  1. Curious if the Legend is compatible with the Pulse Dive pointer and maybe the Green headphones. Anyone know?
  2. So I did a little more experimenting with the WM08 and various wired headphones I have around the house and I am noticing a little difference in latency VS Bluetooth, specially with pinpointing as suggested in responses to my previously posted WM08 question. I also noticed quite a difference in sound of different headphones when used with the WM08 too. I've been looking into some of your suggested headphones, such as Gray Ghost, Sunray Gold, Killer Bee, etc., as well as looking at older posts regarding headphones for use with the Equinox. This leads me to ask a question to those of you who prefer wired phones with your Nox. What full over-the-ear wired headphones do you prefer with your Equinox and why? TIA for your help.
  3. I was experimenting with Dan(MN)'s mod of mounting the WM-08 to a pair of good quality wired headphones, which works really well. I read the Equinox manual section about the WM 08 and saw that its latency is only 17ms whereas Low Latency Bluetooth is 40ms and normal Bluetooth is up to 100ms. I have been using LL Bluetooth ear buds all Summer and Fall so I'm used to the way they respond, but when I tested my new WM 08 rig, I couldn't really tell any difference in response time/latency. I guess I was expecting there to be a noticible difference. So my questions are, for those who use the WM 08 module, can you tell a difference as opposed to Bluetooth? Do you prefer to use the WM 08 setup and why?
  4. I noticed that these don't come with a volume control. Is that because it's harder to hear under water and not needed? Would I be better off with a pair of Amphibians from Detector Pro? Thanks! Walt
  5. I had some spare time today and was messing around in the man-cave. I've had a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50X that I had used with the WM08 last year. I've been plugging wired earbuds into the WM08 and running the cord down the back of my shirt to keep the cord out of my way. I have a couple of APTX Low Latency transmitters I used on the CTX, Etrac etc and was going to use that on the Audio's. I was having a hard time getting them to pair up, when I glanced at my WM08 and had a flash of inspiration The Techica's have a special twist in, removable plug, so I decided to make a short patch cord and mount the WM08 on the side of the headphones. These phones have some excellent sound quality with more than enough volume and they feel great. I retire this Saturday, so I plan on giving the setup a good work out next week.
  6. Who has run the sp01 on their 6 I had a crack , with my cogs as well , but found the cables a pain in the arse ... Also with the 6,s headphones on 70% volume on the phones and the detector backed off a tad I hear the feint murmurs ok I reckon anyway 😃 I
  7. Got the tarsacci out today to get things charged up and redoing the zlink wires differently. I love the z link and Garrett headphones. But hate the connector that’s needed. Wish I could figure out something different for that. Will be in Culpeper in about 3 weeks for the DIV and will only be using the tarsacci there.
  8. Hello, I am looking for a solution on how to vibrate the Equinox 600/800 detector for a deaf person who will use it underwater. As you know, a deaf person wears hearing aids that are not waterproof and cannot be immersed under water, and in these headphones he is not able to hear the signals, too much hearing loss is about 95dB. I did a few attempts with a small amplifier and vibration motor from an old cell phone, but there are problems: - after connecting the system to the Nox800 on the cable, the motor makes a slight buzzing noise but does not react to the metal signal in the coil, - after connecting the system to the WM08 wireless module, the vibration works great on signals, but unfortunately after the detector is submerged under water, it loses the wireless connection. - if I connect the headphone (computer) cable to the Noxa800 and at the end of the handset (the signal is heard in the headphones) I cut the cable and solder it to the system, vibration works great on the signals. Why is it that the vibration does not work directly on the cable and it works through the headphone cable? Is there anyone on the forum who will cover this topic? One more thing. The deaf person uses an induction loop instead of headphones, which works with the hearing aid above the water and on the ground. This loop connected to the detector via the cable is perfect, but when it is connected to the WM08, a buzzing can be heard in the background. How to do it to eliminate interference?
