  1. I got out for a few hours for a low tide hunt. Things started of slow with not many targets. The first good target was the little yellow ring. Later the cross marked .925 but it’s magnetic. I walked a few miles and finally stumble upon the last two 14k rings, which were a couple feet apart from each other. I also managed to find two and a silver quarter. Good luck out there, HH.
  2. Got another piece of gold today with the Impulse AQ. The clasp and the chain part both test 10K. I ran it through the ultrasonic cleaner about 6 times and it still has green clinging to it. Oh well, it gives it character. LOL I worked a 4 to 6 foot cut in AM and pulled out 17 quarters, 17 dimes, 7 nickels, 12 cents, one .925 earring, one junk earring, three tent pegs, a bobby pin and just a few other pieces of trash. I knew that I was digging all of the coins except for the nickels and one of the cents. Tent pegs and bobby pins are still sounding good though. It was a good hunt after being sidelined for two weeks with tendonitis in my right foot. I think that I would rather have a broken bone than the tendonitis. 😞 Thanks for looking.
  3. Went to a rocky beach that I only visit during winter months and it paid off with a small 10k ring. I only spent a few hours digging since it’s a PITA with all the rocks. The ring broke while I was rubbing the sand off. Thanks for looking and HH.
  4. Out for two hours today to a local park around a fishing pond. I have fished there before, but caught nothing. I have also dirt-fished there and caught nothing but coins. There were a good number of dimes and nickels, so it has not been pounded too badly. I was detecting around the pond trying to hang where people would picnic and lounge. I got a strong 18, and I actually dug it! Usually it takes a lot to dig an 18 after digging so many crusty pennies at 18! This was definitely a stronger signal than a penny, so it was dug. The ring was only about 1-2" down, so either it has been passed over many times or just missed. I had very high hopes that the stones would test well, but my initial tests done using the Amazon tester were not promising. However, gold is gold, and it looks really nice. Always great to have that adrenaline rush when something like that is in the hole! Equinox, 15", 7 recovery, Park 1, all metal
  5. It is not often you hear a target on a wave breaking beach and you look down and you see a ring but that is what happened today. I was working one of my normal beaches but today the wind was blowing offshore and the tide was ebbing with a relatively high low tide. This ring was in a steep section and probably would not have been there after the next wave. A trough is there and maybe worth a try when the tides become more defined. This is what it looked liked after it cleaned up. After I scooped it I wished I had taken a picture but the little waves would have moved it and I may have lost it. I didn't want to 'stage it' to show what it looked like when I fist saw it. These were the 'dirty' pictures. These are the total finds for the 3 hour session.
  6. I received my Equinox this past Saturday. Put it together did the update and took it for a walk in a park early Sunday afternoon. Within 10 minutes of turning it on I dug a massive gold ring. 10k 25.3 grams. UNBELIEVABLE! The internet says it's worth 630 dollars. Amazing. 2 thirds of the cost of the 800 was paid off in my 1st find. Anyone know what those strange markings are on the ring?
  7. My friend who had one of his worst years ever with his F75 finally took my advice and bought a Nox.He stopped by my house and showed me his gold ring which topped out at 25.3 grams at 10k with a weird design on it's fat head. You can see it on friendly metal detecting forum under eye popping finds and his name their Ramer. He might be a member here under relic ray but I don't know if he has posted anything yet.I have never seen a ring that heavy before found by a metal detector around here.
  8. First out for the year, found a spot that has cuts that are over my head. I know how they got there but best I hold on that for now. One thing for sure targets are every where, on the top shelf, down the slope, and in the bottom. Just have to wait for a better tide so I can hunt the whole bottom and not worry about sliding down the slope. Most targets are shallow. First gold was maybe 12 inch's? Going to be interesting to see how long this spots stays intact-ed. I knew something was up and one reason I took the Excalibur for I had no clue on what I would be walking into. I am debating on taking the 8 inch on the "AQ" next trip. Seems to be no trash at all.... Three hour hunt, 1916 Class Ring and 1929 Class ring. 4 Silvers, which are eaten bad by the brackish waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Water is just dipping into the high 30's, full hunt I was toasty but Need to make some adjustments to my gloves, left glove is like wearing a sock.. No mobility.
