  1. Howdy folks! I could use some help, I was out detecting last night on a portion of my wooded property that I had not been to yet and found this little buckle about 8" down with the Equinox 800. I was using Field 1 with mostly stock settings, minus a few volume tweaks, and it came in at a constant VDI of 20. It's only about an inch long and a half inch in width. It's interesting because it has some "fancy" around the border and is kinda unique in it's shape. I've been trying to find some possible timeline info on it and keep striking out. Once decent site I found on buckles may indicate that it's from the 1660's-1720's, but that can't be right (or if it's right, that would be pretty cool!) - http://mdgear.com/buckle-guide/ if you've seen one of these before, or have some ideas, please post and thanks in advance! -Bill
  2. Any idea what this may be? It was found at a 130 year old school yard that they are soon going to tear down, though it doesn't necessarily mean its school related. My first thought was it might be part of a horn? However looking at it further, I don't know if it had the tolerances to be part of an instrument. The top part swivels in the center, while doing so it lowers the tear drop shaped flap into the tube part, while raising the other two. (One appears to be missing) It seems like it could be used to count or meter out some objects?
  3. Did a little bit of detecting today and found this...can anybody tell me what this, I think it's a coin, is? What country it may be from? What year? Thanks in advance for any help identifying this object.
  4. Hello all, i like to take the kids on hikes and look for cool rocks. I came across this but no one can tell me what it is, and I've looked for an assayer in my area. The closest is quite aways away. I live in so cal. Any help would be fantastic. This weighs approx. 8.79 oz
  5. I found this button a few weeks ago and can't find it anywhere online. I can find the maker but not the design that's on the button. Anyone know? The obverse is a horse with a foal. Reverse says: TREBLE STANDD EXTRA RICH
  6. Good day all. I found this artifact on a town green along with coins dating back to 1873 in the same area with the equinox. It had a vdi of 15-16. And appears to be lead. At first, before I cleaned it I thought I may have a counterfeit since I have seen a few that were similar composition and had a similar rim near the edge but the ones I saw had the same details/strike as a coin. I couldn't make out any details on this one other that the indentations that don't go all the way through. Any ID'ers out there ?
  7. Help with IDing a few finds. While at one of my favorite sites in NV., using Equinox 800 I found a few oldies. 1868 US 2 Cent Copper is certainly a "Hats Off" moment. What's the Chinese symbols on the tin mean? Anyone know pewter silverware "think it's C Parker"? Last is a really big bullet casing. It's short & not like a longer rifle casing. Pretty wide so the bullet was at least 50 cal +? Letters F. V. V. & Co stamped on base. There is no primer. If you think of anyone who knows such items, please forward. Thanks for your help.
  8. Question for those that fantasize about geology, don't know what this is, some kind of agete, or petrified amber? Interesting formation anyway, came from someplace in China, a friend of my wife had it and gave it to her because she liked it.
  9. Got out with the equinox, got this old piece of brass i think. Does anyone know what this might be?
  10. I was to an older site, that likely contained homes at one point, that was being stripped of sod for a community garden. I was on speed 8 and it sounded like a machine gun with all the iron and bits of junk in the ground. I was able to find 2 wheats, one Army button, a Swiss Army knife and enough modern pennies that I don't have to worry about zinc deficiency any time soon. One of the items I found was a coin (I think) that looks Chinese or Japanese. If anyone has an idea, it would be very helpful. It is very thin and appears to be made of copper, as it is fairly bendable. There are no marks on the reverse. Park 1, 50 tones, mostly speed 7, and tracking on.
  11. I was detecting on the beach today and found a large men's ring. VDI rings up low at a consistent 10 on the Equinox 800. The color outside is silvery, the inside golden. No markings, size 10.25, heavy at 5.34 grams. At first glance it appeared to be tungsten. When I got home I checked the VDI of my 4 tungstens and they were all 17-20 for similarly sized rings. Next the acid test, drops are from left to right, 14k passed, 18k passed, 22k fail, platinum fail, silver fail. Scratch test scratch was vigorous to get to the base metal. Could this really be a 18k ring, being silvery colored on the outside and golden on the inside? Has anyone seen a gold ring like this? Thanks in advance.