  9. These poll results will be seen at Minelab, in hope of guiding future product development. Please take the poll seriously, and if you wish, provide extra commentary via the posts section. This poll is designed to reveal how owners of the Minelab Equinox, Vanquish Pro Pack, and GPX 6000 are using, or not using, the included ML80 and ML100 headphones. Please, only owners of these models should respond to the poll directly, though others are welcome to add commentary via posts. Again, I request you take the poll seriously, and think about answers or commentary provided, as reflecting on the quality of forum membership. Thank you for your time and responses.
  10. I bought these headphones and used them in the ocean last week in the Kauai (up to my neck). The dealer is always busy or on a trip so I thought I'd throw this out there to get some feedback. I had a few instances where the audio cut out completely and I jiggled the cord and it came back. My question is, should the end of the headphone cord have an o-ring like a lot of my scuba equipment does? The EQ800 still seems to work fine so I don't believe any water made it's way inside detector. As to my success ..well let's just say I understand why my dealer goes to Cancun for his jewelry hunts and not where I went where the waves are 3,4,5 feet. I quickly looked for beaches with "breakwaters" that you can safely take children to and I did find lots of coins and 1 silver diamond ring..but man, it was still 'surgey' as heck and not easy to lift one foot up to push scoop into sand while keeping your balance! Anyone have any experience in using the EQ in the ocean? I saw online sand scoops with a "cross" handle (like on a small shovel) where when you scoop you can keep the scoop from twisting sideways...thoughts..usage?The scoop handle would have to be a "breakdown" type to be able to pack for air travel. The scoop I took has a straight shaft that easily turns sideways when scooping.
  11. I’m after a durable and lightweight set of headphones for warmer weather. I run a speaker with my 3500 but have the need for headphones sometimes. I want an “on ear” set. I’m looking at getting the Telex Airman 7 Listen Only headphones. The link is below…..love to hear any pros or cons. Impedance is 150 ohms…..thanks. https://www.sportys.com/telex-airman-7-listen-only-headset.html
  12. I'm looking for the 4 wire pinout for White's MX Sport audio port, I've lost my adaptor and want to build a replacement. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. Came across an interesting article regarding Qualcomm's latest incarnation of it APTX BT audio codec called "APTX Adaptive". The technology from a purely technical standpoint is simply amazing. Instead of fixed bitrate modes (e.g., APTX - Classic, APTX-HD, APTX-LL), APTX-Adaptive evaluates and scales the best bit rate based on the situation and adjusts on the fly, including incorporating low latency by default. Cool right? However, diving into the specifics, it appears there may be a few gotchas. Notably, the low latency capabilities of APTX adaptive are not quite as good as APTX-LL and backwards compatibility - from the article: Regarding low latency: "[APTX Adaptive's] Algorithm latency is also down to less than 2ms at 48kHz, with a system round trip falling somewhere between 50 and 80ms depending on the implementation. This isn’t quite as fast as Low Latency’s sub 40ms speed but should be virtually imperceivable. Other codecs can reach over 200ms latency, and even the old aptX clocked in at around 150ms." Regarding backwards compatibility: "Speaking of latency, aptX Low Latency is being retired after the launch of Adaptive, which has some implications for backward compatibility. When connecting to Low Latency devices, Adaptive will default back to aptX Classic. In other instances, aptX Adaptive simply matches the capabilities and bitrate of the Classic or HD-capable device, so product transition should be seamless." What does all this mean for ML detectors and the folks who own them? Well there are gaps in the article's explanation of APTX Adaptive's implementation, but the key takeaway is the statement that APTX-LL is being retired. What this practically means is that 3rd party headphone companies will gradually shift to implementing APTX Adaptive and releasing phones with that tech while phones with APTX-LL will be harder to come by as the APTX-LL phones are retired from manufacturers' product lines. 