  1. Ok, I admit, this has been the worst week in years, thanks also to the fact that I am now limited by law to hunt in very few spots on my coast among the thousands available before. But preparing the Deus 2 in a scuba configuration for tomorrow morning, I'm really feeling like I've got it all wrong. Wrong coil due to the only 11 "available, no need of the ws6 headphones and last but not least, this horror shaft lenght! So the almost funny question is: how did You manage to dive with it? Shorter lower stem's lenght doesn't allow to hunt without upper shaft falsing noise. If I extend in the correct position the upper shaft part, there's no way to reach the coil area with the arm and to dig properly, not to mention the bonephones connector's cable contact with the shaft. The last forced option is to collapse it and have to literally face the remote among the forearm and the elbow. Can I be more pissed than usual?....Of Course...Apparently.
  2. Really wishing I had another set of the Quest headphones but since they're sold out what's the word on the Gray Ghost version for the Deus II?
  3. I always weigh the detectors as an important part of my testing procedure . 4. Jeff PM'd me and told me how bad the video was. I knew it was going to be bad with the EMI issue and I wanted people to see what reality is using the Deus 2 in the city. Out on my relic sites away from power lines, it is very quiet. I have a park about 3 miles from me that I can't even use the Equinox in unless I run the Sensitivity down to 18. I took the Deus 2 there a few days ago and I have to run the sensitivity down into the high 60's to get it quiet. For me and the soil I have, single frequency is really not an option. I literally get 4" on a dime with single frequency. You'll see in this next video the Deus 2 still gets about the same depth with the EMI under control. So a 6" dime with accurate ID is way better than the Deus 1 at 4" in my dirt.
  5. I've held off posting a video like this because of all the controversy with Deus 2 vs Equinox thing. Now that other people are getting the Deus 2 and showing that it struggles in mineralized dirt just like all other VLF's I decided to go ahead and post the video. I've said this to a few other people privately and I thank them for their comments and input. I actually filmed this test in my test garden 3 times over the past week and a half, deleted all but the last just to make sure I had all the programs in the Deus 2 figured out. I've been out with the Deus 2 on 3 different hunts about 4 hours each and I'm seeing the same results as this test show in my soil. So if you have higher or lower mineralization this probably doesn't apply. I've used the Deus 1 for about 6 years, so I'm not new to how it operates and the Deus 2 is very similar to the Deus 1. Just today I went out to a relic site and confirmed what I'm seeing in the test garden when I compare signals Deus 2 vs Equinox. I'm personally not getting rid of the Equinox, the Deus and Equinox are still yin and yang IMO. The Deus 2 in my city has a real issue with EMI, more so than the Equinox. It's going to be tough using it in a park around here. Might just be the 11" coil, I hope. Looks like Paystreak has the same EMI issues with the 9" coil as well. Some may ask about the relic program because I don't show it in the video. I will say it hits the deeper targets, But the results are still the same as the other programs in the video 00 ID.
  6. Alright, no snickering. This is a serious comparison. For those that have never used a Simplex, it is pretty impressive. Deus 2.....I have never used one. Paystreak Superfreak sometimes makes some weird videos. I do weird stuff too like metal detecting at 30 degrees F in 4 inches of snow.... This video is no nonsense and very accurate from my experience. This is a test on three US coins at 6" in disturbed freshly dug high magnetite and volcanic particulate dirt. For those of you who are fortunate to hunt in mild soil....now you are getting a good idea of how bad it can get just in someones back yard. My backyard dirt looks almost exactly like Paystreak's. Detects about as bad too. By the way, the Equinox does not like highly iron mineralized freshly disturbed ground either.
  7. I found this content really useful...Especially If someone likes to dive with the machine and wants a short setup like me.......
  8. I should be getting my new deus II by next weekend. I’ve been using a Whites TRX for the past four years and I really like it. The thing I don’t like is that it’s not very loud and I have to pull one side of my headphones off to hear it. The MI6 connects wirelessly to the deus II so I’ll be able to hear it through the headphones which would be really nice (at least I think so). How does the MI6 stack up to the TRX in performance though? The only other pinpointer I have is a deteknix (Quest) Xpointer which works well, but isn’t quite as deep as the TRX and not nearly as sensitive to small items as the TRX. So with my limited experience with pinpointers should I spend the money on the MI6?
