  1. Need help selecting a MD to buy. So far CZ-21 and the Equinox 800 are two I am considering. Hope to get advice on how to get one that best meets my needs and I am not limiting choices to these two. I am an experience diver but don't usually go deeper than 33 feet. The CZ-21 can easily do that but my research makes me think the 800 is a more advanced machine. I am not kidding myself about a learning curve for either of these choices. If it was not for COVID-19 I would be on my catamaran cruising in the Bahamas, or maybe down island. As it is I am limited to beaches in the Big Bend of Florida and the spring fed fresh water rivers. There are also lots of historic places I kayak and hike to. Any advice on the pros and cons of those two choices; but I have to say the claimed max 10 foot water proof limit on the 800 is almost a deal breaker. I know Excilabur has a nice model as well that goes deep. Thing is I really like the display on the 800 and wish it could go another 20 feet deeper; it would be a no brainer. Bottom line is I am still confused about what to buy to put on my boat.
  2. Hello all..My name is David Ogle and I own River Team Six Metal Detectors. Looking forward to getting on the forums and posting some finds and used equipment on classifieds.
  3. I'm really happy to be a member of such an interesting community. Recently, I bought a detector which will help me to discover this art.
  4. Hello, recently I've been given some of my Uncle's things that he used while prospecting in California from the 1970's until about 1995 in the motherlode area, I only panned as a child and observed stream dregding so this is all new to me. I received an E-Z Pickins dry vac back pack. It's missing a few things so it needs work, but it has a manual of 27 pages in fairly decent shape. If anyone wants a copy I'm willing to make them one cost of materials and a small processing fee for my time. I have a copy of Dry Washing for Gold thats 81 pages if anyone is searching for that publication. Thank you.
  5. Hello! my name is Xabi, I just got recommended this forum and here I am. I come from the north of Spain, Basque Country. I am an enthusiast just like you. Also as a part time hobby since my job is design engineer, I design and 3dprint some accessories for metal detectors, which I may post if It is not considered spam. Hoping to meet people around the world here and learn some interesting stuff about MD. Regards, Xabi
  6. Am in N. Central Tx. and am currently using a MXT that is a number of years old. I will be asking about the newer models in the near future. Anyway, howdy to all.
  7. I have not been detecting in years but want to get back into it. In late 1980's I purchased a Garrett Groundhog and had lots of success with it. I am thinking that detector is out of date now and have been looking at others in the mid price range. I have kind of decided it will not be a Garrett this time and was looking at the Nokta Makro Anfibio multi but have kind of decided on the Minelab Equinox 800. I do like the sound of the Equinox way better than the other 2. Looking for info from people on here, would this be a good choice? Anyone have any different suggestions? I have done all my research online as here in Rural South Dakota there is no dealers or shops. Thanks!!
  8. Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a Minelab GPX 4500 that I've inherited from my uncle so I'm trying to learn everything about it. It is missing a few pieces so I'm trying to get it into operational order. It is currently missing the battery, the power cable and the charger, and only has one 18x12" Coiltek Goldstalker mono coil. Any tips/tricks/and suggestion will be appreciated since I don't know anything about the machine. Thank you.
  9. I have been on here gathering information for my nox 800. After seeing all the information, decided to join! I have my sister (unfortunately with all this loss) going on, I bought her the vanquish 540 pack. Trying to give her some freedom time. Needless to say we are a few hrs from Galveston. Hoping to go this Thursday and give her some hope in finding something. Great seeing everyone giving information and help on here. Thanks Steve for this forum! Mike in Texas
  10. Hello everyone, I'm from Java, Indonesia. I started my metal detecting journey since last year because I love history and gold. I own Garrett AT Max, Minelab Equinox 800 and waiting for the new Nokta Gold Kruzer. Cheers, JRH
  11. Im Rick from Michigan, I'm getting back into detectors after about a 10 year pause.... I had a Minelab Safari that I sold , I just recently purchased a preowned E-trac with some extras . Im waiting on it to hit the door. So needless to say I have to get back into the swing of things.... I still need a pointer deciding on which and some smalls That I will need......I will be reading and asking a lot of questions....Rick
  12. Hello, I'm a total noobie and will try and not embarrass myself with stupid questions. I haven't made a detector purchase yet but hope to soon. I've read lots of reviews and watched tons of videos, but wonder how all those machines actually work where I live. I'm totally open to suggestions from anyone, but especially those of you in northern Nevada. Thank you!
  13. Hey everyone, Just arrived! Looking forward to getting involved. Been dirtfishing for 20+ years. Can't remember exactly how I got started. Glad I did though. Started my own website recently about metal detecting. Not going to share it here because I don't know the rules about linking just yet. Don't want to get banned on my first day.