3rd party APTX-LL compatible headsets are already a relatively rare breed. This will just eventually exacerbate that situation. All the existing APTX-LL compatible gear will still continue to work with both APTX-LL and APTX Adaptive phones, but at some point, the APTX-LL phones will wear out, break or get lost and getting a 3rd party, direct APTX-LL replacent will be hard if your favorite phones are no longer manufactured. ML will support breakage of their ML branded APTX-LL under warranty and I suspect, ML will continue to stock their marked up phones for post warranty purchase, for the foreseeable future to support their active detector product lines using APTX-LL wireless. It appears APTX Adaptive phones should work with the ML APTX LL detectors, the big question mark is whether their latency will default to APTX Classic birate AND latency at 150 ms (compared to APTX-LL's 40 ms latency) is not entirely clear in the article [this would be noticeable and bad] or will simply use APTX Adaptive's 50-80 ms latency and APTX Classic's birate which would be OK, but not quite as good as APTX-LL. What is also not clear is whether full APTX Adaptive backwards compatibility requires the new Qualcomm chip on the transmitter (in this case the detector) which would be a non-starter for ML, a firmware upgrade to the existing BT chip in the detector, or nothing at all needs to be done. I suspect the latter, but I am just guessing. Overall, this is the flip side of hitching your wagon to a pseudo industry standard compatible technology where you have less control over future obsolescence (but a better and more economical selection of third party hardware) vs. using your own, less universally compatible proprietary hardware/software. ML makes their proprietary solutions such as Wi Stream wireless audio even more cumbersome by not providing universal compatibility across their own detector lines. Manufacturer-specific proprietary tech is one thing, making it detector specific is a whole other level of suck. I was encouraged to see ML going solely with APTX-LL wireless audio on the GPX 6000. I just hope ML they did their homework and asked some pointed questions of Qualcomm before Adaptive was announce and before committing to APTX-LL for the GPX 6000 regarding future backward compatibility as Qualcomm evolved the APTX tech and got the right answers that put the questions I posed above to bed as non-issues... We'll see.
  14. So, Lower-price wireless headphones are going as low as $30 U.S. on Amazon. Nicer ones more, obviously. My 2 questions are: Does one really need ONLY White's wireless headphones to make the wireless mode work on White's detectors? Would really any old one work? (The factory originals are more than a little pricey on E-bay, etc.) TIA!
  15. I’ve been wanting to use the pig tail that comes with my Tarsacci but at the same time I wanted the new Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones to go with it. I just like being able to unplug from my Tarsacci anytime I want. The headphones have a universal plug that the 1/4” screws down over the 1/8” making it two plugs in one so to say. It also has a volume control for each ear that helps me a lot being the hearing in my right ear is not as good as the other. If you’re wondering why it’s called a pig tail because it’s short like one. One important thing you need to do is anchor the pig tail down to the shaft so not to be pulling directly on it . If you don’t it’s going to take a beating and not last long at all. You can see in the picture below how I fixed that .The last picture as you can see is with the headphones plugged in. Chuck PS The headphones came from Rob’s detectors .
  16. I just received my Pelso headphones and really like them! The thing I noticed was that there was no right or left designated on the ear pieces as all other headphones have. Does it matter which way I wear them on the Nox? I didn't know if the signal / target would be affected by this. I did figure out which ear is which by plugging the Pelso's into my phone and watching a YouTube video that has audio to determine right and left channel. The cord on the Pelso's would have to be worn on the left, which is the right channel. This makes the cord on the opposite of where I would like it for connection purposes. Any thoughts?