  9. I have owned the D2 for 3 weeks now and to get used to how the D2 performs, I have focused on hunting the wet sand. I have also used it wading in the surf and tidal pools on the beaches in and around Cape Town. I have also managed a short dive of about an hour with the D2. I normally spend 80 % in the water and 20% on wet sand. Wet sand. I am really enjoying the D2 on the wet sand and it makes me want to spend more time on the wet. I can run the “Beach Sensitive” program all the way down to the water line without any hassles. It is really quiet on the wet sand with sensitivity at 95+ and reactivity at 1. In the tests I did, I managed to replicate Calabash’s 16 inch nickel test and had very similar results. In the tests I did there is very little depth difference between the “Beach” and “Beach Sensitive” programs. When using the “Dive” program on the same Nickel test, I lost about 4 inches in depth. When comparing my CTX and Equinox on the same tests, the D2 out performs both the CTX and Equinox. Although I love Minelab, I will have to give it to the D2 on low conductors in wet sand. I also really like the option of being able to store so many custom programs, as this comes in handy when wanting to double check a signal. Wading, waist to chest deep in surf and Tidal pools. I have been using the D2 at a family beach which I hunt often, as this beach has moderate waves, 3 – 6 feet. I found that in the water, using the Dive Program the D2 is very quiet and stable. I tried “Beach Sensitive” but it was not useable in the water as it was too unstable. I did manage to run the D2 in the “Beach” Program in these conditions, but I only used it for a short time as the “Beach” Program wasn’t easy to work with. I think that with a bit of practice you would be able to use the “Beach” Program in the in these conditions. There was a bit of a back wash and D2’s shaft would pick up a shudder as the water pulled back, but as I went deeper into the water, this became less of a problem. I swapped detectors with a friend and used his Equinox on an original standard shaft and there was no shudder or flexing of the shaft in the same condition. As great as the Bone Conduction headphones are for diving, for wading I would prefer a good set of over the ear Piezo’s”. I am sure someone will be selling Carbon shafts and Piezo headphones for the D2 soon and this will definitely add value to the D2’s performance in surf. The last 2 weekends I spent time with the D2 in a tidal pool comparing different settings in the water, without the added interference of waves. I placed a number of low conductor coins at different depths 8,10 and 12 inches. Again the D2 was very quiet in the “Dive” program, even at 98 sensitivity, but as with my tests on the wet sand, you lose about 4 inches in the “Dive” Program. I played around with the “Beach” Program again to test it in calmer water. I tried lots of variations of the sensitivity, reactivity, salt sense etc. It’s hard to explain in words, but the “Beach” program doesn’t false but the does have some fluttering sounds and a lot of back ground noise. You can hear the waves as the water depth changes, similar to a PI. I found that a targets signal does come threw the background noise, but you have to be paying attention to hear the target and coil control becomes very important. Using the “Beach” program gave me a little more depth compared to the ‘Dive” Program in water, but when I compared the D2 to the CTX on the same target, the CTX outperformed the D2 and the CTX was more stable. In my opinion, the CTX has about 2 inches over the D2 in my water tests. I am hoping that with some more time spent with the D2, I will be able to squeeze a bit more out of it in the water. But at this stage I would say I prefer the CTX in the water. I am looking forward to hearing what the other water hunters come up with once they have tested the D2 in salt. I am sure some people will get better results and others will get worse results, but these are my results and thought s on the D2 in the conditions I tested it in and I thought I would share them with those who haven't been able to get a D2 yet.
  10. two euro coin at 25 cm, 30cm, 35cm and 40cm. I'm not impressed at the moment. My equinox 600 has the same or better result and much more stable without commenting that it costs half what the deus2
  11. Just a question for the guys who have used the legend and the deus. I have a deus and was wondering how the recovery/reactivity compared?
  12. Any word yet on a smaller coil? I assume they will be coming out with a 5"x9"...sure would love if they ever made a 5" round for the really iron laden sites.
