  1. Yesterday i wanted to see how the HF coil staked up against the x35 coil in my test garden , I wanted to see how it did on high conductors . 8" dime 7" dime, 6" dime, 7" pull tab, and a 7" cut nail pointed at a 45 degree angle to make it false good . I used the ,Deep program, 7 disc, 2 reaction speed, silencer 1, 93 gain, bumped up the audio volume to 6, and to my amazment it hit all targets good and this at 50KHz I also have to 3" cut nails laying flat at 5" the one has a nickle 1" under it , and the other just the nail . so at the factory pre set of 5.5disc i was getting a high tone on the cut nail and i adjusted up the disc untill it went to a low sound , that was 7 disc but when i went over the cut nail with the nickle under it i got a clear high tone unmasking the nickle , so i wanted to take it out to the 30,s tar paper shack and see what it could do with an earea i had cleared of brush and went over many times. it was not long i started hitting 22 short shell casings and slugs, and to my great amazment a 1930,s shot shell , could hardly think i had missed it , but it was the 50KHZ was just picking things out in the iron , very pleased with it , i did dig several iron targets one was a fence post nailand a round tarepaper washer, and two pices of flat iron and at least two nails , but the performance was very noticeable at how good it is at hunting in the iron and still getting reasonable depth
  2. What happens when you turn off ID normalization on the Deus?? Does bottle caps ring up lower and other targets spread out on the spectrum better?? Or does everything just run up to 95??
  3. A few weeks ago I got WS4 headphones to get a Deus lite setup out of my Orx. I liked using it so much I decided to get a Deus controller so I can make use of target ID and other functions like horseshoe and X-Y, etc. the only way I can get the remote and WS4 to work together is by first turning on the WS4 and after its initialized with correct coil, then I turn on the remote. I don’t think this is the right way, but it doesn’t work if I turn on the remote first. Could someone explain to this idiot the right procedure for starting up Deus to work with WS4 headphones?
  4. Had a little fun comparing Deus Fast vs the Sonar program on an iron infested site. Didn't find anything good while filming the comparisons but I mixed in some good finds made by the Deus.
  5. Is it not possible to adjust the reactivity with the ws4's?In the manual it says hold the minus button for 2 sec and the disc will flash, then you can adjust reactivity. If I hold the minus down it just goes into hyper mode lowering the disc. Is there something I'm doing wrong or...don't know or understand. Thanks!
  6. using the hot program with some changes actally pulled out a copper thing right next to a cut nail on the hill of many nails i was getting a 70 72 number and went to dig it and up comes the nail , And i was just bummed out it seemed like such a good signal i re scaned the hole and got a solid 91 and up comes this copper thing , so then i was happy it was a good target just right next to a cut nail i was using the hot program with modes shown in pictures Using the x 35 coil 11.6khz
  7. I see that the coil itself has a battery, in it ? question how hard is it to replace one , or is it even possible ?
  8. Hello everyone; I read the subject and I'm confused 🙂 https://www.detectorprospector.com/magazine/steves-guides/steve-guide-gold-nugget-detectors/ Since my financial situation worsened, I sold my gpx 5000 brand device and instead bought the xp deus x35 28 rc, vs5 device. The land I work on is high mineral, arhaic places. Findings I am looking for 0.50g - 2.5g electrum coin. Is this detector enough for me? What settings would you recommend to me? Thanks to everyone who contributed to the forum.
  9. This is a very good video from XP Team USA about tips for avoiding aluminum trash. Can't wait to try some of these on my XP ORX Jeff
  10. Just bought the XP Deus and trying to learn the machine. I've watched all the videos I can find about the XP Deus and ground balancing. They are almost all in the UK, and the dirt here in the US is a little different. I've proven to myself in the test garden that the default GB of 90 will not hit my 9"-10" dime. The tracking and pumping method both come in at 78 and the ground reading is 77. At those numbers the Deus will hit my 9"-10" silver dime, but the coil becomes ridiculously sensitive and falses on the slightest bumps. It is impossible to hunt soybean stubble or tall grass. I can manually set it as high as 86-87 and the dime signal almost disappears, but it stops the falsing. Is there something I've missed regarding GB, or is this just a Deus thing? Any suggestions?
  11. Photo taken last year of cleaned and preserved military buttons from 12th Regiment in NZ Land Wars 1860s using Treborius preservation wax. This was when I was getting started with the Tarsacci. As I was far more familiar with the XP Deus, it found the majority of these, but then when I thought I had cleaned out my gridded patch, I swapped to the Tarsacci and found about another 6 at greater depths in highly mineralised soil. It is a crying shame finding these in such condition.....deteriorated from age, fertilisers, lime, animal urine and soil minerals.
