  1. As said I like both the Sport and the Nox face . The great thing about them as you hunt you can really look at the face of each and know what you have notched out . What makes the Nox even better over the Sport is you can notch out one number at a time . Oh I know the Nox has so many fine qualities over the Sport it will never have but like the Nox it has a pretty face . I don’t know why but a pretty face always tugs at my heart strings and a detector is no different. Chuck White's MX Sport Display and Controls Minelab Equinox Display & Controls
  2. I am very impressed with the High trash setting, and am trying to figure out how it is weighted you would think it had low sensitivity and high discrimination therefore would lead to less dept and more iron masking in thick iron areas at homesites but it actually performs to the contrary of my expectations. it goes very deep up to 12 inches and the discrimation level dose not interfere with separating iron from small non ferrous items I was using my equinox in all metal mode and my friend had his MX Sport high trash mode, we where at a colonial homesite, he has getting mixed signal of iron and a high tone and number he dug 5 big hand made square nails up to 6", and was still getting the good signal , when i cam over with the equinox in multi frequency all I was getting was iron, minus signals, with a flash of 11 but no enough to want to dig, and I predicted it was probably a false from a bent nail he kept going and eventually t 10" deep amongst more nails he pulled a penny My equinox never sensed this coin, yet high trash on single frequency spotted it at the onset and stuck to it like glue until it was finally retrieved. I would love to know the set up and weighting behind this mode some i could apply some to my equinox.
  3. Both the MX Sport and the Equinox 800 are waterproof and that’s about where the two are alike ends. Now if we want to put the detectors that have the option to run in different frequencies then how would you place them in price? I speaking about the ones that have other frequencies but still run only one at a time . Now remember the Equinox is at the top with a price of 899.00 and a true multi frequency. Would you want to slip it in between the Sport and the Equinox in price? Maybe we could lower the price of the Sport and place the ones we’ve been talking about in it’s spot.. Just thinking out loud but everyone has their own opinion. Chuck
  4. I need to know the type and size of the screws in the Sport ? Do you know if it can take a higher voltage without smoking it ? If anyone else knows the answer please do reply. When I get finish with my Sport we both may not know it. Chuck
  5. Hello I read somewhere that relic mode is the best to find all items at iron filled sites, as coin and Jewerly and Trash mode, can mask out keepers also how important is Manual ground balance?, as i was told the machine just takes care of it when you turn it on any help is great Thanks
  6. I don't go near water, which headphones should I buy? is there a way to set up headphones as wire less? Also best coil at colonial iron filled cellar holes?? Thanks
  7. I finally got to use my MX Sport today for the first time. In relics mode it was bouncing all over the place, switched to coin and jewelry and the machine performed better for me. Any advice for the relics mode would be appreciated.
  8. I just find it hard to believe I’m the only one on here that has a Sport. If you do I’d like to hear from you. Hey if not it how about the MX 7 . The only two in the news at this time is the Goldmaster 24K that will be out the 1st of August. The other just as well be in fantasy land and that’s the TDI Beach Hunter. If you got a White’s that you know Noah had before you, let’s talk. Chuck
  9. I’ve been trying to find the time to truly give the 6” Six Shooter coil a field test. I had the opportunity several times to give it that test but always fall short of what I wanted. Today I found myself in a school yard that I never hunted before. On the way in to what I would call a very large play ground area. They had to haul loads of sand in because it so deep I found it hard to walk on. I had fired up my Sport as soon as I walk in the play grounds. On the way to that beautiful deep sand that I was thinking it had to be hundreds of coins waiting just for me I past some very small bleachers . I made a swing a two but no luck. That sand around the swings was calling even louder now. I started my hunt around the first set of swings but to my disappointment not one coin did I find. This went on from one play area to another. Oh I’d find a penny now and then but not much I’d say to write home about. I’d walked back to the first swings that I had started from. Standing there I couldn’t believe I hadn’t no more than I did . My thinking it’s got to be someone hunting this school everyday. I’ve never walked away with something looking this good and so little. I was not to be put down so I started detecting again. After a few swings I got a signal within a foot circle all reading a quarter. Sure enough it was a quarter not just one but three. From then on I stayed away from the play ground equipment. I was finding pennies dimes with a quarter here and there. Yes I know any coil could have done what I’ve talked about so far. I was feeling so good on the coins I found so far I was going to hit those metal bleachers on the way out. The Six Shooter coil really was shining bright when I was hunting right under that bottom seat that you can see in the picture.I found more coins next to all that metal than I found in that big play ground. I know it’s more coins to be found under that little bleachers. I would have tried to move it but I think it would have made a change on my out look on life. I think the people detecting before me didn’t have a small coil like the Six Shooter coil like I did. If they had my finds would been lots less. If you don’t have the Six Shooter and you have the MX 7 or the Sport then you don’t know what you’re missing. Chuck