  13. I am starting to think the main goal with D2 was saltwater. XP already has machines aimed at dry land coin and relic (Deus 1), and a gold nugget detector (ORX). To expand the line, beach was the obvious weak spot, and marketing says cannibalizing existing product sales is a bad idea. Multifrequency has long been considered better than single frequency in a salt environment. And the Deus 2 being designed for up to 60 foot immersion screams water detector. That, and all the photo emphasis on the website showing underwater use. I sold detectors for decades. Here is the discussion I want to have. Person says they want detector, I say “what for” - what is the primary goal? Most machines are multipurpose now, but what’s your main interest? If it’s coins and relics I’ll probably say get a Deus 1. If it’s gold prospecting, I’ll probably say get the ORX. And salt water beaches, then get the Deus 2. Simple, makes sense, a salesperson would love it. We could talk about D1 vs D2 for coins and relics, but I’d point out the D1 is a better price, way more coil options, and a proven winner. Or, if you are the sort who wants the latest toy, and I’d know fast, I’d shift you to the D2 instead. Long story short, if your product line is missing key categories, it makes more sense to fill that empty slot, then to replace something you already have. Once a company fills all the slots, then upgrading old models in a round robin fashion becomes the norm, as with Minelab at this point. Newer companies like Nokta/Makro and XP are still filling out the lineup. And let’s face it, in underwater, Minelab has pretty much owned it as of late, with almost nobody running an XP at the beach. I think they wanted that to change. To sum up: Deus 1 = coin and relic, also good for gold prospecting, and non-salt jewelry ORX = gold prospecting, also good for coin and relic, and non-salt jewelry Deus 2 = saltwater jewelry, also good for coin and relic, gold prospecting Anyway, just my morning coffee thought for the day, that’s all. Don’t take it for more than that.
  14. I ran my buddies D2 while he used his Nox 800 yesterday at the beach. It's really not close. The 800 is a better beach detector by far. My D2 is coming in Tuesday. I paid 1300 dollars. I'm not even going to remove it from the box. I'm going to sell it. Very disappointed after having such high hopes. Xp will need to do something with how the vdi screen is constantly changing when swinging over a target. It's a major annoyance.
  15. Hey wassup guys! Hope y'all doing great! Just recorded this video as a response to this thread: He said that his gold broken ring gave him a 34 ID right? Well, that equals to a 1 - 2 ID on the Nox (might reach 3)... now imagine the 27 ID from the Earing... when he closed the earing, he had a 49 ID (that's just right, no issues) i got gold coins on the 40's to the 50's range... My broken ring doesn't have any features (his ring has a much larger part) so i guess that when he found the ring with the nox, the large part was positioned horizontally... Sad that he didn't call his mate to compare the signal with his Nox... Hopefully he will record a video using both units. 😁
  16. I wish they would have left manual ground balance as an option in all programs. It's only available in mono. I'm already finding myself needing the fine adjustments of manual ground balance the Deus 1 offered. I guess they figured it wasn't needed with the multi programs. Being able to adjust GB manually allows you to squeeze a little more depth out a machine in bad dirt. It can also be used to tune out small pockets of mineralization that may have not been present at the site you GB'd on. One reason ground notch would have also been nice. Probably not a big issue for most and I can live without it. But I really wish they would have left manual GB as an option.
  17. Interesting video which was linked on the Dankowski forum. Not perfect (as none ever is), but worth a watch, IMO. It's not typical of ones I've seen. (Pretty sure this isn't posted here yet....)