  12. Does the Deus have a true all metal mode? The traditional settings like SAT to control threshold don't appear to be there so how does it regulate itself? Or because it's all digital and no analogue circuitry does it do something different?

  14. I just got a New Deus controller to use with my ORX shaft and HF coil. Will the old Legacy coils, etc. work with the new Deus V5.x if I was to buy a used one? Thanks!
  15. I’ve been hopefully searching a club claim in Southern Nevada and although I know gold must be there the 3 trips out have been blanks, I’m finding all kinds of trash, old lead and tacks that say although no doubt pounded, not cleaned out by a long shot. Most of this junk found has been shallow but still there has to be some deeper gold hiding amongst all the trash someplace just haven’t found any out there yet. The other day I was burned out swinging the 7000 and grabbed the deus with the high frequency round coil to try something different, I hardly ever hunt nuggets for more than a few minutes with the little Frenchy trusting the power of the zed for gold. The light little deus was a pleasure, detector in one hand pick in the other and the pinpointing accuracy of the deus and target recovery improved 10 fold and I was finding almost exactly the same targets just a bit fewer (probably the gold ones). I ran the gold program against the hot program both at factory settings 50khz and switching between the two programs gave me really good idea of what I was going to find, the gold field being more sensitive and the xy screen of the hot program with full tones providing a more full picture. I was also pleased the deus seemed to handle the ground also with no problems, there were only 3 Little Rock’s in the upper right of the picture that hit hard on the deus and after taking them home for closer inspection they show tiny particles of silvery metal under high magnification that was almost impossible to photograph, its blacker in spots and silvery like mercury droplets (very tiny) in other areas with a metamorphic (I think) host rock that I’m not certain of, any ideas what this is? anyway, I’ve got to spend a week back in Calif working on an offer on my other place, and cleaning it up when I get back then try a few new spots in Arizona after a break before hitting my southern Nevada spot again. my modified Ukrainian army trench tool also worked great paired with the deus I added a longer handle, cut the blade square and embedded a super magnet into the end of the handle was a real back saver, lol.
  16. I was invited back to one of my favorite relic sites in Pennsylvania for a couple of visits, recently. Not only is the site productive but you also never know what just might turn up there. There have been plates and buttons galore, minie and round balls of various types and calibers, other brass uniform and equipment accouterments, jewelry, and other relics . Not to mention silver and gold coins from the 1700's to the 20th century, including a couple of large coin caches. This site appears to have been a CW picket post and/or bivouac area. It also appears to be a center of commerce based on the number of early 19th century coinage encountered. I have had success with both the Equinox and my Deus. This site, unsurprisingly, is becoming more and more stingy and I have found that I am just more confident with the Deus here, lately, for some reason. Can't explain it from a detector performance standpoint, because the Equinox has killed it here before. The Deus in gold field or with pitch tones in discrimination mode just seems to give me a better "view" of the ground and with lots of junk iron, hot rocks, modern trash, and aluminum slag from a previous tractor engine explosion I need the instant feedback the signal modulate gives in terms of signal strength and target footprint. The Equinox lacks this "feel" with its relatively un-modulated tones and requires the extra step of shifting into pinpoint mode to trace a target footprint to sift through large iron targets and large chunks of slag or aluminum cans. The Equinox can obviously get it done here, but I am going with the hot hand, and that is XP for now.. On my second trip there this fall, I focused on using my ORX exclusively, which I got as a backup to the Deus and really wanted to see if it could hold its own with the Deus despite some of it's feature limitations vs. the Deus. The ORX has four built in programs vs. the 11 that are built into the Deus, though many of the Deus programs are just variations