I went up to that area to a beat up patch of mine on Tuesday. It was hot, the deer and biting flies were out in full force. And I got skunked. But the scenery was just beautiful and that made the day. Rooster wasn't enjoying the bugs either.

I don't know where you went but I bet it was up north somewhere. Visited my Uncle in Upper Michigan many years ago. Gad did they have flies that would bug the crap out of you and bite. Don't know what they were. I am from Georgia and we don't have those kind of flies. Yes around stables we have horse flies that can bite, but other than that we just have to watch for yellow jackets near their nest. They will attack you and sting the crap out of you and it is a very painful sting unlike a bee or wasp sting.

I detected there with the GPX 6000 last October just before the snow set in. The weather was great 70 degrees with no wind and no flies or mosquitoes. Found 4 little bits for a total of 0.9 grams. Just after leaving the area a momma bear and two clubs crossed the road in front of me. They really had beautiful heavy fur ready for the cold winter. I will try to get back this fall for another few bits.

I was up there years ago with a bunch of people. We headed out into the woods to detect in this area we all wanted to try.

I had been there before and knew about the mosquitoes and asked everyone if they wanted any deet spray before they took off into the woods. "Nah" they all said, implying real men didn't need that sissy spray stuff.

Twenty minutes later I heard shouting in the distance as a few of the gents came sprinting out of the woods waving their arms in the air and yelling for that bug spray stuff.

I don't know why, but it's one of my favorite memories of detecting up there. Those things are for real.

Nice finds! I know that place too, went there several times to escape the heat. Will be back there in 2 weeks if you want to meet up.🤠 Scenery is gorgeous but gold is rather spotty. The place where you took the pic with your dog is good and surrounded by several placer diggings. Also, very different geology to the left and to the right of the street when driving down before going on the dirt road to the right..😉

My grandparents shared an old miners log cabin with other relatives next to the turnoff to… I don’t want to say  cause it’ll out the area lucky posted but a road runs to some lakes next to the driveway to the cabins. It’s in a meadow with a trout stream and a field of tall grass the cabin is still there.

we were sitting in a screened in porch when a family came walking through the property carrying a couple fishing rods. They made it about 50 yards into the meadow… no need to post no trespassing signs the skeeters were thick as fog an more than ready for lunch, it was the same thing they high tailed it back to the car, don’t know how they avoided their own hooks swinging as the ran.