  14. Hey All, Vancouver Island resident here. Been interested in gold for decades ever since working for BLM in eastern Oregon mapping soils and veg types and seeing fine gold in soil south west of Baker. I was told there is a million dollars in gold in the soil on that hill and it wouldn't cost a dime over 10 million to get it out. Who knows if that was true or not but it sure sparked some interest that has lain quasi dormant since then. And then there is the mine close to Baker with lots a gold they say but full a water - too much to pump as it was tried. Yes I am dual US/Canadian citizen and I have lived in Montana Washington Oregon California Alberta and now BC. I have been all over parts of these states/provinces as my background is natural resources forestry and range. I'm also interested in geology and am fascinated by the lake Missoula floods and even the likely theory that the Colorado River once drained into Davis strait off the west coast of Greenland. Sediments apparently say so. All that said I often wonder how much gold is still out there in places maybe not detected based on large scale geologic events? For example could there be gold from the Rockies at dry falls which some estimates say had as much water flowing over it as all the fresh water rivers on earth today? I see all this as a fascinating puzzle and gold as part of it. So I am thinking as I near retirement to add detecting to my list of stuff to spend money on. Course it'll compete with lever action rifles and guitars and photography my other main vices. As you can guess my interest in detecting is about 2/3 gold 1/3 coins jewelry etc. I do have my eyes on one of two detectors NOX and ORX but definitely not based on any real world experience of any kind. Much more expensive than those not currently in my budget. I look forward to participating here. -Ed-
  15. I have been on the forum since June 2018 but mostly reading other's posts. Lots of good people on this forum. I have learned it is a good place to learn because most on this forum know what they are talking about. Used an AT Pro for 3 years and bought a Nox 800 in March 2018. What a learning curve. I now have a Vanquish 540 with the 12" and 8" coil on order. I tried the Simplex+ but too different from the Nox 800 so sold it for only that reason. It is a good machine. The Vanquish will come with little or no learning curve for an Equinox user. The steep 800 learning curve was enough for me in one lifetime. My main interest is research and hunting for Civil War relics which are still available if you do your research around Atlanta and north of Atlanta up to Chattanooga.
  16. Been on the forum for a good amount of time. Looking for a little help on finding land for lease on claims. Walking into this blind without any knowledge or help has been hindering for me. Any kind of help with permitting process and leasing process would be of great help. My dad has always been around to help with gear and grunt work but lacks the patience of the books part. That’s about all I got...
  17. Hi Everyone, I'm into gold panning/rockhounding as well as electronics and have lately been looking to combine the two hobbies in a homebuilt detecting unit. I'm just getting started but it's super fun so far. Looking forward to getting to know people on here! Cheers!
  18. I belong to some other forums for metal detecting. This is by far the best one I have ever joined for NOX info Thanks
  19. Steve does a fantastic job with this forum in my opinion. I am members of 3 other popular metal detecting forums. For some reason Steve seems to attract some of the best members that are very helpful and polite.I will not criticize other forums because they are just different, not bad.
  20. Hello. Im new to the forum. I just wanted to say hi. Im from Utah obviously. I have a Wife and a son and a nother little one on the way. The wife doesn't like prospecting that much. But she agreed if I Got her a metal detector shed run the beeper and I could dig. I figured once she starts finding things she'll be far happier and enjoy it far more. We bought the Nox 800 cause I wanted something that i could prospect with. And she wants something she can dig up old coins and jewelry. So we found the best combination. One of the best detectors around in the price range from our research. Gerry from Gerry's detectors told me about this place when I bought a new Equinox 800 from him. He told me this is the place to come to learn and be able to ask questions. He set me out with my first mission. 5 quarters, nickles dimes and Penny's as well as nails. Just to learn the machine. And i bought the swingy thing from Doc to help my wife's back. We just found out she's pregnant and she's going to want something to help her. Doc is awesome and another great help just talking to him for a few minutes he went over a few things to help us out.
  21. Hello from Chicago! I'm Blue and I just started metal detecting last December and it's been great. I'm still learning a lot about my machines and having a grand time with them. Unfortunately, it's not going too great outside right now so I guess it's the best time to do research for new spots. πŸ™‚πŸ™ƒ Just wanted to stop by and say hi to everyone!
  22. Just out of work at the moment because of all this Corona Virus stuff. I bought a detector to get me out of the house and I figured outdoors, good exorcise, and sun. Just me and my detector and hopefully some silver and a few gold nuggets. Away from all the Corona crowds.
  23. Yes, what away for an introduction...Jetco Mustang, Jeeze. I started metal detecting in 1971 when my dad finally gave in and bought me a Jetco Treasure Hawk for my 11th Birthday. I actually wore small holes in the bottom of the coil. I was hooked. Traded to a Garrett TR in 1973-74 & kept upgrading. I actually made a career using metal detectors, partially anyway, working for the City of Fort Worth Water Dept. for 31yrs. 17yrs. as a Supervisor. I first learned how to use the Gemini II back in early 80's. Tracing lines inductively/conductively & also using as a two box unit locating MH's & water valves etc. I actually located an old 24" cast iron main laid in the 1920's near downtown with a backhoe standing by...The main was a bit over 14' deep. It took a while, but I had it dead on. Anyhoo...enough of that, I was given an old Jetco Mustang in 1991 & it has been hanging in my garage ever since, never paid much attention to it until recently. I put a new 9V battery in & it actually works! However the tuner needs a good cleaning. I completely broke down the old unit except for the circuit board. The single knob on the Mustang secures board to upper housing & I got the nut loose with no issues, however, I cannot get the black plastic knob off the plastic spline? No set screw is visible & I have cleaned & lubed the spline area. I am wondering if there is a set screw under the top decal of the knob? I just don't won't to damage or mar this old vintage unit. Any help would surely be appreciated. I have read Steve's articles & reviews over the years & they are absolutely informative & helpful. Thanks to all! cowtownkid