on the same theme with different settings pre-programmed in. The Deus and ORX basically have just two modes. Discrimination mode and Gold Field(Deus)/Gold (ORX) mode. The gold mode on Deus/ORX are essentially identical in terms of settings. Gold mode emulates an all metal setup with VCO pitch based audio that changes in intensity and pitch depending on the strength of the target signal - a visual target ID is used for dig decisions. Gold Field/Gold mode allows you to set a threshold tone and allows you vary recovery speed (reactivity) and you can cut in some limited iron audio reject which tends to break up the audio signal in the presence of iron. I usually just keep it off because in mineralized soil, everything gets broken up so it is pretty useless. You can use target ID to determine probable iron and the ORX has a useful "iron probablity" bargraph and pop up, large font target ID display which is absent on the Deus. A couple of ORX user interface enhancements I would like to see in a future Deus implementation. The discrimination or "coin modes" as they are called on the ORX are more traditional iron discrimiantion based tone and visual ID modes. On ORX the tones are fixed at 3 tones (one of those being iron audio which can be switched on even when using discrimiantion, similar to the Deus). The Deus meanwhile, has a myriad of tone customization options (1, 2, 3, 5, and full tones) with fully customizable breakpoints and tone pitch selections. The Deus also provides more adjustability on recovery speed and related filters such as the silencer which is sort of like iron bias on the Equinox. Other than those differences, the ORX raw performance is basically identical to the Deus. I decided to put that to the test and the results were not really surprising. It delivered. What did surprise me was how much I liked using it vs. the Deus. Yes it has limitations on settings but for 90% of the situations I would encounter, it would hold its own just fine. Below are some of the finds recovered recently at the site. Deus finds are mostly to the left, ORX finds are mostly to the right including the Mexican 1850 1/2 Reale. How it found it's way all the way to PA only to be lost for perhaps 150+ years, is a great mystery to be pondered. In addition to the coin, ,various Eagle buttons and button backs, a few flat buttons, a fancy gold plated button with dimpled design, a sword hanger clip, a very old religious cross pendant, period lead bullets, and some miscellaneous pieces of brass and lead were recovered. I can see myself keeping the ORX in the truck as my general purpose grab and go machine for moment's notice detecting. Enjoy.
  17. Ok.. I've encountered some really tough ground conditions in a lot of areas that I hunt regularly. We are talking the red dirt with little shiny particles all in it that also has iron mixed in. My Teknetics T2 struggles in it. My ORX struggles but will fish things out if you can stand the machine gun blips. I keep reading that the Equinox is more suited to deal with this. Now, I tried an Equinox 600 and found it to also cut up on certain plots of land, and the particular one I had was really horrible in iron. The tones also played tricks on my ears and I found the bleepity bling like sounds to confuse my caveman brain. The ORX has been a decent detector for me, and helped me rehabilitate myself after a car accident this year. However the tones in it are so close together that my ears can not often discriminate high from mid tone. There is no way to adjust it. Let's fast forward to today. The Equinox 600 does not have the adjustability of the 800 concerning tones, or at least that is my understanding. I walked away from my Equinox 600 ticked off that I could not seemingly bond with it. In my mind there was a single thought - how much better would the 800 be? For those of you that have especially used the XP ORX or the Teknetics T2 and also used an Equinox 800 I'm asking you, does the Equinox 800 do better in contaminated soil than my current 2? It is possible I will trade the XP ORX towards the EQ800. Would that be a "step-up" in capabilities? I've always found this forum and the people here honest and fair with no BS. So I ask you, would it be worth the extra money, hassle and such to truly give the Equinox 800 a chance even though I had a 600 and it didn't quite suit me. It is entirely possible the 600 I had may have had a fault of some type for all I know. And what of depth with the EQ800 vs the XP ORX? Reaching out to everyone in the know.
