My first 6000 was faulty out of the box which they replaced with a new one. I've had the new one for 21 days and probably used it 8 days before it went bad. When i was boxing it up to ship back i heard something rattling inside of it, not good. In researching i found that they've known them to have major issues since March or April, yet they have refused to address the issue with a production stop or at least look at the different production runs and recall those units. I think when it's all said and done there will be a substantial number of them that are faulty worldwide. As it stands now, Detector Center states that there is a" temporary" 10- 14 day time frame for repairing them. My bet is that it's not going to be temporary. If this failure rate continues there may be grounds for a worldwide class action lawsuit, who knows. Oh, and i owned a business for 40 years. Not a very smart way to run a business. JMO.

Well my staff/I just finished the season and wrap up of field training for 2021 and our customers...and boy did it go out with a bang and big belly's thanks to Chef Rusty Bucket. Smoked ribs, Bourbon shrimp in garlic sauce, berry pie and ice cream, smoked Brisket, bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos and more. Wish I would have taken more pics of the food. As I have said before, the food/drinks/people are part of why I enjoy these trips, as I know the gold will eventually come. As many know, Gerry’s Detectors has been training out there at the burn barrel with a few different staff members since the 90’s. We have been using just about every model of gold detector from the top manufactures as well as coils to see what the best results are. The comparisons of customers detectors continue to see the improvements of technologies and capabilities which is what we want. Yes there are times a more expensive detector may not produce the best signal response on that particular targets, but it’s what it is and part of learning. Some of what we found most amazing and it’s exactly what I expected would happen during the training at RP. The gold nuggets being found during the 3 days of class was the most of any session in at least 5+ yrs. More people went home with actual Rye Patch gold than what my staff/I have witnessed in quite a long time. The knowledge shared was the same stuff we always go over, but the knowledge retained was higher. The class size is usually around the same, but the amount of golden smiles of success was better than many yrs prior. We know the VLF detectors when fit with small coils are going to find a few pickers, but to see the bigger PI machines perform so well and produce such higher %’s of beautiful NV gold was most impressive. So lets go over it again to see what my Staff/I observed, in no particular order. Knowledge of customers detectors was actually retained, smiles of happy customers making the right choice of detectors, the amount of successful customers who went home with gold and the overall numbers of gold nuggets dug by the students. There is one thing that I corollate all these positives and it’s the new GPX-6000, period. Yes we had SDC-2300’s, GPZ-7000, GPX-5000’s and the usual VLF’s in the class being learned by the students and those who were there with the GPX-6000 had the most Success. But the success of gold nugget finds was just part of the fun. Ease of operation and simplicity we’ve never seen from a PI Minelab was also most impressive. The customers were actually not afraid of their detectors. They didn’t worry if the timing and or sequence of adjustments was correct, as the GPX-6000 is pretty much a turn on and go. The old way, a big multi page instruction manual (is missing) and now we get a 3 step Quick Start…and it’s true. 1) Turn On. 2) Raise/Lower Coil for 10s, 3) Begin Detecting. Are you kidding me, no way that can’t be true. We just paid $6000 for one of the latest technology fine tuned gold detectors in the world and all we get in the box to help learn, is 3 short steps with a combined total of 10 words? Well folks, it’s all true and so is the amount of happy customers who invested in our training and the new GPX-6000. If anyone thinks there was some other reason for the above, please chime in as all indicators are bulls eyed at the GPX-6000. Overall the trip went exceptionally well consider the 100 yr rain storm that came through while we were down there. I still love the natural beauty of Northern NV in the fall and the colors on the gold nuggets we dug. Hopefully the Spring/Summer class will be just as productive with a group of new enthusiastic customers and more gold being unearthed.

Hello All, The new Minelab 17" Elliptical Searchcoils for the Minelab GPX 6000 have been flying off the shelves, definitely high demand. Due to the high demand, I haven't had much time to use one, everyone ends of taking mine ... LOL I haven't seen much larger gold being found at depth yet, but I'm sure it is. Curious how people and past customers are doing with this new 17" Searchcoil beyond covering more ground quicker? We still have a few left in stock from the last large shipment and more on the way if anyone is still searching for a new "Christmas present.!" Hahaha Would love to see some pictures or at least hear about any success with the new searchcoil. Each time I try and ground balance my 6000 there is no detectable change. While holding the GB button I pump the coil then move it side to side. It’s like it don’t work. I friend of mine says his does not either. What am I missing? I run in manual mode with the threshold on. The noise cancel works very well.

