  1. Fairly new to treasure hunting/metal detecting. Have had an old Garrett and Bounty hunter but never really messed with them. Then I stumbled onto a Tesoro Compadre. Bought it over the internet rather cheaply. What a piece of junk I thought as I took it out of the box. WRONG!!!!!! I've found more with it than everything combined. It talked me into a big brother so I picked up a Vaquero, which I'm still learning. Didn't ever think I'd get excited over a chunk of scrap in the dirt but here I am.😊
  2. In the early 80s got into underwater suction dredging in No. Cal. mostly in the Sierra's , towards the end early 90s I picked up a detector , a Garrett , was just getting use to it at parks and got out of Cal. back to MN . Kept telling my self I was going to get back to Cal. to mine again , but then Cal. banned dredging , took a lot of motivation out of it . But I did find a great metal detector store in the area Metal detectors of Minneapolis , and the owner had a lot of knowledge , and I bought a bunch of detectors including pin pointer , a couple of Whites machines one of the bigger general detectors , and a gold machine , then a diving unit from Fisher and another I do not remember . Manly went around parks & beaches with my German Sheppard - that way we both got a good walk in 😉 Then a couple yrs. ago had a fire , lost all detectors and or about $250,000 in tools & equipment . Now also on disability , and Gillie - the dog ran into the end about 13 yrs. / starting to sound like a country western song 😉 Well bought a Minelab Equinox 800 from the same shop , dang I stopped by and he had a used one with 2 1/2 yrs. of warrantee left for $700 , I went home to get my saved coin stash about $500 and more stashes and when I got back to the store , the used unit was sold , but he did have a new one in stock . A couple weeks later I went back to get a pin pointer , we both agreed that that the Garrett Pro AT was what I wanted , hay it was on sale too 😉 Now taking a friends boat to FL , I'm not into fishing & throwing back - I'm a catch & eat kind of guy 😉 This will be my 1st salty beach doin . Oh and we were going to go looking for the bermuda triangle and look for lost stuff - dang the Equinox only goes 10' deep .
  3. I live near the Bohemian Mining District, hence the handle “Bomemia Miner. The area was named after an outlaw miner known as Bohemia john. I have been prospecting since 1999. I started metal detecting shortly after that and then started working in the industry in 2005. The late Jim Straight was my good friend and mentor. I currently own a Tesoro Compadre with 5” coil for the kids. An Equinox 800 and the TDI High-Q. I love the latter for its lighter weight. I’ve had problems with arthritis in my thumbs and wrists. After corrective surgery, I still can’t handle the six-pound (without the battery) detectors such as the Minelab (PI) Super Detectors, as they used to be called or the Garrett ATX. I also love the fact that I can run the gain at full throttle and still have a quiet threshold. My Pin Pointer of choice is the White’s TRX although I have a Coiltek in-line probe that will work on the TDI. I’d also like to get a Gold Bug Pro for a back and loaner detector. I look forward to reading everyone’s posts and being able to reply and contribute some of the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years. But most importantly, I’m here to learn. Thank you, Steve for creating this forum and allowing me to become a part of it. Walt Evens
  4. Hi ya'll.... I got into gold prospecting in 2003, bought a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II. Never really used it much, until 2006, we moved into an old farm house, and then not very much. Fast forward to 2016, I became disabled and was bored sitting around the house, so broke out my Bounty Hunter. I found a few interesting things, then in May 2019, I got a White's MX7, loving it so far...my problem is I haven't had any luck getting permissions, mostly finding the right person to talk to....I would love to go to a Civil War sight, especially in my neck of the woods, or old mill site, there are a lot around...another problem is, I can only hunt between an hour, to two hours and have to stop. Still lovin' it though, it got me to reading up on history in my town, found some really cool info.
  5. Hi all, thought I'd better sign up for an account as I've been lurking for too long! The technical discussions in the Equinox subforum keep me coming back, always interesting to see what new ideas people are coming up with to get the most out of their machines. I've mostly been coin and relic hunting for the two years I've been into detecting, and luckily have some unique permissions in an 1860's gold mining town that enable me to get onto what I think are some really interesting finds. The area's not really known for detectable gold so it's escaped a real hammering until I've got my hands on it! The soil's crazy mineralised so it's been a challenge to find settings that work, every time I change a parameter more finds leap out of ground that I've slammed before. My favourite finds are the chunky copper pre-1860 Victoria pennies and 1850's trader's tokens, I think they even edge out big silver for me...