  18. "XP are always working on ways to improve our products, we are pleased to announce the new revised coil charging clip offering an advanced durable Polymer and upgraded charging pins." New XP polymer charging clip
  19. When hooking up to charge LED is not lighting up except with feeble glow. Charger cables and contact were checked. If not lighting up bright do I assume a faulty coil battery?, how do I know? thanks
  20. Some random notes, and if you don't know what I am talking about as regards some detail of this machine or that I apologize. Well, I finally updated my XP Deus with 11" coil to the version 4 update. Then I hauled it and the Nokta Impact with 11" and Teknetics G2 with 11" out for several hours of cross checking coin type targets. The G2 is a Gold Bug Pro variant running at 19 kHz and I put it up against the Deus at 18 kHz and Impact at 20 kHz. I acquired the G2 new recently to use specifically as a benchmark unit because I am very familiar with it and because in my opinion it does 19 kHz as well as it can be done. I spent hours swapping machines as the hunt machine, then cross checking the undug targets with the other two. Lots of settings tried, with the main goal to try and find some deep fringe type target or target in trash where any machine can get a clear and definable edge. Well good luck with that. All I mainly did was impress myself again with what a little powerhouse the Gold Bug Pro/G2 is for the price. It is fairly mineralized ground but not the worst, 5 bars out of 7 on the G2 Fe3O4 meter, ground balance about 86. The only real "aha" moment was in learning the Impact really likes to upscale shallow small foil when in 5 kHz mode, but shoves the id back down to where it should be at 14 kHz or 20 kHz. All the machines like to upscale deeper aluminum in this ground. All three seemed to get tricked in much the same way on certain targets, like a deep pull tab reading like a dime. For gold hunting purposes I do not mind machines upscaling low conductive targets, and in fact the Impact 5khz mode may have a benefit in nugget detecting because it does want to push light foil (and therefore small gold) higher. But for coin detecting upscaling aluminum is annoying. Pretty much par for the course however for mid to higher single frequency machines. I found running the Impact in VLX1 was nice as I could flip over just one click to the Gen(D) mixed mode program for a dramatically different read and better target definition. Target id numbers in my ground are slightly higher in the "expanded ferrous" modes like VLX1 and VLX2 compared to DI3 and DI4. The Deus V4 Gold Field program does seem to pack some extra punch now, be fun to get it out nugget hunting once the elliptical coil hits the streets. The new Deep mode really seems great while the new Hot mode is, shall I say it, interesting. First time I have used the X-Y screens also. The G2 is what it is, almost no controls but it gets the job done with what it has, and good solid id. Deus and Impact in the other hand have countless options and programs to try, but by and large there is no magic bullet. Three great machines, I can hunt with any of them. It will take a lot more hours to sort it all out. I find when running machines that are all hitting the VLF Wall that it is the "other things" that get my notice. The Impact is obviously the heavier of the three (4 lbs 4.7 oz / 1946 grams), although very well balanced, so I give the feel on my arm award to the G2 (3 lbs 1.5 oz / 1404 grams) and the Deus (2 lbs 4.0 oz / 1020 grams with 11" coil and control box). The G2 and Deus are neck and neck in the comfort department FOR ME* but the G2 feels ever so slightly better to me, I am guessing because the coil is lighter on the G2. The G2 slays both the Impact and Deus for speaker volume if run without headphones, but on the other hand it has no volume control so would be too loud for some situations. Been awhile since I ran a Gold Bug Pro / G2 unit and caught myself when switching from disc mode to all metal when cross checking at one point and forgetting that the "big number" changes from target id in disc mode to ground phase in all metal mode, so I was looking at the ground phase instead of the little speedometer thinking it was target id for a couple goes. That one quirk always had me liking the F75 versus the Bug in all metal. I wish Fisher made a 19 kHz F75! *On arm comfort is a very subjective subject. In particular it has a great deal to do with the size of a persons hands plus length and thickness of their forearm, and their height. You really can't take any one persons word on this subject as it is like buying hiking boots. What fits one person does not fit another. It is not all about detector weight by a long shot. Balance is very important as is the all important hand grip. I am 5' 11" with forearms on the thinner side and smallish hands. For instance, my forearm really bounces around in the large Impact armrest area. The Deus armrest which may be too small for some fits me better. For me personally, the 3.5 lb Teknetics T2 / Fisher F75 is the most comfortable detector I have ever used. It is superbly balanced and something about the hand grip that narrows to the top as it cants forward really makes my hand happy. I can squeeze the armrest shut to fit my arm. So if you find the F75 to be a great fit for you, my comments apply to you. If you hate the T2/F75 setup then what I have to say is less important.
  21. Did some CW relic hunting in Virginia this week using a variety of detectors including a GPX, Equinox 800, and a Deus and came away with some great relic finds. In a single hole I found a lead disc which is a possible backing to breast plate, part of a sword belt hanger, a dropped Sharps minie ball, and a purposely flattened Eagle I Coat button (possible poker chip) along with some glass and plate shards including a piece that had the word "Baltimore" on it. the Equinox got me into that hole, probably due to the lead disc, despite terribly hot soil. At another site, I hit my bucket lister, my first US Cavalry bit boss along about a foot down using a GPX 4800 with some other dropped and fired bullets and balls, some cannon friction primers, and other pieces of brass including a flat button found elsewhere in the fields. All in all, it was a great week with that bit boss being the highlight. Thanks for stopping by.
  22. Published on Oct 2, 2019 by EnglandsHistory. Extreme depth test on multiple buried targets, hammered coins, and a mini hoard of 1.1kg who wins the test???? you decide....metal detecting uk.
