  1. Met up with a couple of fellow hunters to hunt a WW1/WW2 dump site, it was a button feast today. Also was able to score 2 mercs, a barber and a wheat. Overall a great way to celebrate Independence Day, thanks for looking.

  3. I've been meaning to post this for a while . After seeing the great finds GKman found on the Equinox forum, it reminded me to post this. Here is a shot of most of the brass Native American kettle points we found from an ongoing project. These points were found by 4 other hunters and myself. I get asked a lot of times from people that find their own points, how old are they? and what tribe do they belong to? The time period is easy, early to mid 1600's., but the attribution is more difficult. So we are in the process of starting a data base of points found while metal detecting. Since I am a metal detectorist, first and foremost , I informed them that the exact locations are not going to be disclosed ?. No one is going to give GPS numbers on their finds. The people I have worked with for the past 8 years are excellent people and are only interested in general information and a good, clear picture with a ruler or measurements (length and width). This data base will allow us to see where points are generally found and will eventually be able to attribute styles of points to actual tribes. I have only 1 point that was found at a cellar hole, on my own and have given them the information on where it was found. Only the town and state. That is all they needed. So if anyone is interested in contributing information (anonymously if you choose), I would be glad to log it in. Hope you enjoy the picture. It represents around 10 tribes that fought along side the English, against the Pequot tribe. If you have never had the privilege of digging one of those, I can say it never gets old. I have had the pleasure of pulling a lot of those points pictured from the dirt and the feeling is always the same ?
  4. Hello went back to the spot of my latest trench and decided to dig one longer,i left markers last week which were still there on thursday but were gone on Saturday ...........so i left some this time heavy enough that u need a bit of strength to move those rock.......I was equipped with the 9"HF 1 spade ,1 pickaxe and 1 Hodan pick.Weather was ok not too hot. The pickaxe really helped to loosen the compacted gravel, and i think with a bit of practice i will getter better at it.I detected the spoil once out ,and it was very easy with the deus to switch on and off. So i found: -1 Rose farthing -1 Nuremberg token -1 beautiful button from the 4th regiment of the East India Company -1 roman coin -1 strap of some sort probably medieval. I did found anything while refilling the trench(which is good) and i more than happy with the result as i still got 100s of trench to do on that spot but also i am the only one allowed as most of the license holders are scrapping only?.I also found a pretty long clay pipe Enjoy the work out RR
  5. Yesterday my buddy stumbled onto another hot spot at the 1850's site we've been hunting since the beginning of the year and found a Dragoon and an R button along with a really nice rosette. He wasn't able to go out today, but he gave me his blessing to head over and hunt it today. I'm sure he's not to happy about that now ? I got there at 05:30 this morning and right away period items began to come to light, dropped musket ball, pistol ball, percussion cap and a trouser button on the first pass. That's always a good sign when you start to pull some keepers right from the get go. On the next pass, a percussion cap, 2 pulltabs, a pistol ball and then I get a 21-22 on the Nox 800. We seldom get very many items that hit in the 20's except aluminum slaw or deeply buried aluminum cans, most hits are in the 9 to 19 range. I fully expected to dig a piece of trash and was totally unprepared for what came out, when I saw what it was, I just threw it back onto the dirt pile, stood up and started walking around stunned. A major bucket lister that I always wanted to dig, but just never figured I'd ever see come outta the hole, my first Spanish Reale. My goal for the day was to at least dig a Dragoon or maybe another R button. This was the last thing I thought would ever come from this site, I'm still in awe that I was privileged to find such an awesome coin. Somehow I was able to compose myself and continue hunting for another 9 hours and ended up with some excellent relics to add to my display case once I finish hunting this site. I did dig a lead, 1 piece button, my 3rd from here, anyone have any idea if it's period and what it's from? Once again my settings on the Nox 11" coil Sens 23 Recovery 4 Iron bias 0 No disc GB at 3-6 Park 1 2-tones Tone break -9 to +8