  10. I was in a bookstore and pick up a copy of Western & Eastern Treasure mag. I flipped over to the inside of the front page and low & behold was a big blow up of the MX Sport. You may say what the big deal being I have one. What put me in a state of shock Is when I read Waterproof Headphones Included. The price is the same as it always been. All I can say is people is if you’re looking for a great buy look no further. Look down in the left hand corner of the picture at the number of coils that White’s offer for the Sport. Chuck
  11. An error in VDI number and quarter/dime reporting has been noted in the early version of the new 6” concentric coil for the White’s MX series. I can’t imagine not digging anything reading in this range anyway, but it is something to be aware of. If nothing else it could affect resale value on the coils so if you have one and this is a problem it can be addressed under warranty once a fix is applied. Stay tuned.
  12. Like said when I turn on my Sport I get this frying sound for about 1 1/2 seconds..When I turn off the volume all the way I still get the frying sound coming through. I have other coils but this my first time of hearing this. If anyone else has this new concentric 6” please let me know if you too having the same trouble. I’m really not sure if it is trouble being the coil is working great. Chuck
  13. There are times when 6" is more than enough. I could take those jokes further but this is a family forum. https://www.whiteselectronics.com/product/mx-six-shooter-6-concentric-coil/ P.S. - Sorry this took so long Chuck. Been out of the office a lot lately.
  14. I have recently acquired a used MX sport.Looking for coil recommendations. I mostly detect fields, wooded areas and cellar holes during the short North East USA season. The beach (ocean) is the only option during the winter so I do make it out a couple times a month. The coils I see for sale are 7" DD, 9.5" Cons, 6x10 DD, 12x10 DD, 13 ultimate DD and the 15x12 DD Thanks, FWest
  15. After trying an MX3 I decided I did not like it so I got rid of it and got an MX Sport...so far trying it in my yard and test garden....I am one happy camper (detectorist). Now to really learn this machine.
  16. Hi all Just joined and would like some help.I detect in Cornwall UK and Spain’s Costa Blanca. Owned quite a few detectors over the years inc CTX 3030. The old Whites Spectrum (great detector) Thinking of buying a used MX Sport but really want to know if all the bugs have been sorted re the firmware upgrades, and is the warranty (2yrs ? )Transferable. Would appreciate any help
  17. This specification comparison chart is derived from the White's MX7 Owner's Manual and the White's MX Sport Owner's Manual. Everything is pretty straight forward. The asterisks note that the MX7 weight with batteries is derived from the manual. The MX Sport manual is unclear on whether batteries are included in the weight and my personally weighing the MX Sport with batteries suggests the answer is no. The MX Sport with batteries weighs 4.23 lbs. as weighed on my postal scales. I can't vouch for the MX7 weight as listed in the manual. Current internet price for MX Sport is $749.00 and MX7 $549.00 I think it is fair to say looking at the specifications that this is a MX Sport in a lighter weight, better balanced and less expensive package. The only real operational difference is the MX Sport comes with a 10" round DD epoxy filled coil and the MX7 a 9.5" round lightweight concentric. This would make the MX Sport out of the box better configured for water hunting and severe mineralization. The MX7 is better configured for park and other dry land detecting in mild to moderate mineralization. Both units can use the same coils. 18. hello fellow detectorist out there, Hi from a land far far away, my maxy have problem which when i turn it off , i cant turn it back on. The only way to get it to turn on is to pull out the battery altogether. Even when its on, it will turn off randomly. The way its shut down is like something pressed the on/off button ( what im trying to say is its turn off randomly with beeps like proper shutdown. Sorry cant describe it properly since english is not native. ) I have already done the factory reset and change new batteries, but the problem are still there. Is there any way i can rectify this problem on my own, if possible. Sending back to Whites will cost me money ( which i can add a little bit more money and buy new coil ?) and time. Thank you for your time and suggestion. Below is the findings for an hour of detecting before the problem arise ??
