to’ detecting magazine & forum! So I signed up today and looking forward to hanging out.with y’all. I have used Garrett Land & Sea but recently moved into an Equinox 800 w/ the Minelab Coils plus Coiltek NOX 5x10 and a NOX 15. I gave my grandson the Garrett L&S as it is an excellent ‘dig everything’ PI detector. It needs a strong back to swing… IMHO, the NOX 800 is a ‘top drawer’ detector that does what Minelab claims with authority. See y’all around town, Billy
  20. Greetings everybody. New to this forum, but not to MD’ing. I moved back to my home state of Colorado after retiring from the military. It’s not really a MD friendly city I live in, so I’m looking to travel around the state around the US lookin for loot. I look forward to conversing with you all.
  21. Hello everyone. New to this forum, but i wandering around with beeping stick for a few years. Love detecting woods, fields and pasture, especially swamps and other "soil problematic" places. Hate parks and beaches, mostly because of modern thrash. Awful places for detecting.
  22. Good day all, I'm Brian, but go by Zincoln. I'm usually found in Oregon, but occasionally make my way to Nevada or neighboring states. I already know a number of you on here. Not new to detecting as I've been quite active most of the last decade, but new to this forum. I usually swing my assortment of White's equipment and have a strong bond w/ my V3i, but recently brought the Deus into the mix and I find it similar and pleasant to swing. Looking forward to getting to know more of you and always appreciate seeing what is being found to generate a little motivation! HH and keep warm! Zincoln
  23. What we call the Panhandle now a days, or the Golden Spread. You know the western skies, the wide open spaces, the be there by morning destination. I was a meager lurker now i am a meager member. Very informative forum. Howdy.
  24. Well, it's that time of year again, some of us will be having new detectors as presents under the tree, one of the various new detectors to hit the market recently or perhaps an IOU for the ones that didn't quite make it in time. I look forward to hearing how you all go with them. No detectors under the tree for me unfortunately, although I wouldn't mind if Santa sneaked in a last minute GPX 6000 or XP Deus II for me. He's a bit of a hero of mine, what kinda guy lands a job that he only has to work one day a year! I like that, I like that a lot, that's a job I'd do so perhaps when he retires I might apply for that one. He's surely getting on in the years, getting down those chimneys can't be too easy for him these days. You may think I'm a bit early, but I'm not, it's now 7pm on Christmas eve in NZ and by the time most of the Americans read this post when they wake up in the morning Christmas will be well and truly underway in NZ, we are the first country in the world to reach the big day, Santa's first stop! Something kids love, it's always exciting for a kid to find out they're the first kids in the world to get presents from the big guy in red. For those heading off on detecting adventures on their Christmas break, I wish you luck! Hopefully you find your desired targets. For me that'll be a bit of sluicing and plenty of detecting, I've got my GPZ, Nox 800 and Garrett 24k on charge ready to go, fingers crossed I come away with a few chunks. Enjoy your Christmas everyone.
  25. Merry Christmas to all of You and Your families from Europe 🙏 Skull🤿
