This is a brand new Garrett Axiom. It was a gift but I will never get a chance to use it.  I opened the box but didn't touch anything inside so it would be just like the factory packaging.

Not registered so the warranty hasn’t started

Technically warranty starts at original date of purchase, though it's very unlikely you'd be asked to provide proof of purchase date. The current warranty is 3 years on the Axiom and so no matter what it's got lots of warranty left, like over two years. But no, you can't buy something and register it a year late to get a free year of warranty.

Isn't the warranty on the Axiom 2 years?

All Garrett products have a three year warranty now. It was retroactive to all items under warranty at the time so all Axioms made have a three year warranty from date of purchase.
