At the end of the day, I gave in to the temptation to introduce the M9 into the artillery...
After 49 total days of ownership and about 20 sessions in which I 97% adopted the M8, the Manticore has produced its price and the first gamble after the break even point will be this new coil.
I'm highly skeptical of an improvement regarding thin gold sensitivity against the M8, but I'm attracted to a few more inches of coverage...Regarding detection depth, I'm afraid there's not much to look forward to.
We'll see as soon as the coil arrives next Wednesday what it brings.
In any case, before next Monday, I won't have a chance to dive.

It's supposed to cut through the water very well and will give a little more coverage. Right up your alley. I'm still liking my M15 when water hunting (not diving).

I gave in to the temptation and now have the M9. Been out 3 times with it and it feels similar to using the M8 while swinging in the water. Perhaps I am anxious to swing faster while in the water with it so causing the same resistance. I do have to turn down the sensitivity about 2 points lower than the M8 to help with the falsing. A tradeoff for more coverage but still seems very sensitive. More time needed to fully see its benefit.

Please don't 🫢....If there's one thing I've confirmed about the Manti's performance it is exactly that is better to go slowly, especially cause at 22, You're already on the falsing risk, with any coil You use...

For my hearing and tolerance of noise I have found that 22 with the M9 is working good for me. Still some falsing but it isn't too bad. Make sure the coil cover is completely attached at all points. Had it come off once due to some excess buildup of sand under one section.

  • The title was changed to M9 On The Road To My Cave