  6. Hello to all went for a bit of digging on Sunday ,next to home.I could not carry all the gear on the motorbike so i walked ,loaded like a Trooper from Easy company on DDAY.....peeps were looking at me i was expecting to hear: -NORMANDY??That way!!➡️➡️➡️!?? Anyway when i am digging alone on the foreshore i decided to do trenches long and not very deep to check the layers of different soils and try i took the GMPwith the elliptical coil on her maiden voyage. It is hard work and i was sweating like a pig ,and i am fit,i stopped at 2.5 feet So on the menu we got: 2 early clay pipes 16/17th century Pieces of crap and a brass bracelet The silver bit was found while testing the coil ,and the best find was what i think is a Pilgrim Pendant with a scallop maybe 12th century/14th century nothing amazing but why got to the gym when you can exercise doing what you love :):) Enjoy RR
  7. Still hunting the 1850's fort site that we started hunting around the first of the year and I was able to dig a few keepers. I started the morning using the CTX, but within 30 minutes, headed to the car to put her away. There's a time and place for the 3030, but, this place isn't it. Wandered around for a little while trying to get in tune, so I decided to hunt in between a couple of trees in an area we haven't put much pressure on. I stayed in that one area for about 7 hours and dug an unusual amount of epaulette debris today. I managed to score my first R button along with a Dragoon and a plain Eagle cuff. Targets were plentiful, so, we'll be back to give this spot a good working over. Towards the end of the day I dug a toasted copper coin that was banging 28-30, which after a little cleaning at home, it looks to be a mid 1800's Mexican 1/4 reale. This makes the fourth one to come out of here so far. My settings on the 800 were: Park 1 11" coil Sens 22 Recovery 4 Iron bias 0 2-Tone Tone break -9 to +8 Auto GB No Disc
  8. Spud Digger invited me to a Private Property hunt last weekend with about 25 other diggers. The site goes back to the 1860's. Now I wish all the finds were dated then, but the cabins were used and lived in in the 1900's Depression era too. Yes we find the occasional wheat cent from the 30's, but that is ok. We also get hunt the mining piles for gold nuggets, which makes this exact place a fun hunt for those who enjoy a variety. Anyway, my oldest US coin on this hunt was an 1890 Indian Head cent, as well as a couple Chinese Cache coins, a lead soldier on a horse, a coin size sterling flower piece, a cute little shoe bottom (either a child or a Chinamen?). Also recovered the normal suspender clasps, buckles and a few eye candy glass buttons. Even a non metal knife sharpener was spotted in one of my digs. One of my favorite finds besides the "Idaho City, Idaho" token (I love local history saves), was the tire pressure gauge. But the best find of the trip by anyone (at least in my opinion) was the 1918 State of Idaho Chauffeur #1159 Badge. Part of what made this find so unique is the lady digger who found it, was sifting for bottles and not even using a detector. If anyone can share some light on the badge, please let us know.
  9. I wanted to get this posted on the anniversary of D-Day. I'll let the picture of this copper plaque speak for itself. The back story is personally significant, but is inconsequential to the recovery itself. I am honored to present it to this forum on this date.
  10. It seems some of the best treasures are right under your feet in places you would not anticipate to find them. I've been having fun hunting for WW2 artifacts 5 min from where I live. Work has been busy so I've managed a couple hours here and there over the last 3-4 weeks. Camp Stoneman was a military base in Pittsburg Ca (the town I grew up in). From what I understand the soldiers in this camp were headed to the pacific theatre. My grandfather used to drive a bus to transport the soldiers from the camp to the ships waiting at the river. When I was a kid I used to hunt jack rabbits in the old abandoned camp with my bow and arrow. Those fields are now gone and so are any remnants of the old camp but I've managed to find some dirt here and there that has not been built over. My favorites so far are the two officers hat pins one silver the other brass. The navy airmans button, the Japanese coin is from the late 1800's, a toasted SLQ, several Rosies and a 1945 silver dime from the Philippines and the Captains bars from a helmet. Being we just finished celebrating Memorial day and now D-Day is upon us once again I thought it a good time to post these pictures. RIP to our brave soldiers who never got to live the life we sometimes take for granted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Stoneman strick
  11. A friend and I spent a couple days swinging around a couple junk filled ghost towns. I am very familiar with the Xp deus. I had also brought with the new to me Xp ORX. I spent my time swinging both the deus/ORX with the 9 Hf, 9x5Hf and my LF 11x13 coils. I found some good stuff and was really able to put the new ORX to work. I kept the ORX equipped with the 9x5hf coil. Deus with 9Hf coil. Also have my 11x13 on a straight shaft to easily switch to that. These site have been hit hard over the last few years by me and a ton of other people and have seen 3 to 4 large group hunts. Heres a few pics
  12. Got out with the Equinox again to do a little civil War era hunting. I hunted a fort that was occupied from 1851 thru 1862. I dug a lot of trash but I managed to rescue a few keepers.
