  1. Hi went out today on an average tide on a spot i am trying to hit hard at the moment had a brass ring 2 days ago and today i decide to focus on an area i havent done well yet ,large iron and mineralised concrete blocks fragment.....anyway found a 18ct weighting 3.06 grs considering that the river Thames isn't really famous for Gold i am happy with that one .I found 3 others on the low tide line but didn't have much hope today ,as the tide was crap.F75 rules with the small elliptical giving me amazing result .....the Deus havent seen much mud since i bought the Fisher ,all my other machines are taking dust ,with my settings i found 9ct ,14ct and 18ct gold so i am pretty sure i am well tune. The first gold bit with the F75 was a part of gold watch bracelet weighting 11.5 gr of 18ct :) Would love to try the Rutus on that spot RR
  2. Im still a newbie to this hobby but I try to take in as much knowledge as as I can from all of the more experienced prospectors on this board. I've learned a lot in the last 3 years from some of you fellas and to that I am greatful. That being said I stumbeled or should I say my wife stumbled upon a new method of unearthing gold the other day. She was taking a lunch time walk around the lake where she works and noticed a duck pecking at something shiny near the waters edge. The curious bird eventually tired of playing with or trying to eat the shiny object so Lisa went down to investigate and found a nice gold chain and pendant. It tests 10k with acid. Included is a photo of the pendant and a short video that demonstrates what one might "look for" when employing this new technique of finding gold. I realize that the video is of geese but the same method applies to ducks. Some of the members of this board are snowed in right now and I hope you find this post useful. You might want to turn some music on when watching the video..... strick
  3. Platinum and Gold 49Grams!!!! Jeez I'd have a heart attack Beach and Water Forum
  4. A decorative ring has been found in the Nottinghamshire woodlands by an amateur detectorist. "Mark Thompson, who spray paints fork lift trucks, was in the famous Nottinghamshire woodland for just 20 minutes when his metal detector sounded. The 34-year-old, who had only taken up the hobby 18 months ago, was expecting to find something innocuous. But as he shovelled the dirt, a glint of gold emerged on ornate piece of jewellery with a precious sapphire. Auctioneers have since told him that the precious ring could fetch between £20,000 and £70,000." The rest of the story and lots of great photos at https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2435181/robin-hood-sherwood-forest-medieval-ring-found/
  5. I found this nice little gold ring in a turf location Wednesday morning with my little buddy, a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. It was about 1-1/2" down in the grass roots. I had the Tracker IV in Tone mode with the tone break point set on a zinc penny. It hit with a nice solid low tone. What is great about this ring is that I found it where I expected to find it. A great way to end the year. Oh yeah....eyeballed this pocket knife........ HH Mike
  6. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone. Heres a few photos of some of my new friends. Nothing compared to those Aussie nuggets but some gold at least. All park finds and a few relics. I only was able to get out nugget hunting once this year but hope to get out more in 2017. The 7000 is getting rusty.....Thanks for a great resource Steve! strick
  7. Found this today while doing a little park hunting...... 414 grains of 10k
  8. "A Tudor ring found in a muddy field by an amateur metal detector enthusiast has sold for an estimated £20,000. Lee Rossiter, 43, almost threw the item away after a detectorist pal said he thought it was costume jewellery. 9. I hit the same beach yesterday that I found the big mens class ring last week. The good karma must have come back to me for returning that ring to the owner as the beach gave up some nice goodies yesterday. A hat trick of gold......a 10k mens wedding band, a 10k ladies ring with three small diamonds and a beautiful 10k ladies broach/pin with a diamond and pearls. After a little research, the pin looks to be from the 1920's. And to boot, $11.66 in change. Klunker....I was looking for your initials "18k", but to no avail. I'll keep looking. Rob
  10. Headed to a local beach this afternoon for a much needed break and managed to swing for five hours. Picked up $13.75 in change, including a 1942 wheat penny, a large mens 10K gold 1976 class ring (which has initials, so I'll do my best to track down the owner), a .925 ring and .925 earring. The class ring has a gross weight of 17.57 grams giving it a pure gold content of 7.32 grams. Plus found some other odds and ends including three junk rings. Hunted with the CTX 3030 with the 17" coil. Not shown in the photo, 37 corroded zinc pennies that I pitched in the garbage. Good luck and happy hunting, Rob
  11. My brain is stuck in "beach and park" mode so I have not been to the hills. Lisa and I went to Pismo for a long weekend (first three pics) I got to try my new to me TDI Pro. Thanks Steve for helping me decide which TDI to get. You were a great big help! 3 10K rings two with bling...one 14 K band and one large silver band. Plus some assorted silver. Got my first gold ring with a diamond using the XP Deus in a park a couple weeks ago.....fourth picture.. My ctx was in the shop for over a month and I finally got it back . First thing I did was put on the 10x5 Coiltek coil I bought from forum member Cabin Fever....Love this coil as it gets great depth and separation. ....I've been working a park 3 minutes from where I grew up. It has produced 5 gold rings so far. There are lots of old beaver tails in this park so I know it has not been hit by anyone serious yet. Scored a nice 14K Grill with bling! ..I know it sounds kinda weird but a gold grill was on my bucket list. Hopefully I'll get some time to head up hill soon and find a rock. happy Hunting fellas.
