  1. Hi everyone I'm Rob I currently have the Nokta Legend and a Garrett AT Pro. I live and work in Portsmouth in the UK, I have only been detecting for 5 months but the bug has bitten me hard. I'm a member of a couple of groups and go out on digs most weekends.
  2. Hey All My Name is Ciaran and I have been Metal detecting with various success for nearly 30 years. I focus primarily on Beach Detecting with the Minelab Equinox 800 but now giving the Nokta Legend a Shot. Looking forward to chatting with you all. Ciaran
  3. New member here. I'm in Covington Ga. Currently using Garry Ace 350 and the Nokta Legend.
  4. Greetings to all. I have just invested in a new Minelab Vanquish 540 + other kit after a decade of general wandering about casually fulfilling my twin interests of walking outdoors and history/archaeology with a second-hand Explorer XS. I'm very happy too: first time out in a field found the best horseshoe ever at 10" and a poor-quality English penny, probably 18th century, at a measured 14" down, both in the same field. But I'm not scientific-minded, so I wanted a forum where I could ask various questions, and you guys popped up in my search. I'll see if I can find an appropriate thread in which to ask my question, as hinted in your rules, but if anyone else lives near here, maybe they would get in touch. Kind regards, Jonnty
  5. Hello mates. Nice to be here. Hoping to learn & share.
  6. First detector in 1973? A Goldmaster TR. Beat that enamel off that shoebox size wonder for years. It paid for itself by the second year in finds. Many times over in rewards for returning lost items for which I never took. I know it still works, but in two home moves I still can't find the coil. It's here somewhere. I think I'll put up a pic of that TR when I have time. It may be 50 years old this month. Those were the days when you can sling around 10 pounds and not feel it. Today I get sore lifting three beers. 2nd detector is a Fisher Aquanaut 80 large coil circa 1985?. Fantastic as well, simple. Still the workhorse. Made like a safe. Now my newest toy is the Macro Legend. Delivered a month ago and been out only two times. Got a lot to learn and I'll be heading over to the legend thread and hopefully read everything first then ask stupid questions later. Well, not really, but I'll try not to. May be going out tomorrow if I can get up. Weird not using AA's, but it is waterproof to 10 feet. Which is fine for beaches up to your neck. But I always wanted a multi freq and this one came out at the right budget. I couldn't touch minelabs. Well, thought I'd just give a run down on my machines used and experience with them may help someone out. Stay safe everyone, hope to be a productive member on this forum.
  7. Hello everyone, Here I am again. Apparently Steve deleted me as he thought I was trying to advertise since I was engaging in to many topics at once on here. So pardon the re-post. BTW I lost all messages and posts so please re-post if you notice me My name is Jason and have swung different detectors since the mid 90's. All gold machines until just this year. Love the coins but just had hernia surgery here in San Diego and gettin heart ablation done in a week. So chomping at the bit to head somewhere cooler than the SoCal, AZ desert that I'm near and know best to find a little color and have some smiles and create some new memories. So I'm in need of some information for the NorCal, that I haven't been in the water since the 90's, or Northern Nevada that I not swung a detector over since my GP3500 back in 2008. California was always along the I-80 corridor. Mostly sniping the North Fork of the American with a little South Yuba here and there but all that mercury in that river!!!! A little sluicing too but no detecting at all as this was just prior to my first and sweetest sounding detector I've ever owned (And still do) , my Fisher Gold Bug 2. When I lived in Reno I often headed out to The Rye Patch area and beyond (Placeritas, Seven Troughs, Scossa, Poker Brown, etc). Not much else as I was too busy with work when I was there at that time. Also at this time I was armed with a very capable 99 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 on 33's and a stock 85 Toy 4Runner that went anywhere I dared. Now Im in the largest van know to man, A MB Sprinter 170 ext. It actually has very good clearance for such a mega vehicle and have off-roaded it more than most take their built jeeps but the bad turning radius, 10'2" height and especially 4' long tail really limits where I can go. SO!..... Where can I go now? I don't belong to any clubs. I'm really anxious to both snipe and detect the upper sierra's (This will be starting mid September if all goes well) and then probably head downstream towards the lower elevations of Cali or out into Nevada . Basically chase good weather and better gold. Van life for AU 22. Questions: 1.What rivers are open without claims now? 2. Can I still crevice with my Gold Bug 2 or ML Monster or should I get a SDC 2300 (It is foldable and waterproof) 3. Can you take an SDC 2300 completely underwater? I have a XP Deus 2 as well but doubt it can find small gold pickers in a crevice but sure it can find lead and nails and give me a starting point if that makes sense. 2.What hydraulic pits can I get to and are allowed to hunt in? 3.Anyone looking for company (Late Sept/October) Any info helps.