  13. Hi guys. Here's some finds made with the Eqx 8000 on monday. Was pretty happy with the outcome. One Chinese coin and the Broach was in some fairly hot ground under some rocks and mineralised clay from an old lead throw out heap. Around 8 or so inches roughly. I like the 800 but it really is screaming out for a 10 inch elliptical or similar. Some type of solid coil.
  14. Tom and I have detected this stage stop several times and were eager to return after our last trip there produced a rare $5 gold coin (tu) GL&HH, Cal
  15. Had a great day hunting in West Texas at a very target-rich environment. I was using the 800 equipped with the 6-inch coil, that's a deadly combination ?
  16. First outing with the bigger 15”x12” coil for Equinox. At first today not as windy but as the day progressed super duper windy. Hunting same site basically where the 3 silver bits/coins were found this past Friday. I used the coil for aprox 2.5 hours. Not a bad feel using this coil on Equinox. A minesweeper for sure. Only run in field 2 speed 5 iron bias 0. Sens at 23 and detector was very stable. I think it helps to have some Nox time under your belt land hunting using stock before one embarks using this monster coil. Second target of the day about 2.5 minutes into actual detecting sweeping time another BINGO. Another Spanish cut bit real small. Even smaller than the one I found with Deus Hf elliptical coil some time ago about 500 yards from where I was today. Buried undisturbed it read 14/15 on sweeps. When plug was dug and inverted signal jumped to 20. My friend Scott got target out of plug and sure enough another bit. I apologize for the wind. But figured these bits don’t come easy. Had to show some video. On a side note. I changed to stock coil and the wind got real stiff. Like 30 plus and even higher gusts. I couldn’t hear very well using my wi stream module and Walkman style headphones. Remember now I have quite a few hours of hunting using Wi stream in this site. So I turned on the Bluetooth and proceeded. I instantly could tell/hear the delay. After 10 minutes they went back in the truck and I again put wi stream setup back on and kept going. Not all finds shown in this short video today. Will post a few pics. Also I talk iin this video. The detector used to try and see if it can hear the bit before dug was actually a Kruzer 14 detector with 11” dd coil of off my Anfibio multi. I said in video in one spot it was a Anfibio multi. Not true. This big Coil seems can strike small targets. Here is pic of Spanish bit. Quite a bit thinner than US clad dime. Clad dime in pic for scale. Likely this bit off of a 1700s era coin.
  17. Took the ole Nox 800 for a spin back in same site I have been hunting for the least week or so. Only ran the Wi stream module with the Walkman style headphones. Field 2 speed 5 all used to detect. I surprised myself big time. Pulled a for sure 2 silvers, one a cut reale, the other a whole coin Spanish, and I think I actually dug a hammered silver if you can beleive that. All 3 dug about 15 feet in a triangle from one another. Not all finds videoded. The first cut Spanish bit I thought I videoed but file got corrupted somehow. Did turn camera back on though and showed the first. The rest of the Spanish shown in the video. Nox rocks, I have spent loads of time where these silvers came from. And never did dig one in the past here. With any detector. Granted I dug a fake bit a few days ago down the hills somewhat from where I was today. But this bit thicker as it come from fake Spanish dollar I think. The bits and coins today extremely thin. Loving the Nox with the Wi stream module. Enjoy the video. Will post a few pics. I tried to alter lighting so some detail could be seen on these when using iPad to take pics. The bit chopped in half 1778. The coin is 1767. Look closely at the coin I think younsee see some lettering and numbering. Coin is worn badly.
  18. Spent the last 5 days in Nevada dodging the rain, snow, sleet, mud to save a few goodies. Here are some of the pictures. Now it is time to Train Customers on their detectors.
  19. Had a pretty good day using the Equinox 800 and the 6-inch coil at a fort that was occupied from 1851 to 1862. My settings were ...Park 2 and Field 2.... Recovery speed 5....Iron bias 0....2 tones....no disc....22 sens... Tone break from-9 to +8.
  20. Pulled a few dodads & a dime. Also something similar to a buckle but has the word REEDS stamped over a bee. Says "Buy Reed Craft Bags", I think? If anyone can tell more about this find I sure would appreciate it, so share to your fellow beepers & history buffs.
