Yes this is my opinion not a review. I’ve had my Simplex for a while but trouble finding the time to get out to see what it had to offer. i had done some air test with coins and several different gold rings. Then started notching out items I didn’t want to detect. After that I went back over the coins and jewelry I’d used for testing. The first problem was in some case I’d narrowed the notch too much without chopping the signal some. When I got it in the field with it in park I started swinging. The first thing that jumped out at me was the Simplex has super recovery speed. Checking everything that the Simplex has to offer I couldn’t find anything that I didn’t like about it . Maybe at a later date I’ll give a review on it but just my opinion for now. I will say that the 254.15 I spent for the Simplex + is the Best Buy you’ll ever make for the money. I told a friend earlier today that I don’t see the need to ever pick up my Sport again. Another thing I said that I don’t see the need for another coil being I was so happy with the coil that came with it . All the detectors I’ve had in the last few years would fall over ever time I put it down . Well today the sky opened up and every time I put the Simplex down it didn’t fall over not one time.. Chuck

I am not really looking for a new detector to add to my arsenal. I think my Deus, Equinox, and GPX cover the bases pretty well. I keep an MXT and F75 DST around mainly for nostalgic reasons (like a guitarist collects guitars) and because they were classic designs in their day with solid performance, features, design, and ergonomics bar none in the case of the F75. I laso keep my Tek Delta around because it was the detector with which I really learned how to detect and helped me form a passion for the hobby. Plus they all support concentric coils which are advantageous under certain conditions. So why was I still drawn to the two new low cost offerings by Makro and Minelab? There is always something refreshing about a stripped down, back to basics detector design that incorporates the latest tech and capabilities (e.g., Multi IQ for Vanquish, straight forward single frequency detecting with decent all metal capability, and a waterproof package for the Simplex). Why get another detector, when my main arsenal seemingly consists of detectors that should easily outperform either Vanquish or Simplex? The answer is simple, performance diversity. Hitting a site with a different detectors of diverse capabilities, features, performance usually pays of if you have the luxury of time and access. Last week, at several different types of CW relic sites in Virginia I was able to use the diverse capabilities of the three detectors I mentioned in the second sentence of my post and each delivered with keeper finds under the conditions to which they typically excel. The GPX penetrated deep into highly mineralized soils of those Virginia fields to snag a number of deep non-ferrous brass and lead targets including my first US Cavalry bit boss - a "bucket lister" for me. The Equinox with its Multi IQ capabilities and diverse modes (including gold mode) was able to ID and lock onto shallower no-ferrous targets in the mineralized muck of multiple non-ferrous and ferrous targets which enabled me to ultimately pull several non-ferrous keepers out of a single hole. And the Deus gave my tired arm a break while deftly navigating between huge chunks of big iron in pitch mode that enabled me to literally visualize the large target footprint of these big iron targets and as a result snagged some actual ferrous CW relics including stove leg and some antique door hinges and other unique ferrous keepers. So what does this have to do with Vanquish and Simplex? The Vanquish is a very capable entry level detector with some high-end features (Multi IQ) and a cool coil selection and neat stem design but, not surprisingly, very limited setting customization options and missing features that appropriately put in a couple of notches below the even the Equinox 600. Some of the missing features are quite frankly head scratching as far as I am concerned (e.g., not fully waterproof housing, lack of user firmware update capability, no single frequency mode option, and while the coil selection is compelling, those coils are not also compatible with Equinox - a missed opportunity IMO - confirmed with me in person by Debbie S of Minelab at last week's dig). Sometimes manufacturers tease higher end features into their new lower-end offerings that are otherwise not available in their mid or high level offerings. Other than the decent coil selection, there is no such situation here. The Equinox envelopes the Vanquish completely. Bottom line, the Vanquish is solid and provides "multifrequency for the masses" but brings nothing to the table for Equinox users. That is not slam, it is a fact and frankly is not unexpected. If the coils were cross compatible with Equinox, I might seriously consider picking up a Vanquish solely for the opportunity to use the coils on Equinox while getting a fairly decent emergency backup or grab n go machine in the process. But with the coils solely married to the less capable Vanquish and without the capability to wring the most out of them, it is a pass for me. The Simplex on the other hand is limited to single frequency and the emphasis is on solid basic performance and ease of use. Yet Nokta has packed it with some high end features such as fully waterproof, wireless ready (and cheaper than the wireless variant of the Vanquish), firmware updates (updates and bug fixes have already been released), and the promise of some decent accessory coils consistent with the Nokta track record on their other recent detector designs. So there are slight feature advantages that in the Simplex design that provide something a little more compelling in the "basics" than Vanquish, though Vanquish does have Multi IQ going for it. Since I do not own a Nokta or Makro detector, the Simplex provides the performance diversity that the Vanquish does not, IN MY CASE. This would not necessarily be true of those who might own a Kruzer, Anfibio or Impact. For those folks, the Simplex probably looks to them the same way the Vanquish looks to me or the typical Equinox owner. At this price point, the performance diversity is worth it. I get Nokta's signal processing which is lacking in my arsenal, a decent VCO all metal mode (which I prefer over the processed discrete tones of the Equinox in the non-gold modes) and the prospect of decent accessory coil choices with user upgrade-able firmware in a waterproof package. It is still entry level and fairly basic, but compelling to me from a performance diversity standpoint, nevertheless. Remember, this is only my opinion and is applicable to my particular situation based on the detectors I already own and the type of detecting I like to do (primarily CW and Colonial relic hunting). It should not be misconstrued as Simplex is better than Vanquish or that these detectors can outperform their more expensive and capable cousins. So do you find either the Simplex and/or Vanquish compelling even if you do own higher end detectors already? Discuss your thoughts below.

