Bob LI
Been using my Sov for 25 years, beep and dig. dead quiet in surf and great depth. My manti just does not compare with my ole sov. How are you salt beach hunters getting the most out of this manti. have tried multiple settings, very noisy and hard to see what the machine is saying, just very frustrated at this polnt. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Bob
fishersari
Hello Bob, welcome to the forum.. 2 hours ago, Bob LI said: very noisy what kind of noise? EMI? Ground noise? .. The manicure is a very powerful detector aka sparky detector aka prone to falsing detector. For me I'll isolate the problem first before doing anything else. In your case I will try to find what cause the noise and tame it first before moving to decipher what the machine tell me. For EMI noises - Long press noise cancel until its settle on a channel. Let the machine choose which channel to use. Make sure to keep the coil away from the ground (for me I scare the ground noise/targets could maybe imitates EMI somehow lol and confuse the machine in choosing the cleanest channel on that day on that time). Lower sensitivity if still noisy. After EMI noise eliminated only then I move to tackle ground noise..

KDX
At the 24:12 mark of this video this guy describes how to ground balance the detector. Sounds similar to some other descriptions I've heard.
Bob LI
Not EMI noise or ground balance. Works fine in the dry sand. noisy in the moving water, falses constantly. If I drop sensitivity to 17 it does quiet down but I do not get deep targets. Using beach deep mostly all metal recovery speed at 5. Would like to try a good working setup for salt beach hunting if someone can post a good program for me to try.
schoolofhardNox
Did you try submerging the unit at least knee deep? If so, is it still noisy? Mine falses when I just enter the water as it comes ashore. It may be the moving water hitting the coil wire and moving it . I don't hunt in the water much, so I have not investigated that further. My Manticore is not my primary machine, so my knowledge is limited on it. But I do know that mine does not like entering the water where the waves break on to the shore. I was using the Surf and seawater setting.
Yatahaze323
Hi Bob, try the Surf & Seawater Mode when you're on wet sand or in the water it handles the salt better then the other beach modes. Also make sure you ground balance on the wet sand and long press noise cancel. If these issues always happen at every beach you go to maybe check out the coil itself and see if there's any damage or gaps in the resin fill under the coil cover.

If you are using a coil cover, it has to be clean underneath. I recommend NOT using a cover at all.

If you are IN the moving water, go to Surf and Sea Water program as has been said. Ground balance in at least knee deep water. (I don't use tracking...personal choice) If you are hunting in waves in 18" or less water, you will get some falsing as the water depth changes above the coil. Normal but you can tell a false from a target if it doesn't repeat. 17 or 18 sens in seawater mode is about normal for me or it gets chatty. Try 4 recovery, all metal, upper 4, lower 0. Iron volume about half of regular volume. I use prospecting audio instead of high to low tone modes. I just like the detail of Prospecting Audio when it bangs on good targets vs. trash. You can use the TID to determine if it's a high or low conductor. With these settings, I have had quarter TID's (88-90) too deep to recover (15" +) due to the sand falling back in the hole underwater. So....it's hitting deeper than you can reasonably dig underwater unless you have a clay/sand mixture. By the way, I don't have black conductive sand down here.

Even where you have salt water comiing up over the coil you would have to do quite a bit of fiddling to run anything but the actual Surf setting. Worst case put in a small reject block 1/2/'3 increments to make the signal jump over. This and a faster REC SPD (usually run 6) will smooth you out. This is a machine with a lot of power but it has the processing to moderate any conditons if you do some trial and error. Good Luck, clive