  12. "A bride-to-be is lucky to have her engagement ring back after it slid off her finger in Lake Michigan. It was missing for two days before it was found by a complete stranger." Full story here
  13. A window of opportunity opened up so Lisa and I headed for the High Sierras for three days. I had not had a chance to swing the 7000 since last Fall and I was itching to work an old worked out patch again. I manged to get one more piece (3.6 grams) just a few feet away from where I found Lisa's Pendant nugget last year. Hunted in Normal most of the time and was surprised that I could tame the 7000 down hunting in this mode. Sometimes it got a little noisy even in low smoothing but I just kept plugging away. Covered lots of ground looking for a new patch and dug countless trash targets but only manged to get the one nugget. Lisa got a small piece in a dry creek bed with her 2300. So at least we both scored gold. Ran into fellow prospector 1515Art who also scored a nice nugget. Good meeting you Clark... Looking forward to the next hunt in gods country. Also included are a few recent finds with the 3030. The Vintage gold ring was found hunting an old home site with Merton.... Going to hit some swimming holes after the 4th of July mayhem. Good Luck out there. strick
  14. I found my first gold ring yesterday. It was down about 8" at the same level I was finding square nails. A lot of history on this property, there is a wagon trail that passes through this area, and it looked like a great place to camp. I was using a Racer 2 in D2 mode and it locked on at 36-38 on the target ID. I was wondering if anyone could help me date the ring. I tried to post a picture where you can see the marks. It's marked 14k, then a diamond shape with "JS' makers mark inside, and a possible date mark it 805, or possibly 80E the last number or letter is hard to read. There was also a piece of gold wire attached to the inside to make the ring smaller. Anyone know jewelers marks out there? Mostly trying to figure out how old the ring is. Thanks!
  15. After testing the purse and coins my buddy and I went detecting. Since I got my garret-carrot I don't mind digging foil signals...I would not go coin hunting without it now! anyway I got this pile of stuff...I threw the trash away before the pic.
  16. I was beginning to think I would never find a gold ring. I have been coin and nugget hunting off and on since the early 90s with some pretty big gaps in between. 2015 was the first year I got real serious about detecting and actually looking for rings while out coin hunting. It came unexpectedly. My CTX conductive numbers were all over but holding tight to the FE 12 line so I thought maybe I had a war nickel under the coil. First thing out of the hole was an old scouts button. After rechecking the hole with my probe I find this ring about 3" further down. The only mark on it is a K with a star next to it. Acid test 14k or better. I'm thinking its early 1900s. Most coins I pull from that depth in this park are that era. Any help on the markings would be appreciated.
  17. This ring was found on a WW2 site in Australia, as this ring is from the states thought maybe someone on here could give me more information on it's origin or even it's owner.
  18. My Noka FORS CoRe showed up this morning 2 days after I placed my order with Chris at AOBP, I have basically a big goose egg of experience at running a detector but have been crash reading everything I can find about these machines since reading Mr Mills Detecting for gold book. I took the machine to a town park and it seemed to be giving me constant signal's with every swing of the coil but one sounded a little zipper than the other grunts and I dug this ring literally 10 minutes into the park and my first dig. I had the sensitivity at 80 in D3 and cant remember what it came up on the target id as. I have so much to learn, I am a bit overwhelmed. But I was pretty happy to find the 10k gold ring no matter the half doz pull tabs I dug afterwards. Maybe in a year or two I will figure out what they sound like LOL. Now to find me a little nugget
