I bought these headphones and used them in the ocean last week in the Kauai (up to my neck).The dealer is always busy or on a trip so I thought I'd throw this out there to get some feedback. I had a few instances where the audio cut out completely and I jiggled the cord and it came back. My question is, should the end of the headphone cord have an o-ring like a lot of my scuba equipment does? The EQ800 still seems to work fine so I don't believe any water made it's way inside detector. As to my success ..well let's just say I understand why my dealer goes to Cancun for his jewelry hunts and not where I went where the waves are 3,4,5 feet. I quickly looked for beaches with "breakwaters" that you can safely take children to and I did find lots of coins and 1 silver diamond ring..but man, it was still 'surgey' as heck and not easy to lift one foot up to push scoop into sand while keeping your balance! Anyone have any experience in using the EQ in the ocean? I saw online sand scoops with a "cross" handle (like on a small shovel) where when you scoop you can keep the scoop from twisting sideways...thoughts..usage?The scoop handle would have to be a "breakdown" type to be able to pack for air travel. The scoop I took has a straight shaft that easily turns sideways when scooping.

Got the tarsacci out today to get things charged up and redoing the zlink wires differently. I love the z link and Garrett headphones. But hate the connector that’s needed. Wish I could figure out something different for that. Will be in Culpeper in about 3 weeks for the DIV and will only be using the tarsacci there.

Hi all, I love my equinox 800, but I hate taking off my headphones to listen to my pinpointer signal. I'm looking at getting a pinpointer with Bluetooth technology, but as far as I can tell I'm not able to use the same headphones for both devices. Does anyone have any advice on this in terms of what to buy or how to make two different systems work together on the same headphones?

Came across an interesting article regarding Qualcomm's latest incarnation of it APTX BT audio codec called "APTX Adaptive". The technology from a purely technical standpoint is simply amazing. Instead of fixed bitrate modes (e.g., APTX - Classic, APTX-HD, APTX-LL), APTX-Adaptive evaluates and scales the best bit rate based on the situation and adjusts on the fly, including incorporating low latency by default. Cool right? However, diving into the specifics, it appears there may be a few gotchas. Notably, the low latency capabilities of APTX adaptive are not quite as good as APTX-LL and backwards compatibility - from the article: Regarding low latency: "[APTX Adaptive's] Algorithm latency is also down to less than 2ms at 48kHz, with a system round trip falling somewhere between 50 and 80ms depending on the implementation. This isn’t quite as fast as Low Latency’s sub 40ms speed but should be virtually imperceivable. Other codecs can reach over 200ms latency, and even the old aptX clocked in at around 150ms." Regarding backwards compatibility: "Speaking of latency, aptX Low Latency is being retired after the launch of Adaptive, which has some implications for backward compatibility. When connecting to Low Latency devices, Adaptive will default back to aptX Classic. In other instances, aptX Adaptive simply matches the capabilities and bitrate of the Classic or HD-capable device, so product transition should be seamless." What does all this mean for ML detectors and the folks who own them? Well there are gaps in the article's explanation of APTX Adaptive's implementation, but the key takeaway is the statement that APTX-LL is being retired. What this practically means is that 3rd party headphone companies will gradually shift to implementing APTX Adaptive and releasing phones with that tech while phones with APTX-LL will be harder to come by as the APTX-LL phones are retired from manufacturers' product lines. 3rd party APTX-LL compatible headsets are already a relatively rare breed. This will just eventually exacerbate that situation. All the existing APTX-LL compatible gear will still continue to work with both APTX-LL and APTX Adaptive phones, but at some point, the APTX-LL phones will wear out, break or get lost and getting a 3rd party, direct APTX-LL replacent will be hard if your favorite phones are no longer manufactured. ML will support breakage of their ML branded APTX-LL under warranty and I suspect, ML will continue to stock their marked up phones for post warranty purchase, for the foreseeable future to support their active detector product lines using APTX-LL wireless. It appears APTX Adaptive phones should work with the ML APTX LL detectors, the big question mark is whether their latency will default to APTX Classic birate AND latency at 150 ms (compared to APTX-LL's 40 ms latency) is not entirely clear in the article [this would be noticeable and bad] or will simply use APTX Adaptive's 50-80 ms latency and APTX Classic's birate which would be OK, but not quite as good as APTX-LL. What is also not clear is whether full APTX Adaptive backwards compatibility requires the new Qualcomm chip on the transmitter (in this case the detector) which would be a non-starter for ML, a firmware upgrade to the existing BT chip in the detector, or nothing at all needs to be done. I suspect the latter, but I am just guessing. Overall, this is the flip side of hitching your wagon to a pseudo industry standard compatible technology where you have less control over future obsolescence (but a better and more economical selection of third party hardware) vs. using your own, less universally compatible proprietary hardware/software. ML makes their proprietary solutions such as Wi Stream wireless audio even more cumbersome by not providing universal compatibility across their own detector lines. Manufacturer-specific proprietary tech is one thing, making it detector specific is a whole other level of suck. I was encouraged to see ML going solely with APTX-LL wireless audio on the GPX 6000. I just hope ML they did their homework and asked some pointed questions of Qualcomm before Adaptive was announce and before committing to APTX-LL for the GPX 6000 regarding future backward compatibility as Qualcomm evolved the APTX tech and got the right answers that put the questions I posed above to bed as non-issues... We'll see.