  21. I'm not sure where to start, I had an epic day that I never thought I'd see. There are some things you never figure you'll dig and when you least expect it.... BAM!!! I met up with a fellow hunter to do a little relic hunting at a old fort site. His day started off with an 1846 Mexican 1/4 reale and then an awesome button, which he ended up finding 2 of. I started off with the usual lead and percussion caps and finally a 1846 Mexican reale as well. I was having a frustrating start with my wireless earbuds cutting out and the other pair not working at all. I tried using wired earbuds on the Equinox, but kept pulling them out almost everytime I set my machine down. Jimmy let me use his ML80's and that helped me settle down and get some serious hunting done. Jimmy ended up leaving after a few hours and I told him I was going to hunt for another hour and then head to the house. My goal was to at least find a couple of nice buttons to make a day of it, little did I know the fun was about to begin within the next 30 minutes. I worked my way around to the other side of where we had parked, and started finding more lead and a few more percussion caps. I got a screaming 25-26 hit on the Nox, I dug down about 8" and figured I had hit a can or something. I covered the hole, but, thought to myself..... that could be a buckle. I redug the hole and finally pried out a top of an old aluminum can. About 15 minutes later I get an almost identical signal, 25-27, but, when I pinpointed it sounded different. My thought was I was digging a silver coin at depth, so....I was quite a bit more careful with this hole. Almost 8" down I pop out a huge round thing it didn't register what it was until I picked it up and felt the weight. Then it hit me......no freaking possible way!!! I saw the back first, then turned it over, the front had about a 1/4" of dirt caked on it, I carefully rubbed it and there it was My first Union breatplate, something I only dreamed of finding and now there it was in my hand Thank God I didn't dig it like I had dug the other target, no dig marks on either side. Jimmy had found a US buckle a couple of years before, now, I had me a breastplate, something I never thought I dig.
  22. Between work and projects I've managed to get out on a few hunts. I bought my buddy an equinox 800 since he has been kind enough to let me run all around his ranches as if I own them myself. He has showed some interest in detecting...he thinks he's going to find a 1 pound gold nugget . After spending some time showing him how it works...I'd mark a target and then have him go over it and then dig it...he started to get the hang of it. So on our second outing he goes and finds a 1855 seated quarter (like Deathrays) but not in nearly as good condition. He was stoked and I wish i had brought my camera with me so I could get a pic of him smiling and holding the coin. Been hitting some other locations near where I live. Old homesites and street tear outs. Day before yesterday was a quick but pleasant hunt. Dug the standing liberty and put it in my pocket so it would not get banged up in the pouch. I never look at items much in the field but wait till I get home. I was glad I put this coin in my pocket. I'm going to have to get it looked at just to make sure but I think it's the real deal. If anyone knows what the sun god thing was? kinda cool digging it and have that smiling back. HH to you all strick
  23. Here is a photo of the finds that I had mentioned in a previous post. Nearly all of these finds were found on one small ridge that we had come to think of as being hunted out (using a variety of non-minelab detectors). Thanks for looking, MT
  24. Since Steve is looking for more pictures... I did get out Saturday afternoon. Temps said 30 deg, so figured it was a good day to see how my Vista Gold Gain likes colder weather. I have been addicted to using it since trading for it in August, in any site that is not too infested with modern aluminum. The part of the field I was hunting is usually very wet, and hence, freezes very solid...its kind of like frozen mud...once you disturb it...gets messy. The frozen solid layer 2 weeks ago was only about 2 inches...Saturday it was about 5 inches. A brief plug for anyone looking for a new shovel. I have had my Lesche 38 ground shark d-handle for more than 3 years now. It is indestructible. It was taking 3 or 4 jumps per cut to get through the ice layer...then I basically pried using my weight to get the plug up. The targets were mostly below the frozen stuff, so actually pinpointing and retrieving targets once the plug was out...pretty easy. This spot produces its share of buttons...didnt disappoint this time, either. VGG just nails the small stuff as easily as the larger items. The oval is a cufflink, it has a running fox on it...ozzie and I have both gotten multiple of these at this spot now, and I have multiples of the other ladies buttons from other hunts there as well. The object just to the left of the spoon....It is a cast item, as it has a seam. It is a decorative item, as it has two flowers on it. I will post other pictures if I can manage to get it cleaned up any better. Temps have been so low the last 4 days...no shot at detecting now unless it warms up for a week or two...i shall hope.