Hello all..as per customer requests and feedbacks, we have made the following updates on the Simplex+: Software Update (2019.10.25) : System Software V2.67 / LCD Software V2.01 1. Wireless Connection Improvements: The wireless connection quality has been improved. The pairing process with the wireless headphones has been simplified. You can download the new headphone instructions from this link. Wireless icon has been added to the screen. 2. Save function has been added: The detector will now save all settings automatically once you turn your detector off and on again except for Ground Balance, Frequency Shift and LED Flashlight On/Off. 3. Factory Defaults function has been added. To revert back to factory defaults please follow the steps below: Turn the detector on by pressing the power button. Once the Simplex+ logo appears on the screen, press and hold down the SETTINGS and PINPOINT/CONFIRM button simultaneously until 3 short beeps are heard. 4. Frequency Shift: Frequency shift channels have been optimized and dropped to 3 channels: F1-F2-F3. F2 is the center frequency. Copying my announcement on FB Simplex+ user group: IMPORTANT! Hello everybody.. As per my previous announcement, we had to stop the production and shipments for 10 days due to a coil issue we had experienced especially in the UK. As of today, production has resumed and we will start from where we have left off. One important change you should be aware of is that due to the material change, we had to make a slight change in the design of the coil to avoid any weight increase as per the picture attached. We will ship the new coils to all customers who have contacted us with a coil issue on Wednesday or Thursday the latest. Each customer who has given us their email address will receive an email with their tracking number. Another question that comes up is when will the second shipments go out? Please remember that we have many countries that have not even gotten their first shipment due to production and shipment halt for 10 days. I got a email the other day from the company telling me how great this new detector called Simplex is . I’ve already been reading about the Simplex on the forum here but I had to go over all that’s offered on it again. I don’t know where they ever came up with the name Simplex. Oh don’t get me wrong it looks as if a bird brain like me could run it .What I want is how they can sell it at such a low price with all this Simplex has other than just detect ? I’ve had different businesses over the years and when I seen the price of the Simplex . I was thinking maybe they haven’t heard the words of profit/loss. I see it now, everybody and their brother plus their sister with her kids will be out there swinging this so called Simplex. I guess we could start a rumor that your hair will fall out if you use one . That wouldn’t do me any good half of mine is gone already. Dilek I wish you the very best on the sale of the Simplex. A guy like me with nine grandkids and my two youngest just got married I need a less expensive detector. The Best! First off I am getting the Simplex primarily as a backup for my fresh water wading. It also has a chance to become my first choice as MF is not needed for fresh water hunting. I have used many single freq machine in the lakes here, 12 Khz and high gain should get it done quite nicely which leads to why my request for the proper coil. Wading for jewelry is all about area coverage, the more the better. To cover larger areas requires time and at my age the size of standard DD coils is a time limiting factor due to the resistance of pushing those DD coils thru the water. Looking at N/M's website they are already supplying a coil for the Anfibio/ZKruzer line that would fill the bill for me, the 9" concentric. Less drag will extend my hunt time and the real kicker, the increased sensitivity to small gold due to the concentric design. Please N/M give me my coil! Thanks for the pic Steve

