Why is it a big deal one way or the other to anyone?

It's a big deal to Garrett. I assume they want the Vortex machines to sell well and attract customers who might've otherwise bought rival machines.

Otherwise, Garrett's hobby division might face the same fate as Whites and Tesoro.

Yeah. So what? Their game to win or lose, not your problem or mine.

Apparently the game has not changed with the Vortex, straight from a tester @GoneDiggin, this machine is “definitely not aimed [to] replace your D2 or Manticore.” We could’ve guessed that based on the features and some common sense, but it’s still a letdown to hear it from someone who would be more likely to talk it up than down. I was really hoping for a flagship. I know most of us were. So it will be a while yet before Garrett is into flagship territory. Still, there’s a part of me that wants to support their efforts and find a place for it in my arsenal.

As far as I know, there are no post production Vortex units in any tester's hands, only pre production prototypes including the one that was used in GoneDiggin's Vortex video.

Also, why would anyone expect a $599 detector to totally compete or even smoke a currently produced $1500 SMF detector. We already went through this with the Legend which has turned out to be an outstanding value for the price one pays, but the Legend is not quite at the level of the Manticore or Deus 2. I own all three and I don't have a problem saying that.

From a post on the Vortex forum, “Garrett: We are fine-tuning and doing more testing currently on the software. Making sure everything is good for you all before we start shipping in July.”

Regarding “iron bias” “Garrett: It will be adjustable.” But that may come in a free update.

For some reason I keep coming back to Steve's quotes.  I concur, "so what?"  These lengthy threads are really nothing but smoke.

Garrett sold tons of Aces and AT's.  They have upgraded those lines with the Apex and now the Vortex.  I'll bet they will sell a ton of these Vortexes but again, to quote Steve, "it's there game to win or lose."

I think Garrett knows what it is doing.  You know, General Motors made their money on selling Chevys, not Cadillacs.

I'm willing to bet the Vortex sells more units in the next few months than the AT Series have in a year ot more, mid range detectors would be the Bread and butter sales by volume while giving higher margin than entry level.  It seems to me Garrett did a good job of it and can now focus on a high end machine or further pursue the PI market where they have potential to one day be at or very near the top

When Garrett came out with the AT MAX  I seen it as a good thing for people to get into a AT Pro.  New machines lower the price of the previous machines.  ACE got people into the hobby at a lower price then if the hobby "Stuck" they moved up in the price range.  Some recent past Garretts machines still are high end machines,  VX has yet to prove itself.  I'm old, I stick with what's worked for me.

And yet, we all still keep commenting.

True that..

And judging by some of what I have been reading if it were not for the steadfast that we all mostly try to adhere to as well as having a moderator tempers could fly and there could be some old-fashioned cat fights.😾