So, Lower-price wireless headphones are going as low as $30 U.S. on Amazon. Nicer ones more, obviously. My 2 questions are: Does one really need ONLY White's wireless headphones to make the wireless mode work on White's detectors? Would really any old one work? (The factory originals are more than a little pricey on E-bay, etc.) TIA!

I’ve been wanting to use the pig tail that comes with my Tarsacci but at the same time I wanted the new Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones to go with it. I just like being able to unplug from my Tarsacci anytime I want. The headphones have a universal plug that the 1/4” screws down over the 1/8” making it two plugs in one so to say. It also has a volume control for each ear that helps me a lot being the hearing in my right ear is not as good as the other. If you’re wondering why it’s called a pig tail because it’s short like one. One important thing you need to do is anchor the pig tail down to the shaft so not to be pulling directly on it . If you don’t it’s going to take a beating and not last long at all. You can see in the picture below how I fixed that .The last picture as you can see is with the headphones plugged in. I just received my Pelso headphones and really like them! The thing I noticed was that there was no right or left designated on the ear pieces as all other headphones have. Does it matter which way I wear them on the Nox? I didn't know if the signal / target would be affected by this. I did figure out which ear is which by plugging the Pelso's into my phone and watching a YouTube video that has audio to determine right and left channel. The cord on the Pelso's would have to be worn on the left, which is the right channel. This makes the cord on the opposite of where I would like it for connection purposes. Any thoughts?

I mentioned these headphones but it's embedded in another thread. I think them worthy of a post of their own with the right tag. They're not waterproof or even water resistant, but I'd still use them at the beach. I don't like earbuds, and the one set I tried failed after 3 days. I've been looking for something that is on ear or bone conducting, this headphone was released in December 2020. Don't know why I didn't find them earlier: Creative SoundBlaster Jam V2. Specs: Aptx-LL (B+ on the Equinox) Bluetooth 5, Aptx-HD as well Can connect to 2 devices, and be used direct wired via USB-C cable 22 hour purported battery life On ear 2" Neodymium drivers 3.5 ounces Noise cancelling (but you can hear ambient sounds like your pinpointer) USB-C charging Spare pair of ear pads and charging cable. These headphones are outrageously light, can easily accommodate any head size (they will expand as you use them), and they are loud and have bass boost. After using them for a day they sounded almost as good as my BT-80 over ear headphones which I compare everything to. They paired within 2 minutes to the Equinox. Once paired, put them on, push the large button and hold until you hear a tone. Turn the Equinox on and bam. The only cons I can think of are that the band is a bit uncomfortable (no padding) unless you wear a hat, and they can come off with a lot of stooping. Wrap the band with sticky tape. Other PAWW devices are verified to work with the Equinox, and these definitely don't disappoint. Normally they are $50. What a deal. Here are some specs: And here is a breakdown of what they look like: Ok, now for the review. I hate sticking stuff in my ears, earbuds are either uncomfortable or don't stay in. The sound is usually tinny or low volume. I bought an Aukey set that lasted 3 days and sounded terrible. These are quite the opposite. Never have earbuds fit so well, been more comfortable or so loud. The dual speakers in these are incredible. I can't run the Equinox volume much over 22 and the volume on these too much over default. I have $100 AKGs and Galaxy buds that don't sound as good. Battery life is respectable. I hope they last more than 3 days because my initial impression is that they are worth even $50. They are sweat resistant, pretty light, and I'm impressed by the materials and the ear inserts that hold them in place. They paired faster than any other headphone I've used. I got these for the windy days when I'm not going to be using the other fabulous find this year - the SoundBlaster Jam V2. I should have bought 2 sets of them.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a pair of these Quest headphones. They say they can be used in the rain which is huge for me as I mostly beach hunt in all weather. They are made specifically to pair with the Equinox. Can anyone share any first hand experience with the build/sound quality?

Last week, I attempted to power on the ML 80 headphones I use with the Equinox 800. I purchased these new in March 2019. They would not power on. I charged them: the 3 red LEDs flash for about 10 minutes and then turn off, as if headphones were charged. But, the headphones still will not power on. I attempted to contact my dealer and ML, but neither have yet responded. Does anybody have any novel ideas to try, or troubleshooting, remedies? I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks,

As a new member of the forum I suspect this question has been dealt with many times in the past .I am having a problem linking my WM 08 to my Nox 600 .It just does not happen ,full charge on both and 2 ft apart .I have tried at least a dozen times .(headphones not turned on or involved .Can anyone help ?