  18. Hi all, just come back from testing Deus 2. Little test in Goldfield program which I’d like to use for relic hunting, little targets on high mineralized fields. I did a little thin foil target and put in the bottom of a 6” hole. Nice result and next time I’ll dig a 8/10 hole with the same target in the bottom of the hole. Soil is very hot, looking the bar. Disc IAR was 3 and in this way I can discriminate iron. Little pieces of iron are a problem but it’s a program I will 100% use again in very difficult areas like these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxhB7N_Jtps&t=2s
  19. Steve if this needs to be moved to the comparisons section, please do. Thanks This will be the only forum I post anything about the Deus 2 on. I've seen the cat fights on the other forums and I'm just not into it. I know there are a few on here that want to know if the Deus 2 will handle mineralized ground. Keep in mind these are my initial thoughts and they may change as I spend more time with the Deus 2. I will have videos I'll post after I get home to show the Deus 2 in action. I got the Deus 2 yesterday and have spent about 10 hours with it testing stuff, going through the manual, going through the menus and using it in the field. Currently I'm in Arizona on a nugget hunt. I was hoping I would have the Deus 2 for this trip and it made it just in time. Mine came with the 11" coil and I have a 9" on order. The 11" obviously isn't the best coil for nugget hunting so keep that in mind with what I have to say. Before I get into the actual field use results I wanted to say a few things about what others have mentioned with their initial thoughts. Calabash has said a few times that if you have a Deus 1 the Deus 2 is very much the same and I will totally agree with that. The transition will be pretty easy for those who are experienced Deus users. The dive and beach features are obviously new to all of us but if you used the Deus 1 for anything else it will be an easy transition. Loren had mentioned that he doesn't like the screen changing between the target ID and the program name. That doesn't really bug me but I'll tell you what does. When using the goldfield program the lower left screen changes between ground level and the battery level too often. Now for the regular programs that's probably not going to be an issue. But for me the ground level bar is real good for IDing hot rocks (I'll elaborate on that later or show it in a video). On this trip I brought the Deus 1 with 5x10 coil, Deus 2 with 11" coil, Equinox 800 with the 11, 8 and 5x10 coils and the Minelab GPX 5000 with a few mono coils. I used all the VLF's on day one, not really looking for gold but just to run over the ground and compare a few buried gold nuggets and see how they handle the mineralization and hot rocks. My first impression is the Deus 2 is slightly better in mineralized dirt that the Equinox coil size to coil size on coin sized targets (I will have a video to show this later). just for reference a dime buried at approximately 6" is pretty much consumed by the ground minerals. The Deus 2 11" coil easily beats out the Deus 1 5x10 30 KHz coil on small gold nuggets, I haven't tried 75 Khz yet but I would assume it will light up the ground. I would assume that would also be the case with 11" coils on both units as the 11" coil should be more blind to the small gold nuggets. The one I tested was less than a 10th of a gram. On bigger gold nuggets the Deus 2 also beats out the Deus 1 but that could change if the Deus 1 had an 11" coil on it. But I doubt it. The nugget used was about .3 grams. Now on to the Equinox. I ran it with both the 11" and 5x10 against the Deus 2 11" coil. It's tough but my initial thought is the Equinox is better at all sizes of gold. But the Deus 2 is much tamer and easier to use. Let me tell you why. When you run the Equinox horseshoe on (which I recommend when hunting small gold) you have to constantly watch the target ID or you could block out -9 thru -7 to get rid of the ground noise you can't GB out. This could just be me but I have a much harder time telling hot rock and ground nose on the Equinox that I ever did on the Deus, even the Deus 1. In this particular area I'm constantly fighting noise on the Equinox with just about any setting I use. The Deus 2 on the other hand is much quieter and hot rocks are really easy for me to ID. They sound different and any that are questionable you simply have to look and the ground level bar and if it's high you know it's a hot rock. More to come on this but either one you use you have trade offs as far as I can tell. So at this point don't get rid of your Equinox, it runs smaller coils and might have the edge nugget hunting hard to say without me having a 9" coil for the Deus 2.
  20. Carter Penningtons, owner of Detector Pro did a depth test with nickels and wood yardsticks. Different beach, different results.
  21. I casually found this video, looking for other frequency related things, but I found even more interesting this one, cause of the latest discussion on salt falsing and tiny, thin, micro or call it like You want but gold. I'm a scuba diver, so I have specific needs, but all of You beach hunters in saltwater can add obviously your point of view. So, fact N.1, the Orx and the Deus 1 are involved in this test and seems pretty clear that not having available multiple different tones, the Emi is terribly in a mix of signals and among those, the ring can be easily missed and misunderstood without fault. I think on the Deus2 in the saltwater can be almost the same thing...Especially running frequencies over 20 Khz. Fact N.2, with a different tone set, the saltwater falsing can be in someway identified with a specific tone if not so variable on the TID range....I don't want to affirm this, maybe to ask is the right way.... I don't know if I'm seeing an open window for the gold fever or just a dream...So feel free to write any thought You may have..
  22. This guy just does wonderful videos. I cant help but learn whenever I watch. Clear and concise delivery every time... and he seems a likable guy as well. I was wishing he was one of my teachers when I was a kid... I woulda got more A's for sure lol So if I were giving out Oscars Gary would get Best XP Teacher of the year... strick