For people who have impulse control issues, it is really disconcerting that the CAPABLE Simplex+ is priced near the impulse buy threshold. I have detectors that can do everything as well as the Simplex, but I am intrigued by the simplicity and VCO audio option in AM that I wish my Equinox had. This could prove interesting in mineralized dirt and may just be the design that finally compels me to get my first full fledged Nokta detector (if it had a higher single frequency selection option, e.g., 24 - 28 khz, it would be a virtual no-brainer). In fact, I am forced to think up weird rationalizations like if I get the Simplex+ with wireless HP, that would give me an excuse to pick up the wireless Nokta PulseDive pinpointer because I would then have a compatible Nokta detector to use it with. I want Simplex and I need help...

It seems like everyone has issues with the volume on underwater detector headphones. I am very much intrigued by the idea of using the Nokta/Makro vibration mode and no headphones at all for hunting in the water with a mask and snorkel. Not only a savings in money but a real potential boon for those who are hard of hearing anyway. This is a feature that deserves more investigation than it seems to have gotten so far. Vibration This feature provides feedback to the user by producing a vibration effect when a target is detected. It can be used independently or together with the audio response. When audio response is disabled, all responses during target detection are provided to the user as vibration only. When the vibration is turned on, the device provides short vibration signals upon target detection. The magnitude of the vibration effect can vary according to the depth of the target and the swinging speed. This setting is common in all search modes. To turn on or off the vibration, after selecting vibration in the settings menu, use the plus (+) and the minus (-) buttons. Vibration may not be felt in the All Metal mode with weak signals; it will be felt as the signal gets stronger. In other words, vibration does not start at the depth where the audio tones are heard but at a lesser depth. Therefore, if you are detecting with vibration only and audio tones are off, you can miss weaker and deeper signals. This was from a review on Simplex that Andy Sabisch wrote. “2) If the Target ID jumped around even when wiggling the coil a few inches side-to-side, it was always trash – can slaw, a ball of tin foil, etc. Remember, this is for coin hunting so relic hunting or hunting overseas, you simply need to dig those signals but for coin hunters, erratic TIDs = trash.” Foil tdi all over. If gold locks on this could be big, maybe.

14 September 2019 (Europe, Africa, North and South America timezones) may be a noteworthy day in metal detecting history. Both Nokta/Makro (at Detectival) and Minelab (on their own site as well as the sites of some partners) have given us details and hypberbole on their soon-to-be-released detectors -- Nokta/Makro Simpex and Minelab Vanquish. There certainly are a lot of differences, as well as commonalities. I look forward to others posting the details. (But I'm sure I'll add my own after some more contemplation.) "Competition is good" has been a mantra here for months if not years. We have it now, at least in the near entry-level detector zone. October 2019 Edit - the Minelab Vanquish has been officially introduced. See this thread for the latest news and information.

Has there been anymore information on when/IF the Simplex will be released? Seems like it would be a decent detector to throw in the vehicle for flash hunts, or lunch hour detecting. Looks interesting, and seemed to be priced right to sell. Wonder what the holdup is on getting it released?