  9. Was out to the local park on the football field. It just rained a couple days back, so the ground was moist. Usually these conditions mean that deep wheat pennies or silver is easier to get to. Today I hit a 33 in Park 1, recovery 4, 50 tone, and all metal. I thought there was a possibility of a silver quarter, but to my surprise there was a silver ring instead. Looks like it may be from the 1940s. It was resting on top of a clay layer under the sandy surface. I think there were 3 wheat pennies, but they are very crusted with sand.
  10. Out to some softball fields and surrounding grass patches for a few hours today. I was kind of cherry picking my way today because there were a lot of signals in the ground with the 15" on the Equinox running in Park 1, 7 recovery, 50 tones, and all metal. I was listening for high tones after I dug low numbers for the first half hour. There are many items in this ground that give over a 30 signal, so discernment is critical. The two aluminum tokens were not close to each other, but the dates are so close in time that it is uncanny. The ring is the heaviest silver that I have ever found. Its numbers alternated between 30-32. After thinking it was going to be a piece of flashing, it was a pleasant surprise! There is a screenshot of a ring with the same weight by the same maker on ebay right now. Lots of quarters and dimes today, one nickel, and mostly copper pennies. One more thing...it was cold. The weather today in Florida was in the 50's! No need to throw pennies my way northerners, just sharing my trials of life.🙂
  11. I got out for a night water hunter yesterday. I had hit a bunch of lead targets and the usual garbage. I did score a nice 10k ring at about 8 inches. It was easily heard with a short signature. I also hit a 14k gold chain and charm. My guess it was around 5 to 6 inches. It came up with the first scoop and the chain was exposed. It sounded like another lead fishing weight. Some of the fishing weights were over 12" and clearly can be heard. I just love this machine.
  12. Went out last night for a low tide wet sand hunt with the AQ. Got to the beach a little late, tide was already coming in so I was only able to hunt for about 2:30 hrs before the swells took over the slope. Pretty sanded in conditions but still managed a little clad and hit a surprise 2.2 gram 18k white gold diamond half band about 2 scoops down on the upper slope. Also pulled out a 1957D wheatie at some point. Took a pic of the settings I was running, I was in All-Metal for the entire hunt. Have I mentioned I'm a big fan of OBN's Big Battery? 😁
  13. I would like to thank the donner of this 583 earring for my first AU find of 2021. Beach find Jan 5. The AQ hit it hard!!!
  14. Was out today at a local park for a couple hours. We just had quite a bit of rain yesterday, so beware of fire ants! After making two trips to the park, having left my earbuds on the workbench the first time, the grass had a chance to dry off a bit. The True Love ring was first, about 4 inches down with a sold 9. I'm thinking it may be stainless, as there are no markings. The 14K gold came about 10 minutes later with a solid 11 down about an inch...maybe. This is the same park I found the gold turtle at a few months back. To cut down on penny retrievals, I tried ignoring the 19-21 numbers unless they were screaming. Was using the 15" on the Equinox in Park 1 with 7 recovery speed.
  15. I just came back from a night hunt. I went back to a beach where I had been with my son in the morning and found one of his lost toys. That was a good sign. I walked a couple of miles patch hunting with the 15" coil on my 800. I found penny patches and an ear lobe ring but it was pretty slow. On my return trip I got a few quarters and one earring. I had still enjoyed my 3 hours. I got back to the area where we had been in the morning and took a little break. When I resumed I walked about 10 feet in the damp sand and got a target. It was shallow so I carefully scooped and I got a glimmer. It was all in the scoop. It had balled up in the sand only about 1-2 inches deep. It had the nice deep colors but I didn't have my glasses. (Should I take another break? haha) This was just over an hour ago. I was near my starting spot and car so I got there and looked. I couldn't read the mark so I had to use two reading glasses and a little flashlight and voila it was 18k! I measured it at 24 inches and it weighs just over 1 troy ounce. (1.045 ozt/32.57g) Sometimes being 'lucky' is better than being good.