  8. Hello all. Jerry from Southern Kaliforniastan. Never been out before but I am excited to start. Been reading forums, researching awhile and thought I would take the plunge. I'm waiting for my Nokta Legend to arrive in the mail /w (6" coil / extra battery / Nokta pinpointer) . I have a friend that just purchased the Gold Bug 2 and another looking to purchase a used Gold Monster 1000. I live in the high desert, 30 minutes north of Los Angeles (91387 zip code) with LOTS of iron in the ground. Tons of dried up river beds and thousands of canyons/ravines. Mainly interested in hiking, looking for gold nuggets (if they exist here) Any suggestions where I can find maps/areas with known gold locations? Thanks, Jerry
  9. Looking for someone close to Brisbane , 4017 to help me get some parts off gumtree and post it to me. Huge reward available :)
  10. Hey all, I’ve been browsing Steve’s forums and like what I see. Great bunch of people and a Ton of information so I decide to join . Love the fact there is no drama here. Will try to contribute when I can and for now just wanted to say May the Detector Gods bring Gold and Silver your way on your next outing. HH, Don
  11. Hello, just found this site and joined. Am just another somewhat humble metal detectin' pilgrim.
  12. Just a quick pop in to say hi as I look for more information on the hobby I have found myself into. I've been wanting to for a while, and just finally took the plunge. Looking forward to soaking up as much knowledge as I can! Cheers, Charles
  13. My first and biggest thank you goes to the main man: Steve.. God should call him God for all the encouragement, inspiration and warm fuzzy feelings he bestows on us all.. Without his undying love for newbies I doubt this post would ever have been possible.. Thank you Steve, you make life worth living! All my other thank yous go to everyone else, you know who you are.. There will be huge celebrations for my 500th post in every metal detecting community on Earth, so make sure you join the festivities.. When I can't be there in person, I'll be video linked to huge screens set up in all your favourite detecting spots.. Dancing girls and free beer will keep the party rocking until my 501th post, then it'll be time to wrap things up and get back to the digging.. Until then, thank you all very much for the daily giggles and shared knowledge.. It's been a heck of a ride..
  14. Hello all. My brother is giving me his older metal detector. It is a White's MXT e series. Is this a good metal detector? Is it specifically good for prospecting certain types of coins? jewelry? I live on the coast and was planning to hobby prospect for valuables along the beach. Your opinion would be appreciated.
  15. I have been metal detecting since I was a teenager and to this day continue doing it. I was born and raised in Miami, FL and still live here. I also travel frequently to my property in Franklin, NC. I have a Minelab 800, CTX3030, and Garrett AT Pro. My preference is the CTX3030 (all coils) and usually download programs for it as it has proven reliable on beaches in Florida and relics in NC. Feel free to contact me if your in the areas I am. I am also interested in sluicing/highbanking for north of Florida; specifically GA, NC, and Tenn. Thanks to all that answer my questions.