  23. After going through the user manual and Gary's video here is my take as an experienced Deus user/instructor but WITHOUT laying my hands on one: Basically you have 2 slots occupied by the Deus Gold Field Program (called Gold/Fine Gold) and 2 slots occupied by the Deus Fast program (called Coin Fast/Coin Deep) and 2 open slots. Sensitivity and Disc are fully adjustable 0-99 (IAR is used for the Gold Programs instead of disc). Tones are either Pitch (Gold) or 3-Tones (Coin) with the low tone corresponding to iron, based on the disc setting, and which can be turned either off or on - that's it, no adjusting iron volume level. No full tones, no pitch tone in Coin mode, no 4 or 5 multitones, no audio response, no notches, no silencer, and the mid and high tone breaks are not adjustable. A threshold tone can be set in the Gold modes. Reactivity can be adjusted from 1, 2, 2.5, 3 - which are the only reactivity settings I have used on Deus anyway. For ground settings it is manually or automatically set with ground grab if there is enough mineraluzation, but no tracking mode. You can select a salt range for wet salt or alkaline soil conditions. Fully adjustable coil frequency settings within the capability of the coil you attach to it. No TX power adjustment, No Target ID normalization across frequencies, no apparent target volume modulation with depth, and no depth meter. So that's it. The difference between the two preprogrammed gold programs is the default sensitivity setting, the default frequency setting (31 khz/51 or 74 khz depending on the HF coil you use or 17/25 khz for the x35 coil) and the reactivity setting. The difference between the two preprogrammed coin modes is the default reactivity setting (2.5 for fast, 2 for deep). If you are using the HF coils, both coin modes are set at 14 khz. If you are using the X35 coils, Fast Coin is set at 17 khz and Deep Coin is set at 8 khz. Otherwise, it is apparently geared toward the gold seeker with a pair of very simplistic, yet effective coin/relic mode programs thrown in for good measure. Likes: Complete compatibility with all the new Deus coils and the MI6 pinpointer and App (if it ever gets released) which means all Deus frequencies are available to the ORX user. Simplified Menu navigation and user interface (perhaps too simplified in SOME areas). You get almost the same Gold Field experience as you get with the Deus except no audio response setting and Rx capped at 3 Like the large TID and IRON probability displays when you get a target hit Overall, I like it better than the Deus lite package Made the amazing Deus light-weight, low-profile package even lighter. Perfect for grab n go and on the go, carry-on travel. Dislikes Still priced TOO HIGH for what it is IMO, needs to come down a few hunge and the headphones should just be included at the lower price point. XP perhaps missed a business opportunity here to partially eat into a crowded mid-range detector market. Alternatively, they could offer it at the advertised price point but with any two coils. They could possibly get a lot of existing LF legacy coil Deus users to buy in on that simply so they could get their hands on two of the "new" coils with the ORX stuff as a bonus. The Coin mode is perhaps too simplified with no way to vary Transmit Power Tones - 3 tones are it (with the ability to turn the lower iron tone off or on), No Full Tones, No other multitone options, Cannot adjust the Mid and High tone breaks and no Pitch in coin mode. No Audio Response Setting - Gary noticeably struggled with lack of target audio modulation and had to guess as to target depth. It must be locked at 5 or 6 which means no change in audio intensity with depth. No overload indicator or depth meter No independent silencer setting adjustment - (I wonder if it tracks with reactivity setting or if it is turned off?) No negative Disc No Notches No ID Normalization Tracking GB would have been nice, but can live with the ground balance scheme provided Would like a few more custom memory slots to enable custom frequency interrogation of targets though it appears you can only step through the modes sequentially by pressing the # button vice the +/- buttons like on the Deus so negative points for a user interface step backwards but with only 6 slots, no biggie. In the end, I think they went slightly too far on the tone simplifications in the Coin modes and there needed to be something (like audio modulation at least) that would give the user SOME idea of depth. If it had pitch AND full tones in the coin modes (and perhaps priced a little lower) I would probably pick one up for rucksack use when swinging my PI detector in Culpeper or as a grab and go travel machine that I would not freak out too much about if someone decided to lift it (the cool thing about Deus and travel is that you can break it down and separate the parts (coil, control box, headphones, and coil) so if someone lifts a bag, you can still retain some of your investment). CG P.S. - The ORX is compatible with all XP DEUS coil types except the first generation/legacy LF coils.
  24. The ORX remote control is available to purchase by itself. Would it be compatible with my Deus WS4 and WS5 Headphones HF Coils and shaft? Thanks!