  12. Got permission to hunt and old home site this afternoon. The owner was very willing to show me two rocks of some sort he found in his yard. What might they be? Thanks in advance.
  13. This is probably going to seem like a stupid question to some but the way I look at it and was always taught the only stupid question is the one you do not ask so here goes Has there ever been diamonds found in Arizona the reason I am asking is I have been running some material on a Miller table and have been finding some vary small clear crystals that look just like diamonds. like I said this is probably a stupid question but oh well
  14. I got out for a couple of hour detect this morning and came across this thing. There was no other rubbish around, it was there all on its own. I have no doubt it`s worthless but I don`t think I`ve seen one before. Anybody know what it might be?
  15. Took my new Minelab Monster out for a spin and ran across this little mystery pebble. At first glance I thought it was a piece of broken junk Jewlery or somethings man made. When I brought it home and looked at it through a loupe, the grey parts look like natural rock. It was really hard to capture on photos so I hope they are good enough for you guys to see and help me identify.. It registers as non ferrous and weighs 1.3 grams. What do you think? As for the Gold Monster, I really like it. Literally found my first nugget in less than a minute after turning it on! Only had about ten minutes to test it out but went back for another 45 minutes on a different day to score the half gram nugget and flake. The little flake was so small it won't even register on my scale that measures down to tenth grain. My only complaint so far is that the little 5" coil is not very sensitive on its outer edge or end. I like to tip the coil on end and get down in to cracks and the GM 5 coil is not good for that. Bryan
  16. I found this out in San Bernardino burried in hard clay in a wash. It attracts to magnets and has the correct external features ( I think) to be considered a candidate. The last picture is of the window I sanded off. It polishes up like metal. I do have another verified meteorite to compare it to and this one seems very similar in density. What do you think?
  17. I guess I'm as big a moron as all the other meteorite wannabees, but here it is. I found this hunk of metal out in the Idaho desert. It was in the vicinity of an old railroad stop. That railroad dates back to the late 1800's, and that stop was abandoned long ago. I figured the rock had something to do with the railroad, but looking at it the other day, I started wondering. I had it checked at a local scrapyard a couple of years ago, and the gun showed it had +/- 10% nickel. It will cause a round magnet to roll around. It's about 2" across at the widest point. What say you experts? Everything I know about meteorites could be written on the back of a postage stamp, with room left over. The closeup pic is a small broken face. We ground a flat spot on one side so the xrf gun could get a reading. Jim
  18. About six inches down in the ankle-deep surf. It's very thin and worn almost beyond recognition. But it's obviously old, round and silver, and it was found on a treasure coast beach. You can almost make out a date on one side, 1720-something...if you hold it at just the right angle in bright light. One side is completely gone...as in slick as a billiard ball. The yellowish coin is a modern US dime. Anybody have any ideas?
  19. I found my first ringed bullet yesterday hunting one of our older parks and I'm trying to put a date on it. It's hard to find anything older then the 1880s around here although this park is showing some promise with this bullet and my friends 1836 Capped Bust Dime that shocked us last week. Any help identifying and dating this bullet would be appreciated. My best guess is that it's about 38 caliber and it weighs 12.46 grams or about 192 grains. Picked up a couple of Indians, a 16s wheat and a 1908 V Nickel that cleaned up pretty nice along with the bullet. Edit: I measured the ringed end and came up with 5/16 one way and a hair under a half inch the other. Bryan
  20. Weighs 69 Grams, reads below nickel on Metal Detector, does not stick to a magnet. Thanks for any help!
  21. This is the best Chinese coin/charm?... I have ever found. I found it with the MGR in an old park near Redding on the trinity river. The obverse side is clear but the reverse is almost smooth. Any guesses, I looked online but couldn't find a coin that had all 4 markings on the same coin....maybe Wu-Shu dynasty...or a later copy? Help :-) Pictures are for Merton.....lol
  22. Hey friends. Found this yesterday here in maine. It was sitting on moss covered bedrock next to a stream where people obviously hang out very occasionally. It's about the size of a dime but slightly thin on the edges.