  6. Hi guys, my name is Cristian, I'm from Argentina, my detector is a Garret AT Gold, I use it to search for gold nuggets in the Andes mountain range. I have very good results with very small, tiny nuggets, but I think I'm losing some depth, I compared it to the Garrett AT Max and apparently it has a little more depth but not so much sensitivity to small nuggets. I want to change the AT Gold for another detector that gains depth in larger gold (2gr, 5gr, 10gr etc). Do you offer me minelab equinox 800, makro gold kruzer, goldmaster 24K, xp orx, which recommend me to have greater depth in large or acceptable nuggets and not lose much effectiveness in small nuggets? I found the gold nugget in my hand with the AT MAX at 20-25cm, with the AT GOLD I had no signal I leave some photos to see the gold that took out the AT gold. regards p / d: sorry for my english, I used google: D
  7. Goodaye im new from WA been outback exploration 40 years and now prospecting, still lots to learn here 🙃
  8. I just moved back to my home state of Texas, Lago Vista, to be exact. I'm 20 minutes from Leander, 40 from Georgetown, 30 from Marble Falls. I've been hunting on and off for 30 years now. My interests are old coin, relics, shallow water hunting. I'd drive 2 hours one way to hunt if need be, thanks.

  11. Hi everyone! Just met our admin guy...Steve while on a detecting trip in the UK so I thought I'd join in here. Been hunting about 12 years now. Living in Fl I mostly do beach hunting these days but I"m a dirt digger at heart. I use an excal in the water and the Nox in wet sand and dirt. I travel lots and my machines always go with me. I'm obsessed! Happy hunting to all!
  12. Hello 🙂 I'm Sam from Tasmania, Australia. I'm new to all of this and I had a children's metal detector when I was bout 9 years of age and loved the thrill of it. Now being 26 after all these years the passion to metal detect is still strong yet I haven't since being a young child. I've done literally about 30+ hours of research into metal detectors, highbanker, dredge set ups etc. I'm going to focus at the moment on my first purchase being a metal detector. After much research. I've decided to proceed with the NOKTA MAKRO SIMPLEX + (with wireless headphones) - $629 AUD ( I can afterpay this - how exciting ). I plan to use this for everything except gold hunting. Soon as well after as mentioned much research, I'm falling towards to the QED PL2 ($1950 AUD). This detector just had a new update and reading reviews from different forums are mind blowing the price for this pi machine. It's best for my budget I've decided with the Detech 11" Ultra Sensing Coil then I will when I learn the device have an addition large search coil being a 18".. undecided but I don't need to worry about this yet! DD coils are now able to be used on QED PL2 so will have to do research on coils. Anyways, Just wanted to say hello and you'll be hearing plenty from me as my future kicks off with this as I've chosen to not work at the present moment for an employer I will be spending much time prospecting and soon will have a GO PRO HERO 8. I have a friend here near me with a GPX 5000 so I will run some comparisons with SIMPLEX + and also eventually the QED set up if I proceed with that unless I decide to get the GPX 4500 used for about $3500 AUD. DECISIONS!!! Much love 😉 Sam
  13. Hi all, just got my Equinox 600,looking forward to upgrading from my Bounty Hunter LRP.
  14. Hi All, I have been trawling this site for a number of months and figured it was about time I started contributing what I can! (which is not much at this stage). I have equipped myself with an Equinox 800 and hope to be able to make the most of it! Focus will be on relics/coins/jewellery for now with a goal of heading into some gold country. Not sure the equinox will handle the hot earth of the Goldfields so there may be further acquisitions before a trip to the Goldfields. I'm enjoying hunting the parks at the moment so i'll stick with that. Thanks for all the information so far! Cheers all
  15. Hi everyone, I decided I wanted to get into the hobby of metal detecting so I recently went out and bought an Equinox 800 from my nearest local metal detecting dealer, was still an hour long drive lol, but it was worth it and the shop owner was very knowledgeable and helpful in helping me select a detector. So I'm about as fresh of a novice as it gets. I've been scouring the internet for tips and suggestions on the this hobby and have learned quite a bit. While searching I came across this forum and thought it would be a great idea to join and see what else I could learn from others in the hobby. In the couple of weeks that I've had my detector I've been out a few times and have started getting used to the machine. I have also upgraded the shaft on the detector and have gotten myself a pinpointer as well. I've been using a small shovel that was in the shed and have also bought a sand scoop. As for finds, I have found mostly trash, some modern coins, a bent half dollar, a zippo lighter, and a couple bullets. It's been a lot of fun so far and I'm glad I got into this hobby. Any advice is much appreciated and hopefully I can contribute to this forum too. Luv863
  16. Hi all. Been lurking a while now, and thought it was about time I Joined up. Tend not to post a great deal on forums, as having read threads of interest to me, I realise how much time has passed, and get back to work Using my trusty T2 (version 6.0) on mainly arable and pasture. Generally fly solo, but occaisionally join up with a local Facebook group for the odd dig. Many thanks to Steve for sorting my account. Jerry.