  19. What a weekend! I had the opportunity to head out to Idaho for an event put on by Spud Diggers/Ultimate Metal Detectors and meet some members of this forum who attended. Great group of guys on an old Chinese gold mine with an old townsite. Many layers of history going back from the 1870s to the 1930s, and lots of tin - yuck! I followed the Oregon Trail out there, and planned to represent the White's factory at the event since we were sponsoring the event. My fingers were crossed for relics, but I knew that since it was an active mine years ago there was a chance at finding some other types metal. So I brought it all - TDI SL, GMT, V3i, TreasurePro, and of course my go-to the MX Sport. Pretty quickly after running the TDI and GMT I realized that I would need a good discriminator and a strong magnet to get through the tin. The first thrill I got was seeing a newbie (Maddie) dig her first signal with an MX Sport - a 1940 Merc on the side of the road by camp. She was shaking when I caught up with her after hearing her holler out loud! Oregon Gregg was hitting IHP's and everyone was finding relics left and right with a few coins thrown in. Even I was finding some buttons, bullets, and a nice little pewter teacup from a child's play set. I found a flat area that looked like a prime spot where two creeks met. The area had been hydraulic mined, as well as dredged, with hard-rock mines in the area. I got a bunch of strange lower-conducting signals with the MX Sport and decided to dig one. They were about 6-7 inches down and rang up in the foil/nickel range on the MX Sport. My newly purchased HoeDag made quick work and the TRX helped me out since the targets were pretty small. What came out looked like a crusty booger. Underneath the crust it had a dull yellow shine. The mining report I read mentioned several different types of processes the miners used throughout the 80 years of active work, so I kept three pieces I dug from the same hole for examination later. There were other signals in that area to investigate but I had high hopes for a Chinese coin so I moved on. The rest of the hunt was awesome - lots of miles on my boots, awesome company, great food, and memories to last! After I got home I was too curious to wait, so I broke out the peroxide and a brush and got to work. Somewhere I lost the small BB-sized piece in the field photo between my fingers. But the bigger pieces made it home. Here's the finished product: I will admit I got a little shaky when I saw them start to shine in the peroxide. I got to meet Gerry from Boise on my trip, great guy and I figured I owed him this shot with the 2.5 grammer. Every time I find something new I get more and more hooked by this hobby. Thanks to forums like this, Ultimate Metal Detector, and of course WHITE'S ELECTRONICS, I can mark this off my bucket list. It took me over a year... but it was totally worth it! I was getting pretty frustrated at all of the skunks, and to find this much gold with the MX Sport, well, I feel pretty damn lucky! I need to do a little more digging to see what the crud on the outside was, but there was a lot of sulphide-bearing quartz in the area. I would guess that these nuggets were a result of some kind of refinement and processing and they were just missed by the old-timers. But I know where I'm going the next time I'm in Idaho...
  20. Hello there, After few months of heavy used at waterfall, beach and dirt, I'm happy that the MX sport didn't have crack, leakage issue . I'm still learning the language of the MX sports.. Still didn't understand about the threshold, what it use for, what does it tell me when the hum disappear in a brief of time especially at high mineralized ground like beach. And I still not confident using the relic mode, too much information its giving out for me . Thank you very much. HH
  21. Been thinking about picking up a 7" or 9.5" coil for the MXS. I've seen one review on YT on the 9.5 but nothing on the 7" They said the 9.5 looses very little depth over the stock 10" and pin points better. How much depth loss would the 7" have over the 10" and how well does the pin pointing work with the 7"? I've been detecting the fresh water lakes with a lot of trash and cant seem to hone in on my pin pointing. Thanks in advance. Sod.