  16. Hello i am Al Montano(poco is nick name) I am a 57 year old Male that was disabled when a drunk diver hit us head on! I have been dreaming for some time to be able to go back out and treasure hunting 🙂 I appreciate all the advice I can get! Thank you! I posted about what Detector to buy in the advice forums! Again thank you fellow Detectors 🙂
  17. Hello, I hope to learn and enjoy joinning this forum.
  18. Hi all, new to the forum. I've been snooping around northern Nevada for the last fourty years and detectoring for the last 10. I have enjoyed all of the guides/information here at detectorprospector and decided I should join in. Hope to add to the fun.
  19. Hi All, New member from Cranbrook BC, Canada. I'm a long time hand panner, and started running a Minelab GM1000 last year. I've been working on some friends claims up the Wild Horse River and Boulder Creek (the site of a large/famous gold rush in BC). One of the guys up here (Steve) was recently on Freddy Dodge's Gold Rush. Detecting wise, I haven't had much luck yet. The area's I am working (even though they are claimed) have been heavily worked before, and very likely previously detected. My little VLF isn't going very deep, unless the target is huge. I am wanting to upgrade to a better PI machine. Interesting things I've found include lots old square cut nails, and some some barbed rock wedges. Otherwise, lots of old timer trash, even more modern trash, pyrites, iron ore, and hot rocks galore.... Just thought I would introduce myself and say hello. Cheers, Nick
  20. Hi Everyone, My name is Mark and I've been prospecting for gold for a few years. I primarily do metal detecting but I also like dry washing. The learning curve for detecting has been a long one for me but I've eventually managed to find enough gold to pay for my first gold detector (a ML GPX 4500). As I live in Bagdad Arizona, I wonder if other members have had much success detecting in the Eureka District here. I detected my first gold nugget in a small feeder wash off of Cowboy Wash a few miles southeast of the Cowboy mine but other than that, I've not had much success in the district. I would be interested in hearing what others think about the area? I enjoy prospecting in areas like the Bradshaws and Gold Basin here in AZ and also like to do occasional trips over to the Dale District in Southern Cal. The Cargo Muchachos are a favorite as well. So good prospecting to everyone and try to stay safe out there.
  21. Hey all, newcomer here and to metal detecting. Just got my eq 600 2 days ago, high followed the first rain here in over 2 months and of course, it was a doozy. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like for a 10 yr old to get one of the coolest presents ever, but made to look at it for days, sitting there, mocking you…well if you want to know, I’m your guy. Anyway, anxious to learn all I can from yall’s experiences and knowledge of the science. Thanks!
  22. Hey all, been a member for a bit, but just lurked and read for the most part. the knowledge here has been a fantastic help! Just moved from California to SE Oklahoma. Hoping to run across a few others that enjoy the hobby within drivable hunting distances. seems like all the clubs i can find are 2+ hrs away! updated to the Equinox 800 about a year and a half ago, but haven't had the time recently (finding a place and then the move) to do much with it. things have settled now and I'm just starting to explore the 20 acres i live on now.
  23. Good morning to all the forum. I'm writing from Italy, precisely from the small Republic of San Marino, and I've been into metal for many years now, if it wasn't for the money I'd always be out in the mountains hunting for old irons from the past 😅! I've always wanted to be part of this forum because I've always found it quite reliable and serious, and above all there are people from all over the world, which makes it really perfect to discuss technical issues.
  24. Howdy 🙂 It's great to see this site is a rather active one. I hope to be of some contribution and I know for sure I'll learn a lot from many of you along the way. My main interest in metal detecting is for finding meteorites. I owned and operated a used White's Goldmaster V/Sat from 2011 to 2020 when it was stolen from my vehicle. So... I've been hunting for a replacement ever since. I'm a fairly active member on many of the meteorite Facebook groups and I'll be catching up on all the meteorite topics that have been discussed in this forum. I enjoy just swinging the detector and digging up all them good targets. A few of my more interesting earthly finds have been an 1899 Canadian 5 cent piece, a handmade copper earing of a wolf or coyote howling at the moon and a really nice blebby copper nugget. Happy to be here.
  25. Just a old Army guy here. Had a few of White's units. Only one now a Whites' V3i. Moved around. Now back home in Wisconsin for good.. gary