Went to some old dry wash workings under powerlines to try out the 14 inch coil. This little guy was hiding just beneath the desert pavement near the old workings within 30 ft of high voltage overhead lines. Over the course of a couple hours dug multiple trash targets including small lead shot. Not the easiest coil to pinpoint with, but small targets in high EMI impressed me. Desert north of Yuma. Mike

I purchased the GPX 6000 from @Gerry in Idaho a few months back and had only taken it out once for about 45 minutes and had to put it away because it was screaming at me due to iron scattered everywhere. Fast forward to this past weekend, I went down to Rye Patch to @Gerry in Idaho's training to really get out and try this thing out. I ended the trip with 8 pieces totaling 3.7 grams, cleaned. The biggest piece was pretty cool so I am including pictures of both sides of that one, 1.5 grams cleaned. All 8 were found right around the burn barrel area. Hey Guys, Well its that time of year where most of the US Prospectors are searching for gold, in the Southwest at least. I managed to get out this weekend with some friends, just roaming around some old stomping grounds in hopes to turn up a few bits missed years prior. I was toggling between my GPZ 7000 with the NF 12" coil and my GPX 6000 with the 11" coil. My other two friends were using the GPZ 7000's with the stock 14x13" coils. Later in the day I can across some old piles left from prior mining and got a softer sounding signal and decided to investigate. My friends both had a few dinks now, so I was behind on the gold count. There's a lot of left behind rubbish in this area due to prior mining, hardrock and placering. I figured it was just another deep nail or something, but as I got down deeper, the target was actually on bedrock below the pile. I ended up scratching everything away from the bedrock and pinpointed the target in a crevice or depression (seen in picture below). Low and behold, it was a nice gold nugget, 4.6 Dwt's, just shy of 1/4 Troy Ounce. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least, didn't expect it. I thought this would be good time to see if my Minelab GPX 6000 would hear this target with the stock 11" coil on it. I walked back to my truck, got the GPX 6000 and hiked back to the target location. I figured this would be a crude, but interesting test as there is so much debate on depth and how now many believe the GPX 6000 is better. I fired the GPX 6000, balanced and make sure the EMI was good, then scanned over the target area with the nugget back in it's original location. I couldn't hear a peep of a signal, which honestly is what I figured. I didn't expect to find it, or hear it with the GPX 6000. I played around with a few settings and even had my buddies come over to check it out. They both scanned their stock coils (GPZ 7000 with 14x13") over it, both heard the target, but it was still faint (not a super obvious signal). This is one reason it's hard for me to put down the GPZ 7000, I have found many nuggets at depth, but deal with the heavy, bulky unit. I thought about going back and trying the 14" DD to see what it would have done, but for the most part, I never use the 14" DD, so it wouldn't have really proved anything to me, as I don't use it. It would have been interesting to see what the 17" coil would have done, but I didn't have it with me. I would think the 17" would have heard it. I'm swinging the GPZ 7000 with the NF 12" Round coil 90% of the time, the GPX 6000 about 10% of the time. There are some bedrock gullies I have revisited in years, so I'm looking forward to spending more time there with the 6000 and 11" Mono coil. I think I also might be able to pack the GPX 6000 into a few canyons as I wasn't easily able to do that with the GPZ 7000. Here are a few pictures below. I didn't have a tape measure, but Doc's pick is 22" handle length. I'm thinking between 18-20 inches was the true detection depth, but faint signal for sure.

I run in manual 8 9 and 10 normal ground when in auto auto 2 normal ground this is for northern Calif. When the ground is wet from the rains I switch to difficult ground . With the gpx 6000.. For Nevada with the gpx 6000 do you guys prefer manual or auto sensitivity

How many hours run time are most of you guys getting on a set of gpx 6000 batteries 7.5 for me with no back light

Does the 6 eventually ground balance out a faint target that repeats from multiple directions in the beginning....like the GM1000 will do in auto? I run the 6 in manual mode 99% of the time..... This one area I've been working off and on lately has me frustrated because I've had quite a few faint repeatable targets that I end up walking away from because I loose the target and move on because time is too precious. My thought is that SOMETHING set the machine off....so something is there and I can't even seem to dig up even a hot rock or whatever set the machine off? It's driving me nuts trying to figure out WHAT is setting the machine off? I've dug many tinys with the 6 and currently at 98 nuggs with the 6 but this one area has me baffled with my walking away from several targets? Only this particular area has me scratching my head....I do ok anyplace else. Here's todays 5.5g nuggs despite the frustrating disappearing targets thingy.... Thanks for any input.....!!!!!