  17. Ola Amigos! Just wanted to introduce my self. I'm a surfer who usually MD in the summer because the waves go flat where I live in Santa Barbara. This summer I got an Equinox 800 and have been pretty stoked using around town and on the beaches. I've found some cool stuff. The oldest coin is a 1890 Indian head penny in a vacant lot downtown Santa Barbara. And a nice vintage silver ring missing the center diamond but has two diamonds on each of the sides. Anyways I never see anyone MD in Santa Barbara and just wanted to say Hi! Thanks History Surfer
  18. Upstate NY, Albany area. I have been detecting for years, relic mostly. (my Interest) Been doing a lot of reading on prospecting with a detector, panning, mining lately. I would love to look for those tiny nuggets with my detector and even though I live in NYS, I just may. It's the hunt that counts, right.... Anyway, I can keep on reading and dreaming. GREAT pages here and glad to be a part. Thanks PS, having a hard time to get my wife to agree to retire in Arizona, she's a mid Atlantic coast kinda girl. Oh well.
  19. Hi, I'm a Californian & newbie to prospecting & metal detecting. I'm working on a metal detector that I've designed and am looking forward to testing it out in the wilderness. I found this awesome forum while searching for info on geology.
  20. Hello Everyone Scott Ellis here, known as IRON MASK around other forums and detecting events. I run the minelabowners forum and I am the designer for the "Detecting-Innovations" "Tele-Knox" telescopic shaft for the Equinox. I am Canadian however I have been in Europe for 19 years and I have been detecting since 2010, currently own and Equinox 800 and a "dusty" CTX. I have some of my finds featured in the Equinox Handbook by Andy Sabisch. One of my best finds is a silver Roman Seal matrix that is now in a museum in Croatia. My oldest find is a piece of pottery from the Neolithic period and was a surface find. The season is just getting underway for us here in Europe and I hope to have time to get out and find the goodies. Good luck and happy hunting to all.
  21. Hi, Tony Hunt here from the lovely History rich county of Dorset in Southern UK. My passion for Metal Detecting started some 25+ years ago, pretty much 99% using all the different Minelab machines that were suitable for Coin & Relic Hunting. I own an XP Deus but never really took to it other than to use it in fluffy cultivated soils occasionally where my Minelabs aren't so happy. I currently run two Equinox 800s, Standard coil on one and the 15" on the other. Some of you in the states may know me from mentions in Andy Sabisch's user manuals over the years, Explorer, Etrac, CTX and now Equinox. I have been involved along with my son Paul in finding three Caches / hoardes of coins of note plus quite a few coin spills and purse drops. My latest cache found just over a year ago with the Equinox was a clay pot that was intact and filled with over 1850 Roman Bronze coins from around the year 275AD. This find is now with the british Museum awaiting valuation and probably eventual sale to our local Salisbury Museum, the city where I found it nearby. I have recently started a company called Detecting-Innovations. We manufacture and supply the Tele- Knox , the only Telescopic Carbon Fibre stem available at present to fit the Equinox.
  22. I am new to this forum and wanted to drop a line and say thanks for having me. I am newer to the hobby due to military service and have started back up recently with a Nox800 that I purchased from Gerry in Idaho, who is by far the best dealer around and he is super helpful. I will definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a new machine. Is there anyone else on here from Utah? Specifically the Utah County area that might want to do some detecting?
  23. Been doing MDing a long time with a Whites XLT. Just purchased a Equinox 800 and WOW!!, What a difference! Still carry the XLT as my back up. Love that Tool as well. Well,....Just wanted to say Hi.
  24. Hello, I have been beeping since the end of 2012. I come to learn and share what i can, i have found a little gold, some meteorites and coins.