  16. I'm sorry for this silence but I've been out a lot of time, busy at work with deliveries... Months ago I was in a sort of "bubble", unable to take a smart choice on my next instrument for the future... Thanks to some angels here, I found the way to see the light again and the shine too some days ago... I just wanna say here that I wish Happy new year to all of You and a brotherly hug from Italy. Skull
  17. My wife really wanted to go to snorkeling at the beach today, but I have a landscape project to get started so I didn't want to go. She convinced the kids and I to go so off we went to a very popular spot in Maui. We went a little later in the morning so there were quite a lot of people already out there. I'm not one to care what other people think so I started detecting. There was a spot where the tide had washed out the sand a foot or so and that's where I focused on. Several curious people asked me if I found anything and only 30 minutes into the hunt I had a few coins. A father and son were very interested as I dug up a cent coin and I said I knew it probably was because it was a 20 on the target ID on the Nox 600. Sure enough it was. Now I am just learning to beach detect after being an avid nugget hunter for over 20 years. The father and son watched for a few minutes and I had another target. It was an 8 and I said probably not a coin, but a hair pin because I had dug one up a few minutes prior to them watching me and it was an 8. To my surprise hanging half out of my scoop was a balled up necklace! It was silver in color and turned out to be 925 Italy! It measure 26 inches long! A few targets later I got a tiny little silver ring, also 925 and has a couple tiny stones. Turned out the ring has cz also stamped in it so probably cubic zarconia. For an hour and a half hunt I ended up with the necklace, ring, fake gold ear ring, 7 cents, 3 nickels, 1 dime, and 1 quarter, 2 hair pins and 1 pull tab. I found another quarter but must have dropped it. I would have hunted a little longer but there were just too many people by 11:00 and I was almost getting hit by people on boogie boards since the tide was coming in. Going to try and get back out at sun up to another popular beach tomorrow! The beach next to my house doesn't get waves and surf so I probably won't go there. I hunted it at Thanksgiving and only got a few dollars in change from the dry sand area where people put there towels out.
  18. Gold rings number 2 and 3 today with Fisher AQ. The smaller ring was down at least 8 inches and the bigger ring was down at least 10 inches. Very faint signals and could have walked right over them. The rings were found in wet sand. This was my seventh outing with the new detector. Still struggling with some falsing. Any advice would be appreciated. Mostly from a left to right swing. I do take extra precaution to make sure I am not arcing the swing. On a fully charge battery I can run pretty hot and it will be quiet. About an hour into the hunt I need to make adjustment. Today the battery lasted about 2 hour 45 minutes using ALL METAL mode. Eventually I was running with a delay of 10 than switched to 11, sensitivity of 8, ATS was either at a 3 or an 8. I also had to lower the threshold to the point of silence. I don't like running it that way but I hit both rings in the position. I also hit a couple of deep nickels that were 12 to 14" easily.
  19. Dug the woman's diamond, 14K (2.1 g) within the first 30 minutes of today's hunt. Got the man's 14K wide band (4.6 g) at about the 3 hour mark in the hunt. Equinox, 15 inch coil, Beach 1, wet sand.
  20. With the recent big surf and good lunar tides I thought that my last hunt of the year could be a good one. However, It wasn't looking too good after about 4 hours of detecting and I only had about a dozen or so coins when I scooped a darkened silver ring out of the wet sand. The "infinity" design prompted me to look inside the ring hoping to see what I did see- "Tiffany & Co.". Later I added another ring which I thought was silver but it turned out to be plated. I looked up the ring on the Tiffany web site and was surprised at the retail price on these: https://www.tiffany.com/jewelry/rings/tiffany-infinity-ring-GRP08642/ It was a nice way to end the year. Happy New Year everyone!