There seems to be some kind of update to the 6000. I haven't had time to read through it all and doubt I will get the time because I'm swamped with non-prospecting stuff. But I noticed a new FCC filing on the 6000 related to something along the Bluetooth lines last week, I can only hope it helps the EMI issues but I have zero idea.

The GPX 6000 has 3 coils which are all large. Does anyone plan on making a smaller ellitical coil for getting into tight areas ?

Early wet Weather in Northern Nevada, sure messed up a few of my hunts! But, this last Hunt was called Rain or Shine! Be there or miss out with the original hunting party. We had half the amount of coils on the ground during this hunt and managed to find a few sweet spots of dinks to add to our pokes. Rain on us with snow in the ground 200’ above us all 4-Days! 6000, Retune Button got a workout. I kept the 11” Mono on. Tried the DD for a few hours with no luck, don’t know if the ground and line I took was bad, but the guys behind me where finding nuggets…so back to the 11”. My truck is out in the drive way in the wet Weather still loaded up with me gear! Getting wet again to unload it, I can’t wait 🤨 Until the next Hunt! LuckyLundy

After reading all items available I am confused. It's probably just me so I apologize if this is a dumb question. In soil that has low mineralization which coil will go deeper and is more suitable, a DD coil or a mono coil of equal size? Or in low mineralization does it not matter if you use a DD or a mono coil? Bill

Who has run the sp01 on their 6 I had a crack , with my cogs as well , but found the cables a pain in the arse ... Also with the 6,s headphones on 70% volume on the phones and the detector backed off a tad I hear the feint murmurs ok I reckon anyway 😃 I

So some of you know that my 6000 arrived defective right out of the box and that I sent it back to be replaced the morning after I got it. Well the new replacement arrived yesterday and the detector works as I assume it should. Well, at least it will sound off on a nugget, so I assume it is working properly. I have the 14" DD on to test that out. When I picked up the 11" to pull it out of it's plastic bag, I noticed something odd on the top of the coil. There was a crescent shaped crack in the coil. What in the world is going on with Minelab and their quality control.?!! People spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on their detectors, you would think they would be more strict and precise with their quality control procedures. I sent the 11" coil back to be replaced, this morning at 9 am. It is possible it could have happened in shipping, however the inner box and shipping box were in great condition. No smashed areas anywhere on the boxes. Anyone else want to chime in about their particular Minelab detector defect. If Minelab is reading this, you have alot of people out there spending alot of money on your detectors because they are the best-Hands down, but it seems like since the sdc2300 came out the quality control is going down hill. I understand some defects can get by or crop up over a little bit of use, but this is not good.

Yes I finally did get a chance to hunt for larger gold with the GPX-6000. This video has some quirks and I am sorry. Shooting video is not my expertise as you can tell. Error #1 and many of us do it. Keep the phone Horizontal (left to right) to get full size viewing. Error #2, be sure to have someone else shooting the video while holding camera Horizontal and not shaking as much. Now for the bit of info that many of you may have missed in this video. I won't reply with answer yet, but will give a hint "sound". So yes a get a little excited and yes I mumble and stumble for words. Heck I sometimes freeze up and slowly look around to make sure nobody sees it or me. I have heard other do that as well, why? What would you do?

as I already put in another post, I just bought a second-hand gpx 5000. It comes with the comander 11 DD and 11Mono coils. I would like if it is possible for a colleague to recommend a coil to complement the ones it brings. Its use would be to search for coins. I've been looking at the detech 15 inch DD ultra sensing. If anyone has used it, what can you tell me about it?

I had something strange happen, today. I had my GPX 6000 battery fully charged and fresh off the charger. It had completed its charge cycle and then trickle charged overnight. I popped it in the detector and started detecting. Within five minutes the battery meter dropped from three bars to two bars. If I turned off the detector and let it sit for a 5-10 minutes and then turned it back on, it would go back up to three bars for a short period of time before then going back to two bars. Has anyone else noticed this with theirs?

Hey all, still have a gpx 4000 I bought from AK M&D. Guess it's time for an upgrade. My Question is does the 4500 have enough improvements to justify the upgrade

I haven't seen very much conversation about the comparison between these two detectors now that the GPX 6000 is creeping into the SDC 2300's territory. So far, the GPX gets both smaller and deeper gold. Has anyone other observations?

I'm checking both out. Need some input by others.
