If anyone hasn't done the 2.0 update by now, I'm sad to say you're really missing out on serious improvement to the D2 overall. 🥲 I understand the fear of coming back from upgrade with a dead unit, but from what I've seen and experienced you can do it over and over until it gets right. Heck I have an old laptop with windows 11 on it (upgraded because I could) and it works ok. Don't forget the headphones! 🙂
maxxkatt
I am going to take a long serious look at v 2.0 upgrade for the XP Deus 2. Why? Two reasons. 1) like you said may be some good stuff in the update and 2) If I upgrade to v2.0 then my update learning curve will be easier, because it will be just like getting a newer machine and I won't have to learn a little here and there. Of course I know v.71 pretty good since that is what was shipped with the detector. I did learn a lot about advanced features and what they really mean in terms of making them work for your type of hunting sites when learning to use the Equinox 800. It was a struggle coming from the AT Pro. But I learn a whole lot more about the science behind metal detecting. I remember on the 800 learning about switching to 4.5 khz to find high conductors in trashy parks and help avoid foil targets. It really worked. Now I study new features carefully and via help from some trusted forum members, I come to really understand those features and what the mean to me hunting trashy parks for coins and CW relics which are also in trashy parks where I hunt here in North Atlanta.

Good thoughts here, I don't mean to force you out of your comfort, but I'm sure that you will find V2 to be much better. Look especially at Relic, that program in my opinion improved immensely. I switch between relic and beach hunting throughout the year, and this year with V2 was a banner year for me. I also do coin shooting sometimes, and really find Relic to do just fine. Now and again I end up using Tekkna, look into that one too. The other most common program for me is Beach Sensitive. In all of my programs if I vary anything it will be reactivity, depending on the amount of targets. I do change other values initially but that is up to you and your conditions. 🍀

We've both noticed several improvements beyond just the addition of the Xtreme Hunter. You can upload with confidence....you'll be happy you did. 👍

I am a firm believer in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosphy. What I have personally found with XP, however, is that users have been just living with suboptimal things for years, including some quirks which have existed since Deus 1, (such as no iron volume with >0 disc settings in full tones) that they have just gotten used to them. I don't equate this with being happy with those shortcomings. Sometimes, you don't realize it until a better implementation has come along, and that has been my experience with the updates issued since ver 0.71. Also, the ability to roll back to a previous version means there is little risk in giving the new versions a shot. The only drawback being that you have to re-enter your custom programs again, which is tedious (and something I hope they can also address in a future update). A consolidated, exhaustive list of the documented and anecdotal improvements incorporated in each of the iterative updates, is provided in this thread. In a nutshell, though, here are some highlights (I'm sure I missed some stuff on people's personal lists so please chime in with additions): Lots of bug fixes and new shortcut button functionality for quick access to big TID visuals, noise cancel, and Audio adjustments. Also some default settings for some of the stock programs have been tweaked. You can now adjust the Max FMF frequency on ANY stock program from it's factory default to 14, 24, or 40 khz greatly enhancing stock program customization and versatility. FT audio has been improved to enable iron volume to be heard with TIDs >0 up to the disc breakpoint instead of just silence. An offset feature was also added to enable the user to provide better pitch separation between ferrous audio and the lowest non-ferrous audio tone. High Square Audio has been added to provide a good middle of the road balance between the nuanced but sometimes harsh audio of PCM and the less expressive but "pleasing" tonality of Square. An adjustable Audio Filter has been provided that can help in differentiating overload or distortion tones coming from large or jagged aluminum targets. A new silencer filter implementation has been added to the Sensitive FT factory program only that includes a higher strength filter across all silencer settings, while the other programs use the ver 0.71 silencer implementation at levels 0, 1, and 2. All programs use the same higher strength Silencer filter implementation at level 3 and higher. In version 2.0 micro mid-conductive (e g., gold) target sensitivity has been increased. Users have anecdotally noticed similar sensitivity gains appear to present in other modes, including Relic. Some are also perceiving better non-ferrous target responsiveness in thick iron and more reliable/stable non-ferrous and ferrous ID with less falsing. YMMV, of course. WS6 Standalone (Master) mode wrt ground menu access and multi-notch is now almost as functional/versatile as detecting using the standard remote except for some select visual features such as the X-Y plot and the number of available custom program slots. 1
Rattlehead
I have two Deus 2's. One running .71 and the other running 2.0. I've been using the one with version 2.0 exclusively for several months now and will likely stick with it permanently just so that my detector is fully up to date with all the latest bug fixes. However, for the type of hunting I do, I still prefer the more normalized TID of version .71. Also preferred the slightly tighter ID grouping of high conductors in .71. Probably because that's just what I'm used to after putting in a ton of hours on .71. Version 2.0 is fine, and I'm very comfortable using it now, but for my style of hunting I don't see any real benefits. I keep the audio filter set at 0, as setting it higher does make difficult targets sound better, but in my opinion it also makes iron sound better. I don't use full tones often, and I don't care for high square audio. Frequency cap can be useful occasionally I guess, if I want to use a program with certain default filters in place with different frequency weighting. Otherwise I just choose a base program that already uses the frequency sets I want.

I mentioned this in another post, but here seems a suitable place to repeat it: Version 2 has some completely new/revised modes, running three frequencies at once, rather than the two in previous firmware versions. The transmitted waveform is a three-level one, in the way the DeepHC transmission is done, but obviously more complex. ( it's being discussed on the Geotech1 forum currently ) So it's not unexpected for V2 to behave in a noticeably different way. 4