  21. 2020 was a forgettable year but, strangely enough, it was my best year of metal detecting finds in 50 years despite taking 2 months off for Covid restrictions. Being fully retired now has given me time to go detecting more often and time to learn how to better use my favorite detectors- Equinox 800 and TDI Beachhunter. I don't remember a year when it seemed that the finds just kept on getting better and better culminating with the find of a lifetime at the year's end. I did my yearly summary a bit early since I don't know if I'll get out again this year. Hope you enjoy it! Happy Holidays! GL&HH!
  22. Cold day but I wanted to try out Docs Gold Screamer setup on my GPX that I got for Christmas. Paired it up with the Garrett z-lynk system and boy is it nice to be wireless. Anyway in a 3 hour hunt I found a 10k 8 gram ring, some brass buckle parts and some older coins. They're hard to see so what's pictured is a wheat penny, merc dime, Jefferson nickel, 3 buffalo nickels and a V nickel.
  23. I think you know where this is going. Back in early October I posted about finding half of an 18k, rose gold, Cartier Love Bracelet deep in the wet sand on one of my local beaches. Here is another picture of that find: I convinced myself that the other half of the bracelet was still in the same area waiting to be found and looked for it on every hunt since then- maybe a dozen times or so when the conditions seemed right, day or night. Some of my friends thought it was a bit foolish to do so because someone may have already found it- if it was even lost in the first place. In the meantime I would be missing out on other more productive sites they said. However, I reasoned that while looking for the other bracelet half, I would find collateral finds and, sure enough, the spot produced a few gold rings and assorted silver rings, chains and earrings. Earlier this week, conditions looked promising for another recovery attempt with extreme tides and impressive swells in the forecast. However, I was having one of my worst hunts in recent memory with only a couple of lightweight pieces of trash in over an hour of detecting. When I got a faint whisper of a signal, the kind that makes you question if it is just your imagination, I scooped out several mounds of wet sand and the detector was now screaming loud over the pile of excavated sand to the side of the hole. I looked down and saw a half-oval impression on top of the mound. I reached down and felt the object and at the same time saw a familiar rose gold colored half-bracelet in my hand. I have had a few surreal moments while detecting before but I don't think that anything will ever top this one when I truly questioned if what I was experiencing was real. I turned the bracelet around to see the "Cartier" logo that I knew would be there since it wasn't on the other half that I had already found. Funny but at that instant I had one of those "deja vu" moments of having been there before. I went and sat on the beach "cut" to collect my thoughts, offer a prayer of gratitude and enjoy the moment. I didn't have my cell phone on me for fear of it getting wet but when I got to the car I took a quick picture: And, of course, a couple more when I got home: The two pieces fit together perfectly! There are minor scratches on the bracelet that I think were already on it when it was lost. Hard to say how long ago the bracelet had been lost but my guess would be fairly recently because the 2 halves were found very close to one another. Some of my friends suggested that I not post about this find and I know that they have good intentions but I felt that this experience had to be shared. I have learned a lot from this experience. I have little concern if this story leads to a reunion of the bracelet with the person who lost it. In fact, I am already taking steps to try to return it. I, and many other hunters, know that the real thrill in detecting is in the finding- not in the owning. Thanks for reading- GL&HH!
  24. This is my second time out with the AQ. Still getting to know it. My guess the ring was 8 to 10 inches. I hit it pretty easy. I also hit quarter, a lot of can slaw and hot rocks. I was running the unit in TONE mode most of the time. I really do like it.
  25. I finally found my first gold ring and a couple of silvers too! I was using the Nox with my 6" coil in a super trashy park and found two silver rings down about 5-6 inches under the trash layer and the 14K white gold ring was mixed in with trash just under the sod layer. That was a happy day. 😉