  17. With the release of the GPX 6000 along with the Vanquish and Equinox, thought I would provide an updated summary of several known compatible Bluetooth APTX-LL headphones of various types, features, and price points for consideration thanks to other forum members (e.g., F350 Platinum) here who have played guinea pig and purchased/verified compatibility and performance: Avantree solid all around BT APTX-LL phones, over the ear type: https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Wireless-Headphones-Comfortable-Bluetooth/dp/B01A0EAYDI/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=Avantree+aptx&qid=1626912542&sr=8-8 If you want some decent light weight BT APTX-LL phones withe great "Soundblaster" quality audio, try these Creative phones on for size - occasionally they run flash sales on these and they can be had cheaper (note they are light but "on the ear" style which some may not like especially for long detecting sessions: https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-B...6906692&sr=8-5 Decent over the ear BT APTX-LL phones as a less expensive alternative to the Avantrees above: https://www.amazon.com/AKSONIC-Bluet...6908685&sr=8-6 If you are interested in earbud style phones these two pairs of phones are comfortable, sweat resistant, and have great audio (I like the Glazata N9 neckband style, less stress on the interconnecting wire, but the Pawws are at an unbeatable price): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097B5V5M7...v_ov_lig_dp_it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Creative Aurvana Trio Wireless – Bluetooth 5.0, Triple-Driver Neckband Headphones, aptX HD, aptX LL and AAC, Multipoint Connectivity, Noise-Isolating with Mic, Up to 20 Hrs Playtime https://a.co/d/0DAWl0W The following are a unique "convertible" torus neckband style that can be switched into local wearable "speaker" mode (the closeup soundstage sounds great even with "quiet" tones and is less annoying to others around you than running the speaker on your detector) or you can switch them into earbud mode for private listening too. Note that these are not water resistant. Cool but pricey. https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Wear...dp/B07Y56W9XQ/ If you are detecting near surf or in windy conditions the following BT APTX-LL phones are pricey (though the Pawws are 50% off right now) but have great audio PLUS active noise cancellation (so you can really hear faint audio tones) though they are not designed to get wet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Blue...6907632&sr=8-4 Ankbit E600Pro Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones with aptX HD & Low Latency, Over Ear Bluetooth Headphones Wireless Headphones with Build-in Microphone Hi-Fi Deep Bass, 60H Playtime https://a.co/d/gtijvDS Finally, these Quest detecting phones are purpose built for the Equinox (but compatible with any BT APTX-LL transmitter such as those built into the Vanquish 540 or GPX 6000) and are weather/water resistant (but not submersible) and pretty rugged for dirty, wet conditions, also with great BT APTX-LL audio: https://www.kellycodetectors.com/que...es-for-equinox Wireless is definitely the way to go with as long as you are not doing submerged water hunting, which necessitates waterproof wired phones. Pair the above with any of a number of diminutive BT APTX-LL transmitters or receiver/transmitters (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones-Simultaneously/dp/B01B4W40VC/ref=sr_1_3?crid=32YIIDCD94VQX&dchild=1&keywords=trond+aptx+low+latency+transmitter&qid=1626913077&sprefix=Trond+aptx%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-3) and you have a cost effective wireless audio solution for any detector that uses a standard or mini headphone jack. HTH and Good Luck. Feel free to post any additional rekko's in the thread.
  18. Looking for help for replacement ear muffs for gray ghost amphibian headphones or modification to make more comfortable.I like headphones but after 2-4 hrs a little hard on ears.thanks
  19. I scored a Simplex with wireless headphones over the weekend and one of the things I do when I get something technological that unnecessarily uses or attempts to use proprietary connections for common accessories is I immediately begin thinking about how to adapt it to what I already have for use. I did this for example when there were not yet waterproof headphones available for the Equinox. Then it hit me. The CTX-3030 uses the same 8 pin mini din for its waterproof headphones as Nokta Makro is now using, so I already have a $160 pair of Grey Ghost underwater headphones with 8 pin connector. But making an adapter for the equinox is not apples to apples when contemplating whether to plug those Grey Ghosts in the Simplex. With the equinox it was a simple threaded 1/8 jack adapter conversion and the port on the equinox is exclusively audio, so nothing to mess up. The Simplex has a bit more going on with its headphone port, which can also connect to power, and updates I believe as I sit here. Also who is to say the audio connections are on the exact same pins. The pattern could theoretically be different, I think. So I’m wondering if any other CTX/Nokta-Makro owners have noticed this and tried it already? It’s really more of a technical and annoyance issue with me than saving $109 for the proprietary set. By now, headphones, chargers etc should all be pretty standard absent something really special going on, but that is in part how companies make more money (and e-waste)selling you things you already bought and wouldn’t need to buy again if they didn’t go out of their way to make it incompatible with others or standard accessory connections. I don’t hate the players. I don’t even hate the game. It’s kind of a challenge to find a way to overcome it where it’s safe to do so.
  20. Thinking about pulling the trigger on a pair of these Quest headphones. They say they can be used in the rain which is huge for me as I mostly beach hunt in all weather. They are made specifically to pair with the Equinox. Can anyone share any first hand experience with the build/sound quality?
  21. Hi all, I love my equinox 800, but I hate taking off my headphones to listen to my pinpointer signal. I'm looking at getting a pinpointer with Bluetooth technology, but as far as I can tell I'm not able to use the same headphones for both devices. Does anyone have any advice on this in terms of what to buy or how to make two different systems work together on the same headphones?
  22. I posted these as well as others on Amazon Prime Day, @BchPatrol and I bought them for $10, hope some of y'all did as well. Other PAWW devices are verified to work with the Equinox, and these definitely don't disappoint. Normally they are $50. What a deal. Here are some specs: And here is a breakdown of what they look like: Ok, now for the review. I hate sticking stuff in my ears, earbuds are either uncomfortable or don't stay in. The sound is usually tinny or low volume. I bought an Aukey set that lasted 3 days and sounded terrible. These are quite the opposite. Never have earbuds fit so well, been more comfortable or so loud. The dual speakers in these are incredible. I can't run the Equinox volume much over 22 and the volume on these too much over default. I have $100 AKGs and Galaxy buds that don't sound as good. Battery life is respectable. I hope they last more than 3 days because my initial impression is that they are worth even $50. They are sweat resistant, pretty light, and I'm impressed by the materials and the ear inserts that hold them in place. They paired faster than any other headphone I've used. I got these for the windy days when I'm not going to be using the other fabulous find this year - the SoundBlaster Jam V2. I should have bought 2 sets of them.
  23. If you have an Equinox and Amazon Prime, Paww earbuds are $10 today. Usually $50. Aptx-LL. https://www.amazon.com/Paww-DualSound-Resistant-Sweatproof-Ear/dp/B07KVFNWM3/ref=sr_1_3? Also these are $79 instead of $99, but I don't know if they will pair: https://www.amazon.com/dyplay-Cancelling-Headphones-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B0855DV5B8/ref=sr_1_5? These are verified, and half price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IEHIMLY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  24. I mentioned these headphones but it's embedded in another thread. I think them worthy of a post of their own with the right tag. They're not waterproof or even water resistant, but I'd still use them at the beach. I don't like earbuds, and the one set I tried failed after 3 days. I've been looking for something that is on ear or bone conducting, this headphone was released in December 2020. Don't know why I didn't find them earlier: Creative SoundBlaster Jam V2. Specs: Aptx-LL (B+ on the Equinox) Bluetooth 5, Aptx-HD as well Can connect to 2 devices, and be used direct wired via USB-C cable 22 hour purported battery life On ear 2" Neodymium drivers 3.5 ounces Noise cancelling (but you can hear ambient sounds like your pinpointer) USB-C charging Spare pair of ear pads and charging cable. These headphones are outrageously light, can easily accommodate any head size (they will expand as you use them), and they are loud and have bass boost. After using them for a day they sounded almost as good as my BT-80 over ear headphones which I compare everything to. They paired within 2 minutes to the Equinox. Once paired, put them on, push the large button and hold until you hear a tone. Turn the Equinox on and bam. The only cons I can think of are that the band is a bit uncomfortable (no padding) unless you wear a hat, and they can come off with a lot of stooping. Wrap the band with sticky tape. I wrapped mine with ACU because I like camo. 😀 They're $39 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08QRQMLVY
  25. Anyone running the new version of sunray phones??? thanks. https://www.robsdetectors.com/sun-ray-pro-gold-universal-headphones/
